If you can't afford ANR's get a solid set of David Clarks that don't have it, and a set of ear plugs such as these. The DC headsets are rated to reduce noise levels up to I want to say 28Db and the sonic defender ear plugs work awesome while retaining the ability to hear normal speaking tones. It works great for me.
