I went onto amazon found the toy for $10 you can buy replacements for $5 Link

(Also TIL about chewy.com)

u/NotSafeForShop · 11 pointsr/funny

I thought, man, this really reads like an ad. Then I clicked your link, which is a tracking redirect, and it has a referal ID hanging off the end of the Amazon link.

For anyone who doesn't enjoy being tricked by people to make money for them by pretending to be regular redditor, here is a direct link without the referral. (It's catnip mouse toys, btw.)

In fact, this account does this on a regular basis when looking at its history. Always a link to ammoscanner.com that redirects to the same Amazon affiliate ID (3917-20), and never with disclosure.

Agreed on including some wet food, and males are especially prone to urinary problems so get that extra water in wherever you can!

I have a 9.5lb female (so probably smaller than your cat will be if it's a Maine Coon :P) who gets about 2oz - just under half of a 5.5oz can - of wet food twice a day, 12 hours apart. At the end of the night, I give her about 30 pieces of kibble hidden all over her tower, in toys, in her carrier, and in a kibble ball just to keep her busy when I go to bed.

I add water to her wet food to boost her hydration even though she's a good drinker if she's had dry food. When I lived with a middle aged male cat who already had kidney failure and constipation, I would make his wet food into a soup and luckily he ate it right up. I'm a big fan of taking advantage of wet food to get them to drink as much as possible even if the resulting soup looks nasty. :P

In my experience, grain-free foods (and lower carb/higher protein in general) have led to smaller poops and more satiety. I don't mind feeding wet foods that contain some rice, but I avoid corn like the plague because I found those made for the stinkiest poops. I got my cat as a student, so I took to feeding the Petsmart brand Grreat Choice's pates and cases of Friskies pates from CostCo and Petsmart's Simply Nourish kibble. All very affordable and pretty good quality especially for their prices, but I throw in some splurge brands like Petcurean Go! to mix it up too.

Firstly, make sure to post pictures when you bring him/her home!

Siamese cats are very smart, and that means they bore easily. My kitten (~9mo) loves to play fetch or with the feathers on a stick because we are interacting with him and paying attention to him while he plays. But really, each of my Siamese cats (like all cats) has had his or her own favorite toy, so get little things here and there as you see them and just note what yours likes! These are my kitten's favorite. He is seriously obsessed. I get them much cheaper from a pet store near where I live. But my older guy prefers these, which I find at Wal-Mart.

I would suggest making a "warm box" with a heating pad under a soft blanket and maybe something over the top so you kitten can hide in a warm and cozy place, especially when he/she is stressed out after the move.

Another thing that I would consider an essential is some sort of perch for your cat to get up off the ground and observe the room, like a cat condo or something similar. I made one out of scrap wood and carpet, so it doesn't have to break the bank. :)

SCRATCHING POSTS! I personally do not have the patience for putting the little nail caps on them, but I find that if they have different options for scratching, they resort to the furniture less.

I am so excited for you! Your new kitten will have a great and loving home and your life will never be the same, I promise!

I can tell by your title you know the nature of cats make BIFL toys hard. That said theres a few options that have survived our cats first year of kitten hood (much play)

  1. definitely a laser pointer.
  2. Primary toy we have one of these https://www.amazon.com/Pet-Fit-Life-Retractable-Feathers/dp/B01ANUU12I.

Theres a couple different models, we find this one with the screw connection work the best. While it’s not fully BIFL, the handle has lived up to its sturdy claim and we can easily replace parts that broke or are used up. We have to buy or make replacement attachments because my cats love killing them with bites. I’ve also tied string, ribbon and random garbage on the end. The lobster clasp at the end has been replaced once and I expect to have to replace the string at some point. This was infinitely better than the jackson galaxy models that don’t have replaceable parts. We went through 3 of them before we found this one.

  3. https://www.chewy.com/cat-dancer-original-cat-toy/dp/49382 This one drives our cats crazy. Because its hard to catch, they haven’t really had a chance to destroy the little cardboard bits. Once they do I plan to replace it with cut bag handles or little slivers of cardboard.

  4. Bouncy balls, only 1 of my cats likes these and they like to chase/bat them not chew so I expect to keep them as long as I can find them. I usually discover them under furniture while cleaning.

  5. Things you make. I’ve recycled old shirts into tshirt yarn, cardboard, bits of ribbon and bags and random shit to test out on my cats. They don’t last and most of them aren’t hits and at least I’m not buying them!

Good-luck making your kitties BIFL! The last advice is to have a local cat owners group where you can trade toys. Some of our toys have been such duds with our cats, we pass them around to the cat owners at work and usually there’s a cat who loves it.

Edit: noticed your comment on automated balls. It really depends on your cat. We tried that and a few other automated toys and in general they got bored fast. They never seem fast enough or random enough. We’ve given them away since they just take up space but it might be different for you.

These are great ways to deal with feline separation anxiety, if you can afford one. If you can't, you can also make them.

