If you don't want the barrel cause of the stacked discs they have the regular set for $45

>Also, while regular BD sets of American shows are ~$30 on Amazon after a couple years, they're still $50-60 when they first release.

Are they? I swear that I remember paying around $35 for the first few seasons of Game of Thrones when they were released. I haven't bought a season BD in a while, for whatever reason, but Season 6 is going for $40 on Amazon right now, and it only came out last month, IIRC. Hell, you can get a 27-disc box set of all six seasons for $100! House of Cards goes for $20-35, depending on the season. Vikings, Supernatural, and The Big Bang Theory all follow the same pattern (I'm just picking popular shows at random! Don't judge me!). The Walking Dead and Empire BDs are less than $20 each, despite being two of the highest-rated shows on TV. And they only get cheaper once the show's off the air; right now, I can go on Amazon and get all 62 episodes of Breaking Bad, plus a ton of special features, in a beautiful box set, for $110.

Then, look at anime. To take an example at random, it cost me well over $150 to buy all five volumes of Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood on release. Even now, with the show done and dusted, I'd have to pay for both halves of the Complete Collection, arbitrarily split, for $150-180 each. Psycho-Pass is split, too, with each part going for anywhere from $40-70. And Sailor Moon Crystal (Don't judge me, dammit!) has the unmitigated gall to charge $65 for fourteen episodes. There are some reasonable prices to be found, certainly - Cowboy Bebop, Dragon Ball Z, Death Note (especially Death Note) - but they're the exception, not the rule.

Given that price disparity, and given that it only seems to be widening, it seems to me that anime seriously needs to modernize its financing, production, and distribution. Otherwise, I'm afraid that it'll price itself out of the market even more than it already has.

This boxset has everything the Blu-Ray Barrel has and it's cheaper. You can also get it on DVD's.
