It's a vinyl skin. I have the same one. It's great quality if you're interested. I've had mine on my switch for about four months and it's great. It also comes with a skin for the dock that's pretty sweet.

I also got the Hori and i actually like the D-Pad, but its certainly a different feel.
Few days ago a did my first shell swap of the original joy cons and i'm quite happy with the results.

This is the shell i used , but you can also get them cheaper on their own website, with shiiping from china.

Only slight drawback for me, is the rubbery "soft touch" surface, that feels more slippery to me than the original joy con shells.

The two cutouts on the bottom are for the front-facing speakers, which are necessary in order to not block the sound from coming out.

I live in a really dusty area, so I understand your pain.

I have one of these and like it. It's large enough to accommodate a docked Switch but works just as well for the dock itself. There's a cheaper one that should do the same thing.

One thing I haven't found domestically but bought when I imported a few other things was this set of dust catchers from Japan. It has a bunch of port caps, an insert for the dock, and even caps for the joy-con rails on the system itself. It looks like there's some Chinese knock offs on eBay that could work if importing is too pricey for a single item.

The combo of both work really well in the dust bowl I call home but the covers alone should suffice for most people.

I know that's not what you asked for, but if you need protection for the thumbsticks, here's what I found on another forum :

This is the actual set I bought for $18, simply because I own a Switch, and it would cover all of my needs.
I like using the tallest ones in order to extend the thumbstick throw, and for easy identification when grabbing them off of the desk while in VR I use a red one on the right controller and a blue on on the Left controller.

The main thing to remember is to get ones made specifically for the Nintendo Switch, and NOT for the PS4 or XBox.
The Switch ones are smaller, have a nice tight fit on the thumbsticks, and don't spin around due to being too loose like PS4/XBox ones would.
It's almost as if they were made for the WMR controllers."

Save your money and buy the hyperkin thumbsticks. You get 4 inside the pack, 2 diff surface types and 2 diff hight sizes. And it's like 10$ compared to the super pricey kontrolfreak stuff.

Is there a grip like that for when the joycons are attached to the switch? I thought for sure someone would make something like what I had for vita and 3ds.

Keep your specific needs in mind. Do you want a case that will allow your Switch to fit inside the dock? Do you use tabletop mode often and want your Joy-Cons to be easily detachable? Do you want a case that will cover your screen when not in use? Do you want your case to give you extra grip while holding it in handheld mode? Do you prefer hard plastic or is silicone acceptable? How important is it that the buttons remain uncovered? Etc.

There are none announced right now, and no one knows when nintendo will make a new one.

For $13 you can swap out the grips in an assortment of colors. Theres a single phillips screw holding on each one, so theyre really easy to change.

For a little more color and intensive work, you can change out the whole shell and buttons for $24

The clear joycons from extremerate feel almost like plexiglass. Very solid. I've been using it the last week and they feel pretty good. The non transparent shells have a soft coating so holding them very really nice. Was using my light blues for a year and never had an issue. Done 6 sets of swaps and definitely preferred these extremerate ones over basstop or extreme console which my my xenoblade set.