Basically, put it down before you leave a room, show your cat it, get him interested in it. Then leave. Do this a couple of times a week for a month or so and he'll stop associating you leaving with being anxious and upset.

u/Ragezone · 4 pointsr/WatchPeopleDieInside

One of my cats is exactly like her. Only toy she will chase, and actually go completely ham over is Da Bee

u/1bdkty · 4 pointsr/CatAdvice

absolutely. However a cat needs more stimulation than once every couple of days. Get a wand toy (like Da' Bird https://amzn.com/B000F9JJJE ), get some treat balls (https://amzn.com/B0018CE8LG ) that you can put treats in for him to find. There is this butterfly toy that is very popular and pretty cheap (https://amzn.com/B01AJJOJGC $9.99 US) that most cats seems to love. Pet him, brush him, just talk to him (read him a book or reddit posts you think are funny or homework or whatever).

He probably don't want to go out but is bored. Cats can do fine inside and live long happy lives. Just find what he likes to do and make sure he gets his favorite activities.

u/[deleted] · 3 pointsr/Pets

My guess is that (s)he is anxious about her new living space. When you brought it home for the first time, did you start her/him off in just one room? It's important to do this because cats are very territorial and tend to get overwhelmed by new environments, so you need to introduce them to their new home gradually. If you didn't do this, it's not too late to start. It may seem cruel to keep them cooped up in one room, but it's actually less stressful for them than allowing them free rein right off the bat.

edit: If you've already done this, I would do as /u/hollyharlow suggests and try to tire him/her out with a long session of play before bed. I can't recommend Da Bird enough for this. My cat doesn't go for toys much, but she loves that thing. You could also use a laser pointer, but just make sure that you end the play session with a toy that (s)he can physically grab or else (s)he will get frustrated.

u/heresyandpie · 3 pointsr/Rabbits

Try doing some basic environmental enrichment:

There's no need for their veggies to arrive in a bowl- hide little stashes of them around the home for them to find.

Try taking paper bags, putting some hay and a few treats in them and twisting them shut. I just made Vivian a few that had a handful of pellets, two different kinds of hay, and a few freeze-dried cranberries mixed in. She goes nuts trying to get into the bag to get the goodies. You can do the same thing with cardboard boxes.

I'll also sometimes dangle their veggies. Use wire or natural-fibered twine (i like hemp or jute) and attach it to the veggies. Suspend it from a door frame or door knob and make it so they have to stand up to eat it.

Try offering a dig box on occasion. Dirt, shredded paper, sand- whichever.

Try cat toys like this one. Put their pellets in there with one or two little treats and let them roll it around to get their food.

Like others have mentioned, move their boxes around. Build them little forts to explore and rearrange. Pick up half of their normal toys and put them away for a little bit. Swap some out once a week.

Keeping any animal entertained is all about making them use their brain. Food's an easy motivator. Changing the basic layout of their toys or simply cycling through them keeps everything fresh for them.

u/vbguy77 · 3 pointsr/Wishlist

These are the best thing to replace that milk jug ring. They're made out of tough pastic, and both my cats chase it more than they would a jug ring. :)

u/kitkat9000take5 · 3 pointsr/CatAdvice

Thank you so much for taking them in!

They're fine being inside a room in a house with food, water, toys (you did get them toys, yes?), things to scratch and climb, and protected from the elements. Your health questions/concerns have been covered really well by other posters. If you don't mind, I'll talk about something else.

If you haven't already, go to Walmart, Target, Petco, PetsMart or whatever your moderately-priced local equivalent is and get some cardboard scratchers (horizontal & vertical or inclined), squeaky toys, a cat pole (<$45 @ Walmart, goes from ceiling to floor with 3 shelves) or pay a bit more and get a tower. The towers are good because it gives the cats high places in addition to integrated scratching posts. However, multiple individual scratching posts are also helpful in encouraging the kittens to use them rather than your furniture or carpet. Spreading them around your home may help with this.

Nearly everyone is running some sort of Memorial Day sale right now so the towers may currently be much more reasonably priced. Also looking at some in person (my local Petco had a couple set up), if possible, gives you a better idea regarding their stability. Also recommend Amazon and Wayfair for the towers- just pay attention to the reviews.

You'll need a pet carrier to transport them; again check reviews and get a higher rated one. Because they're so small now, I would personally get a larger carrier capable of transporting all of them together until they reach a combined ~20 pounds or so.

Try to pick up a variety of toys. My cats always loved the little battery operated critters that chirped or squeaked like birds & mice. Catnip mice are almost universally adored. They'll also love chasing after things so try to get a wand toy as well. Just stroll through the pet dept and choose a few.

Keep giving her lots and lots of patience and love, she'll eventually come around. Remember, though, cats all have their own personalities, it's possible she may never be a cuddly "lap cat". We have four cats, and each are different when it comes to how they interact with us. If you don't already, be sure to set aside play time with both cats. Find toys that will hold her interest, that will really get her active and jumping around, such as: https://www.amazon.com/Pet-Fit-Life-Retractable-Feathers/dp/B01ANUU12I/ref=sr_1_7?s=pet-supplies&ie=UTF8&qid=1492094563&sr=1-7&keywords=jackson+galaxy+cat+toys
After play time, give some special treats that you know she'll love. After a while, especially when she sees her brother interacting in play time and treat time with you, I think you'll see an improvement. Just be patient and loving (as I'm sure you are!) ;)

Vet student and cat lover here. Undersocialized kittens, kittens separated from their mom too early, and Bengals can all make challenging pets, so I'm not surprised you're having some trouble with that combination!

