You can do this yourself for much less than hiring someone. Grip tape
Maybe you could use the same tape as on skateboards and stairs? It's pretty resistant and can be changed when worn down, it's also rather cheap!

I would probably think about putting the grippy strips (like this) on the steps/stairs, just to be safe.
