I'd also recommend SHADA. It's Tom Bakers doctor, but still a fantastic read.

Might I also suggest, she may really enjoy some of the Doctor Who Audio Books. Several of them are narrated by cast members, including Matt Smith, The Runaway Train, The Jade Pyramid.

Arthur Darvill (Rory), The Night Of The Humans plus a few others.

David Tennent, Pest Control, as well as a few others. I really like the Tennent ones because he narrates in his native Scottish accent, but then fluidly flips to his Doctor accent for the dialog.

Catherine Tate (Donna), The Forever Trap. Those are only a few of the great audio adventures.

My favorite one at the moment is Prisoner of the Daleks read by Nicholas Briggs, who does the voices of the Daleks in the new series, and he does a FANTASTIC Tennent impression.

You can get the audio CD's from places like Amazon/Chapters or they have tons of them on the iTunes store.

Some of these stories you can get in novel format as well, but what I enjoy about the audiobooks is the cast members narrating, the small but significant soundtracks, and the emotions you can get through voice but no in print. And hearing "EXTERMINATE!" is much more terrifying than reading it. ;)

If you decide to go that route, I hope she enjoys them! I certainly do!

Edit: Just came across this, a boxset of 6 audio books based on 11th doctor that comes in a neat TARDIS box! Bit pricey, but kinda cool.

There are a lot of them, so some of them are better than others. I prefer the audiobooks though.

I have this pack TARDIS Adventure Audiobook Pack and the only thing I really enjoyed about them was that they are read by cast members.

However, I really, really enjoyed Prisoner of the Daleks. I'd suggest it as an audiobooks because 1) it's narrated by the guy who does the voices for the daleks, so all Dalek voices are... mechanical, as they should be, and 2) the guy does an amazing David Tennent impression. I honestly thought he had done some of the lines himself. It's a really great story, and it makes the Daleks scary again.

Alrighty then...

Beneath the Surface A really great deal for three stories

Dalek War Good deal for two good Pertwee stories

The Green Death Last story of Jo Grant and creepy maggots.

The Time Warrior One of my favorite Pertwee stories. Holmes hated doing historical stories but this is still wonderful.

The movie was pretty cool at the time due to the scrap of hope it offered. In hindsight, there's some elements that feel out of place and others that foreshadow what the 2005 relaunch was to become.

I do recommend the Revisitations re-release of this. It features an excellent documentary about the struggle to relaunch Doctor Who after its cancellation in 1989.

posted this on a separate thread before I knew of this one

Earlier on I was asking here for opinions on a Doctor Who book to get for her.

I settled on the Doctor Who: Character Encyclopedia

I 3D printed this Tardis from Thingverse

I then created small cards to fit into the Tardis, each card had a picture of a character from Doctor Who (all 12 Doctors, several companions, and some villains). On the back I put the name of the character, a quote from them, and the year in which they were active.

Here is a sample of the gift

Even more awesome was that /u/b2monstermouse handmade this necklace. It instantly went onto my niece's neck and I couldn't get a picture of it.

I haven't read the whole thing yet but it's pretty cool so far :) here's the link (assuming you're in the UK) http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/0723294364/ref=mp_s_a_1_sc_1?qid=1421587001&sr=8-1-spell&pi=AC_SX110_SY165

I debated for a long time on which poster I wanted for my own room. I wanted one with the tardis and at least 1 of the doctors in it, and this is the one that I settled on. This way I didn't have to choose between 10 & 11. Hope this helps whovian friend!

You'll do well with two options off the top of my head:

The Key to Time with Tom Baker, that set spans an entire series.

And The Trial of a Timelord with Colin Baker. I recommend the former ;)

u/Don_Garvey · 1 pointr/doctorwho

Peter Haining wrote these amazing Doctor Who non-fiction "textbooks" in the 80's, they all appear to be out of print but not very expensive in the aftermarket.

I studied these books like they were scripture when I was a kid.

u/dsnchntd · 2 pointsr/doctorwho

I would definitely go with, like the other commenters have said, a functioning sonic screwdriver. But you might also consider, his journal

u/Natalia_Bandita · 2 pointsr/doctorwho

I just ordered this last night. I hope its worth it!

u/shanem · 2 pointsr/doctorwho

By download you of couse mean legally purchase it through Amazon to support the show and not comsucks right? right??

u/Yukle · 1 pointr/doctorwho

So far I have decided to get her an adipose stress toy, 7's TARDIS key necklace, and a fez.

