The first one might work. The part that moves the front sight looks a bit large. The Amazon one is listed here http://www.amazon.com/Mosin-Nagant-Range-Buddy-Adjustment/dp/B00HTB32LM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1425492330&sr=8-1&keywords=mosin+sight
If your friend has time, you may want to include him/her in as many of these activities as you can. They're all actually quite fun for someone slightly mechanically-and gun-minded.
As for advice, I'd say hot water and heat (heat gun, hair dryer, etc.) are your best friends. The rear sight does not require any tool to adjust, though the front sight is the one that you'd adjust for horizontal changes (windage). You're probably looking at a sight pusher tool like this one, though I've never personally used one and imagine any similar setup would yield sufficient results.
I know the stocks on the Type 53s can be rough (mine looks like it was actually used in the Korean War, after all), but with a clean bore these can be really sweet shooting rifles. Oh, and stress to your friend that cleaning immediately after shooting corrosive ammunition is non-negotiable.
