For the cost of 5 months of Netflix, you can buy it all on DVD.
...
But yeah, I still mainly use Netflix to watch the same shows over and over again, and among those shows are The Office and Parks and Recreation.

SyFy gets a lot of good shows but unlike FX they dumpster them pretty quick. Exhibit A: Amazon's new show, The Expanse!

To add onto your statement:

It's available on DVD.

If you like SciFi at all, Fix this.
Today.
Watch at least three episodes.
I'm not kidding.
You can get the series for less than $25 on Amazon if you get it used.
If you're a bit morally ambigious, torrent it.
Hell, Hulu has a few episodes. Of course they don't have the common decency of putting up the first episode.
While I love the Firefly graphic novels and your girlfriend probably is a keeper, unless she writes her thesis in half an hour, you're going to need to find something else to do.
>I personally own all the original DBZ remastered DVDs [...] they also seem to be the worst option?
They're easily the worst-looking release, yes.
The "Orange Brick" DVDs were treated with an aggressive noise filter, the colors are overly-contrasted, and with the early seasons, excessive detail loss occurs during scenes with shaky picture. These aren't cherry-picked images, either. In fact, those aren't even the worst examples I can give.
>I considered maybe checking out the Blu-Ray Remastereds if possible because of the better cropping, but I also heard they suffer from some issues as well.
The Blu-ray releases suffer from similar issues that plague the DVDs (intense grain removal filters, 16:9 cropping), but have substantially better colors, contrast and framing. Compared to the DVDs and their automated center crop, most scenes on the Blu-rays were manually framed, meaning less heads and mouths are out of shot.
>The Dragon Box is an option [...] Unless they're available online for free (like officially, not piracy) that seems like a very unlikely option.
You're kinda out of luck there. The Dragon Boxes are currently a collectors' item, and go for a lot of money. I would recommend the Blu-rays to you if you're purchasing Dragon Ball Z.
>Originally I was just going to watch Dragonball Z Kai. But, I'm not sure if I'd be comfortable with the new dubbed voices to be honest, and I also kind of liked some of the filler
If script integrity has any importance to you, Dragon Ball Z Kai has a much more faithful-to-the-Japanese English dub than Dragon Ball Z does, and as a result, it is often recommended to those who do not wish to watch the series subtitled.
If you're already sold on the "original" dub and American replacement score, I recommend the Blu-ray season sets. But if you're open to some minor casting changes, I strongly urge you to watch Dragon Ball Z Kai. If you decide to watch Kai, you should know that the Majin Buu arc has yet to be released outside of Japan. Because of this, you will need to switch to episode 200 of Dragon Ball Z after finishing episode 98.
FYI, Star Trek: The Next Generation - The Complete Series Box Set- Season 1-7 [Blu-ray] is only $76.43 at Amazon https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00NQXC2YU/

Here are few steps for non-US users to stream The Expanse, although they'd be still breaking the Amazon's T&C.
Step 1: Get an amazon.com account.
Step 2: Load balance through your credit or debit card - https://www.amazon.com/asv/reload/order?_encoding=UTF8&ref_=asv_gclp_bwd_pd
Step 3: Use a fake US address and set that as your default address.
Step 4: Buy the episodes & season pass - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B018BZ3SCM/ref=nav_timeline_asin?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Now that you're done, you can watch the series without a VPN. Increase in digital sales, DVDs & Blu-rays are probably the only real ways to get Amazon on board. So do what you can.
Yes, you need a Prime membership, the shows will not be available for purchase viewing without a membership (at least to start with).

Here's the copypasta of my /r/loseit post so you don't need to click:
[And] here's my 1 year post from January, for most of the details about where/how I started and what I've been doing.
Stats:
Food: mostly slow carb (legumes, veggies, protein), one cheat day a week. Occasional other cheat days for special occasions/holidays.
Exercise: was very sporadic, but I'm close to finishing my second round of the 30 Day Shred (with some rest days this time), and have just started with the Zombies, Run! C25K training app (but damn it is hot where I am at the moment). I can't believe that I am a person who considers exercise a part of her life now (at least recently)! It is weird to realise sometimes, but I really enjoy seeing what my body can do and getting noticeably stronger (there are muscles under here somewhere!). I have started worrying about the scale a lot less, and focusing on skills and measurements more.
Tracking: I keep a ridiculously detailed and ever-expanding spreadsheet on Google Docs which includes (but is not limited to) weight in kilos and pounds, 7 day moving average, moving difference over 1, 2, 4, and 8 weeks, projections, goals and dates achieved, graphs, measurements, and body fat percentage. I also track steps, exercise, and weight with Fitbit, and then view yet more graphs with TrendWeight and WeightGrapher. I take weekly measurements and progress photos and keep them in a diary app on my phone (Memoires for those who are interested. I like it because it gives the option to keep the photos encrypted and separate from the rest of the ones in the main memory).
Motivation: I've gotten to the point where I'm just doing what I'm doing, which is kind of awesome. The food is never a huge problem (although I do get tempted to snack sometimes), but I found that if I wasn't "doing" exercise (e.g. if I felt like I was taking a break for a few days), it was way too easy to just lapse. So currently I am exercising. That's just the way it is. I also signed up for the most recent round of /r/90daysgoal, and the community there is awesome at being supportive, helpful, and knowledgeable. I've read a couple of self-help-ish books, and though I haven't actively followed any plans, I've definitely incorporated a lot of the concepts into my daily thinking and planning. I'm also motivated by my ridiculous spreadsheet, and the awesome stories here and on /r/progresspics.

My recommendations from books I read in the last year or so (yes, these are all VERY STRONG recommends curated from ~100 books in the last year) -

Science fiction-
Derek Kunsken's The Quantum Magician (I would describe it as a cross between Oceans Eleven with some not-too-Hard Science Fiction. Apparently will be a series, but is perfectly fine as a standalone novel).
Cixin Lu's very popular Three Body Problem series (Mixes cleverly politics, sociology, psychology and science fiction)
James A Corey's The Expanse Series (which has been made into the best sci fi tv series ever!)
Hannu Rajaniemi's Quantum Thief series (Hard science fiction. WARNING - A lot of the early stuff is intentionally mystifying with endless terminology that’s only slowly explained since the main character himself has lost his memories. Put piecing it all together is part of the charm.)

Fantasy-
James Islington's Shadow of What was Lost series (a deep series which makes you think - deep magic, politics, religion all intertwined)
Will Wight's Cradle series (has my vote for one of the best fantasy series ever written)
Brandon Sanderson Legion series (Brandon Sanderson. Nuff said. Creative as always)

Manga -
Yukito Kishiro's Alita, Battle Angel series (the manga on what the movie was based)

Non-Fiction-
Jonathan Haidt's The Righteous Mind - Why Good People are Divided by Politics and Religion (and how we are not as rational as we believe we are, and how passion works in tandem with rationality in decision making and is actually required for good decisionmaking)
Rothery's Geology - A Complete Introduction (as per title)
Joseph Krauskopf's A Rabbi's Impressions of the Oberammergau Passion Play, available to read online for free, including a fabulous supplementary of Talmud Parallels to the NT (a Rabbi in 1901 explains why he is not a Christian)

Audiobooks -
Bob Brier's The History of Ancient Egypt (as per title - 25 hrs of the best audiobook lectures. Incredible)

Academic biblical studies-
Richard Elliot Friedman's Who Wrote The Bible and The Exodus (best academic biblical introductory books into the Documentary Hypothesis and Qenite/Midian hypothesis)
Israel Finkelstein's The Bible Unearthed (how archaelogy relates to the bible)
E.P. Sander's Judaism: Practice and Belief, 63BCE-66CE (most detailed book of what Judaism is and their beliefs, and one can see from this balanced [Christian] scholar how Christianity has colored our perspectives of what Jews and Pharisees were really like)
Avigdor Shinan's From gods to God (how Israel transitioned from polytheism to monotheism)
Mark S Smith's The Early History of God (early history of Israel, Canaanites, and YHWH)
James D Tabor's Paul and Jesus: How the Apostle Transformed Christianity (as per title)
Tom Dykstra's Mark Canonizer of Paul (engrossing - will make you view the gospel of Mark with new eyes)
Jacob L Wright's King David and His Reign Revisited (enhanced ibook - most readable book ever on King David)
Jacob Dunn's thesis on the Midianite/Kenite hypothesis (free pdf download - warning - highly technical but also extremely well referenced)
It does seem like the episode of Firefly where River Tam tears pages from a Bible might be linked to Jefferson's production of his own Bible.
Book: What are we up to, sweetheart?
River Tam: Fixing your Bible.
Book: I, um...
[alarmed]
Book: What?
River Tam: Bible's broken. Contradictions, false logistics - doesn't make sense.
[she's marked up the bible, crossed out passages and torn out pages]
Book: No, no. You-you-you can't...
River Tam: So we'll integrate non-progressional evolution theory with God's creation of Eden. Eleven
inherent metaphoric parallels already there. Eleven. Important number. Prime number. One goes into
the house of eleven eleven times, but always comes out one. Noah's ark is a problem.
Book: Really?
River Tam: We'll have to call it early quantum state phenomenon. Only way to fit 5000 species of
mammal on the same boat.
[rips out page]
Book: River, you don't fix the Bible.
River: It's broken. It doesn't make sense.
Book: It's not about making sense. It's about believing in something, and letting that belief be real enough
to change your life. It's about faith. You don't fix faith, River. It fixes you.

