Amazon has it at this price right now, normally it's $44.99 on there.

What about the SSDs?

SSDs are essential part of modern PCs

Pair an Intel nuc with 4GB of ram and an ssd for only $194.66. You don't really need to be building at that price range.

u/andysaurus_rex · 4 pointsr/buildapc

Besides sounding like fapseed, which is hilarious, I have never heard of this brand. I would pay a bit more and get a pair of these instead. I have one in my PC and can personally vouch for its speed. http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Internal-120GB-2-5-Inch-SDSSDA-120G-G25/dp/B00S9Q9UKS/ref=sr_1_5?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1449424745&sr=1-5&keywords=SSD

u/dweller_12 · 3 pointsr/hardwareswap

These go for less new, you're looking at around $30 at most. Also, buyers appreciate seeing a Crystal Disk Image screenshot of the drive to ensure it's healthy.

u/ValgarLienheart · 3 pointsr/pcmasterrace

Go for the equivalent Sandisk Plus for the same price.

Yes it will fit, tust don't buy that SSD

http://www.anandtech.com/show/7763/an-update-to-kingston-ssdnow-v300-a-switch-to-slower-micron-nand

The reviews are not actually representative of what you might. The reason being that everywhere did their reviews of the model of drive after it was released and then Kingston switched to slower NAND memory which performs vastly slower than you would see in reviews. In some cases the figures are 1/4 of what they were presented to be in review models and the first batch received to consumers.

Yes it's faster than a traditional hard drive, but out of principle the V300 models are worth avoiding as you can get other brands that will be better performing.

http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Internal-120GB-2-5-Inch-SDSSDA-120G-G25/dp/B00S9Q9UKS/ref=sr_1_5?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1450209875&sr=1-5&keywords=ssd

Something like that would be better.

I would also add that if you are going the windows route that you consider something a little larger. I have a dual hard drive setup in my Dell E6330 and the primary drive is 120gb and it's just a little too small for general use. It's not a major problem but if you have anyway reasonable collection of family photos on the computer you'll probably find you don't have a lot of spare space. Additionally, as SSD drives work best when not rammed to capacity having a little overhead in terms of available really makes a speed difference. I've tried and seen the degradation in performance to know.

u/calexil · 3 pointsr/linuxmint

you can get a 120gb for like 40 bucks

it will improve your computing experience IMMENSELY

You do not need a cpu cooler. The locked i5 will come with one. You should show the psu and case as well so you can get feedback.

Looking at the build, in general it is fine. However, GTX 950 really is on the lower end of what you should get. 700€ does allow you to get a 200€ card:

I left some money over by picking a H110 board as well (instead of a B150m board with 4 ram slots, which I'd normally switch) to enable you to wait and get the RX 480 at the end of the month, instead of the R9 380X.

u/UINT_MAX · 2 pointsr/buildapc

Looks good, but I cannot stress enough how much you will benefit from an SSD. I'd say ditch the OS and find a way to get it for free (like through your high school, university, or other ways) and use that money for a 120GB SSD for your boot drive and open world games like Skyrim.

For example, you could ditch the OS and buy this SSD: https://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-120GB-2-5-Inch-SDSSDA-120G-G25-Version/dp/B00S9Q9UKS/ref=sr_1_6?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1469133001&sr=1-6&keywords=120+gb+ssd

Then use the remaining $60 on your GPU and you should be able to buy a GTX 1060 or RX 480.

u/Claireah · 1 pointr/buildapc

Yeah, I don't have the money to upgrade the entire thing right now.

Also, I forgot to add my SSD to the list. This is the one I have.

u/woohakka · 1 pointr/buildapcsales

This ssd would absolutely work in a laptop. Don't listen to phamily_man, the guy has no idea what he's talking about. There is no reason why this ssd would only be limited to desktop use. If you don't believe me, check out these reviews on amazon by people who installed this ssd into their laptops with no problem. Personally, I would go for an ssd with more capacity. But if you don't plan to use much space, then this is perfectly fine.

Edit: One word of caution. Some have reported that these ssds have a problem booting up if you cloned the drive. If you are doing a fresh reinstall of the os then you should be fine though.

u/Jaredivin · 1 pointr/buildapc

This seems to be the best price to performance SSD around right now. http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-2-5-Inch-Internal-MZ-75E250B-AM/dp/B00OAJ412U/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1449708962&sr=1-1&keywords=ssd
Just about every build I've seen is putting it in. Its only $18 more then the one you have with double the storage and apparently better performance. http://ssd.userbenchmark.com/Compare/SanDisk-Ultra-II-240GB-vs-Samsung-850-Evo-250GB/2548vs2977

if you cant swing the extra money, the regular Sandisk plus (non ultra) is ~$15 cheaper
http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Internal-120GB-2-5-Inch-SDSSDA-120G-G25/dp/B00S9Q9UKS/ref=sr_1_5?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1449708962&sr=1-5&keywords=ssd
although 120gb is pushing it pretty close as your only storage.