It sounds like your kitten has play aggression. Basically, he's bored and under-stimulated, and his pent-up energy is being directed towards you. Here's some information about play aggression from the SF SPCA, a well-respected behavior consultant, and VCA hospitals. I hope you'll find it useful!

My cat used to be play-aggressive, and here's what's worked for me:

  • Lots and lots of play. Aim for at least two sessions of 10-15 minutes per day of active play, and try to wear him out!

  • Try lots of toys! Kittens will have different preferences and may get bored over time, so switch things up. I'm giving some links of toys that, in my experience, cats go crazy over. They're not affiliate links, I don't work for the companies, and you can find them in pet stores as well: Cat catcher, Cat Charmer, Da Bird, and Cat Crazies A lot of cats also go crazy for foil balls and drinking straws if you throw them around. Try to have a variety of toys- wand toys, sparkle balls, bouncy balls, big catnip toys your kitten can kick, little catnip toys he can carry around, soft toys, plastic toys- you get the idea. If your cat is an ambush hunter, he may also like if you dangle a toy at one end of a cat tunnel so he can run through and grab it.

  • Try to engage in play before you see any signs of playfulness or aggression, and definitely learn to recognize those signs and act on them! I've found that while redirecting with toys is the smart thing to do, at that point, it's usually too late.

  • Cat tend to have a hunt-eat-groom-sleep cycle. Try to feed twice a day at regular times, and play for a bit first. Cats like being on a schedule.

  • More cat trees and build/buy cat shelves if you're able!

  • Wear shoes/boots in the house if you have to. Doing this saved my ankles, and I wonder if part of the reason he attacks you more than your BF is that you react more so it's more fun for him.

  • Food puzzles! Here's a site with a ton of options, including super cheap or free/recycled ones.

  • Look into clicker training! Good way to keep him physically and mentally occupied.

I hope this helps! I realize I've just thrown a ton of info at you, and my main suggestion is to take just a couple little ideas and start incorporating them. Maybe find one toy he loves and use it twice a day, scatter his food over his cat tree or in an ice cube tray, and try to keep yourself covered so he can't hurt you.

Also, definitely take him to the vet! I agree he can probably be neutered now or soon, it's always good to take new pets to the vet, and they may have behavior advice. Best of luck!

Have more of a routine with your kitten!
Start by having a long play session(10-20minutes) with a wand toy that you only bring out during this time. Have a variety of like 2 or 3 different wand toys, my favorites are:
Da Bird - this one is great because the wand part is super long so you can sit while still making your cat cover a lot of ground! ,Cat Dancer - For the feline who likes trash like toys but seriously this thing reminds me of a moth if you move it just right, cat charmer - just a great toy very durable great for cats who just like string!

After your long play session give your cat his dinner and he should be good for the night!
Cats natural routine is to hunt, eat, groom, sleep.
If you are still having issues you could try leaving out different types of cat enrichment to keep your cat entertained through the night. HERE is an article about the importance of enriching your cat and a few ideas!

They’re foam. Link below. The foam can break up a bit if they play too aggressively with them, so I keep an eye on that and toss them if it happens because I’m worried Zola might swallow some, but I’ve never seen any evidence of her eating them.

Here's my bengal kitty RichardParker TheSecond. First name, RichardParker. Last name, TheSecond. ;) He's name after the original Richard Parker who sadly disappeared one evening but I'm always hopefully his chip will be scanned somewhere and he'll come home!

[This would be nice](Pet Zone Fly by Spinner Toy, Large, Multicolor https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01AJJOJGC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_KFpIyb2QABRSR) because he pulls mostly everything under the bed and I get to fish it out.

If you get one of those cheap wire Cat Dancer toys and bend the wire around one of those Da Bird bundles of feathers or something similar, it will drive your cat absolutely batshit insane. The Dancer toy on it's own is good for Bengals because it's basically indestructible given the fact that it's just wire and some cardboard. Adding in the feathers puts it over the top.

I also take a lot of convincing to buy myself something! I sit there and put all kinds of different stuff into my cart and then "Well... do I need that or would I rather eat?" pops into my head lol. Also, as one Lush addict to another, you can make a wishlist on Lush.com and it has your address and stuff stored into it so people can gift you from your Amazon wishlist, because it takes them straight to your Lush wishlist! Also you're kitty totally needs this!

  1. This is my furry-baby Theia. Her birthday was January 9th. She got a nice piece of beef for dinner that night.

  2. Noo it r my burfdey (Also, I compiled an album of all the funny animal images I have on my computer here)

  3. Theia would love this. It's like whack-a-mole! Plus, it would be something I could laugh at her while she plays with.

    Happy Birthday Winston!