The above is from our FAQ. If you know what you're expecting, then they're a decent buy. My option, if I were you, would to be picking up an external USB blu-ray player. You could either then rip them or watch them on the disk on your laptop. This would put you at an additional $40 dollars or so, but you could always try to find a cheaper drive.

Link for good measure.
Also, it makes me sad to see things like "Season 1" and "The Complete Series". Too Soon, production people, too soon.
Someone recently asked if Dragon Ball would ever make it to Bluray. To quote /u/VegettoEX:
>Asked often, but no real updates. For an actual HD release, someone would need to pony up and scan film masters. Right now, that would have to be Toei; FUNimation's current masters are digibeta tapes at best.
I mean, they could do an upscaled release to Blu-ray, but that'd be a lot more trouble than it's worth with their current materials, and if they crop anything else... (insert fist-shaking here)
I would honestly expect to see something from Toei on Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball GT in HD before I would expect to see it from FUNimation.
----
That being said, our FAQ in the sidebar has a list of your options when it comes to purchasing the series.
>##Q: What is the best way to purchase the anime?
A: There are many different ways to purchase the anime. While all releases of Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball GT are in their native 4:3 fullscreen aspect ratio, most English releases of Dragon Ball Z were cropped to 16:9 widescreen.
>* For Dragon Ball, your best option is the Blue Brick DVD sets. [4:3 Native]
>Other releases include:
>* The Dragon Ball Z Orange Brick DVD set [16:9 Cropped], which are criticized for their aggressive filtering, over-contrasted colors, automated center crop, and excessive detail loss during scenes with shaky picture.
The complete series is coming to DVD on May 11th.
There are five seasons that you can buy here and I have the first three seasons which each of them have about 30 episodes.
Not really bro
If you like an anime buy it when it come out in the format that you want it in. As the saying goes "vote with your money"
For example
I didn't buy a single version of the original Dragonball series until they finally released it uncut and in dual audio (then purchased all 5 seasons)
http://www.amazon.com/Dragon-Ball-Season-One/dp/B002FOQXTQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1325362660&sr=8-1
http://www.amazon.com/ReBoot-The-Definitive-Mainframe-Edition/dp/B004Q7BF5M
If you want legitimate copies, you can just buy them off of Amazon. Each movie is on it's own disc,
such as Bender's Game. You can get the single discs for all the movies or get the full collection (which is probably a better value).
>Could someone please sum of the differences between versions? I'm really not entirely sure of all the differences.
From our FAQ in the sidebar:
>####Q: What is the best way to purchase the anime?

> For Dragon Ball Z, your best option is the most recent Bluray set. [16:9 Cropped]
> For Dragon Ball Z Kai, your best option is most recent Bluray/DVD set. If you prefer Kenji Yamamoto's musical score, you want "Parts 1-4" of the Part set. [4:3 Native]
> For Dragon Ball GT, your best option is the Green Brick DVD set. [4:3 Native]
>Other releases include:
> The Dragon Ball Z Orange Brick DVD set [16:9 Cropped], which are criticized for their aggressive filtering, over-contrasted colors, automated center crop, and excessive detail loss during scenes with shaky picture.
> The Dragon Ball Z Dragon Box set [4:3 Native], the now-out-of-print collector's edition which is considered by many to be the best DVD set of the series. Unfortunately, they run around $700 for a complete set on eBay, and don't include the American broadcast score.
> The Dragon Ball Z Bluray Level Sets [4:3 Native], the now-cancelled Bluray set which was praised for its faithful colors, grain preservation and original 4:3 aspect ratio.
> The Dragon Ball Z "Rock The Dragon" set [4:3 Native], which contains all 53 episodes of the original Ocean Group dub.
There are other releases, like the old DVD singles (fullscreen video, first Funimation dub) and the Ultimate Uncut set (debut of 001-067's redub), but these have been out of print for ages.

Firefly: The Complete Series [Blu-ray] (2014)
Price: $18.49
---
This is at least the 2nd time during this sale someone posted the higher priced listing instead.
This is the set I purchased not too long ago. It ended up being a UK version but it worked fine on all my players (PS4, Xbone, and some at a friend's house)
https://www.amazon.com/Battlestar-Galactica-Complete-Blu-ray-Packaging/dp/B0027UY8B8
Came with extended versions of episodes (I recommend watching these over the regular ones!), a bunch of extras such as deleted scenes, concept art, commentary. It had a little pamphlet full of spoilers that I recommend new viewers avoid. It has the miniseries, every episode of the show, and Razor (in standard and extended), but it's missing The Plan.
The packaging was neat and fairly sturdy and will definitely last a while. Doesn't look bad either. The price is terrific too.
As for 4K releases, I'm not sure. BSG is kind of a dead franchise like Stargate. At least for now. BSG came back from the dead once and Star Trek did it twice. The problem with 4K and BSG is I'm not sure how well a lot of the shots and effects would hold up and it might require a bit of investment for Universal to make. There would have to be a pretty substantial show of interest among fans for such a project.
For Dragonball you want the Blue bricks those are the uncensored version. Funimation haven't really been censoring it since the VHS days.
For Dragonball Z i'd go with Kai because it cuts out all the fillers and isnt slow paced unlike the original. Plus it stays true to the manga. You will need to watch the original at episode 200 since the dubbed version for the Buu saga hasn't been release. If you don't mind subbed you can continue with that.
As for Super i'd say it's worth your time, starts of a little slow and does get much better. You don't have to watch Battle of the Gods or Resurrection F as both those stories are being retold in DBS.
Seasons 1&2
Seasons 3&4
ReBoot: The Definitive Mainframe Edition
I really wish I knew about the complete series edition before buying the seasons 1&2 edition. Oh well...
I think the heart of the matter is, in the words of Gabe Newell (Blessed be His name);
"We think there is a fundamental misconception about piracy. Piracy is almost always a service problem and not a pricing problem," he said. "If a pirate offers a product anywhere in the world, 24 x 7, purchasable from the convenience of your personal computer, and the legal provider says the product is region-locked, will come to your country 3 months after the US release, and can only be purchased at a brick and mortar store, then the pirate's service is more valuable."
I used to pirate video games all the time, but since I stated using Steam I've almost completely stopped it. I already have more games in my library than I could possibly finish playing for the foreseeable future, and it's provided by an affordable and reliable service. There's just no reason for me to look elsewhere.
The Anime industry needs to emulate this. Today I can legally download a huge selection of video games but for most anime shows legal streams are simply not available. There needs to be a reliable service which doesn't block out big parts of the world. Not to justify my piracy but I do think producers share some of the blame for why piracy is as widespread as it is. Why is it completely impossible for me to legally watch their show even if I'm willing to pay for it?
It's also the fact that often buying these shows is outrageously expensive. I mean, just compare:
The first 7 Episodes of Sword Art online on DVD cost about as much as the full second season of Game of Thrones on Blu-ray
The limited edition Blu-ray release of the 11 episode run of Nisemonogatari costs about the same as Pre-ordering the entire 62 episode run of Breaking bad on blu-ray
The first season of Haruhi Suzumiya on DVD costs more than All 8 Harry Potter movies on Blu-ray
It may look like I'm cherrypicking but I'm really not. When you buy anime the amount of content you get for your money is far less than if you spend that same amount of money on western shows. This is one of the reasons I own relatively few anime series. I can only accept these kinds of prices if I absolutely must own the show. I do hope you take the price factor into consideration, I feel it's often overlooked and I do think it's one of the things that keeps sales so low. I mean, Haruhi came out 7 years ago. Western shows that old can usually be found for peanuts. One Anime I genuinely wanted to buy was Shinsekai Yori but the series was split in 9 Volumes each costing about 50-80$. Even as a huge fan of the series I just don't have that kind of money.

There's only one way that I know of to buy pre-Z Dragon Ball uncut and in its entirety. You'll want to pick yourself up the Blue Bricks. The quality isn't terrible compared to the Orange Bricks. Don't forget about the movies.
For Z, you'll definitely want to avoid the Orange Bricks. The only good thing about this release is that it finally made Dragon Ball Z easy to buy without collecting endless DVDs. But the picture is botched up beyond being saved, and it's cropped to widescreen. Ideally you'd want to purchase the Dragon Boxes, but they're out-of-print and cost a pretty penny. Maybe check eBay if you're interested. You're probably going to want to go with the latest Blu-Ray releases. They're still cropped like the Orange Bricks, but they're a superior overall product even if they still aren't up to par with what we should be getting. Pick up the movies and Battle of Gods too.
GT is pretty simple. Buy the Green Brick. Like the pre-Z Blue Brick, the "remastering" didn't destroy the integrity of the product. It also comes with the one GT TV special. Yay!

