It's actually real easy. When I built the bed I purchased [these] (http://www.amazon.com/ShadeSox-Universal-Shade-Protects-Included/dp/B00YI3IGA6?ie=UTF8&keywords=car%20window%20shade&qid=1458941483&ref_=sr_1_5&sr=8-5) off of Amazon. They provide some privacy, keep the sun out, and most importantly, allow us to let breeze through the windows while keeping bugs out.
Additionally, I purchased [this] (http://www.amazon.com/OxGord%C2%AE-Frost-Guard-Windshield-Cover/dp/B01AOHYT50?ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00) to black out the front. Both items have been perfect for camping so far!
They also make stuff like this that you just put over your windshield at night and it prevents frost from forming.
I think I found it!
Many products popping up that use this same concept. Some of the better ones use magnets to stay in place. This one doesn't but it's $5
https://www.amazon.ca/17529-Subzero-Heavy-Duty-ArcticGuard-Windshield/dp/B00F5VX3U8?th=1&psc=1&source=googleshopping&locale=en-CA&tag=googcana-20&ref=pd_sl_4doog8k2vq_e
It also fucks with the springs that hold your wipers to the windshield causing less tension on the blades. This in turn causes wipers that will jump over snow and ice and will leave streaks in the rain.
Plastic bags are better and if you want to make it super easy, get something like this: https://www.amazon.ca/Windshield-Snow-Cover-Protector-Car-Van-SUV/dp/B019T9KEOE
haha ditto - Electricity is $.12/kWh (in my area) and I run mine for 4 hours so it costs $.48 per night.
I also got a Windshield cover that hooks around your mirrors (elastic straps) so I don't have to scrape my windshield in the morning. Ill link to one available on Amazon, its not the exact model as I got mine from Costco with the mirror covers as well (never use em) but not everyone has a Costco or is a member. As such I cant vouch for durability of the below just that it is of similar design.

[Frostblocker] (http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00OZ42J4C/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1453541192&sr=8-1&pi=SY200_QL40&keywords=Frostblocker&dpPl=1&dpID=41gpeJW161L&ref=plSrch)
I don't POV, but I have a cover that works great for that purpose. Just lays over the windshield with elastic straps over the side mirrors. It's similar to this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00OZ42J4C/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_pHniyb6QBRFDH
I suggest you buy good quality winter gear over lots of winter gear.
my top favorites are my:
For staying warm at home / keeping the heating bill low I love:
for snow activities:
for hats, mittens, and gloves:
Those brands (LL Bean, Patagonia, Eddie Bauer) are well worth their price tag for longevity of the articles and their effectiveness (and with Black Friday coming up you can get excellent deals). For example, I have had my Bean boots just shy of 10 years before I finally pulled the trigger and bought some new ones. **also I suggest you look around local thrift stores for quality gently used products**
for your car:
a windshield cover, a decent ice scraper, and my personal favorite a snobrum. If you are unfamiliar with driving in snow an emergency car shovel like this would not be a bad idea either.

Where do you live that 2" was enough to kill a mall??? I got 3 or 4 yesterday and I was more annoyed by other drivers than anything.
Also since you live somewhere snowy, I think you need this on your wishlist! I have one and it makes my life so much easier in the morning before work!
/u/Mynthe, make the snow go away!!!

This is what I use, and it saves me from having to scrape my windshield or from having to clean off my mirrors. I love it: Windshield Cover on Amazon
I used this product last winter with good results: http://www.amazon.com/J-H-Smith-Company-Snow-Cover/dp/B004ETGQKG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1382367539&sr=8-1&keywords=Car+Snow+Cover
They should make windshield tarps for this. Though after saying that you know someone has.
Edit. Like this
Good luck with that. I do believe that there are "windshield blankets" that allow you to simply lift off any ice and snow that have accumulated along with the blanket itself, but otherwise, short of parking in a garage, or at the very least under a shelter, you are probably out of luck.
https://www.amazon.com/icescreen-DeluxePLUS-All-Windshield-Mirrors/dp/B01ELPBDKA/ref=mp_s_a_1_1_sspa?
We found ours on sale for $25.
We also tried cheaper options and they were terrible. Wouldn’t stay on the car and froze to the windshield lol.
These help amazingly with the windshield. Gf got me one years ago and I cant remember the last time I chipped ice off the windshield.
Here ya go. I've had these recommended before. They slip over the windows like a sock and apparently work pretty well. They are in my amazon cart at the moment.
Yes! I putting together shopping carts now but waiting for possible Black Friday deals. I've been told thin layers (preferably not soley cotton), a long mid-range quality parka, headwear, wool items where you can, mittens, gloves, and nice quality snow boots. Sounds like a snowblower is a must and I've seen windshield covers that allow for quick removal of snow. Any value in them?ALTITACO Car Windshield Snow Cover, Frost Guard Protector, Magnetic Windshield Snow Frost Ice Cover Sunshade Snow Covers with Elastic Hooks Fits Most Car, SUV, Truck, Van or Automobile with 83"x49.2" https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07W4LF4VZ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_sMg0DbYKYPATB
Fuck scraping.... Get this.

