Most of the monitors here are free sync and I would say have good implementations however I will include a Gsync category.

I would not recommend 4k for the 2080. It would be able to run games around 60 fps at 4k however refresh rate will make things more enjoyable. Also, 4k high refresh rate monitors are currently very expensive.

Good value companies to look at:
Viotek
Pixio (Did not list since availability issues but worth looking at)
Nixeus

More established companies to look at:
Acer
Asus
Samsung
LG
Gigabyte (They have one monitor on the market)

TL;DR of VA vs IPS
IPS has slightly better viewing angles than VA.
IPS has slightly better colors VA.
IPS has better response time than VA.
However, VA does not have defects like IPS glow and much better contrast, so much better blacks and such.

TL;DR of TN vs IPS
IPS has much better viewing angles than TN. TN will color shift if looked at straight on.
IPS has much better colors than TN.
TN has the best response rate.
TN is basically worse in every way than VA and IPS except for response time.

Gsync monitors (Would not recommend since you are paying extra for gsync without any apparent benefits anymore since free sync now works with Nvidia GPUs)

Yeah I mean it can be worth it but it's all preference. I actually tried a 27" 1440p and found it was just too big for me but it could be good for you. My LoL performance actually improved going back to 24" (finally made gold yay). Another great option would be a 144Hz 1080p monitor. Your card would really be able to use that to its full potential and 144Hz makes for a great experience.
This is a pretty good one and on sale for a very good discount. Just fyi it will have slightly worse colors than an IPS model though. This is the one I have, got it on sale for $220 and I am very pleased with it.
By the way everything I linked is a 23-24" monitor. If you need recommendations for 1440p monitors I can recommend some as well.
Yes! Let me help you as I was just helping another friend pick a laptop for the same reason.
So these are the best ones I found using that ebay deal:
Then there are some other options on Amazon that are in the same price range. I suggest purchasing the used versions through Amazon Warehouse for a huge discount (that's what I did and it was in perfect condition).
These all have similar specs but vary in terms of hard drives and processors (like i5 vs i7). The first one here is actually the one I bought a year ago and currently using it right now. I haven't had any problems with it yet and it has a fantastic battery and it's really easy to upgrade parts. It comes with a 256GB M.2 SSD and also has an empty 2.5" HD slot so you can just toss in an extra HD.
The second one comes with a drive in the 2.5" slot but you can still add an M.2 drive as well. The difference being the 1st one has an i5 with 4 cores and the 2nd is an i7 with 4 cores+Hyperthreading (so more powerful as a workstation). Same battery, graphics card and screen though.
This last one is another Asus through Amazon. Similar specs as others but it has a really big SSD, although it doesn't come with a second HD bay for additional storage and instead has a CD drive.
Hope this helps!!
Got this mic for christmas, and I love it. I modded a paid of Sennheister HD515's to accept this mic and it worked alright, but I went ahead and bought another pair of cans that I fell in love with.
These headphones sound awesome and are probably the most comfortable and light pair I own. They also look nice, and accept the vmoda's mic without modification!
Alright, well - You could push frames higher than 60 on some less graphically intense games, but nothing like GTA V.
I think you would be just fine with a much cheaper monitor, something in the $150-$200 range, but if you have the money to spend, maybe something like this would be cool:
https://www.amazon.com/LG-29UM68-P-29-Inch-21-UltraWide/dp/B01B9IDLAW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1525796551&sr=8-1&keywords=lg+29+inch
It may start to struggle at full 2560x1080 resolution in the future, but you can always just bring games back to a regular 1920x1080 resolution. It will just have black bars on the sides, but your screen size would be about that of a normal 24 inch monitor at that point. Keep in mind this monitor does go on sale for less than this price fairly regularly I am pretty sure, so you may want to wait and scope it out for a couple weeks before buying if you decide to go for it.
My girlfriend has this monitor and she uses it for graphics design and gaming and loves it. Again, you can save money here and get a regular 24 inch 1080p monitor, but if you have the money to spend why not spend it on a cool ultrawide experience.
There are higher priced 1080p monitors with 144hz that may also be nice, but I don't know how well you will be able to push those frames on a 1060 6gb.
in my opinion, since my build is very similar, you best bets for moniters would be:
IPS: Acer Predator xb271hu
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01N11QIYW/ref=mp_s_a_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1492867021&sr=8-5&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=acer+predator
TN Panel: Dell S2417DG