Sorry this is coming late, but I thought I'd give my input since I solely use DVDs now. I definitely have seen results, but you have to make sure you can motivate yourself. Once I get into the groove of it, I'm usually good, though, the past few days I've been bad about it. If I have regular routine, I'm usually good about it and I end up working out 5 times a week, though, the past two weeks I've gotten lazy and worked out maybe 3 or 4 times. But some weeks it happens.
The great thing about DVDs is that I can switch them up and do different ones everyday or do two in one day if they're short DVDs. And since I'm mixing it up all the time, my body doesn't get stuck in a rut and I'm generally sore after each of my workouts.
Anyways, my suggestion would be to look at your local library's selection first. This way you can see what DVDs you like before purchasing them. I've definitely bought a few and now don't ever use them because I don't like something about them. Here are a few suggestions I have, though:
Someone suggested The Firm and I have two that I really like: The Firm: Cardio Overdrive and The Firm Bootcamp - Maximum Calorie Burn. These two are great workouts and mix cardio and plyometrics with weights. The instructor, Alison Davis, is also really good at cuing you. I like going to these DVDs on days I have time (I think they're about 50 minutes, though the Cardio Overdrive has a shorter version that is only 30 minutes or so) and really want a big work out.
Someone also mentioned Jillian Michaels - 30 Day Shred, which I really like. It has three levels and each level has three circuits of strength, cardio, and abs. Each level is about 20 minutes so I like doing this on days I don't have a lot of time. Or some days I'll do level 1 and level 2.
If you're not coordinated or if you're feeling kind of lazy, I'd suggest Leslie Sansone. They're lower impact and don't have a lot of complicated moves. You might not see results as quickly using her DVDs, but getting up and moving is better than nothing! I like Leslie Sansone: 5 Really Big Miles and Leslie Sansone: Walk It Off and Tone It Up. The latter has you using a resistance band while walking. I have to warn you, she can be a bit annoying.
Along with the Firm and Jillian Michaels' 30 Day Shred, I think this one is one of my top favorites: Results Fitness: Boost Your Metabolism. It will make you sweat!
10 Minute Solution: Blast Off Belly Fat is another favorite of mine. It has some really good ab workouts. There are 5 different workouts you can choose and each are 10 minutes. I usually do 3 of the 5 - Flat Belly Fast, Ab Ripper and Six Pack Abs. The other two are good, but I just don't love them as much as the other three.
Quick Fix: Total Cardio Kick is one of the first DVDs I bought and used continuously. There are three 10 minute workouts that each target different parts of the body (arms and back, abs, legs and glutes) and a bonus 10 minute workout that works the whole body. I like doing this when I'm low on time.
Double Pump featuring Shpresa - Lower Body Workout is one of my newer DVDs. The lower body workouts are decent, but I really like her ab workouts. If I'm doing an abs day I'll pop in the 10 Minute Solution DVD and choose the abs workout portion of this DVD and will definitely feel it the next day. This one is really good for working out the lower abs, which I generally have a hard time doing.
Denise Austin has a ton of DVDs out there. She was the first DVD I worked out to (besides my mom's Jane Fonda DVD when I was a little kid). Some of her DVDs are better than others and she can be a little annoying. These two are among her better ones: Denise Austin: Boot Camp - Total Body Blast and Ultimate Fat Burner. They use a step in the Ultimate Fat Burner one, which I don't have, but I still get a great workout just doing it on the floor.
For Pilates, I like doing Crunch - Super SlimDown: Pilates Yoga Blend. It's good without being super annoying.
Another Crunch DVD I like is Crunch: Total Resculpt. It has a bunch of different weight exercises.
Now the title of this one is a little misleading: Ageless with Kathy Smith: Total Body Turnaround. It makes it seem like it's for old people, but I was sore from her weights segment the next day. It's not one of my favorites, though, for some reason.
I just started using this one: Shape Toning Workout: Bikini Body All Year-Round. It takes workouts from their magazine and actually shows you how to do them, which I like. I hate looking down at the magazine while trying to do the different moves.
Self - Slim and Sleek Fast is one that I've had for a while. Oddly enough, it's the same instructor as the Crunch Pilates/Yoga DVD I mentioned earlier. She looks different in this one, but it's the same person! It mixes cardio with weights.
Anyways, there are a million different DVDs out there and these were the ones I could think of off the top of my head. Some of them might not be for you, but hopefully you'll like some of them! Like I said, try checking out your local library first. There's usually a ton. Or ask some of your friends. Just about everyone I know has the Jillian Michaels' 30 Day Shred and they might have a few others.
I like doing DVDs because I don't get bored as easily and it pushes me to do more reps and sets and do cardio longer than I would myself. But you have to make sure you can motivate yourself. Plus, I can wear whatever I want, look stupid, and I don't have to go anywhere!
Good luck!
I find I have to exercise every day to maintain my weight. Food and beer are just so yummy!
This works great for me, it's only 20 minutes but it's a concentrated 20 minutes. Every morning! (ok, I take one day off a week usually): http://www.amazon.com/Jillian-Michaels-30-Day-Shred/dp/B00127RAJY
Definitely worth getting on Blu-ray. If you don't mind the rating logos on the box, get this UK set: http://www.amazon.com/Battlestar-Galactica-Edward-James-Olmos/dp/B0027UY8B8/ref=sr_1_1?s=movies-tv&ie=UTF8&qid=1393855633&sr=1-1&keywords=battlestar+galactica
It's cheaper than the US, and it's only missing The Plan.
Get THIS VERSION instead.
It has everything but The Plan.
It is $57.80 shipped to U.S. from amazon.co.uk right now (region-free).
(.co.uk uses the same accounts as .com, and the price you pay is approx. 17% less than the page shows because they don't charge VAT for U.S. customers)
From my experience Blu-Rays are quite often cheaper on amazon.co.uk than amazon.com (just have to keep an eye on the region locking).
edit: apparently this version misses "The Plan" TV movie which the U.S. edition, has, though, but otherwise contains all the same episode content (including the extended episodes), not sure about any extras.
You can just pick it up on DVD from Amazon.
Edit: BAM!
You mean the barrel set, right?
Yup. And for only $86 too.. No bluray has been announced. Alternatively there are eight "volume sets". Season 1 and 2 are in the first volume and every subsequent one is a full season. Every episode is the original broadcast too so you don't have any cut scenes like in reruns.
Amazon has the whole series on sale for $81. Futurama: The Complete Series https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00F77MAC2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_AgurzbQB0WAK7
All I could find was this $70 one on Amazon.
And bluray doesn't even exist :(
https://www.amazon.com/Futurama-Complete-Billy-West/dp/B00F77MAC2
Personally I would just buy this and save the trouble.
That's cool. But like I said, it's not the same as a complete box set that many shows get, like LOST and Breaking Bad, which are in one box and include exclusive content not available in the individual seasons. TOS didn't get that complete series treatment... I doubt TNG will either.
Since OP is Newman, here is the link.

And as a side bar here: Give us a fucking Blu-ray already. Seinfeld deserves better than 480p and janky-ass "HD" cropped-all-to-shit broadcasts.
I think most of us here can relate to that "problem". If you've got the coin, the complete series is on Amazon for only $80. That's nothing to sneeze at considering I paid about $40 for each volume over the past ten years ($320 total). The company that put the DVDs together did an incredible job. Lots of behind the scenes interviews and commentaries that enhance the show.
Then again, I could understand why some people love watching the show in syndication more.
The best sci-fi book series to come out in a very long time! The first book is Leviathan Wakes; five more have been written so far, and three more are scheduled to come out over the next three years (and the authors have been pretty good about keeping to that schedule, unlike a certain fantasy author we all know and love).
If reading books isn't your jam or you don't have time, there are also audiobooks some fans swear by. There's also a TV show which just wrapped up its second season, which you can get on Amazon Prime in the US and Netflix everywhere else.
If you like sci-fi that does its best to stick to actual science, space battles, political intrigue, and likeable characters who grow more complex with every book, I highly reccommend it!
Awesome. Shohreh Aghdashloo would make an awesome live-action portrayal of her. She currently plays the completely bad ass Chrisjen Avasarala in the great space opera, The Expanse.
You can catch it on SyFy, Amazon Prime. Definitely a plug. Great show. If you enjoy reading, you can also pick up any or all of the books by James S. A. Corey! Funny note.. it says "8 book series" yet the link says "7 book series". Sorry if any of the links are against the rules!

BWAAAAHHHHHHAAAAAAHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAHA! Coming soon to an Earth near you:
All Life on Earth Extinguished by Warming of Deep Oceanbed Hydrates
by G.D. O'Shit
Date: April 1, 2014
WASHINGTON - Global warming took its final toll today. After melting the icecaps on both the north and south poles, global warming has gradually raised the temperatures of the deep oceanbed a full 1.5 degrees Celsius. This increased temperature has today finally "unlocked" millions of tons of deep ocean methane hydrates from its watery grave. Scientists had been working feverishly since 2009 to extract and burn off the hydrates gradually in order to avoid this catastrophe and generate enormous amounts of energy for consumer and commercial use in the process, but the work was started too late to make a difference due to the lack of funding and widespread public support. The situation was exacerbated by the accelerated pace of increasing solar luminosity due to an unexpected increase in sunspot activity which has dramatically increased the temperature of all planets in the solar system, including of course, Earth. In a sudden explosive outburst, the hydrates have sublimed back into the gaseous state, causing Tsunamis and ravaging the worlds coastal populations worldwide. The Earth's atmosphere has returned to a condition similar to that which existed before humans walked the Earth. The heavy concentration of methane gas in the atmosphere has made outdoor breathing impossible and has extinguished all human life on Earth except for a few of us living in pockets of uncontaminated air in caves and "Doomsday" vaults for VIPs. The increased concentration of methane in the air along with the existing oxygen has created a highly flammable mixture that we are watching carefully. We have banned outdoor smoking of cannabis and tobacco, but there is a distant thunderstorm brewing in the distance. Is that lightening? Oh NOOOOOOOO!!! The sky is burning, the sky is burning. Please don't take the sky away from me! Run for your ... <signal lost>

I have this one and it has e complete episodes!
These older box sets are called orange bricks.
These episodes look like they have been ripped from the orange boxes. The dub you are hearing is the FUNimation dub with the original Japanese soundtrack. On the orange boxes, there are 3 choices: FUNi dub w/ Japanese sountrack, FUNi dub w/ Bruce Faulconer soundtrack, or Japanese dub w/ Japanese soundtrack. Whoever ripped the videos from the orange boxes must have edited out the opening and closing sequences for each episode and that's why they are gone.
They started breaking them up by seasons for the orange box releases. They pretty much follow the sagas though.
Get these DVD sets or
These Bluray sets.
They both have the option of choosing between Japanese and US music. Starting at episode 68 you will want to select US Broadcast Audio in the audio settings for Faulconer music. I would also recommend not getting the DVD sets and going for the Blurays if you have a Bluray player. The Blurays look much better.
Dragon Ball is available on DVD on these blue sets http://www.amazon.com/Dragon-Ball-Season-One/dp/B002FOQXTQ
Dragon Ball Z is available in it's entirety on DVD on similar sets but they are fairly awful quality (fake widescreen, heavy filtering applied, etc) http://www.amazon.com/Dragon-Ball-Season-Vegeta-Saga/dp/B000KWZ1TI
Dragon Ball GT is available in a single DVD set
http://www.amazon.com/Dragon-Ball-GT-Sean-Schemmel/dp/B0063RE4X8
They've released the Dragon Ball Z movies on blu-ray, and Dragon Ball Z Kai is available on blu-ray, and they've started and stopped releasing the series previously with the Level 1.1 and Level 1.2 sets (no longer available). It looks like they are going to try releasing it on blu-ray AGAIN though http://www.amazon.com/Dragon-Ball-Blu-ray-Sean-Schemmel/dp/B00F9IB1M4
I wouldn't hold my breath though. Funimation likes to start releasing a set and then cancel halfway through. Plus from what I'm reading it's the same garbage quality as the orange brick sets, only it's the 1080p version of it.
There are a lot of good workout videos out there.
I'm currently doing the 30 Day Shred. I've also heard great things about Insanity and P90X, although those are well out of my price range.
I used to be really horrified by the prospect of running outside. I think I thought people would judge me for not running long enough, or being too jiggly or something. This summer though, I downloaded an app for Couch to 5K, put some music on my phone and just started going! For some reason, when I had something telling me exactly when to start and stop running, I felt WAY better about running in public.
Keep in mind that the most important part of losing weight is changing your diet! Good luck!
A few years ago I would have said the complete series of Daria or No Holds Barred. They've both been released now so I really don't know. There's a lot of old wrestling pay per views and VHS features that have never gotten a proper region 1 release.

Here's the US store link.
I can confirm it has everything except The Plan. (It doesn't have Blood and Chrome, but that is a prequel-type thing.)
I bought this and watched it all (for the first time) a few months ago. There were some questions about what players it would work on - all I know is it played fine on my PS3.
I saw some of the reviews commenting on transferring issues/quality issues... I never saw the original airing or the show on DVD, but I thought the quality on blu ray was good and had nothing to complain about.
It looks incredible but one warning, the miniseries and about the first half of the first season are grainy as hell in 1080p. There is even a RDM bit before watching the show saying that this is how it's supposed to look. It's not that bad but sometime during the first season they start toning down the film grain and then the show looks even better (to me). Just thought I'd warn you if you started watching and think there's something wrong.
Also here's a tip, the UK series release works in all regions and is only 40 bucks which is a third the price of the US release. Neither include The Plan so you'll have to get that seperatly if you want it.
Did you find an especially good deal? Just amazon? It's currently $54.00 for the entire series which is damned good, might just scoop that up (because I don't have Hulu.)
It's not flimsy since it is all plastic. And the discs are fully closed in the head. I bought it on amazon.

Well, to be fair, you make a percentage if the click-through-er makes a purchase from Amazon within the next 24 hours. So, you click an ad for Bender's head before heading home on Wednesday night just before leaving work, you go home, realize it would be the perfect thing for your brother's birthday on Friday, come back to work in the morning and buy it for him while having your second cup of coffee. Boom goes the dynamite. Reddit makes $7.
And you know Amazon can be a black hole, especially if you have Prime.

Trust me go all in while it’s on sale, I paid more than this (like 50 bucks not full price) and every disk provides added laughs. Especially if you’ve hit the point where you have memorized the lines and cadence of Netflix rewatches; the deleted scenes are refreshing and the commentary is pretty good. Like listening to conversations with some of the actors and writers ( it varies each episode) sometimes they stay on topic and sometimes it’s just funny and you get to see a little of the personalities of those involved with the show.
You can get the entire box set off of Amazon for $49.99

Yep. It's on amazon.
I bought the UK version from Amazon.UK about a year ago. It is region free, I'm in the US and had no problems with it. On Amazon.UK its $56.54 after converting to USD and adding shipping. thats cheaper than either version on the US Amazon. When I heard about the US version coming out I did some googling and what I found suggested that the new US version is pretty much just a rebox of the same discs. the few minor errors weren't considered worth fixing for them. A light flashing blue instead of red when data takes over the enterprise, a planet rotating in the wrong direction, I can't even remember what the others were, but it's the kind of thing you only notice if you are informed about them ahead of time, or you obsessively scrutinize every tiny detail. Unfortunately I can't find the same info again to reference now. But since both versions are full series sets, and the UK one is region free and significantly cheaper, and even cheaper still if you buy it from Amazon.UK, my advice is buy the UK set from Amazon.UK and spend $42-$77 less on it. I've started checking Amazon UK for cheaper region free blurays before I buy the ones on the US Amazon, there are frequently cheaper identical or nearly identical sets on UK, just takes a little longer to get it delivered.
Here it is for $62 https://www.amazon.co.uk/Star-Trek-Generation-Season-Blu-ray/dp/B00NQXC2YU/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1483565430&sr=8-3&keywords=star+trek+blu+ray
The British edition is on pre-order, so I can't imagine the US version will be too far behind. I'm sure they don't want to make any announcements until after Christmas, so they can milk that sweet, sweet individual season money.
I know Amazon had the Blu Ray boxed set for $65 recently. Someone posted about it on the sub recently. It was a great price so I'm unsure if the sale is still in effect or whether there's any left. But it should be something Amazon normally carries. However, I don't know what country you're in and whether Amazon is easily accessible there.
Edit:
Found it! It's $64.99.

Edit: /u/ltbs found it; see above.
Dragonball Z!
Thanks for the awesome contest :)
Kinda. Season 2 is only 17 on amazon, and 1, 3, and 4 are only 25.

The closest and most available thing is the Bluray release.
This release contains 3 audio tracks:
There are blueray sets for both of them, here is hos the first kai release looks http://www.amazon.com/Dragon-Ball-Kai-Season-Blu-ray/dp/B0079KGANU / http://www.amazon.com/Dragon-Ball-Kai-Part-Blu-ray/dp/B0036ZA8G2

You'll have to get the office complete series DVD set. It's amazon page lists everything that's included: https://www.amazon.com/Office-Complete-Steve-Carell/dp/B00LTO342M
There's also a dvd that has all of the digital shorts that the office did over the years. I think it's called "The Office: Overtime"

The one at amazon ( https://www.amazon.com/Office-Complete-Steve-Carell/dp/B00LTO342M ) has spanish subtitles but only english audio.
Oh yes. It's glorious. They took the original film negatives and recomposited them for blu ray. TNG has never ever been so beautiful.
15th December in the UK at least.