~I wub my animals~

I love my cat! Her name is Ella and just turned 3. I've had her since she was 6 weeks old. I trained her at an early age to love water and so she likes to sit near the bathtub (or in it) when I'm taking a shower or bath. She is a biter, loves to pretend to be all sweet and then attack your finger when you are least expecting it. She also greets me at the door when I come home everyday and we have an agreement that I get to squeeze her once a day. (Squeezes consist of literally picking her up and squeezing her).

She loves thinks that make noise and I think these would be perfect for her!

I'm sorry about your baby... losing pets is the worst feeling ever. I lost my baby girl kitty about a year and a half ago, she was the best cat ever. But, I can't live without a cat so I ended up adopting a new one...

For my cat, his name is Shaanty, I will love him extra for the rest of his life!

u/1ndicible · 2 pointsr/cats

I would say you have found one contributing factor: if he is asleep the whole day, he has energy to spare in the night.

I do not know how much available income you have and what your living conditions are, but cats usually love to climb, explore and peek at active things. So, a cat tree and access to a window overlooking an active street could be beneficial.

Other games? Well, a feather attached to a string and a stick (think fishing rod with a feather as bait) is usually a good way to play. You can be on the couch, as long as you shake the feather, he will go for it. Cats are hunters. Anything that stimulates their instinct to run after things, grab them and beat the tar out of them will be good.

Another possibility is to maybe reserve an hour on a weekend to really see what motivates him. If there are some treats he likes, there are toys which dispense these treats when they play with them. For example: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Catit-51282-Treat-Ball-Blue/dp/B00357M8S2

One last sneaky thing: there are substances which cats absolutely love, which make them a bit crazy. We all know catnip, but olives, for example, can have good results (source: my dear old lady, who went completely berserk for olives, confirmed by the vet, as olives are an aphrodisiac for cats. Since yours is snipped, no issue with that.). They make them a bit rowdy, but if you have some time to play with him, this can be a way to put him in the mood - and once he is played out, he will be tired enough to sleep the whole night.

All in all, I think your cat is a bit bored without you, so he is active when you are present. Problem is you do not have the same schedule, so you might have to find ways to keep him occupied when you are absent or to really optimise your time together.

u/rockc · 2 pointsr/TrollXChromosomes

Crate training saved me and my puppy, so I highly recommend it. We unexpectedly ended up fostering her a couple of months ago and I don't think we would have kept her if we didn't crate. Man, that first night was rough though. She was so whiny, even though I had the warm toy (this one has beans in a little cloth bag you can warm up in the microwave) and we turned on a couple of fans for the white noise... but I probably got <4 hours of sleep that night. Just remember, sometimes the pup will be crying because it misses you, and sometimes it legitimately needs to go potty, and you want to balance how often you check on them so you're not giving them attention for whining just to see you. I took mine out every 2-3 hours and she at least didn't have any accidents. And then the next night she slept from 10pm-5am without a peep! It will probably take some pups longer, but eventually they should get that crate time is quiet/sleepy time.

You probably know this, but make sure crate time is never, ever punishment time. Even if you just need an hour of quiet, don't banish your pup to the crate with nothing to do (it's just asking for trouble). Mine is 7-8 months old(ish) and she still gets a small treat just for going into puppy jail, and a kong full of yummy stuff if she has to be in there for a longer period of time.

This is getting rambly... But PM me if you ever need to talk. I cried so much when we first got our puppy. I really didn't think we'd be able to keep her. But now that we've worked through the potty training and the whining and the chewing... I can't imagine my family without her :)

You have me stumped on the mexican candy.

But, I recommend this cat toy. I know it looks just like any other "mouse at the end of a string" cat toy, but there's something special about this one. My cat is a bit of a toy snob and puts her nose up at most toys. But she goes ape shit for this one. I think it's because it uses thin wire instead of a more obvious string. She's more willing to pretend that it's a real mouse. They also have feather refills that look awesome. They flutter through the air very convincingly.

u/ellbeecee · 2 pointsr/cats

My Velcro adores stuffed mice. These are his favorites. Since those constantly get batted under the sofa (I rescued 5 of them this morning), I also got this which won't fit under there. He carries it around, attacks it, snuggles it and loves all up on this darn rat.

I also built (ok, glued and used a staple gun for padding/upholstering) a cat tree (I hate the ones in the shops) from a couple of Ikea LACK tables - a side table and a coffee table - and he climbs on and off those all the time when I'm home, so I assume he does while I'm at work as well.

I’ve bought my kitten this (I forget how to link on mobile so sorry for the ugly link) and of course it’s the cheapest toy I’ve bought, but he will play with this until he’s panting, go eat, come back and play over and over.

You can also kinda DIY some toys. My older cat (5 years) hates anything and everything I buy for her. I bought a bungee mouse toy you can hang on doors and stuff, and tied a long ribbon through the ring. She will play with that forever. (Also linked)

The one they both agree is with the Yeowww catnip banana. They go absolutely bonkers for it. (Linked)

Some also love little chirpy toys. You can find plenty on strings, or little strong free ones (linked).

