The official headset has been confirmed to be supported on the PS4,

I have the older model which I'm pretty sure it will be supported but on the tweet or answer on the blog (officially from sony) they mentioned the "Pulse" which is the newer version which is a bit more expensive.

I would buy the Pulse just to play it safe, but I gotta tell you, these headsets are amazing, I have a 7.1 HD surround which is awesome, but when playing late at night this headset is as close as it gets to surround.

I also use it on my pc/mac.

I strongly recommend Philips SHP9500 with a V-MODA BoomPro over HyperX Cloud (II), and in general. SHP9500 has a larger soundstage, better imaging and detail retrieval, and much better clarity and bass and treble quality. It has a neutral/balanced sound profile, meaning it has no increased or decreased bass and treble. Soundstage and imaging are shortly told the stereo equivalent of virtual surround sound and they constitute positional audio. The headphone sits around the ears and has an open design, so it allows sound to freely pass through. The benefit to this is generally a larger soundstage and better imaging than what you get with closed headphones. It has a durable and lightweight build. And no flimsy or squeaky parts.

This is like a traditional headset except that the headphone and mic are sold separately. The mic connects to the headphone’s jack, replacing the original headphone cable. The mic has a mute switch and volume control.

SHP9500 goes often on sale on Newegg.com for around $50.

Because the going price for "good" headphones is way above $100. It may be a lot for you personally, and you wouldn't be wrong to believe that is a fair price for high quality, but the reality of it is that $100 is considered entry level by enthusiasts. When you consider that a headset is more complex than a headphone due to the addition of a microphone, mute switch, lighter weight for ergonomics, plus 7.1 surround sound marketing bullshit, etc., your $100 headset is probably closer to the equivalent of a $50 headphone, and I have never seen a headphone that retails at that price that I would call durable. As such, Sony and others can get away with turning you into a repeat buyer of their disposable headsets. You're really going to be better off getting good headphones and adding a mic.

The only headset that I've seen recommended by enthusiasts on /r/headphones is the Kingston HyperX Cloud series, mostly because it's just the Takstar Pro 80 with a microphone attached. I have never used either the HyperX Cloud or the Takstar, so I cannot vouch for its durability. Another cheap alternative is to buy a decent headphone that has a detachable cable that connects via 3.5mm TRS jack and get a $30 [V-Moda BoomPro] (http://www.amazon.com/V-MODA-BoomPro-Gaming-Headset-Headphone/dp/B00BJ17WKK) mic. I use the BoomPro with a pair of [Philips SHP9500] (http://www.amazon.com/Philips-SHP9500-Precision-Over-ear-Headphones/dp/B00ENMK1DW) headphones, another entry level headphone that occasionally goes on sale for $50-60 on NewEgg, I believe normal price is around $80-90. It doesn't fold for travel, so it never leaves my desk area, but it feels durable enough for the price; I don't see it falling apart under light use anytime soon. It's very light and has a \balanced sound that's great for music too, but it is open back, so sound will leak both ways - you'll hear everything around you and everyone around you will hear your headphones. Either the HyperX Cloud or SHP9500/BoomPro will set you back about $90.

If I'm at home it has very low latency which is good, even the aiming is somewhat accurate (better then I'd expect). Because my hands are leaner than I'd say yours (according to your disclaimer ) its not too bad, no where near as good as the ds4, also the controls are mapped as l2 and r2 are the left and right of the back touchpad and l3 and r3 are the two bottoms corners so it makes it somewhat easier to handle then say having all the buttons mapped to the back (example being battlefield 4) all in all its great for bed side gaming I'd say, also there are grips like these that make it easier to hold

Perfect headset at an affordable price, the Turtle Beach PX21. This headset offers 4 corners enchanced audio, with a boom stick mic I love since it is super flexible. It operates on the PS3, Xbox, and PC.

I just got a 4 TB external drive. Best thing ever! I now have like 50 games installed now. Look on Amazon, tons of great options.

You definitely need these I’ve had them for a year and there amazing. If you’re a extreme gamer like myself this will keep the controllers charged all day

It's an update, this is the converter I went with and it's working great! Best 30 bucks I spent for my Astro A50s to work with my PS4 slim!

I was so mad I couldn't think properly, thank you for saving some hairs on my head! I bought the https://www.amazon.com/dp/B017B6WFP8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_ZPQrybA57WAHE because it's Dolby Digital supported so hopefully the shit works!

May the ball licking gods guide you in your future endeavors. Bless you

u/_Kryptik_ · 1 pointr/playstation

Sounds like it's this one. Sorry, can't really say I know what the problem is, as I have no experience with it, but it's most likely losing sync for some reason or another.

If you haven't tried yet, you could attempt to reset the headset? Best of luck to you!

u/LukeLC · 2 pointsr/playstation

Playstation Camera, two Move controllers, and games that support them. The last bit is where you'll run into issues, as really there aren't any. PSVR will use them, Dreams will use them, and LittleBigPlanet 3 has limited uses for them, but other than that I honestly can't think of anything.

