I have it and it's awesome.

There also the Acer Predator 34", which is ultrawide (21:9) with 100Hz and 3440x1440 resolution.

>But there's no point getting gsync anymore now that Nvidia supports freesync

that's not entirely accurate. The vast majority of freesync displays only sync in a relatively narrow band of refresh rates--some as narrow as 48hz-75hz. Gsync has no such limitation. Further, AMD is already moving on to a "freesync 2" standard that requires similar levels of certification to what NVIDIA requires for gsync, with commensurate costs.

edit:
here are some examples:
https://smile.amazon.com/27-inch-FreeSync-Response-DisplayPort-MG279Q/dp/B00ZOO348C
144hz ips freesync display, quite high end, but the freesync functionality only works at ranges of 35hz to 90hz. I would be a bit salty if I bought a monitor with frame synching technology that didn't actually work near the monitor's maximum refresh rate, personally.

Compare with a gsync competitor:
https://smile.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-XB271HU-2560x1440-Display/dp/B0173PEX20
Gsync will work on that monitor from arbitrarily low values up to 165hz (you can overclock the monitor to 165hz--I know because I have one and do so).

This is also available at the same price and condition through Amazon. I assume ASUS uses a licensed parter company to refurbish their products because this is sold by "Refurb4Less" and has the same price, quantity, condition, and ASUS refurb guarantee.

I purchased through Amazon because I have better luck with them -when things go wrong- because of their marketplace guarantee (and I had a gift card and I get a discount from using my Amazon card)

PLEASE DO NOT BUY THAT MONITOR WITH THAT PREBUILT.

That monitor is G-Sync, and much more expensive than a comparable one without G-Sync. AMD cards do not support G-Sync.

AMD cards support something very similar called freesync, which is basically the same thing but it's cheaper for a monitor maker to put into their monitors.
If you are wanting a similar experience, look at a monitor similar to this one: https://www.amazon.com/GN27D-Computer-Monitor-Freesync-Optimized/dp/B078P57ZWL/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1522499064&sr=8-8&keywords=1440p+144hz+freesync

If you want something with much much better colours and such, look at this: https://www.amazon.com/MG279Q-27-Inch-FreeSync-Gaming-Monitor/dp/B00ZOO348C/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1522499049&sr=8-1&keywords=mg279q&dpID=51V6VuWx%252B-L&preST=_SX300_QL70_&dpSrc=srch

If your budget isn't super tight, I'd go for the second monitor that I linked (if you were wanting to go for your original prebuilt).

The RX 580 is slightly faster than the 1060 in the HP system that others are recommending, however not a huge difference between them. The CyberPowerPC one is likely to be a bit better cooled (and looks better IMO) and you do have the advantage of probably better support with a Tier 1 manufacturer like HP. The HP also has an NVidia card, so you'd want a G-Sync monitor like the dell you linked if you wanted to go for that one.

NVidia's probably going to release their graphics cards in a few months, but playing the waiting game is painful, so I completely understand either way. Something else to consider is that NVidia normally releases their 80 and 70 before anything else, and the 60 and 50 come a couple months later, so it might be an even longer wait for the range you're looking at.

MG279Q 2560x1440 30-90Hz @ ~700CAD?

Around half the price, 10Hz difference in ASync ranges. Justified price difference.

u/BitCloud25 · 3 pointsr/bapcsalescanada

Probably this is the cheapest that checks all the boxes. I doubt that it'll be much cheaper than $600, cause there's been a price drop for high end monitors this year already.

u/McMurry · 3 pointsr/Monitors

any particular resolution or amd / nvidia preference?

As a starting point the 2 best 27 inch 1440p high refresh panels are:

For AMD: the Asus MG279q

For Nvidia: the Viewsonic XG2703-GS

Though both Asus and ACE make very similar gsync screens that different folks prefer.

u/XOIIO · 3 pointsr/bapcsalescanada

There's also this asus which I would go for since I've had good experience with my laptop warranty and gsync upgrade but it's $636, way too much for me.

I mean sure maybe "just $136 more"but I could say that and slowly ramp up to something costing over a grand.

The ASUS MG279Q is at it's lowest on Amazon. Not really sure if that's a good price. Fantastic monitor for viewing/gaming. Regardless of what you get, I recommend getting a g-sync monitor for your 1080 ti. "You know it works when you don't notice anything." Such a counter-intuitive selling point, but it's something you should see for yourself at those Best Buy/Canada Computers demo computers.