Both:
Fantastic budget "Hi-Fi", the SHP9500 headphones have been loved for a long time for their comfort and high value for the money.
This is a pretty good price according to CCC, although for those interested in the second revision SHP9500S model, it's only about $12 more on Amazon as well.
EDIT: From what I've read, there's not much of a difference between the two versions.
EDIT 2: The price dropped $1.04 down to $67.84 lmfao, cancel your orders and re-buy for that sweet dollar savings!
So, here's a quick list of boards, from amazon. I went with them for a search on mechanical boards, and filtered by 4 stars +, and read some of the critical reviews and sort through the ones that seemed to be overwhelmingly positive, with no "i did this for a kickback" though they no longer allow that, those reviews still skew it. Next, I went with brands that, well I had heard of. I just so happened to have seen or read reviews on boards from these companies, and while they often get the board for free in these situations, I still have seen them in action, or seen critical reviews of a product from them before. So, would venture to say these are probably some of the more... okay brands, of these "cheap" brands. Now, I included mostly TKL boards, since they happen to be cheaper, and I also included a "wireless" and quite a few backlit ones. I know you said that didn't matter, but they were within budget at met the review requirements, and your other reqs, albeit at typically higher prices. Also, I tried not to include the scam of "mechanical feeling."
So, from here, I'll list them. And you should understand you can buy boards from Newegg, fry's, microcenter, target etc.... and you can try to find your own with these tips. I simply used Amazon because it offers free shipping on most items over $25 even without prime. As well, they tend to be... somewhat responsible for their sellers.

Again, some things to keep in mind; add tax to most, if not all of these. I tried to keep them as far under $40 as I could, but the ones with decent reviews don't seem to go as low. As well, please feel free to do your own research. Or, if you want we can try on your preferred shopping site. Seek other users advice, maybe one of the mechanical keyboard subs will offer better advice. You absolutely do not have to buy any of these, nor do I get anything if you do. Also, please copy and paste the names of the boards for a youtube search, many of these low end boards send them out for review for coverage. Also, you could try doing a search yourself, just to check, "Mechanical keyboards" into amazon or whatever, and sort by reviews, and price, and avoid "MECHANICAL FEEL" at all costs, as it is not truely mechanical. I hope I've helped at least somewhat, and again, you absolutely don't have to settle on a link I provided, consider waiting for a sale, or observing this sub for a bit. Most of those boards likely hover around their price or will go lower.
Good luck, and I hope I've helped even a little. Let me know if I can help more.
Edit: Also, there's no need to rush into a buy at all, assuming you don't need one ASAP. Shop around, watch for deals on one you're interested, or just watch for new things to enter your price range.
Main differences are controller and memory type. Memory types are SLC, MLC, TLC, and QLC, from most expensive to least expensive. This video explains it pretty decently, but it doesn't mention QLC. It's the same principle, just Quad-level, so one more than TLC. Slightly less reliable but a lot cheaper. If you're doing a budget build it's cheaper and plenty decent for most people, so something like the Intel 660p is a great deal.

If you want something with slightly better performance, longevity, and potential reliability for about the same price, the Sabrent Rocket is fantastic in terms of price/performance. Highly recommend it for most builds. Same controller and memory chips as the Corsair MP510, but a lot cheaper.
If you're looking on the budget end, these keyboards will all be on sale tomorrow:
The first 2 are pretty regularly posted on this sub. The 3rd is highly recommended on /r/MechanicalKeyboards as a good budget board (though the more expensive Gateron keys are preferred). I'm not familiar with the 4th, but it looks like it could be the same as a MechanicalEagle with a different badge.
Here is a link that finds all of those keyboards except the Qisan (#3), which is filed under "Electronics" and "Video Games > Accessories" rather than "Computers & Accessories". It should also keep populating in case more keyboards show up, since deals are only posted 24 hours in advance. You should be able to change the price range, but I don't remember seeing any mechanical keyboards for $50+. You can also "Watch" the deals from that link so you are notified when they go live.
Hope this helps, and good luck finding a board!
This thing is AWESOME. I use it with these Philips headphones and fucking love the set up. The headphones are always on sale somewhere for like 50-60 bucks as well.
I'd say both combined are as high quality as a $150-200 range mic by the big name brands. Or at least close enough.
The headphones are very good for music as well btw. Open back though.

