Hopefully everyone sees this, but you can buy an under desk PC mount, the 3m one seems best in my opinion, that you strap your PC into basically, and it hangs under your desktop. So it's nowhere near the floor, and it's off your desk.

Also, being "suspended" underneath the desk, it can get air completely around it, top bottom sides front and back, providing maximum airflow.

Edit: went ahead and got the link for this thing off of Amazon, it costs about 76 bucks, but well worth it when it does the aforementioned while also holding your pride and joy safely...

I completely agree with these methods. There is another thread in this subreddit that suggest those under-desk CPU holders. This was the suggested link.

So I had been using the same smallish desk for over a decade. It was some cheap, glass top special from Walmart or some such. Nothing too fancy, but it worked fine for the most part.

I recently started working from home full time so decided if I am going to be at the thing for 10+ hours a day now, I am upgrading, and bigly.

First I decided I wanted a sit/stand desk so that I can adjust the height for how I feel like sitting at any time. I couldn't cross my legs with old desk and it pissed me off, so I really wanted to fix that. After looking around at all sorts of different ones, none of them seemed to fit my needs. I wanted an extra large desktop that would fit 3 monitors: 1 Asus pg34 and 2 Auria 27" (pic only has 1 setup for now, need to add other one back into the mix later), 2 computers: my main desktop comp and new work laptop setup topped off by some way too large to be desktop but I don't care speakers/stereo stuff. I needed big, sturdy and able to lift a lot of lb's. Most of the T legged desk just didn't seem sturdy enough, the ones I was able to try out at Ikea and such just well, sucked. way too wobbly, didn't have the lifting power i wanted, just not a good fit.

Then I a 4 leg electric setup as a DIY kit, and it looked to be exactly what I was looking for. This has the stability of 4 legs & can lift 710lbs. Nearly twice as much as any other setup I could find, other than their 3 leg setup... http://www.thehumansolution.com/uplift-900-four-leg-adjustable-height-standing-desk-base.html

I had an old solid core door from one of my spare rooms closet, so I slapped that sucker on top of the 4 legs and had an 80"x30" desktop that barely wobbles despite all the stuff I have on it, no matter the height its at, no matter how aggressively my fat 20lb cat jumps onto it or jumps down from on top of the speakers. This thing feels like it is made of concrete or something.

I was originally planning on upgrading from the temporary door to a nice solid, living edge slab of something fancy, but then I looked at the prices for those... thousands of dollars for a a piece of wood? no thanks! Then it dawned on me, vinyl wrap. Like for cars. So I browsed Amazon for something interesting and found this Purple to Blue Chameleon Carbon Fiber pattern wrap and figured I would give it a try, only $75 for 10x5 foot roll so not a huge investment to try out. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00MJ85MM2/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

First, this is the old door on top of the legs, it was ugly, there was old paint that was really rough, it rubbed my arms wrong (turns out doors have sharp 90 degree edges...) and was just not working. this is that old door. original from my house built in 1954, this door has prob seen some shit over the years and it showed!

So after sanding down the old door a bit to smooth out the paint and round the edges off (in my living room, with a palm sander, do not recommend as it made quite a huge mess despite trying to vacuum the dust as I sanded) and wiping it down several times to clear the dust/mess, after a couple hours I finally got the wrap on and trimmed up. There are a few small areas where I screwed something up or just had some bad spots in the vinyl, but overall i am quite happy with the results. So much nicer now than it was with the old painted door. And this wrap looks so cool in person! The color shifts from purple through greens and blues depending on the angle and lighting. So worth the mess!

just need to do a little more cable management now, and get new computer case that fits the underdesk holder I got. This guy, it holds larger cases (just not quite corsair 750d large....) and is on a rail so I can move the case around a bit https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0010SY3L8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Thats it, I love my new desk and love looking at the other setups on here so thought I would share my little project too.

Almost there

This one seems a better fit.

I simply Googled under desk computer mount.

I always edit for grammar and clarity.

For the last 2 1/2 years my photography work space has been a spare bedroom that did double duty as sort of miscellaneous storage dumping ground for the rest of my family. I've been working on cleaning it up/out and getting everything organized for the last few weeks and it's starting to approach a respectably usable work space.

A big change was getting an under-desk mount for my desktop tower and an arm for my monitor, which freed up a ton of desk space for me. Next steps are putting a bunch of these up for all my camera bags, and devising some sort of system for where to hang my test prints.

They exist, like this one

Looks like OP might be using this one

This one looks way more stable/safe/secure though.

duh fuck is a "CPU holder"? What monster puts their baby in a clamp???

u/Blitzsturm · 1 pointr/battlestations

Nice. I have the same lamp. I find I kind of like having it point straight up so it defuses the light off my white ceiling. I prefer somewhat low/muted light at my desk to keep the screens the focal point. I also love VESA mounts for maximizing desk space. I'd also endorse one of these to hold your case off the ground but under your desk.

