I have a used PC. AMD Phenom II x4 945. Upgraded CPU Cooler. MSI Motherboard. 500GIG HDD. ATI 5450 or NVIDIA 8400 video card (you pick). 4GB DDR2 RAM. DVDRW. Windows Vista COA OEM Sticker. I can also provide a Windows XP COA OEM Sticker.

The PC will come with a blank HDD.

This CPU will work with a newer motherboard that uses DDR3 RAM.

Asking $200

The CPU itself is worth probably $75+ the RAM is worth $35 and the 500GB HDD is worth about $20 - $30.

Here's a very feature rich motherboard that supports unlocking for around $55 US. Another option would be a different processor. This Athlon II B24 is the equivalent of what your processor would be unlocked. This Phenom II X4 945 might be the best for the money.

So I can throw one of these in there:

I'd be VERY happy if I could hit 3.5 Ghz with four cores and just stop right there. That versus my dual-core, 2.3 Ghz power right now would be out of the ballpark.

Ok, I am going to throw some technical jargon at you. I found your motherboard specs here. The specs show it will support 95W TDP processors, Phenom II Quad core being the best of them. The fastest I could find is $60 used and it runs at the same clock speed as your cpu, it just has more cores. It may not even work depending on your motherboard BIOS.

To put it simply I would not upgrade that cpu. I think you should start saving/budgeting for a new build if you want more performance.

Trying to upgrade my PC and figured now is the time with the holiday might snag some deals.

Running an old HP Pavilion p6703w with a 6770 and 500w ocz power supply already upgraded. Was looking at picking up this 8gb ram stick to upgrade from the 5gb , and was suggested to pick up either a GTX 770 or 7970 but having trouble finding either of those around the $100 I was told would be a good pick up for it. Any other card suggestions? Also was looking at this processor but not sure if thats an upgrade or not from the AMD Athlon II X4 640 thats in the pc already.

edit: So i went with AMD Phenom II X6 1065T and a Corsair Vengeance 8GB (1x8GB) but still lookign for a better Graphics card