Go to town with feathers, bells, and whatnot to figure out what your kitty likes!

Crinkle balls are also a hit with both. They love the sound and it’s their jam. My youngest will play with them for hours. Be careful of which brand you buy of these though, some people have issues with the dye.

If you don’t want’em scratching on anything, try getting a couple scratching posts and place them near where they scratch the walls or whatever else. They also love being up high, so a cat tree is always great! Preferably near windows since most cats enjoy looking outside.

She also has this thing with her arm that it always has to be stretched out. Its so long! Haha. My linked item is a treat ball to get your cat working for their treats. I think it would be great for Sun, since he is super lazy.

Here is something to try. Both of my cats like this one -- and they don't agree on much.

On the other hand, my lazy cat wants to lay on her back, and bat at it in the air above her. But my boy jumps up into the air to get it. He's more active with this than even da bird.

Emmy is irrationally obsessed with these mice. (addon, if that makes a difference.) We had to take them all away from her when she lived at my parents' house because the dog liked to eat them (and puke them up) but now that she's living in my apartment, she can have them again! The one remaining mouse is already lost, and she's been in the apt. only 2 days.

Apples don't make great pets.

You definitely need to stick with some sort of reduced food regimen. I wouldn't be surprised if domesticated animals don't get how to hunt anymore... I mean, can YOU hunt down a moose for dinner? =)

Maybe you're switching up the food locations too quickly for him. You could try less random locations around the house to "hide" the food. Pick a few set locations. Take him to it at first. Make sure he remembers where they are. Then switch it up after he's getting it. It might take him a month to get it. Give him time. You may never be able to just randomize the locations without showing him.

Maybe try a food-dispensing toy like this or this or this - Edit: that last one seems to work the best, based on the reviews. Try looking locally or more internet search. But don't give him more than the 1/4 cup daily.

He might not recognized the wet food as food, or he doesn't like that brand. I'm not sure if it works to slowly add some wet food to his dry food to make him understand that it's still food.

See if he'll chase a wadded up paper ball or tin foil ball. Try to make him bring it back for a kibble =) See if he'll chase string. The idea is to try to make him run. A friend of mine had a cat that would chase a chain so I'd sit cross legged on the floor and drag it along the floor in a circle around my body. The cat would chase it around and around me while I kept switching it from one hand to the other.

This is going to be fun. Across my multiple wishlists...

1.) Something that is grey.
Grey bedsheets.

2.) Something reminiscent of rain.
Pet water fountain.

3.) Something food related that is unusual.
Astronaut Ice Cream

4.) Something on your list that is for someone other than yourself. Tell me who it's for and why. (Yes, pets count!)
This Bruins banner is for my BFF Becky. She loves the Bruins more than anything. Hockey is her obsession. I put it on my list to remind myself to get it for her at some point. It would make her happy.

5.) A book I should read! I am an avid reader, so take your best shot and tell me why I need to read it!
The Name of the Wind. Of everything I've read in the past 6 months, this one I devoured and have been desperate for the second book in (it's on my list to pick up this week, actually, if my paycheck EVER comes in).

Look, I hate... HATE... first person perspective. I see it as a sign of sloppy writing. However, this book had me SOLD on it. Kvothe is possibly one of my new favorite characters OF ALL TIME.

Avid reader doesn't even begin to describe me. I have my own library. I need books like air. And if I had to make a list of 100 books that were all I was allowed to have for the rest of my life, THIS WOULD BE ON IT.

6.) An item that is less than a dollar, including shipping... that is not jewelry, nail polish, and or hair related!
This kindle book

7.) Something related to cats. I love cats! (keep this SFW, you know who you are...)
The most interesting cat toy in the world

8.) Something that is not useful, but so beautiful you must have it.
This choker. Enough said.

9.) A movie everyone should watch at least once in their life. Why?
The Breakfast Club Why? Because. It's a good movie. Whether you were the jock, the brain, the spoiled brat, the loser, or the troublemaker-- there's a character you can identify with, and it shows that whatever and whoever you are, you can get along with someone who isn't in your clique.

10.) Something that would be useful when the zombies attack. Explain.
A Seed Vault

Everyone worries about fighting zombies.

Dumb. You see, when the zombies come, I'm holing up. A few weeks and if they are undead, they'll have rotted themselves to death. If they are fast moving, viral sumbitches, then they'll have likely ended up offing themselves through dehydration or whatever.

In any event, I'll wait them out. But then, I will need to rebuilt and eat.

(Besides, I have my trusty zombie-killing baseball bat, and a bow. Quiet. Efficient.)

11.) Something that would have a profound impact on your life and help you to achieve your current goals.
This book on Aztec and Inca expansionism. I'm back in school, and my focus is Mesoamerican Studies. Eventual degrees, here I come!

12.) One of those pesky Add-On items.
Zucchini seeds.

