There are a few possibilities.

  1. Your microphone is faulty and should be replaced
  2. The microphone volume in your operating system is low
  3. Your computer's hardware or software is faulty.
  4. The low volume is an inherent problem in your microphone. Given that it costs 13USD on amazon, I surmise this could be a real possibility. Look for bad reviews on SF-920.

If you will speak into your microphone and plan to use it for a long time, I recommend that you buy a pop filter, too.

If you are willing to spend more money, there are USB desktop microphones for which customized pop filters are available.

  5. Blue microphone sells blue yeti(116~130USD) and a pop filter whose design is customized for blue yeti(50USD).
  6. Cyber Acoustics sells CVL-2008(100USD) which contains a removable pop filter.

blue yeti and its metal pop filter are pretty durable, but they are more expensive than CVL-2008 which comes with a less durable customized nylon pop filter that is not sold separately from CVL-2008. However, if you didn't abuse a pop filter and washed it from time to time, even a nylon pop filter could last a decade or two.

Well I personally use Adobe Premiere on this but i can be quite costly (I got it off my university so it wasn't much) as for microphone, I am using a Blue Yeti with a Blue's Pop shield.

What kind of voiceover are you doing (radio, telephony, film)? For that price point, and since you seem to be just starting out, I'd also second a USB mic option. For quick voiceovers at home, I usually use my Blue Yeti. It is a nice quiet mic that comes with a desktop stand. Blue sells a [pop filter] (http://www.amazon.com/Blue-Microphones-The-Universal-Filter/dp/B0002H0H4A/ref=pd_sim_MI_2) for it separately, although you can do a lot to mitigate pops and such with good mic technique. The drawback to a USB mic is that you can't use it with an upgraded audio interface later on down the line. If you go with the MXL V67, you need to figure out how you want to get the audio into a computer. You'll need some kind of interface. They can be simple like a Blue Icicle, or complex with multiple inputs and outputs.

Have you considered where in your home you're going to record? This is far more important than equipment, IMO. A bad recording space will be captured by even the most expensive of microphones.

I use a Yeti and I got the RODE PSA1 Swivel Mount Studio Microphone Boom Arm and attached it to my desk. As for a pop filter, I got Blue Microphones The Pop Universal Pop Filter

Based in the UK?

There's the Blue Popfilter

Nady.

Windtech

They are kind of expensive though, I wonder if you could get an open mesh pop filter and bend it yourself???

The setup I use (Player 1) is a Blue Yeti Microphone with the Blue branded pop filter and recorded using Audacity on my Windows laptop.
The other person (Player 2) uses a microphone that's he's had for recording music, I'll try and find out the brand, plugged into a mac so he records using Garage Band.
We just chuck the 2 MP3's together on the video editing software and get it synced up to the video. No audio trickery, not even amplifying beforehand. We change the levels here and there inside Final Cut but aside from that, nothing.

Hopefully that helps, like I said, when I find out the name of his microphone I'll edit it in. Oh and thank you for the feedback, whenever we ask for stuff people don't usually respond so it gives us something to work with.

This is actually the Blue Yeti Guard that you can purchase for it.. However- The clip that goes onto your Yeti is kinda cheap and doesn't really fit anywhere, so I drilled a hole into the stand of my Yeti and got it to fit nicely.

But Here is the Blue Yeti Pop Filter

And here is how mine is set up. Pop Filter

My pop filter is pretty much this, and yeah I have it in front of the mic.

Also my audio isn't really tiny but more Tinny like lacking a more dynamic range. (coming through a tin can) You did make me realize I could probably raise my gain a bit, and that normalize may be a better effect to use than compression to get it to a good final volume.

I'm lost.

> I've realized after some time that it's really impractical for me. It's so huge it's blocking part of my screen and keyboard

So it being on a desk stand doesn't work in your use case? No worries, it doesn't work for almost anyones.

> So I wanted to get a foam windscreen instead.

Why would a windscreen solve anything? Windscreens will only deaden sounds from the mic moving around or you blowing air into it. A windscreen won't help with the problem mentioned above at all.

However if you are actually in need of a windscreen, get a pop filter instead. They double as a windscreen and will also help improve resistance to sibilance and pops (S, T, B, P sounds etc). Here are a few examples: $7, $15, $45. The $15 looks really good, $7 one also looks fine.

If you issue is actually the size and position of the mic then you want a scissor/desk mount arm. Here are a few examples: $15, $20, $100. Go for the $20 arm if you are looking for something affordable but reasonable. The $100, Rode PSA-1, is a great arm I have been using it for the last 5 years and its a great investment.

Microphone + Pop Filter
On a 1050, my frames are around 60 to 100. I am happy with how it works.

u/nathancashion · 1 pointr/podcasts

I really don't think you'll find a windscreen.
Just use this or any other $6 pop filter.

Blue only makes one pop filter that I know of. Regardless, you usually just clamp the end on to the stand, and use the gooseneck to position it in front of the microphone. Does it not seem easily attachable?

u/JaggedOne · 1 pointr/hardware

How the heck are you suppose to attach the pop filter to the mic? I got a pop filter as well and I can't get it to fasten anywhere on the yeti!

edit: I have the blue pop filter.

u/frozenfoxy · 1 pointr/letsplay

You can use just about any pop filter as pretty much everything makes it sound better... even pantyhose over a wire hanger works. I personally use this one with my Blue Yeti Pro -> http://www.amazon.com/Stage-ASVS4B-4-Inch-Pop-Filter/dp/B0002GY63O/

There's also the filter specifically designed for Blue Yeti, which will work as well if you want to go that route -> http://www.amazon.com/Blue-Microphones-The-Universal-Filter/dp/B0002H0H4A/

I'd worry more about investing money into things like shock mounts if there are a lot of vibrations in your work area, stands/arms for the microphone if you need it to be setup without the original microphone stand, or blankets to cover walls and absorb sounds to prevent echos. ;p