Also, have a mechanic test your coolant to ensure you have the right antifreeze.
Welcome!

It uses your car windows to hold it in place.
Ice screen cover: https://www.amazon.com/iceScreen-Magnetic-Windshield-Frost-Standard/dp/B00PKK3KZW
They also make mirror covers
I highly recommend buying something like: http://www.amazon.com/JH-Smith-Car-Snow-Cover/dp/B004ETGQKG
It saved me a TON of time and it was easy to take on and off (especially versus a full car cover).
Pick up one of these. Put it on over night and it helps keep the larger ice and snow off your windshield. Depending on the car you usually need about 10 mins of idle to get it warm enough to melt the snow. Engines warm up faster when you drive them so once you can see out of the windows clearly start driving and you'll get heat faster.
I would not expect them to be great in the summer. Just not designed for that purpose.
What I have is [Hopkins Heavy-Duty ArcticGuard Snow and Ice Windshield Cover] (https://www.amazon.com/Hopkins-17529-SubZero-ArcticGuard-Windshield/dp/B00F5VX3U8). It was cheap enough to try and it was worth 10 bucks to not have to scrape my windshield as much in the winter. You can see the side mirror covers, which also help keep it in place. It takes a couple tries to install it the first time, but after you know how it works, you're in good shape.
Moisture won't get between the cardboard and glass. It'll all hit the outside of the cardboard. They actually manufacture windshield covers that you can just pull off in the morning and have an absolutely clear windshield.

For anyone who relates unironically to this post
This is one of the better car-cessories I've gotten recently. Only truly useful if you are in a Northern climate, but I sure do appreciate.
<10$ : [This] (http://www.amazon.com/Dove-Care-Clean-Ounce-Count/dp/B002TSA90W/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1394593008&sr=8-2&keywords=dove+men), I've fallen in love with Dove soap, and I've just run out of the body wash. Need some smooth skin after this snow storm that's coming in
Build a bed platform. https://imgur.com/a/R6zTX mine is just held in by 2 cam straps. Comes in and out in 10 minutes. You can build for 1 or 2. If you're 2 I recommend a roof box. USB fan is awesome with an usb power bank. Van blanket for bed which is easily washable. Screensfor windows $15.
How many miles does it have on it? In a rough order. I'd stop at replace belts. Oil change, new battery, spark plugs, transmission fluid change, radiator flush, replace belts, alignment, new tires, replace alternator, replace starter.
Invest in a remote starter.
Use a spray de-icer.
Cover your windows with a sheet or window cover when not driving.
My dad bought me something similar to this for Christmas a few years ago - it works very well if you remember to put it on. If you do have to park outside it's very nice to just take off the cover and not have to scrape or clear snow, now you just have to figure out where to store it! https://www.amazon.com/Ice-King-Universal-Magnetic-Windshield/dp/B01BE5Q4FY/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1506434885&sr=8-3&keywords=windshield+cover
Different approach, but a windshield cover like this may work well for you.
> scraping ice
ew no.
Why do people not just use windshield covers? http://www.amazon.com/Delk-FrostGuard-Winter-Windshield-Cover/dp/B00OZ42J4C
I'm also going to make my own door/window covers out of bubble wrap. It will have tabs that you can just shut in the doors and it will keep the doors and windows from freezing.
I just bought one of these: https://www.amazon.com/iceScreen-Magnetic-Windshield-Frost-Standard/dp/B00PKK3KZW/ref=sr_1_4?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1510938777&sr=1-4&keywords=ice+shield+for+windshield&dpID=51V1KE1jvDL&preST=_SX300_QL70_&dpSrc=srch
Or just buy a windshield cover.
http://www.amazon.com/Auto-Expressions-5048114-Warrior-Windshield/dp/B000BYRHIS
This is a waste, just get a windshield cover
Never have ice on your windshield again.
get one of these https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B01AOHYT50/ref=sspa_dk_detail_5?psc=1
