I think most people aren't as concerned about the power of the system as they are several other strange design choices by Nintendo.

  • Every controller option for the system is VERY expensive, as they all have this new HD Haptic Feedback vibration, as well as gyroscopic sensors. Even the pro controller is forced to have the motion controls built in.
  • Nintendo hasn't ever proved to us that they can handle online play very well, and they want to charge for it. The "free gift" that subscribers get is a one month trial period of a 20-30 old game that becomes unplayable after the month is over. It would be really nice of Nintendo to just allow long-term subscribers to build up a small nes/snes collection as a bonus for supporting them.
  • The voice chat option for online multiplayer is done through our cellphones. This basically confirms that we'll only be able to use voice chat with people on our friends lists. So if we get say, a Monster Hunter game, we won't be able to voice chat with strangers. At that point, we may as well use discord/skype/vent/phone. There's definitely a skip in logic there.
  • I don't think anyone can deny that the launch lineup isn't ideal. Wii's launch lineup featured 21 games. We're six weeks to the Switch's launch date and we have a confirmed 5, 4 of which look really weak. That's even less than Wii U's launch and I honestly thought that it couldn't be worse than that. Granted, Zelda is going to blow everyone's balls off and may just be the best game of all time, but I can't justify buying a console for one game. The only other game coming out this year that remotely excites me is Super Mario Odyssey, which also looks fantastic to be fair, but there just needs to be one or two more killer apps this year. As much as Nintendo might not care to admit it, not everyone is in love with Splatoon.
  • $90 for a second dock is just unreal. It doesn't seem to add any sort of processing power, just an HDMI cable to your TV, a charging station, probably some USB ports, hopefully an ethernet port, but I'm not holding my breath.
  • 1, 2, Switch not being bundled for free with the console is just a bad joke. Who would want to pay $50 for what is essentially Wii Sports?
  • The console comes with two Joy Cons, and no way to charge them outside of plugging them into the switch itself. Being able to turn our consoles on remotely has been a staple of gaming for nearly 12 years now, and that just isn't an option unless we buy one of these. The grip that comes with the system has already been confirmed not to power the Joy Cons, and just acts as a way to hold them more comfortably.
  • Honestly, I've barely seen people complaining at all regarding the graphical power of the system.

>Also add USBC charging to the next joycon grip, thankssssssssssssss.

Nintendo Joy-Con Charging Grip charges via USB-C I believe.

Mmm, I have to be honest with you, I am extremely torn right now re: The Switch.

First, the lack of games is disappointing. I've had a Switch since release day and still have only three games, one of which I technically already owned for Wii U (Mario Kart 8). The only reason I picked up the two physical games I own is because GameStop had a B2G1 Free deal going on that allowed me to get Zelda: BOTW and MK8 Deluxe plus a Pro Controller for less than the normal cost of just the two games.

The only game I am looking forward to on Switch is Mario Odyssey. I was going to pre-order the physical copy of Axiom Verge for Switch, but decided against it when I saw the "Switch Tax" attached to it, which makes all the Switch versions of the game cost $10 more than every other version. Instead of ordering the $29.99 Switch Standard Edition, I got the $19.99 PS4 Standard Edition.

And it isn't just that one game that costs more. I have yet to find a single physical release of an indie game that doesn't cost more on Switch, at least at release.

The cost of accessories for Switch is insane. $70 or $75 for a Pro Controller, $80 for a set of JoyCons (which are the absolute worst excuse for a controller I've ever TRIED to use), $90 for a second dock. Not to mention that you can't even play the Switch in TV mode if your JoyCons die... unless you spend $30 on a JoyCon Charging Grip, which is identical to the non-charging grip that comes with the Switch, except the one that comes with the Switch is just a piece of plastic that doesn't actually charge anything.

Nintendo also just announced a day or two ago that some games will require that you purchase an SD Card to actually get all the content in a game. So, for a game like NBA 2K18, even if you pay $60 for the physical game, you don't actually get to play the entire game unless you actually invest in a separate SD card and download the rest of the game.

As you can see in the articles I linked, Nintendo has even decided to parner with SD card makers to make officially "branded and licensed" Switch SD cards, so they will be making money off SD Card sales, when they could have/should have just included more than 32GB of internal storage in the Switch to begin with. But, hey, why do that when you can provide the absolute bare minimum, then profit from it when people are forced to buy extended storage?

