The laptop might look good on paper, but I'd skip this model. The listing mentions IPS, but it actually appears to use MSI's "Vivid Color 94%" display, which is a low-quality TN display (as opposed to either an IPS display or a good TN display) with grayish blacks, poor contrast, and very narrow vertical viewing angles, despite its high-gamut backlight. I think you'll notice the difference between a good display and a not-so-good one, before a lot of other things.

  Both of them have the GTX 1060, and much better quality (IPS) displays. The i7-6700HQ vs i7-7700HQ difference I think will be less noticeable than this (unless you have in mind to simply buy that one and swap the display for a good IPS panel).

For video editing, you will need a quad core i7 processor, 8 GB RAM or over, a solid graphic card and nice fast storage. Since weight is not an issue for you, it is recommended that you get a 17 inches laptop as the screen will be bigger and gives you more work area. I see you want to have this laptop for a very long time, and it is on this note that I am going to recommend this Eluktronics P670RP6 Premium VR Ready laptop that not only has a wonderful performance ability, but also has an outstanding build quality. Don't buy origin. ASUS and MSI are both good. Razer is something you can consider for portability. 16GB of RAM is the sweet spot. If you are buying a laptop, make sure to buy one with the 10 series of cards (1060 or 1070). They are MUCH better than the 960m/970m. You definitely want an SSD but it's okay if it has a second HDD (as long as it also has an SSD). I wouldn't buy an AMD laptop currently. Some options for you to consider:

If you're interested in the MSI, maybe look into the same model on Amazon which is on sale for cheaper at $1150. It is still just fine for intensive gaming with identical specs, but 12GB Ram instead of 16 and a 128GB SSD instead of a 256GB SSD. You could always upgrade both in the future for cheaper if you desired to. I thas a lot of value though.

Overall, I'm not sure the jump to a 1070 is that worth it unless you're looking to play some of the most demanding games on the market at higher settings. The 1060 is incredibly powerful though and just fine for most consumers / gamers.

I have been looking for a laptop for a while now, and came across a lot of Sager laptops. I couldn't find much feedback on them, and was worried about heating problems.

Going Kaby Lake is going to be a waste of money for what you want to use the laptop for. Go with a Sky Lake from last year with a 960 or 980M and you will be perfectly happy. I currently have a laptop from 2015 with a Skylake processor and a 960m and I can still play current games without any issues on High. That is also a Skylake with a Pascal GPU, so you dont have to go Kaby Lake to get Pascal, Pascal has been in laptops for quite some time now.

Either version of the above is a good deal right now, don't know how long the sale is gonna last. A 960m may not max it out at 60 fps constantly but should be reasonable. A 1060 mobile version is practically the desktop variant, and should crush the game.

Meanwhile for more there's this MSI. A 1060 with the processors listed should be absolutely fine to max it, and out of all the games that benefit from being installed on the SSD I recommend FF XIV for that. This is definitely more punch than the one you listed while being in that kind of price range or cheaper.

Finally there's this one on Newegg. A smaller and newer brand but if you look around most of the reviews are positive, and it's a much more plain laptop aesthetically which may please you. Also seemingly no bloatware; if you were willing to go for a newer brand without a history one of their laptops might be a good bet, the one I linked is just a starting point.

I know portability weight and stuff is probably a factor to you too, but if you look around trying to find something with the specs of the MSI or Eluktronics ones would be a good bet. The closest I can find is this one. The laptop they have was purchased over a year ago. I don't know the exact model, but that looks similar. Around $1200.

As for battery life, I don't know that they are ever used on battery. I think they purchased laptops since it is easier to pack the Vive into the box and bring a laptop when you are setting up somewhere. (They will bring out a Vive and set up at events/parties/whatever.)

I was also looking at this laptop. If you go to CUK's website, they have a coupon for $100 off this laptop's price at $1250, bringing it down to $1150. However, when I tried to checkout, it was declined. Currently trying to contact them about this.

It was on sale. But the particular laptop is on sale for that price almost half the time. It's an Asus ROG from Newegg.

You never know what the previous owner did with the laptop. Buying A refurbished one is practically buying a used one and issues with laptops aren't always immedeatly apparent, so unless you know the store has great customer service and gives you a long warranty I wouldn't risk it.

I can't give a personal recommendation for a specific, current model. There is no way around doing some research and looking at the models in person. We have a mix of gaming laptops where I work, for QA testing. Our QA lead ranks them from best to worst brand as Razer->Asus->MSI->Alienware, in terms of which he has to get serviced the most, with Asus and MSI being roughly comparable. The Razer laptops with discrete Nvidia chips are great, but big bucks though compared to the MSI and Asus. Worth noting, gaming laptops with discrete graphics tend to be much bulkier than those with intel graphics, and with relatively poor battery life. The Alienware M17x R5 I have next to me for testing is more of a portable computer than a laptop; I wouldn't want to bring it on a plane or to Starbucks like I could with a Macbook or Razer Ultrabook. There are paving stones lighter than this thing, and it's noisy too.