> in hopes of a complete set being released
Can't seem to find it on the US store but on the UK one it is here currently at £158.50 or $256...
The cases that the UK (Region Free) TNG and ENT Blu Ray series are great and are not brittle at all. If you are looking at the same rolodex-style cases as the blu ray sets I link to below (with pictures), they are very strong and sturdy and are very easy to use. It doesn't matter if they're holding blu rays or DVDs - they do the job and I highly recommend them as I own both.
Picture of them here: (look for the reviewers' pictures on the right side, half way down, and there's lots of pictures of each)
TNG Blu ray set: https://www.amazon.com/Generation-41-Disc-Complete-Seasons-Bundle/dp/B00NQXC2YU
ENT Blu ray set: https://www.amazon.com/Star-Trek-Enterprise-Full-Journey/dp/B00SM43MO2
NOTE: some of the TNG pictures are of the DVD release and have a different case (2 discs on each face of a page). You're looking for the one with 1 disc per page (1 per face of a page).
I really wanted to buy it..
Then I seen that season 1 alone was over $100 CAD and I laughed my way to piratebay.
Sorry guys. I understand you did a lot of hard work, and put a lot of man-hours into this, but you need to sell it at a reasonable price (do what you gotta do) if you expect people to purchase it.
$700 on Star Trek TNG re-mastered? Sorry man. Even if I wasn't a broke college student.. which I am.. that wouldnt fucking happen. Ever.
Now that they've all been released, you can buy the box set for $350 which is MUCH more reasonable. Still a punch in the bag.. sure.. but if I wasn't poor as hell I would probably do it as a gift or something to a friend.
Now... put it up online for stream at $10 a season? You've got my money.
$70 > $0
Doing a bit of research, it looks like they're deeply discounting the full set, at least in the UK. Pre-orders are now being taken by amazon UK, with a price tag of only $158.50 pounds, or ~$250 US. Kinda pisses me off, because I've already paid close to (or maybe even over) $400 for just the first six seasons.
No word on a US release (which is pretty odd, IMO). It's worth noting that the one I linked above is listed as being region-free. If you're in the States, you should be absolutely certain before buying it from the UK that your player will play 50hz video, which is the British standard (US video is 60hz). Some players do, some don't. I can tell you from first-hand experience that no Sony machines in the US will play UK Blu-Rays.
They aren't "cutting content". This format is standard across the industry. Go back and check the runtime of Season 1 episodes. They are all right around 40-43 minutes depending on episode, with episode 1 the only one being 44 minutes.
https://www.amazon.com/Dulcinea/dp/B018BZ3SCM
Same is true for Season 2 - every episode is between 40 and 44 minutes long.
Nothing has changed.
I think it's available through regular Amazon also... here are a couple options:

Here's a handy character and location guide poster, if you need it https://i.redditmedia.com/HKfE42cU4wQIK3JPAkZ_BteUoEzKJBKrjNl9INv3S_M.jpg?s=c4c64ada4f128a5b8bc7c75cc1df0e8d
Yes. They left Top Gear after Clarkson's contract wasn't renewed. They make a little car show for Amazon now.
Caught-up on several episodes of The Grand Tour on Amazon.
I know we can be super critical here, but just look at this:
IMDB - 9.6 - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt5712554/. 9.6! Not a single of their 25 highest rated movies get a 9.6.
Also, Amazon reviews: 90% 5 stars, 6% 4 stars. https://www.amazon.com/The-Grand-Tour-Season-1/dp/B01J94A5GQ.
Granted this will go down eventually but talk about an insanely good start.

In which country do you live. If it is anything other than the US chances are that you can find at least one of the series on either Netflix or Amazon Prime Video. You can also buy the blu ray/dvd sets for ATLA and for LOK if streaming is not an option.
>I am looking for a complete package so I don’t miss out on even the smallest of extra scenes and stuff like that!
There are not really any "extra scenes" as far as I know but if you really want to get everything avatar related you might be interested in the comics. Here is a guide to all currently released and future comics.
Your submission has been removed for the following reason:
>This topic is addressed in our FAQ. See the link for more details about the different dub versions and soundtracks.
There are many different ways to purchase the anime. While all releases of Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball GT are in their native 4:3 fullscreen aspect ratio, most English releases of Dragon Ball Z were cropped to 16:9 widescreen. All home releases except for the "Dragon Box" and "Rock the Dragon" sets offer three soundtrack options: Japanese with original soundtrack, English dub with original soundtrack, and English dub with Funimation's replacement soundtrack. (There is no Funimation soundtrack for Kai or Super.)
Other releases include:
If you prefer a stream, you can watch the series on several online services including FUNimation. Streams are available subbed or dubbed, but both versions will feature the original Japanese soundtrack.

The original Cosmos book by Sagan might be good here. If your friend likes that, follow up with The Pale Blue Dot.
If you want to to give your friend a taste, direct him to the Sagan Series, specifically, part 3: A reassuring Fable.

I have a few references for you to look at.
First of all, check out The Magic of Reality, it's Dawkins' new book, aimed at the younger set and is way cool.
Secondly, definitely watch Cosmos! I think that has the kind of appeal and general sense of wonder that you're looking to express. It is widely available for free should you know where to look. The library, for example.
As a science-oriented young girl, I liked Zoom! a lot. That's going to be a little harder to find, but it was really, really cool.
I wish you a lot of luck! I will ask my mother (a 3rd, 4th, and now 1st grade teacher) what her kids find the most engaging for science workshops. If you are anywhere near the NYC area, the Liberty Science Center would be a great hands-on resource.
Cosmos. It's a disgrace that the price is prohibitive though.

This bill is designed to stop only the people who are not pirating in the first place. If you really wanted to you could circumvent blocked websites. This bill also makes a big assumption that I will buy more if I can't pirate it. This maybe just me but I am not going to buy the whole Friends Box Set for $100, I might buy it for nothing on the internet.

The best way to collect GT is in a garbage bag. All jokes aside the Blue and Orange bricks are the cheapest solution for a complete collection of Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z. As far as I know GT hasn't been released on blu ray yet, so this is what you want. For the Dragon Ball Z TV specials the bluray release of History of Trunks/Bardock is the best way to get those two.
What? All the Dragon Ball remasters have done very well.
FUNimation's horribly insulting remaster, where they over-saturated the colors and cut off 20% of the picture, did extremely well on DVD, and continues to do so Blu-Ray. I, personally, hate their remastering, but it was the top selling anime DVD for multiple years.
Kai did really well everywhere but Japan. Hell, in the U.S. it was on multiple channels at the same time. The Buu arc of Kai was created solely for the international market because of how will it did outside of Japan. (It wasn't until later that Japan decided to air a different.version of Buu Kai than what was made for the international market.)
I see where you're coming from and I can definitely see YGO going that way, but DB absolutely didn't end up like that.
It's Dragon Ball. It's the biggest anime in the world. It will always do well. Even when I think the product is a piece of shit, it does extremely well.
Like I said, I agree with what your saying, but maybe Dragon Ball wasn't the best series for you to use.
Found a lower price
Yeah Dragonball is 153, DBZ is 291 and GT is 64. I am not really sure where you can download the episodes but if you buy or find a download for these dvd's then it will have all 291 uncut and with 3 different audio tracks. They are great!
Would 30 Day Shred count? If not, how about Daft Punk?