13.) The most expensive thing on your list. Your dream item. Why?
A KitchenAid Mixer Why? I like to cook and bake. My mother has one that I used for years when I was a kid and still living with her. I'm 30 now. I remember she got it when I was like, 5. IT STILL WORKS. Over a dozen moves, being abused for holidays making bread and cookies and cakes, being used by my Dad (I swear, he looks at appliances and they break) and it STILL FUNCTIONS PERFECTLY.

I cannot think of a kitchen appliance that would be more useful.

14.) Something bigger than a bread box. EDIT A bread box is typically similar in size to a microwave.

This loft bed

15.) Something smaller than a golf ball.
How about 7 somethings? A set of dice.

16.) Something that smells wonderful.
Italian Herb Bread Mix It smells good when you open the box. When it's mixed. While it's rising. While it bakes. After it bakes. As you've slathered butter on it and begin to nom.

17.) A (SFW) toy.
Hawkeye is so SFW I would bring him in to put on my desk.

18.) Something that would be helpful for going back to school.
This book, of course.

19.) Something related to your current obsession, whatever that may be.
Funko Tyrion Lannister because even a small man can cast a great shadow.

20.) Something that is just so amazing and awe-inspiring that I simply must see it. Explain why it is so grand.
This.

No one will understand the magnificence of this plushie.

It is a rotund, cuddly, snuggly Cthulhu.

But Cthulhu does not cuddle. He does not care. When the stars are right, he will rise from the deeps and from his seat Ry'leh, devour his cultists-- and everyone else-- by the millions, and bring forth an end to all things.

But how can you deny his Elder God wrath? HOW?! Look at him, all squishy and warm and soft. Look at his little T-Rex arms, reaching out for your love and devotion. His eyes, his wiggly little face tentacles. YOU MUST SNUGGLE HIM.

fear cuts deeper than swords

What do we say to death? NOT TODAY.

Of my 4 cats, 2 really enjoy the food dispenser "toy", 1 will follow the other two around and try to steal kibbles, and 1 doesn't seem to understand it.

Given they're only a few dollars, I'd give it a try. I strongly suggest getting the adjustable multi-hole type, and not this kind. (Both links to Amazon.com products.)

  • Cat number 1 is Sylvester. My SO and I picked him from a local shelter back in December, and I love him to death. He loves to cuddle, and must be touching you at all times. One of the best things about him is that he will totally wait until you wake up to bother you. As soon as you are awake, he loves to get all up on you, wanting to be petted, but he will not wake you up himself. He also gets excited and comes to the door when I get home. Bonus picture - Sylvester's meaty fangs

  • Cat number 2 is Bear. My SO and I just got Bear about two weeks ago. Bear was his mom's cat, but she had 3 cats, and was planning on getting rid of her. I couldn't have that. So I brought her home, and within three days, Sylvester and Bear were playing and getting along. We need to get her fixed, but nothing to worry about since Sylvester is. Bear is very playful, but she doesn't cuddle as much as Sylvester. Bonus picture - Bear's seductive face.

  • The two cats together

  • Sylvester and Bear would love this

  • My parent's have two dogs (that I also consider my own, but I couldn't take them when I moved out) but they are tiny giant yorkies, and they hate toys, so I am afraid I am not helpful with that.

Dunno if this will work for you, but we gradually distanced our puppy further from us at night. At first we'd keep him in his kennel on the night stand, so he could see us. We did this for a few weeks and gradually moved him to the floor near our bed. Then progressed to move his kennel closer to the door, then outside our door until finally he was comfortable enough to stay by himself at night in another room.

It also makes it easier if his kennel becomes a safe place for him. Like others have mentioned. Put a treat or a favorite toy in there with him. Our pup really liked this guy: http://www.amazon.com/Petstages-101-Puppy-Cuddle-Pal/dp/B0006MU8WC/ We'd microwave the insert to simulate having a warm buddy cuddling with him.

u/1337GameDev · 1 pointr/CATHELP

Oof...

This will likely be an annoying process.

It could be a variety of things:

  1. Health issue
  2. cats don’t like brand/kind of litter
  3. cats don’t like shape, color, etc of litter box
  4. cats are bored and see it riles you
  5. cats are intact males and are marking
  6. cats are altered males who developed the marking habit before being altered
  7. cats found a scent there once, and now go there out of habit
  8. cats hate locations of litter boxes
  9. cats are stressed from something
  10. Cats want the litter box cleaner
  11. Cats don’t have a good diet
  12. They are just unruly and do this for fun / laziness

First and foremost, eliminate health issues, and take them for a vet checkup and do standard blood work to check for abnormalities.

I would recommend renting / buying an upright carpet shampoo machine.
I bought gf a bissel one for $350 and it works very well.

Then, after shampooing, use an enzymatic cleaner, such as “Natures miracle.”

Then, I would look at the little box. Move the box closer to where they pee, and away from noises, running water, etc.

    Then, I’d try new litter.
Cats can be sensitive to the smell, dust / powder, and even the grain size.