144hz and the resolution of 2560x1440 on amazon....

On that note, games will never fully stress a cpu, because the game can never fully utilize said cpu, so all the previous "omg ryzen sucks for future of gaming because single core blah blah blah and then intel is better at 720p which puts more load on the cpu blah blah blah" no, it does put more "load" on the cpu. Sure, the % goes higher, but that's because its pounding out more frames, NOT because its doing more work. There is a difference but most are too ignorant to listen to reason.

I'm going to list a few. All of these meet or beat your requirements, I believe (sorted lowest -> highest price):

It's a solid $200+ premium for comparable monitors. That's not nothing. That coupled with G-sync monitors having crappier input options (just one displayport and one HDMI in almost all cases), and the value proposition just isn't there if we weren't forced to go gsync.

From my research looks like the best panel for gaming IPS till now for sRGB content is XB271HU/MG279Q. and illonux have problem with sRGB content and not as fast as XB271HU/MG279Q with its fake 1ms.
Btw looking at price history looks like it goes on sale often

So wait for the sale and grab one and end your misery :) I didn't know Asus has freesync version as I was only looking for acer XF270HU which is the same panel but problem is Amazon US isn't selling it and only 3rd part selling it but its cheaper than MG279Q even though its the same panel I think. So if it gets back on stock on amazon site I will get the XF270HU instead of MG279Q as its the same i think.

I' personally go with a 1440p 144Hz monitor with those specs. I'm not an expert but I'd go with something like this: Asus MG279Q

u/TB12TheGOAT · 1 pointr/buildapc

Looks like this monitor is my only option and sadly my GPU doesn't have a display port only DVI and HDMI and the monitor only has HDMI and Display Port and from what I understand my only connection would be HDMI and I know HDMI really struggles to get anything above 1080p 60Hz correct me if I am wrong. So I'd really be hurting in performance until I upgraded my card.

People do not generally write good reviews though. I'm going with the BenQ XL2730Z, hoping it comes down in price at least a little before the new year.

u/SickCanadian · 1 pointr/buildapc

Thanks for the links!

I've looked at that BenQ GW2765HT before and it looked good, my only real concern was the high response times. It's fluctuates between 6ms and 19ms G2G depending on the AMA overdrive setting, with an average of 10ms. That seems a bit high for a gaming monitor? Though, looking at some Dell monitors they also get between 8-10ms G2G on average. Maybe that's normal/acceptable for IPS? I don't know enough about this stuff to make an informed decision. My Asus PB238Q is rated at 6ms G2G, but I bet it probably averages closer to 8-9ms under real tests.

The display lag and/or signal processing time on the GW2765HT is also pretty high at 24ms average. Not the best for gaming. It's a nice monitor and only $375 CAD, but I just don't know if it's fast enough for the gaming I do? What are your thoughts?

I might just want a 144hz monitor like you suggested? I've looked at the Acer XB270H before but it's pretty pricey, $750 CAD for a TN panel that is only 1080p. Not really a big fan of 27" 1080p, I've also considered the ASUS MG279Q which looks much nicer on paper, 27", 1440p, 144hz, IPS, and FreeSync for $780 CAD.

u/Thefishy · 1 pointr/buildapc

Acer XG270HU

ASUS MG279Q

Are two decent ones I found after doing a quick search. Both of them are 144hz, both are 1440p and both have freesync and both are in the $500 price range.

u/SD456 · 1 pointr/consoles

You should get a good 24 or 27 inch monitor, IPS panels are really good and yes 1080p is enough. I have used an Asus MG279Q for my PS4, but now I'm using a TV. The image quality was awesome, but for the sound I had to use a HDMI audio extractor, it isn't hard to setup, basically you just have to hook everything up.

u/dasiffy · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

depending on whether you want g-sync (G) or freesync (F)
have a look at the Asus ROG Swift PG279Q (G) or MG279Q (F), the Acer Predator XB271HU (G) or XG270HU (F)

If you're intrested in a 21:9 aspect ratio gaming monitor, there's the new acer x34. It's a 34" IPS 3440×1440 available with gsync(~100hz) and freesync(~75hz) models. Asus have their version coming out in march i believe, but they both use the same LG panel. oh yeah... ridiculously expensive($1200USD / $1700CAD)

I don't think benq have a gaming IPS monitor out yet, but they should get something soon.

