Note all keyboard mouse combos use Esc for back. Need to use enter to select at main menu but sub menus the mouse select works

Mele f10
have to flip over for Esc/back button. Works good pretty accurate. Cue and rewind work in circle select area. Have to flip over and hit space bar to play/pause

Logitech N5902, exceedingly akward IMHO. Worked great with HTPC but not good with FireTV. BTW do not buy at amazon if you think you may want one it is too expensive. If more than $30 you are paying too much. Once again not good for FireTV but good for HTPC.

Actually, no that doesn't seem right. Sounds like you've installed another browser and that's why it's behaving so frustratingly.

This is what I was referring to: https://www.amazon.com/Amazon-com-Silk-Browser/dp/B01M35MQV4

I'm not sure if you can add the app to your FireTV from that link but you really shouldn't need to side load Silk with your phone. It's really straight forward: press and hold the microphone button, say "Silk Browser", and then you should see it in the search results. Click on it and install it.

YouTube on the Silk browser functions almost exactly like the old app. That said, its UI and search could really use some improvement. You won't, however, have to use the mouse to maximize the video: you select a video and it'll play in full screen.

Well the Stick does not have a USB input for drives so that rules that out period.

The Box does have a USB input but it does only fat32 (NO NTFS) so it is a max of 2 TB drive and files up to 4GB,that will rule out 720p+ movies.

Without setting your hard drive up as a network share somehow then I would not recommend the AFTV. Someone in another thread suggested this as a plain media player for attached storage:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008NO9RRM?refRID=0JF1G7K7R0QJ6AMWASTB&ref_=pd_ybh_a_16

I switched from WDTVs and have both a stick and box, without a good router the stick will be a little problematic sometimes, I much prefer the hard wired box and works great using Kodi with my NAS. I also will pop some things on a microSD card to play real quick.

Also in another thread, someone recommended this:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HZWOQZ6?refRID=0JF1G7K7R0QJ6AMWASTB&ref_=pd_ybh_a_17

To turn your hard drive into a network share wirelessly.

For on the go, a Fire TV Stick (gen 2) with an OTG cable is the way to go, unless you need 4K. If you have non-Fat32 drives that hold your media that you don't want to reformat, I'd suggest some sort of file sharing device to make them available over a network. Something like this https://www.amazon.com/HooToo-Wireless-Performance-TripMate-Hotspot/dp/B00HZWOQZ6. I'm using a super cheap PogoPlug that I've enabled SMB sharing on, and it feeds 1080p to my FireTVs flawlessly.

You will have to somehow split the FireTV Stick's audio out of the HDMI signal. They make things like that, for instance this one I just found on a quick search: http://amzn.com/B00KBHX072

That said, if you're spending $39 on a FireTV stick and another $30 on a box to split the audio out, you might find the full FireTV to be a better value.

u/joeredspecial · 2 pointsr/fireTV

Well this is interesting. The FireTV stick comparison page now says "coming next year" for HBO Go. I'm pretty sure it used to say December or end of the year, it looks like it's been quietly delayed. I'm not happy about this at all.

I moved files back and forth lots of times using ES Explorer. Open the app on both your phone and your stick, select the file on your stick and choose the "send" option, which will pull up all other devices on your LAN with the app open and let you select which device to send the file to. It's pretty easy.

I tried doing this by side-loading Chrome remote desktop but apparently FireTV doesn't allow anything that uses a Google account which is kind of shitty.

I'd suggest trying to side-load Splashtop on it, it's my second choice for high quality real-time streaming. I've not tried this but I'd guess it would work well.

I have used Limelight to stream games onto it which works AMAZINGLY well. But, that requires a semi-modern Nvidia GPU in the computer. If you can do this you can probably launch steam in big picture mode and use the browser in it.

Other than that Chromecast allows a quick and easy brodcast from a desktop computer's browser tab or desktop. There may be an app somewhere that emulates a chromecast.

Also, you can side-load Chrome and just use the browser on the TV to access whatever you're looking for. You can do this without rooting your device. If you need help side-loading apps let me know and I'll give some links.

Thanks for the shoutout /u/ratraget! Hey all I'm the developer behind FitzyTV. It basically acts as a Program Guide and Cloud DVR for any channel you have access to through your TV subscriptions. You can find the app here: https://www.amazon.com/FitzyTV-Streaming-TV-Cloud-DVR/dp/B07DFW52P3. Just launched a revamped app so would love your feedback!

u/sillycyco · 2 pointsr/fireTV

So you want to copy the files to the local storage on the Firetv over the network?

You can do this with ES File Explorer.