I use this one at work and I love it. Its really quiet for being a mechanical keyboard. Brown clone switches. I use a Mechanical-Keyboards Disco (Browns) at home and the Velocifire is definitely quieter. All of the keys work great, and they also make it in wireless and fullsize. Been using it for about a year now and its a dream for the money. I actually replaced my Rosewill MK with this one.
For smaller monitors their 17-27" model is really good, on sale for 21 right now: https://www.amazon.com/North-Bayou-Monitor-Computer-14-3lbs/dp/B01AI2YGK4/
Obviously doesn't compete with high end mounts. Maxes out at 9" over my desk with a 24" monitor, which I wish was a little higher, but it seems like most issues people have with these are with obtuse instructions. Considering it is made in china, and sold by unknown brand, I was pleasantly surprised by it's sturdiness.
Hey man, I don't know much about the SanDisk Extreme II 240GB that's listed there for 139.99, but I know Samsung SSDs are usually highly recommended here and on /r/buildapc. Its on sale right now for the same rate here . If that's your price range, I'd recommend going for that. I got mine last year for $180 and its worth every goddamn cent. Plus the Samsung Magician software that comes with it is pretty sweet.
If you do go 1080p, try to find a 2560x1080p Ultrawide, the 1070 does very well at that resolution, and you should be able to get very good framerates. Here is an 29" IPS LG monitor that is 2560x1080 and in your price range ($250). It looks like it can get up to 75hz as well, so that will be a nice extra over the normal 60hz monitors.
Thanks for the feedback!

Also, let me know if you'd be comfortable to sell it to me. I'm interested.
Well I wasn't born yesterday so it took me all of 2 minutes to find an item at each of these retailers that was either marked up way above MSRP or had a list price of well above MSRP.

I have two of these and they're great. Looks overall very similar to the Rosewill model, except this one supports up to 14.3lbs, whereas the Rosewill only supports up to 13.2lbs. This one has gone on sale for $20 pretty regularly -- I bought both of mine at this price on separate occasions.
Lol well I did post that over 8 hours ago.
If you really want it go to this website and put 60 bucks in the desired price for "Amazon." It'll send you an email as soon as it goes on sale again, which is pretty frequent.
I had the 25" model for like 2 weeks, it looked pretty nice. Not sure about scratch and dent though.
Upgraded because the XB270HU went on sale for $420
Edit: looks like mine was a year newer maybe
Super powerful if you get a good one that plugs into the wall.
DataVac.
This would be one of the best deals for browns: https://www.amazon.com/Velocifire-Mechanical-Keyboard-Illuminated-Anti-ghosting/dp/B01M0QEYR4/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1480806984&sr=8-3&keywords=brown+mechanical+keyboard Full sized tenkey keyboard with browns and generally positive reviews on both Amazon and YouTube
The Acer H236HL is a better monitor in my opinion. Better bezels too. It doesn't officially support VESA, but you can use this. Though only get the monitor when it's on sale for $99 (usually from Best Buy). I've posted it multiple times on here when they have a sale.
I own 2 H236HL and a XB271HU.
If you're hardstuck at 50 bucks these are ok. Be aware that the "7.1" is SIMULATED and often sounds weird depending on game.
I think people should consider the Philips SHP9500 on a deep sale for $55 for Black Friday + VModa boom mic $30 as this is a pretty significant improvement in both headphone and mic quality with the bonus that the SHP9500 can be used for listening to music.
I have been recommending this to friends. I do think people should wait another 4-6 months for cheaper laptops with 1060/1070 in them but if you are okay with a 960m(overwatch high/GTA 5 medium high) this laptop is at a historic low according to camelcamelcamel $700. My wife has had it for about a year and a half and it has run fairly well. Will probably need a bios upgrade if you experience issues. But it is the best thing under $1000. If you can jump to $1300 + go for something with a 1060 in it. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B015PYYDMQ/ref=mp_s_a_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1480297924&sr=8-8&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=gaming%2Blaptop&dpPl=1&dpID=419DWJfUXuL&ref=plSrch&th=1&psc=1
Depends. For $300 or less, if you can get a Sapphire pulse/some other GOOD aib model and if you're willing to spend around 10 minutes undervolting then that's pretty Good. Here's a Pulse Vega 56 for $310 https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B07BGZNTQJ/ref=mw_dp_olp?ie=UTF8&condition=new
Although if you're not comfortable tweaking, which is completely understandable, then just wait for an aib rx 5700.