It's too quiet in here!
Dis would make me happy, but if shipping puts it over $10, a gift card would be nice so I can add it to my tv fund. Thanks for the contest! :)
Jillian Michaels' 30 Day Shred
And the X Stretch DVD from my husband's P90x program.
Once I'm done with the full 3 levels in 30 DS, I'm aiming to start Power 90 program, which is a precursor to full insanity of P90x.
No worries. I suggest putting your My Fitness Pal Goals at 'sedentary' and 'lose 1/2 pound a week' and then not eating the calories you earn exercising. You do have to be meticulous in your calorie tracking though! Expect to tweak your diet a lot - some people do better just having a cup of tea for breakfast, some people do better eating their biggest meal in the morning; just keep trying until you find a way that works for you. Some people love keto, but I love toast so that doesn't do it for me (though I envy their big losses!).
30 Day Shred is really good IMO. I found the jumping and running on the spot a bit hard on my knees so I swapped it for pretend running where you don't take your toes off the ground. Have a look at pilates or yoga for flexibility and balance.
Take before pics in short and a tee or jeans and a top and then take them again in a month wearing exactly the same outfit. Take measurements too.
It doesn't snow here (it barely gets cold!) so I have no idea how to function in it! More jumpers!? Build snowmen?
Okay, firstly I have to echo the poster who advised against using buzzwords. It's annoying. I still read the post, but I think some people might click off after realising this.
That being said, when I first got into health and fitness, I read a LOT, tried a lot, tried the couch to 5K, silly fad diets - everything.
The single biggest exercise thing that helped me was actually exercise DVDs. It took me forever to find some that I could stand doing and that I kept up with. Some aren't motivating, other bored me, some were too long and the rest were just a chore. The only one I stuck with was Jillian Micheal's 30 day Shred.
From this, I then bought her Yoga DVD, a cardio one, some more advanced ones of hers - they're amazing.
If you want something that's fast and motivating and gets you into exercise, I totally recommend them. In the 30 Day Shred there's 3 workouts, each is just 20 minutes long. You do one for ten days, then move onto the next, then after another 10 days move on again to the next. As they're only 20 minutes, you can totally fir them in, and the only thing you need is some hand weights (2 cans of beans will do the trick) and a mat if you don't have carpet. She kicks your ass, but you get a lot out of them as well.
So yeah - if you watch your diet (try not to emotionally eat and drink a lot of water throughout the day) and try getting into exercise (honestly, I can't sing this DVD's praises enough), you'll get on top of things in no time.
Well first I hope you have the happiest of birthdays :) 28 is going to be a super awesome year for you.
My favorite birthday was hands down my 21st. My mom convinced my dad to let her use their Am Ex points and she flew us three and a friend of mine to Chicago for 5 days and paid for everything for us and got us tickets to Lollapalooza. I'm super big into music and that was just so so so amazing and we had so much fun! The day of my bday I was having a crap morning and she called cheered me up and was like oh "I put a little Happy Bday money in your account" yeahhhh I checked my acct $2100 I legit started screaming in Panara haha. For reference my bday was in June and Lolla was in Aug.

Happy Birthday
Every other day is good. The minimum you can get away with is 3 runs a week, maybe 4 if you aren't doing some kind of aerobic crosstraining.
Dumbbells and a bench are fodder for folks over in r/fitness. A strength routine isn't going to hurt you at all, but I'm oldschool and would recommend a cardio based workout on your off days. This can be something like a workout dvd or something outside like biking or swimming. Don't knock Jillian, btw, her workouts are excellent and I can hardly do them...
Also, definitely plan on one or two days completely off; your body needs a day or two to recover.
First things first, if you have any unhealthy snacks at home, get rid of them. You can easily replace them with better choices. For a quick snack for me, I usually go for a handful of carrots, a medium sized apple (goes good with peanut butter), a low cal greek yogurt, or a banana. All of these will keep you full for a good few hours.
I don't have much time for fitness but if you're able to get at least 30 minutes a day, you should be good to go. I use a workout DVD at home that's only about 26 minutes and it's high intensity so I still burn 150-200 calories when I finish it and I have plenty of time left for homework.
I'll recommend this because I lost 10 pounds using it:
https://www.amazon.com/Jillian-Michaels-30-Day-Shred/dp/B00127RAJY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1487117838&sr=8-1&keywords=30+day+shred
Yup, it's killer. Even level 1 left me drenched in sweat and sore for a day or two, in spite of the fact that I jog quite a bit.
It's definitely a video for which you need a lot of open space. And it probably won't work if you live in an apartment with people underneath you because it involves lots of jumping jacks.
Here's the link, by the way
Use the extra 5 I would get and get /u/CrimsonJella this from this wish list because fitness :D
Here you go! Definitely one of my better recent purchases.
This DVD, which I have been assured will make me hate my life. is what I most want.
Why?
Well, I am trying very, very hard to get back into shape. Due to a combination of laziness and a thyroid tumor (that supposedly will be handled at some point, if my doctors ever stop sucking) I have put on a lot of weight over the past few months.
By a lot, I mean, most of my clothes no longer fit (I have two wearable pairs of jeans, for example, and they are recent acquisitions), I'm constantly sore all over, and my self-confidence has plummeted hardcore. A couple of months ago, I told myself I would do whatever it takes, and decided to go back to exercising and eating healthier.
Eating healthier has stopped the upward movement on my weight gain-- I'm at least hovering steady, and haven't had to get any more larger clothing. Woo. But exercise is the problem. For the past couple of weeks I've been doing yoga, which has begun preparing me for this... working out thing. I have motivation from a friendboy who is pushing me to work out and get myself healthy again. But beyond the yoga and running my dog, I don't have much in the way of exercise stuff.
I'm terrible at making my own routines (I have two yoga DVDs that I go back and forth on); and I really don't like going to the gym (plus I'd have to get a membership). So exercise DVDs, especially those two that are spoken so highly of, are ideal for me-- I can do what I'm told and follow those instructions like a good mindless robot. :) Sadly, at least the 30 day shred one requires dumbbells for part of it, so those are extremely high on my list too.
It doesn't hurt than I've been under orders from both my medical and psychiatric doctors to do regular exercise-- this is why they are the highest priority for me.
Uh... that's what I got.
Divergent Series book Although, it's actually called Four.
Does that work? If not, let's go with Daria!
Thanks for the contest! I love this idea.

I looked it up and it's already released, but they had to cut out all the short music clips because they are too expensive to get licenses for.
Daria's out on DVD. Bought it a while ago :)
It's not possible to be happier than this!!
If I win, I'd like to get Firefly
You should buy the Firefly boxset if you haven't got it already or if you wanted something not on your wishlists, I'd say to get a Quentin Tarantino boxset since you like the Kill Bill films.
And my own wish link for if I win.
I was going to actually look through your entire wishlist under the criteria of something you would enjoy countless times, then I saw this and it was game over.

Seems it has gone up by a couple bucks and is now $61.
I purchased this set for my first watch of the series: Amazon Link. No issues with compatibility that I experienced; good quality.
It's got the mini-series, the complete series including extended versions of some episodes, and Razor. It's missing The Plan, but I think this box set is a pretty good value - it's really decently priced compare to other box sets.

did you buy the japanese version or the dubbed version?
DBZ season 1 BD only cost 21 dollars on amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Dragon-Ball-Blu-ray-Sean-Schemmel/dp/B00F9IB1M4/ref=sr_1_2?s=movies-tv&ie=UTF8&qid=1449103750&sr=1-2&keywords=dragon+ball+z
anime shops tend to charge quite a lot,
and I also heard aussies hate anything fun and they sell entertainment at a much higher rateIf you want what you saw on toonami, this series is your best bet. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00F9IB1M4?pc_redir=1407264975&robot_redir=1
It's only $50 right now. Seems a lot cheaper than paying $13/month for Netflix forever.
The Office: The Complete Series https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00LTO342M/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_Y8K4Ab2HTKBMV
Dang that sucks. They probably heard that the office might possibly leave Netflix and knew that people would buy the DVDs
Anyway I found the exact same set of dvds on amazon got cheaper. The Office: The Complete Series https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00LTO342M/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_QtbBCbJRPX1JN. It’s $70.
You can probably find it on eBay for $50 if you search.
No problem man, if you wanna watch some other webisodes let me know, I can upload anything from this, look for the Special Features section.
I was wrong to post this:
The Office: The Complete Series https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00LTO342M/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_RONPAbQ6H1YNH
Only $36.00

If you scroll down, the description says there are commentaries, then it lists the specific commentaries (and the commentators) in a break down of each season.
> it's probably just cheaper to go back to buying the DVDs of the shows you want to watch.
Unlikely. I get your point. it is getting silly as the market fragments but purchasing DVDs of entire series is expensive AF.
https://www.amazon.com/Star-Trek-Generation-Complete-Blu-ray/dp/B00NQXC2YU
That is like 6 months of Netflix
This is from Amazon UK
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Star-Trek-Generation-Complete-Seasons/dp/B00NQXC2YU/ref=sr_1_5?s=dvd&ie=UTF8&qid=1416872893&sr=1-5&keywords=star+trek+next+generation
Crazy price but I imagine it'll drop (just in time for Christmas though)
I'm in the same boat. My season 2 came with a slip, but seasons 1 and 3 did not.
FYI, Amazon UK has the complete TNG box set up for preorder for just £158.50.
For those in the U.S., that's about $220 shipped to the states, and all Trek discs are (supposedly) region-free.
I bought The Full Journey Box Set a few months ago when it was for sale for about $50... that deal was just too good to pass up. I'm happy with my purchase but the packaging leaves a lot to be desired. Price notwithstanding, I'd rather have the Complete Series box set that packed all the individual season releases together.
I know this was posted a month ago, buuuuut this comes out to about $96 USD for the entire set. Region free. I just grabbed it, and am selling the seasons I already have to help cover it. I have S1, 4, and 6, so by the end of it I'll end up getting the entire set for roughly $30!
I know, that's weird. But I purchased ones that were on sale whenever I happened to see them.

If the fans want to make a big impact, they should buy the seasons (if they can). At Amazon or any of their preferred vendors.