EDIT: And in case you're wondering, you do NOT need this.

u/Manny349 · 1 pointr/playstation

The game downloads are pretty large and take up a lot of space. I suggest getting a 1TB PS4 external hard drive. They’re like ~ $50 on Amazon.
Seagate 2TB Game Drive for... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071LPMSN1?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

u/Terajima92Ryoko · 1 pointr/playstation

Just a suggestion: I ordered an external hard drive and that works for me. You just plug it in to the ps4 via USB. It’s weird cuz technically you could unplug it mid-game and you’d lose everything. But it’s also portable. So bring it to a friends and play the games on their ps4. I didn’t think it was worth buying another ps4 or trading in so I went the slightly cheeper, and easier route. The link for it is here on Amazon. 2 TB. Around $80

You're looking for this, right? (use the U.S site if you're in the states)

https://www.amazon.ca/gp/aw/d/B004SP0WAQ/ref=mp_s_a_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1527225161&sr=8-5&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=headset+adapter&dpPl=1&dpID=41ifj0%2BHelL&ref=plSrch

Keep in mind that the controller has limited audio output so if you want the best sound quality, you may want to invest in an external DAC/amplifier setup.

u/survyguy79 · 1 pointr/playstation

I reccomend getting this http://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-Upgrade-Headset-Compatibility-TBS-0115-01-4/dp/B00JC5Y9LK

It upgrades the audio to digital and is your best bet if you don't want to buy a new headset.

u/Laragon · 1 pointr/playstation

I bought a 2tb Western Digital My Passport from Walmart for $69. I have all my games installed to it other than Horizon (it has something like 1.6 tb of content installed on it) and everything runs fine. https://www.amazon.com/Black-Passport-Portable-External-Drive/dp/B01LQQHF2W

u/kezzic · 2 pointsr/playstation

Yeah, I would much prefer to buy the Silver Wired Headset, and use it's amp, as opposed to the $130 Astro Mixamp.

Also, I found a Digital-to-Analog Converter from Turtle Beach's Upgrade Kit (Amazon) and also an Ear Force processor/converter (Amazon)

Would these also work? They are a lot cheaper. If not I might just buy the Silver Wired Headset and use it's adapter.

(edited: for redundancies.)

u/Timid-Spook · 1 pointr/playstation

No problem. Well, I'm using a 2 terabyte Western Digital Elements Portable HDD. The thing fits in the palm of your hand, is USB 3.0, and works well with the PS4.

u/Idrivethekrystalship · 3 pointsr/playstation

If you're looking for one just to play a couple games and blu-rays, I'd get the super slim.

u/[deleted] · 1 pointr/playstation

Yeah, it's very sad. By introducing the touchpad with the DS4, Sony decreased any potential competition on their gamepads by an astronomical amount (as it stands, only Hori offers any decent PS4 gamepad at all). If they continue with the touchpad requirement for the next Dualshock iteration, I definitely won't bother getting a PS5 at launch.

u/SHANE523 · 1 pointr/playstation

That should be fine. I think I remember them stating that you should use a "powered" external meaning a power adapter but I have never used one with the adapter and have not had an issue.

Also remember that you cannot use a USB hub.
I too have a 2TB internal and have a 4TB external that I will use in the future.

It’s controller from PS move generation called “PlayStation Move Navigation Controller”. I bet you can buy them everywhere. Here’s amazon link: https://www.amazon.com/Playstation-Move-Navigation-Controller-3/dp/B002I0K6X6

Turtle Beach PX21 for stereo sound, Turtle Beach DPX21 for Dolby Digital 7.1 surround headphones. Both wired, and some of the highest quality gaming headsets I've ever used.

u/Tides_Typhoon · 3 pointsr/playstation

I haven't had a playstation since the ps2, but I'm about to buy a pro, is it normally 100 above msrp?

u/failstrongly · 2 pointsr/playstation

This is the only thing I've seen around.

u/Rythmic_Assassin · 1 pointr/playstation

Depends. You probably shouldn't get a really cheap sketchy one but you don't have to over priced either. This is the one I got.

u/heartbraden · 0 pointsr/playstation

If you pay the full price you are crazy.

Buy it anywhere else, even the official MS store on Amazon... $46 a month, 2 less than I said. Thanks for making me look it up and prove my point even further.

I've looked into using a similar setup on PS4. It is possible to get game audio through your headphones while using a mic plugged in though the controller. However the PS4 will try to play all incoming chat back through the microphone, thinking it's a headset. So you can talk to everyone else, but you can't hear them, which is a bit of a problem.

There are two relatively straight-forward ways to fix this, both involving using an adapter to 'trick' the PS4 into thinking your mic+headphones are one device. The first method uses a 3.5mm y-adapter which you then plug into the headphone jack on the DS4. The alternative method uses a usb to 3.5mm adapter, which you the plug into a USB port on the PS4. In either method you just plug in your headphones and mic into the adapter, and it should work as you would expect.

Both of these methods will let you hear both game and incoming chat through your headphones, while using a separate mic. Keep in mind however that you'll likely need an amplifier to take full advantage of your m50x's.

Quick disclaimer; I haven't actually used either of these methods, this is all just information I picked up while researching this a couple months ago, so I don't know how well they actually work when it comes to volume levels or whatever. If you want more info, here is a head-fi forum post on the subject.