Best $50 I ever spent. Blowing dust out of a case or crumbs out of a keyboard has never been this much fun, and it pretty much pays for itself within a year.
Have this monitor and love it! I bought this mount as the stock one is kinda crap. I will be buying 2 more of these as 144hz is best hz
Cannot reccomend the Phillips SHP9500s enough. Very light, huuge ear cups, above average sound. They frequently go on sale for $50-60 bucks, abut are worth every penny of the $77 they are on amazon now. One of the more popular headphone/audio reviewers on YouTube gave them a glowing review.
I personally have had mine for over 2 years, and even though I have a set an Audeze LCD-2 sitting next to me, I always for the 9500s when gaming.
For a mic, if you want to get a standalone mic (like a Blue Yeti or Snowball) that works. Using a modmic would be a slightly expensive approach providing a more "gaming headset" looking solution.
Sure! But you'd probably prefer a pair of "open" headphones.
The Philips SHP9500 have been under $40 in the past, and would sound a lot better. Note that they don't block out noise at all, and people in the room would be able to hear what you're playing. If that's a problem then the AT M20x would be a good choice.
Same price on Amazon if you have Prime for free 2-day shipping. Or just, you know, gift cards to use.

Hopefully most people are getting the Sapphire Pulse Vega 56 for $299.99 from Amazon. I have that AND this Nitro+ Vega 64 in my house. Both are great cards.
Having used a T.V as my monitor for the past two years, I've been looking to get a 1440p, 144 Hz monitor to make the most of my gaming experience.
I have a Nvidia 970 and will be upgrading my PC when the next line of graphics cards releases.
This monitor seems perfect although I've been reading about the "monitor lottery". What other similar options are there (Two I came across: one and two? And is there any reason I should hold off on buying for now?
Edit: Also, having a Nvidia card, should I aim for G-Sync or will Freesync work as well?

My desk is super long and I dont use all of it, but the whole monitor setup will fit comfortably on a desk around 60", maybe as low as 40". It really depends on how/where you mount the monitor stands.

> Here are a few things to note: The 256GB, 512GB, and 2TB SKUs are also on sale using this code. The bottom three SKUs have the same $/GB while the 2TB has a premium ($404.99). The product page can be found here. Uses the Phison E12 with Toshiba's 64L 3D TLC NAND, like many other drives: Corsair MP510, MyDigitalSSD BPX Pro, Addlink S70, and Seagate BarraCuda/FireCuda 510. The warranty DOES NOT stand up with other drives in this category, it seems. As high warrantied TBW is a selling point of E12 drives, this is a disappointment; I suggest anyone interested in this drive contact Sabrent for clarification. Due to the previous two points, this drive would mostly fit the "Prosumer & Consumer" workstation category: fast sequentials, quad-core controller for heavier workloads and higher IOPS, basically a budget 970 EVO 11 | 22. I don't necessarily think this is a good deal on any particular SKU/capacity, but it's worth posting so the information is out there for those making decisions. There are a lot of these drives now.
I could be wrong but the link from the OP looks like a referral link.

Owned boards from all of the series above. Highly recommend looking on your local Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace, or /r/hardwareswap for used keyboards. Can easily get them for half price from keyboard addicts such as myself who have too many ;)
I also have this desk. This is my setup at full height:

Cable Management: involves the cable raceway attached below the desk using Command Strips from Wal-Mart. The cord management sleeves came in 4 pieces and I used that to organize all the wires. I have the speaker remote attached next to the lifting mechanism under the desk which is nice for quick volume control. The sub-woofer is placed on the desktop due my preference of having the fewest number of cables coming down from the desk. The one cord that hangs down is the power strip that runs to the outlet. The power strip is placed within the c-clamp of one of the monitor arms.

Price: I was able to get a lower price in September 2018 at Office Depot using a 20% off coupon that was in general circulation. The final price with taxes and shipping to store was $149.90. But, I would gladly pay the $159.99 listed here.

Overall, I love the desk. In fact, I bought another one for my wife. The ability to switch between standing and sitting with the lifting mechanism is well worth the low price I paid. The setup requires minimal effort to lift - I personally use two hands for stability. I do think that an addition of a computer tower on the desktop will make it difficult, but not impossible, to lift. There is mention of wobbling in one of the review videos on YouTube, but it is barely noticeable on a day to day use. I will say that my only complaint is the desktop is not solid wood and I have experienced a bit of surface lift after a cup with condensation was left on the desktop overnight. I recommend using a coaster if you plan to having drinks on your desk.
Hmmm... Maybe it's worth ordering the wrong one then... This is what mine looks like now.

I even had to rig the plastic spacer for the screw because the screw included with the base for the xg isn't threaded far enough down. I'd love to get one that replaces the whole neck instead.
You had to remove some of the plastic on the monitor, right? does the original stand then still work in case I sold the monitors and someone wanted to use the stand?
Is this the one you ordered?

I'm running an RX 480 with a 1080p 144 Hz monitor and it is so worth it. No question in my mind. The smoothness you get from that high of a refresh rate is like butter. Such a better viewing experience than 60/75 Hz, no matter what the game (even on the desktop lol). You can get a good one for ~$200 and that price difference is worth saving for imo.