Anything else I should consider?
Thanks! :)

That's because it's officially not apart of season 4. If you were to look for it, it would be called Doctor Who: The Complete Specials because during David's last year, they were trying to make it easier to transition from the previous showrunner, Russell T. Davis, to the current one, Steven Moffat. Also, David also stared in the BBC movie Hamlet. I know it says from 2008 to 2010, but that's because it's from Christmas 2008 to New Year's Day 2010, so it's basically a year and change. But yeah, officially part of season 4, except when it comes to sales for DVD's

try this... I don't remember how I initially found it but here is the web page I have it saved on. Let me know if it works.

u/gumarx · 2 pointsr/doctorwho

I'd think this is pretty cool. There is also a Tardis Cookie Jar or a color changing mug. The mug is out of stock right now though :(

Shooting Scripts for the specials; using their official production codes of 4.14, 4.15, 4.16, 4.17 and 4.18. These scripts were uploaded by Russell T Davies himself on The Writer's Tale website (which has since been deleted). The following are an archive link.

The Next Doctor

Planet of the Dead

The Waters of Mars

The End of Time Part 1

The End of Time Part 2

Official Merchandise referring to the specials as part of Series 4:

The Soundtrack

Action figure set

This confirms the specials are part of Series 4 and were commissioned as an extension to Series 4 rather than a standalone series. They are part of the Series 4 production and so are part of Series 4. If they were not meant to be part of Series 4, the Specials would be listed as part of the Series 5 production.

David Tennant's contract was for 3 series and RTD's was for 4. This is one of the main reasons the Specials are an extension of Series 4 (so BBC wouldn't have to enter contract renegotiation with them). Plus IIRC it's why they were able to get Catherine Tate and Bernard Cribbins to return; as they were still contracted as regulars for Series 4 and since the Specials were part of Series 4 they had to return.

Unofficially, the Specials are a standalone thing (mainly because BBC can make more money out of selling 2 DVD boxsets rather than 1). But officially they are part of Series 4, with the most likely reason being contracts (it was easier to make them an extension of Series 4 rather than renegotiating everyone's contracts). If they didn't, the official production codes for the Specials would be 5.X, 5.1, 5.2, 5.3 and 5.4 as they would be part of the Series 5 production and this would have meant renegotiating everyone's contracts for another series and paying Tennant and RTD for an extra series.

Plus having the Specials be an extension of Series 4 allowed Series 5 to start it's pre-production earlier (since the two were separate productions).

I've got a few books for my kids already that they have just about memorized.

Doctor Who: Character Encyclopedia

Doctor Who: The Dangerous Book of Monsters

It's hilarious, because we'll watch a few episodes together, or I'll watch some and report back to them, and before I can finish telling them about it, they're telling me things about the characters and monsters that I didn't even know.

I think the adipose was their favorite, for obvious reasons.

Maybe I'll pick up this set for a birthday present some time.

u/twadepsvita · 1 pointr/doctorwho

I think you'll just have to buy the stories individually like we have to here in the UK.
Here
they
all
are.

Never underestimate the power of a squeaky face toy as an interrogation tool.

From a post by /Lyric104:

>This one comes close on looks, but (sadly) speaks instead of squeaking:

It's close but not close enough. There's money to be made here BBC.

You can get it for under $5 on Amazon.

Only six complete season sets have been released, but the BBC is currently in the process of releasing a new Blu-ray season box set every few months. Here are the complete seasons that have been released so far:

Season 10 (Blu-ray; pre-order)

Season 12 (Blu-ray)

Season 16 (DVD)

Season 18 (Blu-ray)

Season 19 (Blu-ray)

Season 23 (DVD; out of print in US)

u/yeahwellokay · 2 pointsr/doctorwho

I have this on my Amazon wishlist, but I can't decide if it's worth $25.

Adipose Stress Toy

u/TabascoQuesadilla · 2 pointsr/doctorwho

You're missing the Specials (basically "Series 4.5"). Assuming you're Region 1, since I didn't see any BBFC ratings on the package - here you go.

u/Warlach · 1 pointr/doctorwho

I found this one and this one.

Neither seem to have a remote at all, though, so if it's either one of those I'd hesitate to say no. You need the device to have a remote putting out an infrared signal, that the Sonic can learn, and something on the device to receive said signal.