Is this the holder you were looking at? I have a SmartDesk 1 and I drilled this into the back-right side and it works perfectly. If you PM me, I will send you a picture of it when I get home from work.

Were the holders under-desk ones like this? They're actually good if you need the computer elevated and not touching the ground. My school got them earlier this year since I live an area that floods easy. Not to mention that the commons area of my school has an open roof, so rain water could easily flood that wing of the school if it rained hard enough.

3M Adjustable Under-Desk CPU Mount, 360 Degree Swivel (CS200MB)

Very sturdy, although obviously requires a solid desk you can drill holes into. I definitely would recommend.

The desk is a GALANT from Ikea.

Greetings, posted this at the tail end of last week so reposting to see if I can get some thoughts.

I'm getting ready to purchase this set of convertible legs for a sit/stand desk and I've been debating options for the top. The desk build I'm working on is supposed to be 84"w x 32"d so not a small desk at all as it's for work. The desk itself will have a lot of weight on it including two computers mounted underneath and a slide out piano keyboard weighing in at about 70 pounds on the front.

The original idea was to buy the legs and have a local builder put a hardwood top as well similar to this with x4 2U rack spaces across the top and the slide out try on the bottom using some industrial guide rails. What I found was that to get a hard wood top built like that locally was going to be extremely expensive so I started looking into other options. I found it might also be an option to have the company I'm buying the legs from put on their own top and build the rack spaces myself to mount on out of plywood or similar material to the top but I'm unsure of the best option to go with because of the strength I'd need on the desk for all the equipment, slide tray and computers.

1" Plywood was the first option we had but being the way it's designed, I'm unsure it would be able to take the weight properly of the computers and tray. I'd also be able to get the full 84x32 size I want to get.

The company who sells the legs also has two other options I've been considering: a 1" Bamboo top and a 13/16" Rubberwood. I've tried looking information up on both of these options but everything seems very vague as to the durability, strength and being able to work with them (is it like MDF which doesn't work well with finer screws?) These tops also only come in 80x30 which I can probably just make work with the rack spaces if my math is correct so it's a workable option but being I'm not familiar with these two types of woods, thought it best to reach out.

I'm also open to other options if anyone has something to suggest. I've just been trying to keep the entire build at around $1800 including the other pieces I need to get like monitor arms, computer keyboard tray, etc. A lot of the local builders were quoting me upwards of $2500 just for the woodwork.

Thanks in advance.

With the other accessories mounted underneath it does reduce your options for where it can go. My cases/gear is fairly heavy though and it handles it pretty well. It wouldn't work with a full tower case for sure and some wider cases might cause issues but I am actually surprised how well it does hold my computer.

The desk itself I believe is 0.75" thick with their special evoguard material.

While not exactly the same the CPU mount I purchased through EvoDesk is almost exactly the same as https://www.amazon.com/3M-Adjustable-Under-desk-Holder-Construction/dp/B0010SY3L8 which they charge $129 for. If I had to do it all over again, the only accessory I would have purchased directly from them would be the cable tray, keyboard tray and the programmable controller. Someone else in this thread did list a desk that looks to be EXACTLY the same with the addition of a 3rd leg that I would consider and it was slightly less money for the base desk.

u/olbaze · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

Ideally, on top of the desk. Alternatively, you could buy a mount that goes under the desk, something like this. Or you could just leave it on the floor.

The goal should be that none of the sides of your PC are blocked. Also, a separated section like that would make it a nightmare to remove the PC for cleaning or installing new components. And in most cases, you would have to do that to clean a bottom dust filter.

Most cases already have short legs that they sit on, so all you'd need to do is get a nice looking plank of wood that's 8" or so wide (depending on your case) and put it on top of that.

They also make things you can screw into the bottom of wooden desks, usually called a "computer holder" or "CPU holder": https://www.amazon.com/3M-Adjustable-Under-desk-Holder-Construction/dp/B0010SY3L8

It doesn’t help that searching for “cpu holder” on amazon returns [this](

u/EducatedRetard · 1 pointr/mildlyinteresting

Yeah I agree. It's just a silly way to mount a machine that adds unnecessary risk to the machine and animals in the room.

I would have suggested something like this:

http://www.amazon.com/3M-Adjustable-Under-desk-Holder-Construction/dp/B0010SY3L8/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1406900258&sr=8-2&keywords=pc+mount

u/Dizman7 · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

The "PC Holder" is what is bolted to the desk, the tower just sits (more like clamped) into it. I went with this to have it up off the floor and it's a lot easier to plug/unplug something into it as the holder slides in and out as well as rotates in place.

u/nightdynamo · -1 pointsr/DIY

I really like it!

Two tips: Maybe get a underdesk computer holder to clear up your desk space and buy some cable races.
