EDIT: I have a Note 3, a pretty bulky phonr and it still has room for a bigger phone.
I bought this one a while back, and I like it a lot. Rock solid, stays where you put it, and I've never had any fear (after the first few rides) of my phone popping out. Pretty cheap at $20, too.
Like others have said. RAM mount is the best but if you wanna go cheap I've been using one of these for years with an iPhone 7 Plus....

This is the one I have for my Metropolitan. I clamped it to the handlebar next to the turn signal switch and it works pretty nicely. I don't know how well the little strappy will hold up over time but they sell replacements. I don't use mine w/headphones though.
I recently bought this mount just to have access to my phone for music & podcasts, not so much to record (even though I have used it once to record).
I didn't have a lot of space in the gaps of my handlebars on my Ninja 250, so far it seems just fine for communing around town.
