For Science fiction in general, I would suggest starting watching Stargate Sg-1, but it turns out that it's free if you already have prime! The first season starts out a little rocky, but it gets really good pretty fast. If you can't stand the first episode, just start with Stargate Atlantis.
I saw you had a 101 Dalmatians game (well, 102), and remembered a point and click that my friends had that was really fun at the time. Note, that it only works on windows 95.
Finally, I just want to recommend The Curse of Monkey Island. It's humor and whit are unmatched by any except the first Monkey Island™ game. It's the third in the Monkey Island™ series, but it's the one I like to start people on because I like it's art the best and it's the first with voices.
As for me, for just under $30, I have a Nintendo GBA Flash Cart, or for just over $30 I have a Baofeng HAM Radio, to get started on a new hobby.

I'm the OP of the discussion /u/sharpfork linked you to. I hope you read this before buying a SuperCard from anybody online. The company stopped producing these some years ago, and as a result TONS of fakes/clones flooded the market. In some cases, these clones worked pretty well. However, nothing beats the original.
The differences between even the best clones and the original cartridges has shown over the years that the originals hold up better. There is an Amazon seller who has some of the originals left. This is where mine came from:

Yes, the first Supercards were actually GBA devices. You can't use the one I linked though - that device requires a card to be inside the top slot of a Nintendo DS to boot up. You'd probably have to hit up eBay or Amazon.