Also, I was advised through Tomshardware when I built my first PC (sub 500 budge) to just go with an AMD APU (cpu and gpu in case unfamiliar) as its much cheaper and you could save or put the money in other places.

heres a comparison between the i3 you have listed and a higher end AMD APU.

http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Core-i3-3250-vs-AMD-A10-7850K

I've never posted in here so I'm not sure if there's much bias against AMD parts in here.

u/mnixxon · 1 pointr/htpc

Here's how I built mine. It's completely silent and performance wise, this thing is awesome.

DS81 - approx. $188

Crucial 16GB RAM - approx. $94

Intel I3 CPU - approx. $118

Scan Disk 120GB SSD - approx. $45

Total Cost - approx. $445 (this system is over built. 8GB of ram is probably sufficient, and the SSD could be smaller/cheaper)

Software

Install Kodibuntu

I would recommend going with a SSD to go with your build to install windows on. The performance increase is worth the price and it's better to get one now than go through the hassle of installing one later : http://www.amazon.co.uk/SanDisk-PLUS-Sata-2-5-inch-Internal/dp/B00S9Q9UKS/ref=sr_1_5?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1453643692&sr=1-5&keywords=ssd

u/DarkZyth · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

Seriously if you can use an extra £30-£40 it is worth getting a 120GB SSD just for your OS and certain programs/games. Something like this. I have the 500GB Samsung 850 EVO and it's as smooth as butter. Programs load faster, Windows 10 starts faster, games load faster, everything is faster. It's a no brainer if you can spare the extra funds.

However if you don't want it I guess it's fine not to get it. Just get one sometime down the line. It's a very big upgrade imo.

The SSDNow V300 is one of the worst SSD's available.

I'd get the Sandisk SSD Plus if all you've got to spend is 40$, but if you can stretch to 50$ i'd recommend the HyperX Fury

u/Grineflip · 1 pointr/techsupport

I have very limited funds and will be using this laptop for only school work and watching netflix anyway. The SSD I was looking at has the dimensions 0,7 x 10,1 x 7 cm. Would that make it a 7mm drive?
I found it here: http://www.amazon.it/SanDisk-SDSSDA-120G-G25-Memoria-Stato-Solido/dp/B00S9Q9UKS/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8#productDetails
I will buy from Italy because I just moved to Italy. It says S-ATA 600. I am not quite sure what that's supposed to mean.

You can try these three links (prices in $).
1, 2, 3

And these two links (prices in £) 1, 2

Hopefully something listed there is what you're looking for. Just make sure the MHz of the RAM matches up to what your computer requires so it doesn't cause any weird issues (rare, but it happens).

Your current 4GB isn't bad though, for general purpose usage. Your harddrive is likely the slowest component in your computer currently. Since the computer uses DDR2, it probably has a small harddrive anyway which would make it easy to clone everything over to an SSD such as this one here for £35. Link.

That is, of course, assuming that the computer uses SATA and not IDE/PATA for the harddrive. If it does use IDE/PATA, you can also just buy a IDE to SATA adapter to make it work. Not the optimal configuration, but it can be made to work well enough.

Would this Sandisk SSD be a better replacement?

u/Inquebiss · 1 pointr/buildapc

OP also had a SSD, and could get a smaller one for considerably cheaper and still stay in budget.

u/NativityCrimeScene · 1 pointr/AppleWhatShouldIBuy

Crucial 16gb Mac RAM (8gb is only like $12 cheaper)

Samsung 850 EVO 500gb SSD (excellent SSD at a mid-level price)

SanDisk Plus 120gb SSD (cheap SSD that'll work fine)

I hope that helps! I have a 2010 white unibody Macbook that was upgraded to 8gb RAM and a 256gb SSD and it's still very fast at web browsing and basic tasks like that.

u/5had0w5talk3r · 1 pointr/linuxmasterrace

Jesus Christ, that is one of the worst cases I've read yet. Makes me glad I don't have to deal with it anymore. lol

These SSDs might be what you're looking for.

Honestly, once you're over on Linux, everything is so much simpler. Take a day or two to set it up and you'll be set.

u/bog_ · 1 pointr/arma

You can install a SSD alongside your current HDD, then use the SSD for things which you'd like higher performance in; games, large programs etc.

Something like this or this is quite affordable and will give many times the performance of any hdd you could buy.

u/SpaceDudeTaco · 1 pointr/hardwareswap

is it this ?

u/MechaCoffeeBean · 1 pointr/buildapc

Any H110 mobo with the ports you need will be suitable.

SSD, £2 more.

u/bennettsaucyman · 1 pointr/buildapc

Yea, that hard drive would drive me absolutely nuts. So slow. I would get a small cheap 120gb SSD to just store your applications and operating system. Example: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00S9Q9UKS/?tag=pcpapi-20

Then you can use a trial version of windows and reinstall windows. You can always also find some free program that will then give you full access to windows with the trial version.