People on reddit love to say "speak with your wallet" when trying to hurt a product for one reason or another, but it applies the other way around too.
It is on Amazon already: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B018BZ3SCM
Well, it seems this works:
>Step 1: Get an amazon.com account.
>
>Step 2: Load balance through your credit or debit card - https://www.amazon.com/asv/reload/order?_encoding=UTF8&ref_=asv_gclp_bwd_pd
>
>Step 3: Use a fake US address and set that as your default address.
>
>Step 4: Buy the episodes & season pass - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B018BZ3SCM/ref=nav_timeline_asin?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
>
>Step 5: You can watch the series without a VPN.
Of course, this isn't really 100% legit since you're not a US resident and you're supposed to only be able to watch seasons 1&2 on Netflix and nothing else. But it's not like you risk anything or that Amazon's gonna complain, money is still money, wherever it's coming from.
Weekly Recommends
The Slow Mo Guys - I guess this means that 2016's best use-of-slow-motion-game Super Hot!!
Studio C (A comedy show) - I'm not sure how you turn this into a game... But they do have recurring skits that could work, maybe Captain Literal's Cool Game for Figuratively Attractive People. (I have no idea what kind of game that is).
The Grand Tour - I'd love a high quality racing sim, Project CARS or DiRT 4 would be great.
Add the non HDR version to your watch list then load it from the app. You will see this does not occur at the same 32 minute mark. Maybe this is a limitation of HDR as I previously mentioned. I read reviews complaining about this on Apple TV HDR.

Isnt this the blu ray Avatar - The Last Airbender: The Complete Series [Blu-ray] https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07BC5STNG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_bNLXAbXC0WQSJ
Amazon or iTunes for example. But if you don’t like these companies I’m sure you’ll find other vendors. If for some reason you can’t get ahold of a digital copy you could just buy the DVD or Blu-ray and rip it. I’m sure you’ll find these at various local stores as well.
They did. The Blu-ray came out last year:
https://www.amazon.com/Avatar-Last-Airbender-Complete-Blu-ray/dp/B07BC5STNG
Yes, Best Buy should have it. If not you can get it on Amazon for $30.
https://www.amazon.com/Avatar-Last-Airbender-Complete-Blu-ray/dp/B07BC5STNG
Also the Blu ray is only like $30 on Amazon.
Ninja edit: but is apparently "reserved for prime members," which is stupid. Everyone should be able to experience this show in all its HD glory.
When you look on amazon theres 2, one for $30 and one for $60, whats the difference? https://www.amazon.com/Avatar-Last-Airbender-Complete-Blu-ray/dp/B07BC5STNG/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1537466822&sr=8-5&keywords=avatar+the+last+airbender
Last year they released the blu-ray. It's the only way you can watch it in 720p (otherwise its like 480p). It's only ~$30 for the entire series.
Wouldn't it be cheaper to buy them individually?
Avatar:The Last Air Bender 19.99
Legend of Korra 19.99
Sure it's a few dollars but is there something I am missing here?
Buy the Blue bricks for Dragon ball http://www.amazon.com/Dragon-Ball-Season-1/dp/B002FOQXTQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1422081461&sr=8-1&keywords=dragon+ball
For DBZ buy the Blu-rays if your a casual dbz watcher , buy The Dragon Boxes if your a purist , Take note though that the dragon boxes are out of print and very expensive.
This?
Amazon ahoy! I really enjoyed re-watching it.
If only this came in hd...
Hmm, according to wikipedia, they are slated to make a movie still? Also, they released them on DVD recently, finally. They better make that movie, or I will be very very sad, I've been looking forward to a revival for a while now.
Amazon CA/US or Shout Factory
We did get the DVD's finally
AMAZON
I caved and bought the complete series - They're region 1, but as long as you've got a multiregion player that's no issue, and I've loved re-watching every minute.
I couldn't help but think though: Wouldn't it suck to own THAT computer? You'd never win/complete anything.
reboot was amazing show really hope they get the reboot of it finished soon. as for how it ended i would say rewatch it
You're in luck.
Seems to effect this box set
Plus you can stream them all right from the Shout Factory website, which are sources from these DVD's and they don't sound right either.
It was included in the series box set.
-No Half Measures: Creating the Final Season of Breaking Bad - An all-new, exclusive two hour documentary that chronicles the filming of the final eight episodes.
It was also included in the regular edition of the series box set. I just like the barrel edition more.
You mean this:

There is, Amazon already has it for pre-order. $175.59 with Amazon prime.
http://www.amazon.com/Breaking-Bad-Complete-Series-Blu-ray/dp/B00EEDNA4M/
Breaking bad box(barrel) set. Because it's effin' breaking bad! soooo ridiculously overpriced and expnesive though!

Oh no, I'm looking at this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00F77MAC2/ref=cm_sw_r_udp_awd_.btqtb1VVR535
I have a solution.
Amazon has the complete series for $80 on DVD. That is < $8 including the television movies (8 Volumes + 4 television movies).
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00F77MAC2
Amazon US - Futurama: The Complete Series - $86.43 (£66)
Amazon UK - Futurama - Seasons 1-8 - £24.99 ($32)

Yes! Here’s the Amazon.ca [Amazon Link](Futurama: The Complete Series Giftset [Import] https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B00F77MAC2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_CLzbBbVF0RFMV)
America got it in a different box from what I can tell.

While i cant say for sure what it is, I can tell you what it is not.
It's Widescreen, so this excludes the Dragon Box and Blu-Ray "Level Sets"(discontinued before finishing) because they are 4:3.
Audio is clearly the "Remaster" or "Funi V2" (post singles release).
If i had to take a guess id say this came from Either the Orange Bricks or the Blu-ray Release
One other possibility is the more obscure "Ultimate Uncut" version which was discontinued before finishing also, however i don't think its this version because it usually comes pared with a unique intro rather then the japanese one.
It shouldn't be to hard to tell if its the Orange Brick version with a little searching, its rather notorious for having bad cropping to fit the widescreen format (the blurays apparently do a more selective and thus better job at this).
This is why most people praise the Dragon Box version and were rather upset that the Level Sets got canceled in favor of the Cropped/Widescreen Blu-Rays.
so you mean that if I want what I watched growing up I should get this, http://www.amazon.com/Dragon-Ball-Blu-ray-Sean-Schemmel/dp/B00F9IB1M4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1405088343&sr=8-1&keywords=dragonball+z+blu+ray, instead of this http://www.amazon.com/Dragon-Ball-Kai-Season-Blu-ray/dp/B0079KGANU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1405088352&sr=8-1&keywords=dragonball+z+kai ?

52$ used isn't bad
Read Cosmos:
http://www.amazon.com/Cosmos-Carl-Sagan/dp/B000055ZOB
Yeah - the one I have came in a cardboard box. Also - freaking expensive!
how come none has mentioned Cosmos by Carl Sagan yet?
Here you go, I just changed your life. Seriously though, watching this at a [6-7] were some of the best moments in my life. it's like a contemplative, poetic odyssey of the mind from the infinitely small to infinitely large.
oh yeah -- IT'S ON NETFLIX.
Any questions? Okay, well, this isn't directly related to astrophysics but it is something you'd be more in a position to answer than most, and something I've been wondering about for many years.
The original Cosmos was a TV broadcast, and the latest and best iteration made available to the public is the DVD set from 2002. The quality of that set is poorer than it needed to be, because no effort was made to remaster the tapes the episodes were sourced from, despite the black borders and composite artifacts typical of those days.
Today we could, and almost certainly would do so much better. The programs exist as two different elements: Video recordings and film recordings. The video can be cleaned of its composite artifacts, and the rest, being film, could actually be re-scanned as high-definition, enabling Cosmos to be seen in a much more pristine iteration, and even, in parts, HD.
I can't think of a more deserving program, and it would help bring that venerable series up to visual parity with your superb followup. Do you suppose this will ever become a possibility?
Thank you for reading and of course for your invaluable contributions to science awareness.
Buy her the cosmos on dvd. Worked for me.

Firefly is always a classic.
My girlfriend and I watch a lot of TV series. In no particular order here are some of our favorite series.
Firefly
Dexter
True Blood
Charmed
Heroes
Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Angel
Castle
Supernatural
Smallville
Futurama
The Walking Dead
The Tudors
I know there are some more I might be forgetting and I'll add them as they pop in my head. My favorite current series are Supernatural, Dexter, and True Blood. I recommend them highly.