You can also attempt to clean the litter box more, and scoop it every few hours. Me and my gf bought the “Litter Robot,” but a lot of people can’t justify the $425 price tag to have it auto scoop for you.

You can also get a different litter box.
My cats love our “igloo” style one (also stops our dog from eating the cat droppings).

Then, I’d invest in a cat tree, with 3 levels to it. Chewy has a decent one for $80 delivered that me and gf bought 2 of for our cats.

Some random toys also work well if they are bored, a variety: a catnip infused one, a ball, a spring shaped one, a mouse, a string (this can be controversial as it can encourage the cat to chew long slender objects - such as cords, and shoelaces), and a “ball stuck inside a bowl” kind of toy.

    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B077B9PHKD/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_zd6qDb0X9EEDQ

    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005UMC1SC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_Gg6qDb5YM13YQ

Then, try and get a toy that is some kind of mouse or feather, on a rope with a stick and exercise them for a few minutes every day.

You can also look at their diet, and if they are not getting enough water (which sounds odd, but cats can act out in odd ways when their diet isn’t correct). You can try wet food, if you are t doing that, and adding a little extra water to it to form a small soup. Watch their reaction over time, and if they pee more, this might not be the issue (they may pee a few times with the increased water intake, so watch over a few days if you do this).

If you have an older style basement, with a “French drain,” your basement might be moist, and encourages mold growth, and could be stressing the cats. You can attempt to fix this with a dehumidifier (sealing some ingress points in the basement). This is assuming they pee in the basement that is.

Hopefully this helps. In the end, it might not, and the cats just might be a bit unruly, which does suck :/

Edit: I just noticed, the litter box is on a different floor.

Cats “should” have a litter box PER floor, and realistically one extra per cat (most cats get get away with sharing).

Have you tried any interactive, fishing pole type toys? My cat LOVES his Da Bird toy that we purchased for him a few months back. The attachments can be easily replaced are there are many different attachments that you can get. My cat has learned the sound of me opening the closet where I keep his Da Bird and will come running and meow until I get it out to play and he will cry and whine when I stop playing with it too soon.

u/mr_jellyneck · 1 pointr/Pets

Sometimes it takes my cats (both about a year old, have had them for 10 months) a little while before they take to a new toy so if they don't like something now, they may grow to like it later.

However, two toys they absolutely love and never get bored with are springs and a ball track, similar to this but they come in many different sizes.

I also often give my cats pieces of meat as a treat- chicken, sushi, lunch meats. Only in small amounts and they've never gotten diarrhea from it. Keep the amounts small and it shouldn't be an issue for him. Pet stores also sell kitten milk for relatively cheap if you want to give him something special.

As for chewing on cables or scratching things he shouldn't, just be persistent in shooing him from doing those things. It can be a pain in the ass sometimes but just be vigilant. Spraying them with water or canned air is really effective. My cats had to learn that destroying certain things was wrong and it took some time. Now I just have to give them a "hey!" and they stop.

If you notice them scratching up your furniture, give him something of his own that he can destroy. My cats love cardboard boxes and those cardboard scatchpads. I also bought them this small cat tree that they absolutely LOVE.

I had never owned cats before and used to think they were all just assholes and that's just not true. They can be very loving and obedient pets. You just have to work to get the behavior you want.

u/laughitupfuzball · 1 pointr/guineapigs

So, basically it is a plastic ball with a hole in it that you can fill with treats (I use pellets) and they release the treats in small amounts as your pigs roll them around. I think they are a particularly good toy for pigs because they require problem solving and forces them to get exercise while getting their pellets. These are the ones I bought: https://www.amazon.com/OurPets-Play-N-Treat-Twin-Pack-Cat/dp/B001HWFIZM/ref=sr_1_43?s=pet-supplies&ie=UTF8&qid=1483373198&sr=1-43&keywords=treat+ball

u/vinceravivere · 1 pointr/BabyBumps

Oh man I know some about this one - cat enrichment is a passion of mine, as well as cat training through positive reinforcement!! Cats DO NOT learn from or respond well to negative reinforcement (actually a misnomer, but basically 'punishment' or deterrents), and this might increase his anxiety. Definitely begin this process before baby gets here, as others have said! For you guys, enrichment will be the name of the game. Buckle up, and apologies for the long post....

Give him as many things to do at night as you can - puzzle feeders, try feeding him right before going 'in' for the night with a puzzle feeding bowl, lots of toys. Hide little stashes of food around so he has to 'hunt' for it; you can even make little scent trails. Feeding on a schedule, not leaving it down all the time, makes food much more high-reward and fun to discover. You can also leave worn shirts or bras of yours out, either next to his favorite sleeping spaces or even in them (like cat beds) so he has some 'momma smell' to comfort him when you're separated!!

Put the toys and food away during the day, except for his breakfast!! Night time can become a 'fun' time for him, but only if you do it very positively! Exiling him from the bedroom with negative stimuli (picking him up and carrying him out, chasing him out of the room, shutting the door right in his face) will reinforce the negative associations; try to get a toy that he will chase out and then shut the door once he's left of his own accord.

