It is possible to get a good VR capable prebuilt-PC with an i7 and GTX 1070 for $1400/$1500, then the headset for between $250 to $600 depending on which you choose.

EDIT: Added link to PC.

Here's the link for it. After i placed order, the used link disappeared.

much better gpu, 2tb hard drive, dual channel ram, usb 3 on the top instead of usb 2, b360 board instead of a crippled h310 board, though it does look to be using a stock cooler. on sale for 1199 right now but newegg lists it as 1399 msrp so it's a direct competitor to the $1400 pc in the video.

Ibuypower is exactly the type of company that gamers nexus was comparing the walmart pc to, and that is absolutely a better pc for the same price and comes with a (probably shitty) keyboard and mouse. Also there's a chance that ibuypower pc is using an actual name brand, reasonable quality power supply instead of the shitty one that's in the walmart pc but the unit in both should probably be raplaced at some point.

Steve is not ignorant, the dude does this for a living he knows wtf he's talking about. Sure he may have been a little hard on it and part of that may have been due to getting the wrong computer, but this OP pc just doesn't have the same caliber of parts as other similar machines by other system builders, they cut almost every corner possible.

edit: liquid cooler, 1070 ti, 8700k, z370 board, 16gb ram, 240gb ssd, 1tb hdd, wifi. looks to be the normal price but I would take a k chip, 1070 ti, and z370 board for $50 more any day of the week.

8700k, z370 board, ssd, 1tb hdd, 1070, 16gb ram, liquid cooler. this one is on sale from msrp but camelcamelcamel shows it has been hovering around $1400-$1450 for awhile now.

Three years ago I purchased a $2500 gaming laptop. It has been great but now I am stuck building an entire new computer since I cannot upgrade and want to do VR.

I would definitely recommend having a gaming desktop as your daily driver and then having a $500 laptop with a decent CPU and SSD for your mobile computing needs.

Here is a nice pre-built on Amazon that I've been looking at.

u/eugkra33 · 2 pointsr/buildapc

I don't think it's worth it. Video card prices are high, but this still seems off.

Better 6 core CPU with almost the same specs for cheaper

Edit: Or even this

I'm not sure if these have single channel memory in them well or not, but it seems odd to add a 1x16gb. You'd usually want 2x8gb.

u/blocktradz4dayZ · 2 pointsr/wallstreetbets

What is your build? iBuypower had a real nice pre-built setup with a 1070 and liquid cooling on Amazon for only $1500. It’s cheaper than building your own with the same specs. Was thinking of copping one for myself because I have money to spend.

that pretty much is the build, just with different random motherboards and stuff.

Here's the one we were gonna buy but it went out of stock today. All the ones i've been looking at have the stuff i listed with liquid cooling on the CPU + a decent "gaming" motherboard

Went with :https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B078H7WQ8B/ref=od_aui_detailpages00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Has a 1070, an SSD, good ram. Solid specs, no clue if there's better options but ya.

u/RandomGRK · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

Which to choose? Alienware Aurora 1080gtx or Ibuypowerpc 1070?

I'd probably go with the Aurora upgraded to a 1080 for $1500 but it might be up to a 1.5 month wait for it http://deals.dell.com/mpp/productdetail/wx0

Or

I could get this tomorrow for $1500 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B078H7WQ8B/ref=ask_ql_qh_dp_hza

What would you do? Im basically always playing FPS and nearly always Squad. I'm not hardcore but I would love a few years of longevity. Also need to upgrade my 1080p

u/thatsandwizard · 1 pointr/bapccanada

It's the normal price, most prebuilt haven't been effected by mining. I might even consider bumping up to the 8700k model.

https://www.amazon.ca/gp/aw/d/B078H7WQ8B/ref=dp_ob_neva_mobile

Just so you know, if you message ibuypower through amazon you can sometimes get them to swap parts (different cooler, specific gpu model etc.)

u/-TriHill- · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

It is permanently red. I actually usually run everything black and white, but of course I couldn’t be all mismatched for my big reveal :)

Here is the link.

This pc has a much worse CPU but a better GPU, SSD, and 16 gigs of RAM. (Extra money for monitor and keyboard/mouse/headset?)

This PC has an 8th gen i7, a 1060, 16 gigs of RAM, an SSD and an HDD (but no extra monies)

This PC Has a pretty good CPU, a 1060 GPU, an SSD+HDD, but 8gigs of ram. (But is way cheaper so you can install more ram later.

These GPUs definitely can't last 7 years but can easily last 3-4. Personally I would choose the one in the middle if you really want this for 7 years. If you want something 100% future proof for atleast 5 or 6 years, I would choose this: amazing PC with a big SSD, liquid cooling, a 1070ti with 8 gigs of ram, and a 6-core i7-8700k. This PC is similar

Lastly, This PC will meet you in the middle with a 6 gig GPU for a long while, 16 gigs of ram, an SSD, and an i7.

Personally I would choose this one if you really want this for 7 years without breaking the bank.

Again, good luck and let me know if you need anything else. Enjoy!

I'm thinking about just going with this prebuilt for now and swapping the parts I already have into it. I have a good PSU (EVGA 750 G3) and 500gb SSD (Samsung 850 EVO) that I can throw into the prebuilt. I was originally going to go with an i5-8600k and a 1070 for now considering the prices but this gets me a i7-8700k for the same price as their 8600k option, both with a 1070.

Main purpose would be simracing, eventually with VR. Is this a good value at $1400 given the current market for RAM and GPUs?

Here is a parts list I put together. It's not optimized but I built it to compare it to this prebuilt on Amazon.

The Amazon PC comes with a keyboard and mouse, and a copy of Windows as well. Not too long ago the parts list would be like $200-$300 cheaper.

I wouldn't build a computer this way. I would use an R5 1600 instead of the i7, but I just wanted to compare prices.

u/IatemyPetRock · 0 pointsr/buildapc

Say a i7 8700k, 1070 and 16gb of ram PC existed.
I found this one: https://www.amazon.com/iBUYPOWER-Desktop-9200-i7-8700K-Graphics/dp/B078H7WQ8B/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1522506466&sr=8-3&keywords=gtx+1070+i7+7700k&dpID=51etS6wvI7L&preST=_SY300_QL70_&dpSrc=srch

Theres many problems with that. The RAM doesn't look like anything on the market. The case looks completely choked of airflow.

To match it's spec, you end up with a 1600 dollar build.
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/b8PYTB

What that extra 100 dollars pays for is overpriced GPU, better cooling, quality ram and PSU, better case. What your money isnt paying for is the time and service costs they charge you to build it, and what you're losing is the easy one contact warranty service. If a self builder were to do the same things and cheap out on RAM, PSU and Cooling, their build will actually end up cheaper.