I own one of these monitors and put it on this ...works great!
the patriot scorch is nvme.. it isn't quite a fair fight
but keep in mind that drive is nvme 1.2 ... most are 1.3 now
if you want NVME, this Sabrent Rocket for 60 is MUCH better for an NVME drive for only a few dollars more
Velocifire VM-01, Drevo Gramr, Nixeus Moda for browns. If you have a bit more money, though, I would go for a board from cooler master. I have one (with browns) and it's functional as well as RGB backlit without looking too "gamery". Hope this helps!

ACER I believe sells a couple of G-sync and Freesync versions of their 144hz AHVA monitors, however none I've seen have come close to being as cheap (I exclude refurbished in that figure, perhaps those have gotten closer)
You're looking at almost double the price for a modern G-sync variant.
The older model is often the same price, more expensive, or maybe $30 less. Can't really suggest that one then. Maybe a deal will pop up on that, but it would need to be a huge discount for me to personally do it.
Acer's g-sync option is also hovering around $750.
If you did one, I'd suggest the Asus one, as it's 165hz. If you're gunna spend all that money, might as well.
I have had this monitor for years and its been great. Recently I purchased this VESA mount adapter which fits into the slot for the monitors base with zero issues: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01771PJFK/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I gave my roommate the single arm NB version of that for his LG 29" ultrawide and it works great.
Why would anyone get this when you can get a new Acer with the same specs? Acer has much better color accuracy as well. https://www.amazon.com/Acer-G257HU-smidpx-25-Inch-Widescreen/dp/B00QS0AKVK

Sennheiser 599 is 2.5mm
if you have an m.2 slot on your build go for an NVMe drive. the adata drives that are on sale for this deal are SATA, which, although also is the m.2 form factor, are much slower than NVMe and don't take advantage of PCIe lanes that are available in almost all modern motherboards.
for $60 on a 500GB drive, don't get intel 660p, both because of speed and reliability issues. For $60 you can get
https://www.amazon.com/Sabrent-SB-ROCKET-512-Rocket-Internal-Performance/dp/B07KGMBCKD
which is a great consumer m.2 drive that will be fast enough for 95% of consumer use cases.

At 34 inch for 1080p ultrawide, that DPI isn't good. I would recommend 34 inch 1440p ultrawide, but those are exorbitantly expensive.
I would save $100 and go with 29 inch 1080p ultrawide.
I've been eyeing http://www.amazon.com/Dell-Inspiron-i7559-763BLK-Full-HD-GeForce/dp/B015PYYDMQ with amazing specs for the price. Seems comparable to the XPS 15, who needs i7.
It dropped down to $750 during BF.
$229 retail for this? Honestly, you can get a lot more for your money if you look. I got my main monitor, an TN Acer 144hz 1ms for $190 here. I think the price went up though. It even has a VESA mount. It's basically better in every way, just 3" less, but worth it in my opinion.
Don't get me wrong, this is a good deal if that's actually the retail price, but there's some things that are just not worth it. This is one.
This drive goes on sale every so often.
Ever so slightly slower but double capacity. Faster than the popular 660p.
The Nitro+ Vega 64 is an awesome card, but perhaps you'll consider the Sapphire Pulse RX Vega 56? It's $299 on Amazon: https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B07BGZNTQJ/
If you're goal is 1440p, the Vega 56 will be much better. There's a sapphire pulse model on Amazon for 319.99. https://www.amazon.com/Sapphire-11276-02-40G-Radeon-Pulse-Graphics/dp/B07BGZNTQJ
The pulse from amazon is probably a better deal if you can get it when it goes on stock.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B07BGZNTQJ/ref=dp_olp_0?ie=UTF8&condition=all
only concern is stock.
Any input on whether dell or lg is better?
I was thinking about this one as well
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/lg-29-ips-lcd-hd-219-ultrawide-monitor/4922000.p?skuId=4922000
actually maybe this
https://www.amazon.com/LG-29UM68-P-29-Inch-21-UltraWide/dp/B01B9IDLAW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1480267826&sr=8-1&keywords=lg+21+9+ultrawide+monitor
i'm just concerned about color quality as well. Plus it's a shame it's not a vespa mount
Not active anymore, I believe. You can grab it from amazon for $60. But you might as well wait 48 hours for cyber monday to end to see if you can snag anything better.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01771PJFK/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1467229281&sr=8-1&pi=SY200_QL40&keywords=acer+h236hl+vesa&dpPl=1&dpID=31-93rchZcL&ref=plSrch link is a little long haha, but according to the reviews the mount is sturdy. I'm not sure how well it would work for vertical monitors but I'm also interested in that for coding
whats the difference between OP and this?
is one necessarily better than the other? i know the amazon link is tenkeyless, but anything else?
Just goto amazon type in sabrent rocket.
https://www.amazon.com/Sabrent-SB-ROCKET-512-Rocket-Internal-Performance/dp/B07KGMBCKD/ref=mp_s_a_1_fkmrnull_1?crid=3U5PRGVJP9WZ9&keywords=sabrent%2Brocket&qid=1556298437&s=gateway&sprefix=sabrent%2Br&sr=8-1-fkmrnull&th=1&psc=1
They seem to be pretty exclusive, like not may vendors sell them yet. Not sure when the coupon drops but you could email them.
How would this compare to the Silicon Power SSD? I'm trying to replace my laptop's current m.2 ssd. I use it for light gaming and college work ,but I would like the option of transitioning it into laptop for professional workloads without dropping major budget on a Samsung 970 evo.
I think he means Amazon has had it on sale at this price for a while. It looks like since August 19th.
http://camelcamelcamel.com/Samsung-Electronics-EVO-Series-2-5-Inch-MZ-7TE250BW/product/B00E3W1726
I think the one off of Amazon is a much better deal if you're willing to pay at 799.99 since it has a 256GB SSD instead of the 1TB HDD.
http://www.amazon.com/Dell-Inspiron-i7559-763BLK-Full-HD-GeForce/dp/B015PYYDMQ
Looks like Amazon has price matched this one: https://www.amazon.com/Seagate-BarraCuda-3-5-Inch-Internal-ST2000DM006/dp/B01IEKG402
Pretty much same as sabrent rocket. Which is $59.99 regular price.
https://www.amazon.com/Sabrent-SB-ROCKET-512-Rocket-Internal-Performance/dp/B07KGMBCKD
Hard to tell as the deals aren't posted with price. Just found this though it's pretty cheap in general.

