I feel ya on hiking or doing any activities with complainers. He's a grown-ass man, he should be capable of remedying some of these issues w/o complaining. Communicate this to him, though a bit more nicely. Honey, vinegar, flies.

For example:

> He hasn't had a shower

It adds weight, but it might be worthwhile to take a portable gravity shower so that he can use water on-site for a rinse off.

> It's too hot

Hat, cooling towel, etc.

> There are too many bugs biting him

You're in Michigan, it's hard to get away from bugs even when you're in the suburbs. Permethrin is a very effective repellent. Prep some clothes with this, and that should help a tons.

> He ran out of beer/whiskey

Ration. Geez. A flask of whiskey should be enough to last a night or two.

> His pack is too heavy (even though it isn't...)

If he nixed beer, that'd help a tons.

If you get there like ridiculously early to avoid the MENTAL queues, you'd probably be alright as it'll be clean.

I know some people like HAVE to shower but there are alternatives. The one i've done the last few years which have worked decent is towel sized wetwipes + a solar shower - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Milestone-Camping-Solar-Shower-Litres/dp/B00BJGWE6M/ref=sr_1_7?keywords=solar+shower&qid=1570448595&sr=8-7

Portable, low-cost...I like it.

However, for anything approaching a decent shower, you'll be constantly refilling that bottle.

I still prefer one of these. Mine heats up to about 105-110 degrees in about 2 hours of sunlight:

It's simple really. Our camp brings a plastic kiddie pool, we put up 4 poles and wrap a tarp around them. Hang a shower bag from the top (connect two of the top pieces for hanging ability) with about 1 gallon of water and go to town. Dump the kiddie pool in the grey water pool when done (place it next to the shower), or pump it out into a barrel. You can make something like this for like 20 bucks.

If you are super nervous about people seeing you in the buff, derobe and change within the tarp.

Got this one last time I was camping. It was great! Awesome for washing hands and rinsing off. Had to put it in the shade because the water got too warm. If there aren't trees to hang it from you can set it on top of your car. http://www.amazon.com/Gallon-Solar-Camp-Shower/dp/B000NQLNZC

Thanks for the tips. I did use baby wipes when I biked to work a few years ago. The problem now is with grappling sports I have to worry about staph, ringworm and other nasties.. I decided to get Defense Soap Wipes, a battery powered portable shower and Bronner's Tea Tree soap to fight the bad stuff. It'll be weird washing down but I'll just park my car on the lowest level of the structure, lol.

Dude that's awesome... making a mental note of your ideas! Especially the LED projector. Excellent.

Hot water might prove pretty damn challenging as it's a massive electrical power demand. If this is a summer camper, building a curved hot water tank into the roof with black paint like a solar shower might do the trick on a sunny day, but it won't work when the sun's not out.

On boats, we typically use some of the waste engine heat to warm a hot water tank for free, it's a shame there's no way to do that with a road vehicle (it would work for a full-time RV where the plumbing is permanent but not for something being hitched + unhitched so far back from the engine block).

To be honest, cold running water plus a small gas stove with a kettle is probably the only practical way to do this. Gas has the ridiculous energy density you need. Batteries don't. And without a shower, do you ever actually need more than a camping kettle's worth of hot water?

Side note: a water pressure pump may actually be a bad idea. OP is pretty heavily limited on the water tank capacity. It turns out (again, know this from boat design) that fitting pressurised water increases consumption many times more than just having taps with foot-pump action. We are naturally far more careful to only use what we need when pumping by hand!

Just a recommendation:

Those bags are very heavy when filled. If you don't have anything to attach it to you're fucked. Also, no guarantee of hot water, I posted this in /r/Reddaroo, here's my slightly more expensive solution:

~$20 hot water pump

5 gallon collapsible container

Make sure the container you get has a big enough opening for the water pump. Or just cut a whole in the container and recycle it before you leave the farm :)

You'll need a few items:

Privacy Shelter 1
OR
Privacy Shelter 2

Solar Shower

I'd recommend being conservative with the water use to avoid mud, aside from that, you should be set!

My friend recommends bringing a personal shower to camping festivals: http://www.amazon.com/Premium-5-gallon-Includes-Removable-Switchable/dp/B0147AZT1S/ref=zg_bs_3401561_8