All these options are top of the line by the way. So there could be cheaper options, and there'll definitely be cheaper options down the road.

Oh yeah and IPS have something called the "IPS lottery" - trend of people RMA-ing monitors over and over until they get a good one. These monitors seem to have common problems of "back light bleed"(backlight leaking light in the corners) and "ips glow" (a colour hue shift during dark or black sceens). Infact the x34 has been so bad that amazon stopped selling them. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B016GNX4SE Same with the ASUS MG279Q... http://www.amazon.com/MG279Q-2560x1440-DisplayPort-Ergonomic-FreeSync/dp/B00ZOO348C/

If you're set on that graphics card then you're better off with a freesync compatible monitor the ASUS-MG279Q is probably the best one you can go for at the moment.

u/Mutt_Zeppi_ · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

Well what's your price range? If you're looking into professional 4k, 700$ is a good starting price point.

If your budget is lower than this I'd suggest sticking to 1440p. There are plenty of really nice 1440p IPS monitors in the 400-600$ range.

You need to consider what it is you REALLY need and make your decision based off of that. If all you do is game, I'd strongly suggest just getting a good TN panel instead of a bad IPS panel.

u/iHikeALot · 1 pointr/buildapc

Honestly, the monitor question is incredibly complex. Because there's a bunch of factors to consider and no such thing as a perfect monitor. You want 1440p and 144Hz for gaming, and obviously G-Sync would be awesome as well, but most monitors with those 3 features have an TN panel, which I simply cannot stand. So if it was my money, I would ditch G-Sync in favour of an IPS panel and that means going for the ASUS MG279Q. It's not the newest monitor on the block, but it's fundamentally terrific and a good value. You can't find it everywhere anymore, but it's still available on Amazon (if you're in the US):https://www.amazon.com/27-inch-FreeSync-Response-DisplayPort-MG279Q/dp/B00ZOO348C

This fits all your needs:
https://www.amazon.com/MG279Q-27-Inch-FreeSync-Gaming-Monitor/dp/B00ZOO348C

Lowest it's been is $475 on amazon. You get what you pay for... and most people don't understand that you're using you EYES 100% of the time when you're using your PC. Might as well invest a little more in.

This is the TN version (worst colors for art/videos/pictures/etc.)
https://www.amazon.com/Acer-XG270HU-omidpx-FREESYNC-Widescreen/dp/B00VRCLHYS/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1522783659&sr=1-1&keywords=XG270HU

If you really want to budget, lower the 27" to 25".

The Asus MG279Q is pricey but a great ips monitor that has it all.

The Dell S2719DGF is one of the better TN panels with 1ms response.

I have a Rocksoul RSGM-27M3 A, unfortunately I believe they're sold out on amazon all they have is the Rocksoul RSGM-27M3 C, the difference is one has a nice mount and the other is butt ugly. I got mine for $270 and its fantastic. If you see the A model come back with the black mount you should nab it up.

I have a pair of MG279Qs I'd be willing to let go for $900 shipped. Won the blacklight bleed lottery, but there is one stuck (grey) pixel on one monitor, near the corner. Most of the time I forget it's there

The Pair runs around $1000 on sale, $1150 stock price. Willing to let it go (shipped) for $410 (Newegg RMA price) and $490 (perfect monitor price). $900 for the set, I'll eat the shipping costs. The catch is that I have to sell/ship them together.

Let me know if you're interested or need more information.

Hey, I have the exact same card and also planning to upgrade from my regular old 1080p 60hz BenQs. I have done quite a lot of research and have come to the conclusion, that starting from around 350$ adaptive sync is essentially a must-have if planning on any kind of gaming and futureproofing. As far as I know there are no additions needed to use FreeSync other than plug it in and turn it on from the monitor settings besides connecting your monitor via DisplayPort (or DVI aswell?).