Any advice on these monitors? I'd like to get into 1440 + 144hz.

I have this monitor and it does not have a vesa mount.
I have been told that using an adapter works really well, but I still have mine on its original stand so I am not sure how sturdy they get with the adapter
https://smile.amazon.com/VESA-Mount-Adapter-Bracket-Monitors/dp/B01771Q5X0?sa-no-redirect=1
Good suggestion. I have been using one of those since 2011 https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B001J4ZOAW/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Ive been thinking about getting the Samsung EVO 240GB (link) when it was 139. Is this drive comparable to that in performance or should I wait for another 240GB drive with better performance to fall near the $120 price point?
This would be used to replace a Corsair Force Series 3 120GB SSD.
No, you have to buy an attachment on amazon.
Edit: Here's a link to the attachment you'd have to buy.
The cheapest it sells for is 59.99 on Amazon which is $.03 per GB. From Newegg the offer is free shipping and no tax to my state. So this deal just barely edges out the competition. The 3TB went on sale a week or two ago for $75 which is $.025 per GB. Much better value with the 3TB, that fraction of a cent difference is equal to $10 less for a 2TB and $15 less for a 3TB. Don't know if there is worse performance out of larger HDD's or not.
edit: HDD platters are the same physical size. Meaning bigger hard drives have higher data density. So, theoretically the larger capacity drive will be slightly faster simply because the information is closer together. The difference is probably imperceptible though.
If you have the funds then I’d go for a 4K TV for the PS5 and a better monitor then this one like an Acer monitor [ Acer Predator XB271HU Abmiprz 27-inch WQHD (2560x1440) NVIDIA G-SYNC Monitor (Display Port & HDMI Port, 144Hz) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N11QIYW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_kxAZCb857JWYP ]
For another $7.30, the Sabrent Rocket 512gb is much better.
To my surprise after doing a little research, this thing is no joke. Reviews are off the chain with this thing. If I didn't already spend a lot of money on clothes I would have definitely considered getting this. Maybe next year!
I have this one, and it's amazing. Obviously most media isn't in an ultrawide format, but if you want to browse while watching something there is more than enough screen real estate to do it.
http://www.amazon.com/Metro-Vacuum-ED500-500-Watt-Electric/dp/B001J4ZOAW
Available on Amazon as well
Same price on amazon as well, with prime. $139.99.
You can get a 256gb SSD with 1080p IPS and the i5-6300 on amazon for $660 as well.
https://www.amazon.com/Dell-Inspiron-i7559-2512BLK-Generation-GeForce/dp/B015PYYDMQ?th=1
Yes there are some that are monitor specific or universal ones that are pretty much just a giant clamp that will hold your monitor from the top and bottom bezel.
I believe this would fit but I am not 100% sure.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01DAYR3ZM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_0F2IAbE3X5PY9
I highly recommend this baby http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001J4ZOAW/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s02?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Metro Vacuum ED500 DataVac 500-Watt 0.75-HP Electric Duster 120 volt
This one is compatible. I believe the model isn't listed an amazon's page, but the vendor's site lists this monitor as compatible. The wobble's not too terrible. I notice every couple of days that my monitor is slightly askew and just fix it by hand.
I wouldn't recommend portrait mode, as the adapter just slides into place and there's no bolt.
or get this
https://smile.amazon.com/ED500-DataVac-500-Watt-0-75-HP-Electric/dp/B001J4ZOAW/
works out cheaper in long run, basically a vacuum in reverse, have convinced past 2 work places to buy one.
Not sure if i'm missing something, but the XF240H at $150(which I personally bought a few months ago around $180) seems to be a better option? It's got a good stand and VESA mount, 144Hz, Freesync. People complain about the colors out of the box but just set something up (I don't care much, I'm colorblind).
https://www.amazon.com/Acer-XF240H-bmjdpr-24-inch-FreeSync/dp/B01DHTWZRQ
That would be awesome. I was looking at this bad boy, but it's a bit more than I wanted to spend.