I haven't even had the Switch turned on in almost two months. It likely wont be turned on again until the day Mario Odyssey arrives, and after that, I honestly have no idea when I will use the console again. Maybe when the new Yoshi games comes out... IF that game doesn't require that I pay $60 for it, plus another $40-$100 for an SD card to actually be able to play it.

Remember the GBA Micro? That was the most portable official system that I know of. Everything else from Ninty, SEGA, and Sony have all been beefy compared to that little powerhouse. Too bad it couldn't play GB/C games though...

Granted that's the far other side of the spectrum, and the screen is so itty bitty that there were complaints of seeing everything clearly because of the size.

For the Switch, apparently the dock scratching screens/systems was a fake thing going around, but I still don't know about my concerns for the bulk and the price for accessories. I'd probably need to get the Pro Controller ( ok just checked, not as bad as originally priced, the price came down to ~60USD ), as the Joycon holder looks so uncomfortable for small hands and I'd probably dislocate fingers trying to play it with that.

If I was to use the Joy Cons, it is dumb that you have to spend an extra almost 30 USD just to get a Charging Joycon Grip that should have come with the system so you can keep playing from the couch, in my opinion. Seems dumb to forcibly include these peripherals like Joy Cons and no way to charge them easily if the system is on the dock. You'd need to either buy one of these external chargers for ~23 USD to keep on a table nearby, or stop playing to shove the Joy Cons onto the side rails to charge, or buy another set of Joy Cons for a soaking price of anywhere from 65-87 USD to swap out (granted, these are prices ranging from cheaper colors to wild colors, but still)! Horrible design for a home console.

I want to get a Switch for the upcoming Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate coming out later this year, but I'm still going to wait to see if it comes to the 3DS since if it does, I can play it with my fiance since we both have 3DS units of our own. It just seems really clunky for a portable system and it needs a lot of extra expenses for a home console. I guess I'm in a minority as I prefer my Wii U over the idea of getting a Switch for a home console.

Im confused, me and my gf have been playing for the past few days, Im using the 2 left and right pieces in the grip that came with the game and another set I bought plus (https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B01N33MFPK/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) and its working fine.

Are you saying this isn't working or something else?

u/Maximus-city · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Besides plugging the Cons into the Switch, you can charge them when detached by using the Joy-Con Charging Grip:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N33MFPK/

Note, even though it looks similar it's NOT the same as the Comfort Grip that is packed with the Switch - the Charging Grip naturally has some electronics inside it and is a separate purchase.

u/kd_isme · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Here it is on Amazon:

> Can the dock charge the Switch + JoyCons if it's connected and in sleep mode?

Yes

> Can the JoyCons be charged separately from the Switch? If so, how?

There is only one way you can charge the Joy-Con without connecting them to the Switch. You'll need to purchase the Joy-Con Charging Grip, which is currently sold out.

> If the JoyCons are connected to the Switch, and plugged into a USB-C Charger, does it charge all 3 of them?

Yes. It'll be like you docked the Switch.

u/Reviews2Go · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

This is the one I'm talking about. Like the normal grip but with a charging cable https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-Joy-Con-Charging-Grip/dp/B01N33MFPK

u/BillMii · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I've never heard anyone say that the Joy-cons only charge to half full. For me, they've always charged to full when attached to the console. You should be fine with what you already have.

If you're looking for another option though, I like this charging grip:

https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Joy-Charging-Grip-switch/dp/B01N33MFPK/ref=sr_1_6?keywords=joycon+grip&qid=1556901268&s=gateway&sr=8-6

u/thatonegerrl · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I usually just leave them attached to the switch itself and put it all on the dock to charge. They make an accessory that is a separate dock so you can charge 4 joy-cons at a time:

Nintendo Switch Joy-Con Charging Dock

They also make a joy-con charging grip controller that will keep them charged as you play. It looks very similar to the one that came with the switch, but this one charges the joy-cons instead of just holding them:

Nintendo Joy-Con Charging Grip Controller

I have included some links to Amazon so you can check them out.

u/pretenderist · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Or just put the joycons on the Switch and play handheld.

u/MildlyShadyPassenger · 2 pointsr/gadgets

Unless you HATE the feel of the joycons, you can always get a charging grip and use that as your controller.

