Getting much off-topic here, but:

Programming is kinda like art. It doesn't matter if you're using oils or watercolours or crayons or charcoal or pencil or a Biro, just do it. You can pick up other art-forms later, and it'll be much easier to once you're learnt one. What's more important is that you start, have an interest, and are willing to practice and learn.

That said, it'll likely be easier to pick a language that has a good beginner community around it as a first language. Python is an example with a huge beginner community. Perhaps you might prefer to start with an interactive tutorial like the free interactive version of How to Think Like a Computer Scientist, or you'd prefer to read a book like Python Programming for the Absolute Beginner, or perhaps both! Doesn't matter.

Once you're reasonably comfortable with a language, you can pick up more. A language you might want to familiarize yourself with eventually would be C, since it's practically the lingua franca for systems-level programming. If you're interested in emulation, you will eventually want to become familiar with the assembly language for the types of CPU(s) you're interested in emulating.

Good luck.

The screen tearing issue is SUPER exaggerated. I've put dozens of hours into the Pocket Go and VERY few games are actually affected by it, pretty much only games with super fast horizontal side scrolling. Racing games with mode7 scrolling and even full 3D GBA games look great. There is a little slowdown on the more graphically intense games, but shutting off the sound from the emulator menu always fixes it.

The display isn' is $10 more with more RAM and a better display. I' a $200 for a GPD XD, the Pocket Go plays thousands of games near perfectly for an insanely low price and I have no idea why it gets so much hate.

EDIT: So the new LDK is only $20 more with more RAM, a 60hz refresh rate and the same horizontal layout. I still think the Pocket GO has the better form factor and is the more handsome console, but I'm actually going to get an LDK as well for better PS1 emulation. Check out the LDK if screen tearing is a deal-breaker for you.

EDIT 2: A really great comparison of the 2 systems is on youtube, they each have their virtues.

>I guess my question is, how beefy should I make this pc? Do I need a heavy graphics card or a stronger single core processor? Do I need Linux or can I achieve this in Windows?

This will depend on what you want, and how far you want to go. My emulation and gaming rig is:

  • Intel Core i5 4690k
  • Gigabyte GTX 970 Mini OC
  • 8GB DDR3 1600 RAM
  • couple SSDs
  • Windows 8.1

It's solid for the purpose, and I've got it in a mini-ITX case(Thermaltake Core V1) and replaced my stock cooler with an Arctic Freezer 7 Pro and threw in two Noctua 80mm fans on PWM. Sounds like overkill, and it probably is, but I wanted a powerful, but cool and quiet build I could treat like a TV console. Plus, keeping the case temps low also reduces the overall heat in my den where I play. Small rooms can heat up quickly.

It boots up faster than my TV turns on, plays everything I throw at it, and the CPU never gets higher than 62c (and it takes Prime95 to do that, it rarely goes above 59c when gaming, ~30-33c when idle). It also emulates PS2 games at 6x-8x interal resolution with FXAA and shaders, which was important to me because I'm gaming on a 4k TV.

Technically speaking you could get away with much lower specs. But I would recommend at minimum the i5 4690k CPU, and a decent GPU. If you're gaming at 1080p even a low end video card will do for PS2 and Gamecube emulation, not sure about Wii. But the better your card the more you can upscale the games internally on the renderer.

As to using other controllers, this may work for you but I would make sure that the emu's you intend to use support GC controllers. I have this same adapter and it worked just fine for GC games on the Wii.

On a side note, there was a licensed by Nintendo third party controller made by Hori which uses a Game Cube like stick.

Okay that looks to be a PSP 1000 so this will be very easy. But first, to put the files you need on the memory card you will need a PSP data cable like this one: http://www.amazon.com/PSP-USB-Cable-Sony/dp/B0009DPQYI/ref=pd_sim_sbs_vg_1 or a memory stick reader of some sort, but the data cable is usually much cheaper.

Edit not a 1000 it is actually a 3000.

i know of and im not talking about that version, that one is absolute garbage...

the old one was an actual c64 clone and was really dang good and so far ahead of its time.

THIS is the one im talking about

edit: its a full c64 too and people have modded it and there are kits to make it fully functional as a normal c64 clone.

Hm? I've never had trouble finding them myself and they've stayed consistently cheap on Amazon for the past month, if not longer. I've been watching that page in particular since I read about the Dreampi, and I almost ordered it before my little brother found the same color VMU in a retro games store recently and purchased it for me.

Not that crazy, but I put a fair amount of effort into Trauma Center. It's played with the Nunchuck's analogue stick to select tools, with the pointer to control everything else. Digital keyboard felt awkward, and you can't do anything accurately with pointer on analogue.

So I bought a Bluetooth dongle and spent a day setting up SCPToolkit to connect my PSMove Navigation Controller. It worked well, until I found that the game was damn near impossible with the wiimote rotate movement bound to buttons, as it'd constantly rotate when the button was held, then rotate back when released.

So I then had to spend another day getting the controller working through Steam's controller configurator, with a toggleable control set swapping the analogue stick to control rotation, all for just two games.

I'm still unsure if the game was worth all the effort put in, but it was still damn fun!

The platform doesn't matter.

Maybe if people like you didn't pirate, the PSP wouldn't have suffered the same fate it did

And if you couldn't find it new, You clearly didn't look hard.

Oh wait, you didn't look at all, your just using that as a excuse to pirate.

Fucking scumbag.

As someone beginner/barely intermediate with 3D programming... seriously don't start with vulkan first. Vulkan is not easy even for experienced graphics devs at this point.

Here's some resources I like, though.

It was a CD-Rom that came with the Running Press Publishing Dinosaur Hunter Discover Kit. You could go to different prehistoric periods and view different dinosaurs that lived during that time. It showed pictures and gave info about each dinosaur. There were sound effects and a few short videos. You could also print out coloring pages of some of the dinosaurs (awesome). Here is a link to the book that came with the kit I think. It was a long time ago.

Try re-downloading the archive. Maybe the person that archived it messed it up if that's the case find another source or You could buy the game and make your own backup. Side note I just now discovered they released it on PSN for $9.99 link

actually as far as halo 2 goes, they released a retail copy of the Mutliplayer maps and the 1.5 patch so its not like its lost.

https://www.amazon.com/Halo-2-Multiplayer-Map-Pack-Xbox/dp/B000930DA0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1482202534&sr=8-1&keywords=halo+2+multiplayer+map+pack

as for everything else, the console was hacked a early into its lifespan, so im sure that if you look hard enough online you can find this stuff.