FYI- these work great.
I'd just like to give you the heads up that the Philips SHP9500 are currently on sale for $55 on Amazon if that's within your budget, which are a very common pairing with the BoomPro.
It looks like it's an extra $31 assuming this is the one he's talking about
What differences might someone new to PC gaming—ahem, me—expect to find between this Coolmaster keyboard and a budget pick like this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MS8YTYX/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
The ex920 or any of the E12 drives like Silicone Power or Sabrent etc. I just ordered this guy yesterday; https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07L6GF81L
Any reason to go with this over NVME? Seems like this is only for those that can't use NVME with the price being so close.
https://www.amazon.com/Silicon-Power-Gen3x4-000MB-SU001TBP34A80M28AB/dp/B07L6GF81L/
Bought this the other day from a post on here.
https://www.newegg.com/samsung-970-evo-plus-500gb/p/N82E16820147742
Link is just an example, but it's a solid drive. They go on sale occasionally. Doesn't get much more simple than that, no need for the two sata cables. It slides into a slot and is held down by a screw. The 500GB will hold your OS and a fair amount of games for around $100. I have a 250GB I use as a boot drive in one computer. In another I have this (again just for reference. Quite a bit cheaper than the Samsung and also well reviewed.
Then you can always add more drives at a later time if need be. You can link most game clients to different locations for games. So it won't matter for that.
Edit: Someone just posted this 500GB NVME drive for $50. Your board has two NVME slots it looks like. As long as you aren't planning on doing SLI or something crazy you'd have 1TB of storage for $100+ tax. Or do the logical thing and pay the $10 more for the 1TB version.
Better deal (IMO) $29.99 Link
Cherry MX Brown Equivalent, less noisy (try to stream using the blues.. so noisy) and backlight.
What's the difference between this monitor and the Acer G257HU? This one says 1440p IPS display as well
Dell 7559 for
$769$788 shipped for those that want a 960M. This one has the i7-6700HQ, 1TB SSHD, and 16GB of RAM. Refurb. Also i5 version on Amazon for $699, new.Edit: Added Amazon link.
Seemingly there are some vesa mount adapter's you can get on amazon for around 30$ for this monitor. But I also remembered 27" is too big for a 1080p monitor isn't it?
https://www.amazon.com/VESA-Mount-Adapter-Bracket-Monitors/dp/B01771Q5X0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1465937008&sr=8-1&keywords=acer+vesa+adapter
You can search the reviews by keyword for the specific model to see which adapter you'd need!
No. Same monitor is on sale for $485 on Amazon right now: https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-XB241H-bmipr-1920x1080/dp/B01N11QIYW/
FYI this monitor is the TN version and goes on sale all the time. If you want a TN monitor, the Dell S2716DG for $499 may actually be preferable https://www.amazon.com/Dell-Gaming-S2716DG-LED-Lit-Monitor/dp/B0149QBOF0
Also there's the always common Acer Recertified deal on the IPS version. Right now its $545 (when in stock).