Ok so not sure how helpful this will be but you mentioned your dad liked salt. Have you thought about buying him some truffle salt?

also my dad is a huge beatles fan as well. I got him a book about the beatles a few years ago. I cant find the exact one I got him but I found this on amazon

For brother in law #2 maybe a year subscription to an audio book service like audible or something?
You can check out the product description on amazon. They're showed in the order they are on the dvd with their air dates.
edit:
@ this
> It was better when I watched it that way, I just don't think it's some amazing all time masterpiece.
I think the reason people are disagreeing with you is because you are kind of missing the point. It wasn't an all time masterpiece, but it was a great start. Compared to other series' that most would actually consider masterpieces (pretty much any star trek first season), the first season was pretty phenomenal. Maybe it's not for you, but I found it at least as enjoyable as the expanse, but they aren't really comparable as one is a light hearted character based show and one is an epic thriller that's constantly jumping around the solar system.
Firefly!
Eh, not that close. But I tried.
I'm saving up to buy this... for my fiancee cuz she loves this show.
I've actually never seen Saving Private Ryan...is it worth it?
Here ya go
18.96 a season on Amazon right now
http://www.amazon.com/Dragon-Ball-Season-Vegeta-Saga/dp/B000KWZ1TI/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1394140434&sr=8-4&keywords=dragon+ball+z
I'm entering on behalf of /u/ScribblerJack!
But an anime I always enjoyed was Dragon Ball Z. I got a lot of flack for it too, being a girl and all. But it was fun and it was ridiculous. I used to get pissed when Cartoon Network would run out of episodes and start ALL over in the middle of an epic battle. My preteen self was not happy with not knowing how things ended.
And I don't know what Attack on Titan is. I'm so behind with shows!
Best 10$ for starting to lose weight.
http://www.amazon.com/Jillian-Michaels-30-Day-Shred/dp/B00127RAJY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1394654683&sr=8-1&keywords=30+day+shred
ok the story is: I am 30 years old and in the last year or so, I have found that I am slowly creeping up a dress size or two. I was always one of those thin people who could eat anything and never exercise so I am a total newbie to fitness - I suspect it's the metabolism slowing down with age lol
What is strength training vs weight training? Also a friend recomended a DVD by jillian mitchels which seems to be some sort of strength training/cardio mix.
I know this will sound stupid, and I might get laughed at. But I have been doing the 30 day shred with Jillian Michaels and it really takes the wind out of me. Just requires 20 minutes a day. You will want to start slow but try to do all the exercises. You will be amazed at how this helps get you and your body started.
From there you can look at doing more directed, intense workouts such as weightlifting and jogging.
Your food intake will help you a ton and like other advice kept here - keep track of the alcohol. Health first, if you have to give up drinking while out with them and just order a diet coke for a month, then do it. If you cannot reliably track what you are putting in your body, the effects are greatly diminished in what you are trying to do.
You've just totally inspired me to buy this. (Psst- It's only $6.99 on Amazon! http://www.amazon.com/Jillian-Michaels-30-Day-Shred/dp/B00127RAJY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1332274118&sr=8-1)
If you don't mind doing work out DVDs, I think Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred is a great work out plan.
It's a twenty minute work out, but it really gets your heart pumping. It could work if you don't have much time. Probably also save you money on a gym membership.
Lol that's a good question. I haven't worked out at all in like 2 weeks (feels ashamed) for several reasons (knee injury more than anything) but today I'm starting Jillian Michaels videos again seeing I don't have a chance to go out to run :( I'll be doing this and this at home. That's a 1 hour workout, sounds pretty good to me... what do you think?
I'll definitely stick to eating 1500-1700 calories. The things I eat are: Breakfast: toast with peanut butter, a fruit (banana or mango), and a 198 calorie yoghurt. Dinner: I have salads, chicken, tuna, red meat twice a week max, veggies, beans etc. The rest of the day I eat only fruits like plums, kiwi and mango. and I only drink water.
I also noticed having a food and workout diary helps me a lot, I should restart that asap too.
I've wanted this for a while now. My friend had one we used to do and I could use this one since she moved! And it is only 9 bucks or so. :)
Amazon
I know this isn't quite $50 but I love this show. Not many people remember it but it was hilarious. Throw in this just to fill your life with teenage angst.
I loved Daria as a teen.
And just as I was about to comment that I wish it was on Netflix, or that I was ever able to find the DVD's in Barnes and Noble or Best Buy, I happened to punch it into Amazon. They've got the complete series for only nineteen dollars!
Which is just cheap enough to not make me feel upset that Amazon makes it sudden impulse buying so easy.
well, if he's in his angsty teenage phase... this.
I know its more than $20, but also keep in mind the normal price is $72

OMG I literally just got this today and was so happy BUT the case it came in was pretty shite...It had ripples on the front plastic cover. Thankfully the actual paper cover art is completely fine. The edge on the spine of the plastic cover is also damaged all the way from top to bottom. I'm really new to dvd collecting so I dont know if this is something fixable, or if I should be smarter about which sellers from Amazon to buy from (would that make a difference? I dont know). So far as well the 2 discs I've checked have trouble when I try to skip in episodes. The picture becomes frozen but the audio keeps playing. My biggest gripe is that in both the menus of the discs, when you click on episodes the new screen doesnt load. You see the arrow pointing to the different options but you dont see the episode title names. I know I could potentionally get it replaced, but how would I know I would even get a new one that didnt have that problem?
Also, in my DVD collection I like the idea of purchasing the FIRST original release of a dvd. Is there anyway of knowing whether this: https://www.amazon.com/Daria-Complete-Animated-Tracy-Grandstaff/dp/B0019N8P2W/ref=tmm_dvd_title_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=&sr= or this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07D9FGYXW?pf_rd_p=330fbd82-d4fe-42e5-9c16-d4b886747c64&pf_rd_r=70BY87FQ0RD73X8A2JCJ came out first? I bought the first since it was cheaper.
Since you like Freaks and Geeks, I think that you'll also love this!
If you kids have never seen or heard of the show "Daria", I highly recommend picking up the DVDs.
Yes. Teenage life sucks, and it gets so much better later on.
Morbid? No. Punk? A little. 90's disaffection? OH YES - The Complete Daria Series on DVD (and it's on sale!)

[It's $15 for the blu ray on Amazon right now] (http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B001EN71CW/ref=pd_aw_sims_1?pi=SY115&simLd=1)
Wooosh.
Do you have Netflix?
No? Well here's an Amazon link.
Now go and change your life forever. The internet commands it.
buy it here £30 is more than reasonable
A little OT, but are you in the US or the UK (or elsewhere)? Amazon UK has some spectacular deals on blu-ray sets. (I picked up the full Harry Potter series (fantastic on BD) for about $50 US (now about $45 and the complete Battlestar GALACTICA series (another stunner on BD) for around the same cost a year or so back (it's now about $66 US).
As far as I can tell, the longer versions seem to be only in the Blu-Rays.
But you can get the whole set for as low as $28 (used) on Amazon.

I concur with the second point. If you can't afford to at the moment but you end up really enjoying the series, i suggest buying the blu-ray of BSG which has a plethora of additional content. It's super worth it. This is the one i bought (and also one of the cheapest, but it's very good quality).
Yeah, what ^ this guy said. BSG is a hell of a ride.
It's 40 bucks now on amazon which is, (in my opinion) well worth your money. https://www.amazon.com/Battlestar-Galactica-Complete-Blu-ray-Packaging/dp/B0027UY8B8/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1492616780&sr=8-2&keywords=battlestar+galactica+blu+ray
The grain was intentional with this show. I got the under 50 dollar box set and it is absolutely phenomenal.
on sale right here: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0027UY8B8/
I own this version, it's the full series that also comes with optional extended episodes, bonus features, and Razor. Well worth the $60:

If you have this boxset, it's number 18.

Futurama: The Complete Collection https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0029XFNBC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_Znjwzb1EPDBRW
$600 box set. Worth it?
Totally worth it if you got the cash...or generous parents around Christmas in my case.
Just get one of these.
Although, "Complete" is kind of relative. It was put out before the revival. Of of my favorite presents my wife has gotten me :)
Here ya go, pick one up for me too. lol

Do you know people who like Firefly? Did they watch the original run? Check out the recent Amazon reviews on the DVDs, strange for a show that's declining in viewership. What about this, from Wikipedia:
>Joss Whedon, Tim Minear, and cast members Nathan Fillion, Alan Tudyk, Summer Glau, Adam Baldwin and Sean Maher reunited at the 2012 San Diego Comic-Con for a 10th anniversary panel. Ten thousand people lined up to get into the panel, and the panel ended with the entire crowd giving the cast and crew a standing ovation.[102]
Do you have the actual figures I can look at for sales and streaming, to show that it really is declining? I'd be pretty interested in that, but right now it looks like you're fighting my anecdotal observations with "nuh-uh," which is about as helpful.
Friends: The Complete Series Collection

Nope. It's a work-out routine by Jillian Michaels. I removed my question about eating though.
One could say the same about VHS to DVD, or any format really. Personally, I think if you're going to spend money on something you like, why not get it in the best available quality? Especially when the upgrade is just five dollars more.

It used to be on Netflix, guess it's not anymore. Handy website for you is Moreflicks
Or if you're desperate the blu-rays aren't too expensive
Edit - if you can find a working proxy its on Netflix UK

I have this. Paid $65 for it at release
It's a live audience in the tent, but it's still prerecorded months earlier.
Their website for live tapings even shows that they're recorded months before the episode airs on Amazon Prime. I don't know why people think otherwise.

Also check out The Cosmos if you're after awe inspiring wisdom. It's a wonderful series, and Carl Sagan is a wonderful speaker.