In my opinion the best price to performance value monitor is the last one you mentioned, after weeks of searching I have not found anything close to these specs and that pricepoint. The only caveat with that particular model seems to be that the stand does not have a height adjustment or the VESA mounting points. Also the panel is a TN, rather than an IPS, so if the latter is preferred, add another ~100$ to the monitor's price and get either this:
https://www.amazon.com/Acer-XF270HU-27-inch-Widescreen-Monitor/dp/B0173PEX34/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1468906554&sr=8-1&keywords=xf270hu

or this:

https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-MG279Q-Screen-LED-lit-Monitor/dp/B00ZOO348C/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1468906650&sr=8-1&keywords=MG279Q

One other possibility for TN screens is the BenQ XL2730Z, which is ~80$ more, but has a sturdy stand, height adjustment and VESA mounting points:

https://www.amazon.com/BenQ-XL2730Z-Monitor-Resolution-FreeSync/dp/B00TUK9D9K/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1468907000&sr=8-1&keywords=xl2730z

If you're adamant about the 300$ range, you will probably have to choose 2 of 3 from FreeSync/144Hz/1440p. I have seen people recommending this:

https://www.amazon.com/ViewSonic-XG2401-DisplayPort-FreeSync-Technology/dp/B01A0ZRR50/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1468907327&sr=8-1&keywords=XG2401

or the LG you mentioned:

https://www.amazon.com/LG-29UM68-P-29-Inch-21-UltraWide/dp/B01B9IDLAW/ref=sr_1_2?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1468881176&sr=1-2&keywords=ultrawide+lg+29

Also when updating I am planning on still using my 24" 1080p one and possibly my 22" beside it aswell. The upgrade to 1440p should be quite noticeable aswell, particularly if going for a 144hz FreeSync model. The PPI will stay roughly the same, but there is more screen real estate.

If anyone has any information about any upcoming 1440p 144Hz FreeSync monitors or if I missed a particularly good one, then let me know aswell, thanks.

I would keep the two monitors you have now rather than just getting one super nice one. Or, you could sell one and replace it with a super nice monitor and keep the other AOC 1080p. Does your rig have 4k/1440p capabilities? The ASUS MG MG279Q is nice and about $500. You can find it here https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-MG279Q-Screen-LED-lit-Monitor/dp/B00ZOO348C?ie=UTF8&*Version*=1&*entries*=0 and I would get the 1ms version.

u/TheWombatFromHell · 1 pointr/buildapcsales

What about this one? Or this one?

u/istguy · 1 pointr/buildapc

Thinking about buying an Asus mg279q or an Acer xf270hu for a new rig that will probably have an RX 480.

They're (about) the same price. Leaning towards the Asus because it has a little better aesthetic to it, and it seems a better reputation. But I'm a concerned that its freesync range is limited to 30-90hz. I know an RX 480 probably won't get 90+ on AAA titles, but I'd presumably keep this monitor around for awhile, and use it with older titles on which a 480 could get 90+. Is freesync less beneficial above 90 fps?

My concerns with the Acer (besides aesthitics) is that I can't find any info on whether it's VESA compatible, and the fact that it only has 1 display port input (I'll probably hook up a laptop and gaming desktop).

That monitor is 602 dollars right now? https://www.amazon.com/MG279Q-27-Inch-FreeSync-Gaming-Monitor/dp/B00ZOO348C

or is that not it?

I’m the monitor guru. I’ve spent more hours than I’d like to admit researching monitors...

If you are firm on a $500 budget, buy this:
ASUS 27-inch 2k 144Hz WQHD FreeSync Gaming Monitor IPS, 4ms Response Time, HDMI, DisplayPort, USB 3.0, 2560 x 1440 Display with Pivot, Tilt, and Swivel, ASUS EyeCare (MG279Q) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00ZOO348C/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_X0SYBb8PWGYFX

Doesn’t have gsync btw, but that’s fine. You’re still getting an IPs 1440p 144hz display. Just use vsync.

Option B: Purchase a Dell S2716DG. They go on sale every week or two for under $500 and if you wait long enough, under $400.

Note it’s a TN (a really good looking TN), but for its sale price of $379 at Best Buy, it has 1440p, 144hz, gsync, and great build quality with a really great warranty. Look up reviews. I recommend buy directly from either
A) Best Buy, B) Dell.com
The reason being, it gets you the most recent revision, which fixes the past issues that have affected these monitors. They have been out two years, and they’ve worked out all the quirks.

Those are the only two monitors I would consider given your budget. Unless you’re willing to do 60hz, then let me know.