Although if you're looking to increase your total controller count rather than swap 1:1 that would actually be the more expensive route.

u/YagamiYakumo · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Eh, I don't know. Nintendo literally sell this when it's A) something that could/should be included to begin with and B) frankly speaking, I can't really imagine there's much of a demand for it due to the questionable usefulness. With that said, I think it's safe to say the demand for an official dpad joycon as an optional accessories is definitely way higher than that.

u/JoshuaJSlone · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

The simplest way is simply to swap which pair is on your system once in a while.

Alternately, you could get something like the charging grip for the second pair, or the charging dock where two pairs can be connected and charging.

u/The_Skeptic_One · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

The Pro Controller?

I'm not sure what you're asking.

Or something like a Joycon grip?

u/Lorben · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I just tested this out and while (surprisingly) it does click in on the opposite side, it does not charge.

So you would either need to get that fixed, get a joycon charging grip or a joycon charging dock.

u/TemptedTemplar · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Id go the joycon pair and another plastic or charging grip. Just so they both have the same kind of controllers. And it would set them up for four player games that can use single joycons as a controller.

The grip is not required to use the joycons, but if they are used to holding normal game controllers, the grip would be more comfortable.

The Plastic one is identical to the one that comes with the system. While the charging grip has a USB-C port and USB-C cable that allows you to charge the joycons while not attached to the sides of the system.

u/ajaxsirius · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

This is the accessory he's talking about: https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Joy-Charging-Grip-switch/dp/B01N33MFPK/

If you want to play Mario Party or 1-2 Switch with the Switch Lite you'll have to buy a set of joycons, and the charging grip i linked in order to charge them. Which is why Nintendo has flat out said the Lite is incompatible with those kinds of games.

u/MoldyCat · 1 pointr/Switch

I too just bought a switch the other day (finally found one).

Here is what I have bought (so far):

[A Stand]
(https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LZAYH58/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) needed? Maybe not, but I won't always have my screen with me to tote around.

Charge grip The grip that currently comes with the switch does not charge. I am ok with the switch's controllers, but do not like the idea of sliding it down on the screen every time they needed charged. I can't see me getting a "pro controller" but that is an option.

[This cable] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B073JJB3DB/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) I played all day Sunday, and noticed the switch was over heating. This cable allows for the switch not need to dock. Needed? No, but teaming this up with the stand and this means I should not have over heating issues.

And then I got these grips because the match my controllers, and I wanted that "back" hump for better grip.

Why grips and charge grip? Well I modded the charge grip already, are removed the plastic built-around.

I also bought a screen protector, the tampered glass one, for the screen, but I got that at a store.

To many case options out there, I got lucky a found a Zelda BotW special edition when they came out, so I have that. As for mobile charging, no help there.

u/oonniioonn · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

Of course. They sell a slightly different version separately, that will let you charge your Joy-con: https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-Joy-Con-Charging-Grip/dp/B01N33MFPK

What if you're using that ridiculous joy-con charging grip?

u/TheSingingBrakeman · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

Checking on Bestbuy, I found both the charging grip (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/nintendo-joy-con-charging-grip/5730706.p?skuId=5730706) which'll charge your joycons as you or your friend play, and an off-brand version for a very reasonable price (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/powera-comfort-grip-for-nintendo-joy-con-controllers-black/5729901.p?skuId=5729901).

The charging grip is also available on Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-Joy-Con-Charging-Grip/dp/B01N33MFPK/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1497755536&sr=8-3&keywords=joycon+grip), as is the non-charging off-brand grip (https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-Joy-Con-Comfort-Grip-Black/dp/B01MS7YUA7/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1497755536&sr=8-4&keywords=joycon+grip).

It's pretty weird that you can't buy a standalone Nintendo-brand non-charging grip, isn't it?

u/kemitche · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

Not sure what the Power A one is. Was talking about this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N33MFPK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_Ck0-zbCAZA9T8

u/PatyRick · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

Hello! I just got my Switch and this charging grip

I know the switch itself has issues with 3rd party chargers/cables but does the same apply to the joycons? Can I use any USB-C cable to charge this? I'm worried about getting the included cable mixed with my others

u/chrisrico · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

>And once I have a second controller, how the hell do I charge it? Do I need to buy a charger for it too?

It's a more expensive option, but I'd recommend a second pair of JoyCons and one of these. It's more comfortable to hold and has a USB port for charging the second pair of controllers.