You will have to share the files over the network though. That is the only way to... share files over the network.

u/Nabsbeats · 3 pointsr/fireTV

If you have a 6xx series Nvidia card, I'd recommend giving Limelight a shot: http://www.amazon.com/Cameron-Gutman-Limelight-Game-Streaming/dp/B00JK4MFN2/

Just add Steam to your Nvidia GeForce Experience game list, and you'll be able to stream via Big Picture Mode.

Sideclicks are pretty awesome but just seem a little expensive for what they are.

Another option is the addon remote but they do not have enough buttons for me. I need channel up/down and a ways to scroll though the tv inputs and hit "enter".

Edit: I just read that you said you don't have the original remote... You will need them for both of these options since they are learning.

u/cstark · 1 pointr/fireTV

Shouldn't have any problems with it if it's the same as my FireTV box.

"Dolby Audio Support for Dolby Audio, 5.1 surround sound, 2ch stereo and HDMI audio pass through up to 7.1"

u/GabeMamas · 1 pointr/fireTV

People are claiming this one works with our gen. I ordered 2 I'm hoping they will.

u/Zagor64 · 2 pointsr/fireTV

You are going from a digital (HDMI) to analog (VGA) so you will need some kind of converter/transcoder, also don't forget that HDMI carries audio so if you need to convert the audio (if you can't make use of the optical port already on the FireTV), something like this should work.

u/3r0z · 2 pointsr/fireTV

If you can't connect your HD straight to your router, get one of these. I use it to connect a 2TB NTFS formatted drive to my 8 year old router and can find all the files in Kodi just fine.

u/priority_one · 1 pointr/fireTV

Does your TV have optical or coaxial output, and your sound bar have the same input? Take a look and your TV may be able to control the sound bar as it's primary sound.

I also agree with u/kberson I use the Harmony Hub because it allows me to use my voice to control all my media devices. Here's the sub reddit r/logitechharmony

Mine is an original wired Xbox controller.

I am using a non-powered hub. Here's the one I have.

Please login at amazon.com then click Get the app button. If auto update enable it'll sync AppleTV+ app for downloading from appstore.

There are HDMI audio extractor boxes for just this purpose. Fairly inexpensive too, here's the first one I found:

ViewHD HDMI Audio Extractor | Optical Toslink + L/R Stereo Analog Converter Outputs | VHD-H2HSAs | Support Amazon Fire TV, etc https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KBHX072/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_y-2-ybYVR27H5

Using these two apps I can use my phone as a remote to get into PIA settings. Also, PIA allows per-app settings for VPN. So, you can set PIA so that the VPN is only active for Kodi, but inactive for Prime and Netflix, for example.

I haven't used a mouse on a Fire TV, so this could be different, but when I've used them on Android tablets in the past moving the mouse would give you a cursor, and clicking would be the same as a tap.

What I use for touch apps on Fore TV is this Bluetooth controller which also has a mouse mode that lets you move the curser with the joystick and click with the A button.

u/Greg00135 · 5 pointsr/fireTV

I mean they do have Live TV though the Recast but it would be what ever you can get locally Over the Air through an Antenna.

u/beechview76 · 2 pointsr/fireTV

I was able to use my projector which only has a vga input and a direct TV genie box using this, http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003O55U8K?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_search_detailpage

u/osirisad · 1 pointr/fireTV

I would bet that it does. If you're looking for a relatively inexpensive Bluetooth controller that works on the stick, I know for a fact this controller works.

u/Brad0210 · 1 pointr/fireTV

i've been using this one for several years for a gen2 ftv

rii mini

full functionality except for voice control

u/HULKx · 2 pointsr/fireTV

They sell replacement relies on Amazon

u/joeschm0e · 2 pointsr/fireTV

I purchased it on my computer by just going to amazon.com in Chrome and searching for it. Here is the link: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07XDD7GYT/ref=cm_sw_r_pi_dp_U_x_CmDYDbYV0MRTT

I think it warned that I don't have a compatible device, but it still let me purchase it.

u/scottvv · 6 pointsr/fireTV

Have you tried using the official Fire TV remote app? Has keyboard and voice features built-in. Click here for iOS or here for Android.

u/dingochutney · 2 pointsr/fireTV

Sorry, I was struggling to remember on the bus when I wrote that! It's this:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Application-Organizer-Pro-Fire-Edition/dp/B00Q3907T6

I'm sure I paid less than 3 quid for it though :/

u/SomeIndividualNotMe · 1 pointr/fireTV

I think that paste may be from the thread he mentions there. I can get the keyboard to try and pair, but it won't allow me to input the code and push enter. I think pressing the power button for 10 seconds from off should put it in pairing mode, but from there you're basically screwed.

http://www.amazon.com/Hausbell-H7-Wireless-Entertainment-Keyboard/dp/B00B9996LA/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1398827669&sr=8-2-fkmr0&keywords=hauswell+htpc+keyboard this allegedly works.