My idea was to future proof everything except the CPU. I'll eventually buy an i7 7700K (or comparable kaby lake CPU that will be under $100 hopefully) and overclock it maybe 2-3 years from now and add more RAM and maybe storage
Just get a vega 56. You can get double fan sapphire card for $15 more and get more performance out of it. Link
Make sure to look at reviews for the NVMe only (Most, if not all, of those RMA stories involve the 3D NAND) : https://www.amazon.com/Silicon-Power-Gen3x4-000MB-SU001TBP34A80M28AB/product-reviews/B07L6GF81L/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_viewopt_fmt?ie=UTF8&reviewerType=all_reviews&formatType=current_format&pageNumber=1
EDIT: Silver Model is $208.08. However its the G247HU, and is 24".
THERE IS NO VESA MOUNT - Buy an adapter for it here
If you're like me, and you just want a simple 1440p monitor, I'd say this is a great value option. Ticks a lot of boxes for me.
does the stand you speak of (perhaps this one?) allow for rotation?
Is the IPS version of this monitor truly worth the extra $200?
https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-XB271HU-Abmiprz-2560x1440/dp/B01N11QIYW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1497536801&sr=8-1&keywords=xb271hu&th=1
Yup,
here it is:
I have had mine for around 5 years and its going strong.
its a bit loud, but makes quick work out of dusting and overall cleaning for cases/components.
The lower spec 960 with only 2 GB of ram is disappointing. The Dell Inspiron 7599 is $300 cheaper and has the 4GB 960, but an i5-6500hq instead of the i7. Less ram too, but you could upgrade the Dell for cheaper than the MSI and end up with a better gaming performer overall.
you can buy mounts to make them vesa compatible. I have two and they work well. Granted they are $25 a piece though
I would get this one instead. I'm fairly certain they're all made by the same oem. That should be everything you need.
Ah, well I think for my first mech keyboard it should be decent. Newegg Amazon (Acer XF240H) Currently sold out from both, but you can back order it from newegg. Amazon also usually has them back in soonish, from my monitoring the past few weeks. (Usually 199$)
Although they do sell adaptors like this: http://www.amazon.com/VESA-Mount-Adapter-Bracket-Monitors/dp/B01771Q5X0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1458223007&sr=8-1&keywords=vesa+adapter+acer
Personally I'd just try to rig something up using the stock stand though, I've seen DIY videos doing that.
I have a feeling this monitor is same as the Acer XF240h with a worse stand. Can you try some of these calibrations and see if they work for you?

i suggest you be on the lookout for this

If you really want to VESA mount it, there is an adapter available for this monitor here http://www.amazon.com/Adapter-Bracket-Monitors-H226HQL-H236HL/dp/B01771PJFK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1465023742&sr=8-1&keywords=h236hl+vesa
Yeah there is here. I was thinking about buying them months back. They were pretty damn expensive. But I have no use for them now cause I'm upgrading my monitors anyway. :P
Yeah true. I was relying on it maybe going on sale during black friday but CCC isn't showing it as getting any big sales ever in its life. I may just snag the LG 29UM68-P, since I'm not really interested in spending $800+ on a monitor I mostly won't be playing games on.
OP meant it as Amazon already lowered their price to match Newegg's. i.e. It's currently $59.99 on Amazon.
I can't seem to find any in-depth, professional reviews about this monitor. PC Part Picker's list of monitors that are at least 1440p tells me the G257HU is the cheapest one it knows, and it's been like that for months.
There's no VESA mount, but there are adapters for that; this one is $32.
As far as I can tell, it's a rebrand/clone of the Silicon Power A80. the review can be found here.
When you look at the PCB layout of the A80 (shown in review) compared to the Inland Premium's on the amazon listing, the board components are exactly the same - dram vendor, solder points, controller, everything.
The A80 can also be found on amazon for a similar price here - there's even a 2tb model but afaik that one is double sided, meaning it may not fit in some space-constrained slots.
this is the standard price on amazon
2nd this, here's one a bit cheaper https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001J4ZOAW/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_i_1-pVCbHCFPXTP

It's really only 28$ more, as the Samsung Evo 840 250GB is 72$ off on prime today.
The EVO is $139.99 now:

Any reason to get this over the slightly smaller Acer G257HU?

I'd rather take a 25" with IPS than a 27" with TN
Hrm, there used to be a 660 dollar deal on an HP laptop with a 960m and a 1080p IPS screen which is comparable to OP's laptop. This model: https://www.amazon.com/Dell-15-6-Inch-Quad-Core-i5-6300HQ-Processor/dp/B015PYYDMQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1481868034&sr=8-1&keywords=960m
edit: what i'm trying to say is, it's not a blowout deal. check on slickdeals for a 960m laptop and you'll see what i mean (take a look at the expired deals)
Or you can buy one for the lazy.
it's spendy, but there are options.
