I know people like the XRGB but it's a bit pricey for me.

I use this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00988GMLG/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Works great for me. I just had to buy a SCART cable for my SNES. Also ended up working great for my old Japanese PS2 in allowing me to play rhythm games on an LCD without introducing unbelievable lag from upscaling.

I strongly encourage you replace the battery in the cartridge but you can also get this accessory that can save your progress. It only saves your progress for one game, though.

I had one of these Interact Pro Pad (it stopped working) and it was such a great controller. It's larger than the stock SNES controller, and the button response and D-pad feel great.

It's gimmick was that it had preprogrammed moves for the popular fighting games (so you could hit one special button and do a dragon punch).

If you can get one for $15-20 or cheaper, it's a great controller.

Messiah SNES Wireless Controllers are fantastic. They will run you $100ish on Ebay. It's a bit thicker than a normal SNES controller. It uses micro switches so it's a little softer, but a lot more durable. While that looks like an analog stick, it's really more of a hat over 4 switch d-pad. Overall it matches the size and shape near perfectly and it's hands down the best wireless snes controller solution.

RetroBit the Retro Duo guys make another wireless controller. It's got a weird shape, buttons in he wrong place, a crap d-pad, and it will miss button presses through crossed legs. It's such crap that even RPGs are a bitch to play.

Before you cheap out and buy the Retroport one or decided and go the emulator route, I will tell you that the Messiah controller is easily worth twice the going rate in terms of getting a quality classic SNES experience.

Yeah if it is convenient, it's fun either way.

You will need a 4.5mm Gamebit screwdriver to open a SuperNES One that has a long and skinny neck(actualname?) like this https://www.amazon.com/Security-Screwdriver-Nintendo-Consoles-ninthseason/dp/B01ECGHJX8/ref=sr_1_8?keywords=gamebit+4.5mm&qid=1555178666&s=gateway&sr=8-8

Alternatively.

You can mold one out of a pen.

Find a pen that is relatively hard plastic and skinny enough to fit into the holes on the back of the supernes.

Take the ink out and dispose of it so you have just the pen tube.

Find a lighter.

If you have some sort of handkerchief or glasses you can use it as a mask, else get ready to hold your breath.

Prepare to melt the end of the pentube by applying heat to it with the lighter, careful not to set it on fire.

and prepare to insert the melting end into the back of the Super NES over the screw.

Execute what you prepared for, you might feel a squish of the melted plastic on the screw, and wait a good minute and a half for the pen to dry and harden over the screw,

this may take a few tries, but if you are careful enough turn slowly to drive the screws out.

Hey, so I looked into it a bit more to try to remember how I had everything set up when I was using my monitor. All the digital video converters I am seeing online are more expensive than I remember them being.

Anyway, this is the one that I got. Of course vga only puts out the video, so you need something else to get your sound going. For the sound part, I used something like this. One side accepts the SNES red/white cables and the other I plugged my computer speakers into whenever I played my SNES.

You may be able to find video converters cheaper than the one I linked but I didn't look very much this time around to see. Let me know if you have any luck.

I don't mind the graphics, but yeah they are basically NES graphics. Still, DQ5 is one of my favorite games across all platforms. If the graphics bother you, pick up the DS version https://www.amazon.com/Dragon-Quest-Hand-Heavenly-Bride-Nintendo/dp/B001NJMMHG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1518639667&sr=8-1&keywords=dragon+quest+5

If you have a regular SNES (not the mini) I'd try to get an S-Video cable for the best raw quality and then use a converter. Converting composite video (RCA) into VGA won't look as good on a VGA monitor as S-Video or SCART.

Cable

Converter

Also you'll need separate speakers to run the composite sound into. You'll still use the Red and White RCA plugs, just not the yellow one.

Then the next cheapest adapter option that requires no modification at all is a Nakitek Game Saver + which will also allows you to save state your games. Alternative adapters would include the Innovation Super 8 (NES/Famicom adapter) and the Super UFO Pro 8 (an SD card based flash cartridge based on the old floppy disk copiers), but for the price that those two are going for these days, it would be much cheaper to get a SFC.

I'm leaning toward ordering one of these:

http://www.amazon.com/VHT-SP942-Vinyl-Black-Satin/dp/B000CPIN9S/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1412293344&sr=8-1&keywords=vinyl+dye

It looks like there aren't a huge number of color options when it comes to vinyl dyes. Let me know if anyone has input on color, I'll be sure to report back soon with lots of pictures.

You need something similar to this. There's many of them, so read the reviews. Report back with your findings! I need to purchase the opposite so I can play my pal snes here in ntsc land :)

they sell these on amazon, btw.

this model is the 2.4ghz wireless usb one, though. no bluetooth support, and only works with the controller port on the nes/snes classic.

there are bluetooth models - these new ones come with a bluetooth receiver that plugs into the snes.

An RF Switch connected to a Matching Transformer with the TV set tuned to channel 3? That is how we had to hook up consoles to our old Televisions in the 1980's.

Any straps for cable management work. There’s a lot sold for pc cable management on amazon. The ones I used came from all the cables for my modular power supply from EVGA.
You could realistically buy a Velcro strip and cut it down into pieces if you want.

u/mistertimely · 2 pointsr/snes

I'm the opposite. Use HDMI from Scart. I had this adapter for over a year before changing to a Framemeister. That first adapter worked fine, no noticeable input lag on my HDTV and a huge upgrade form composite. But, definitely no regrets on upgrading to the framemeister.

You should check out the My Life in Gaming series on RGB, starting with RGB 101. Here

Sorry, I might have said something wrong. I meant the AV Composite Cables.

This cable:

My SNES is SNS-001.
