How did we go from "I feel a .22 would be too loud and could potentially end up in someone's backyard" to "go get a .50 cal, man!"? :-)

You do not say what your range will be. If you are sub 30 yards, you might look at the Crosman Custom Shop. A 2400KT CO2 Air Rifle with a 14.6" Lothar Walther barrel in .22 Caliber will run you about $150.00. (Order on Friday for free shipping). A simple moderator off Ebay will run another $30.00. You can put the balance in a scope and you will have a nice, quiet gun that will be deadly for squirrel and rat size game and smaller.

I have this exact gun with a cheaper scope. It is fun to shoot and gets about 25 shots at an average of 491 fps (8.4 fpe) per CO2 cartridge with JSB Exact Jumbo Diablo 15.89 pellets. Groups are 5/8" to 3/4" at 20 yards.

Good Luck,

Traqker

I don't have that exact scope, but I do prefer the 6-24 x50 for long range plinking and have several cheap scopes in that size.

That being said, I personally prefer the sidewheel focus and seriously wish all my scopes had it. I'll probably go with this scope next: https://www.amazon.com/UTG-4-16X44-Scope-36-color-Mil-dot/dp/B005NHA122

Wish it was 24x but I can't have it all in my current hobby budget. Lol

So this is cheaper than your budget, by a lot... But you may be happy with it.

You can grab a Thompson Center Compass right now for $285-300 and free shipping in a range of calibers. And then you get a $75 mail in rebate from them so it's $225 + transfer fee. It has an adjustable trigger, the barrel is threaded, and it comes with a cheap scope that no one likes (except as a 22 throw away). These retail for $300-400 without a scope and they've been reviewing pretty well. They're guaranteed to be minute of angle shooting, or they'll replace it.

I just bought one in 6.5 creedmoor and I ordered one of these scopes to try out with it. It's a 4-16x $115 mil dot, dual color illumination, nitrogen sealed waterproof scope with adjustable parallax with lots of favorable reviews. They're made to take the recoil of a spring gun (which is apparently much higher than standard rifle calibers).

I picked up the creedmoor rifle, that scope, a large parallax adjustment wheel, a bipod, and a bubble level for the scope for $435.11, and I still have a $75 rebate I'll be able to cash in against that total (plus a toy scope I can probably sell or trade). It's farly light, I can screw my can on the end out of the box, I wont mind carrying it in the field letting it get beat up a bit, and it's a fully setup creedmoor with MOA guarantee.

In regards to what I'm reading about the rifle, people are saying you're not going to win any 1k yd shooting tournaments with it, but it has no problem banging steel at 500yds and I have seen numerous posts showing 100yd targets with dime-size groups. And it leaves a lot of money in the end for ammo, targets, binos, or any other toys.