Some major things to think about are - active playtime, not passive play. These are things that move (either on their own battery-operated or because you drag/swing/point them), versus balls or toys that sit on the floor. Cats have a LOT more energy than we give them credit for! They have an absolutely huge hunting instinct, and get a lot of satisfaction out of using that. Try toys like battery operated laser pointer stand, ones that move with very little jostling, mice that he has to 'hunt'. Here are a few I've used - a butterfly on a wire, a mouse that goes around a track for about 7-8 minutes, a laser tower. You get the idea. None of these are perfect, but they will be new and fun! You might have to come back out a few times a night to turn them back on at intervals, but hey, you'll be up with baby or to pee anyways!! Again, put these away during the day so they are 'new' at night. You can also try cat tunnels like these for fun new territory to explore.

Speaking of territory, try to get him using his 'vertical space' (shelves on the wall, cat trees, etc) as much as possible with treats and catnip. More places to explore means more places to hide food and toys!

In general, look into as much 'fun stuff' at night as possible. He's definitely going to want to explore and get to know baby; this is normal and fine as long as it is safe. Babies actually benefit from contact with animals as it helps their immune systems!! I think that night time is definitely going to be your hardest bit, but just be as consistent as you can and start small. Start with just 15mins locked out, but again, have him chase a toy out and then have something high-value (treats, a favorite toy/game) out there to keep him occupied. Just keep building those positive associations with 'outside the bedroom' and make the bedroom as boring a place as you can for him!!!

Another good page with a lot of the same info, a little better worded haha!!

u/rchard · 1 pointr/Pets

For his loneliness, have you tried giving him an item of yours or your girlfriend's while you're out? Like putting a sweatshirt or a small blanket on the floor? Having your scent around to cuddle with might ease his mind somewhat. I've heard the scent of lavender is comforting for cats as well, just in general.

To make his bed more enticing at night, maybe try one of these. It's basically a stuffed animal for cats that you can throw in the microwave for 30 seconds and stick in their bed. It smells good to them. My kitties love it! We got it at PetCo. If he still insists on sleeping with you guys, maybe try making the top of the bed more attractive to him (by your heads) so he's in a less dangerous spot while he's still so small.

Hope that helps! Congratulations on your new family member!

I totally agree with TheCatGuardian's post. We just adopted our first cat from a shelter and he is 8 months old, and honestly he's still a bit of a handful at times (but that should be expected with any new pet). Try to get one over a year, if not closer to 2 years, as ours is still learning how to play nice and not nipping our ankles to get attention. My husband has always had cats, but this was my first pet and we adopted because I've always wanted one. I did a ton of research and here's what I would suggest as far as supplies:

A high sided litter box with rim - to keep them from kicking litter around and the high walls help keep everything inside. I didn't waste the money on litter liners. They seem gimmicky to me.

Pooper Scooper - It's cheap and gets the job done. Nothing else needs to be said about it.

Stainless Steel Bowl(s) - This one gets good reviews and is the perfect size for their food. You can get two, one for wet and one for dry food. Though I got this one for dry and got a cute oval dish at walmart for ~$2 for his wet. Whatever you want.

Slightly larger bowl for water - Make sure they have plenty for fresh water. I give him new water in the AM and evening after work. I know a lot of people rave about water fountains...but honestly I didn't want to spend the money initially, and my kitty seems to be perfectly fine drinking from the bowl. It'd be worth it to see how your cat feels about the bowl...esp since they will be drinking from bowls at the shelter...they shouldn't be too picky. You can spoil them later on if you decide to, but definitely not necessary.

A safety collar - Make sure it is either a break-away or elastic to ensure the cat doesn't get strangled if it climbs and gets stuck on something and is hanging by its neck. I liked this one because it didn't have an annoying bell, though some like the bell to let you find your cat in the house. The collar also ensure that if the cat gets out anyone who finds him will know he belongs to someone and isn't just a feral cat that they can take for themselves.

Scratching Board - Simple and good reviews. Seems like it will last. You can also get one or two cardboard cheaper ones and see what they prefer to scratch on. My cat doesn't really scratch that much...he uses the scratching posts that are part of his cat tree.

Cat Perch - This is the one we got so he can look out the window. It seems like a good balance of expense and functionality...especially at first. The cat might not even like jumping up on things, so at least this is a safe buy since it's not that tall but still lets them get up off the floor.

Cat bed - This one is highly reviewed and really durable. It's machine washable and will last forever. I really love this bed.

Simple toys at first: Wand Toy, Jingle Balls, Ball Circle Thing, Little Catnip Critter. He also likes paper bags, toilet paper rolls, and his laser pointer. I highly recommend the laser pointer...ours is green.

Greenies Treats

As far as food, you want to ask what they feed at the shelter and get a bag of that at first even if you read online that it isn't "the best." We wanted to get our cat on a mainly wet food diet, so we left his shelter dry food out at night, and gave him half a can of wet food in the morning before work, and half a can at night beofre bed ~9PM, and took the dry food away while the wet food was out. We feed him Friskies Pate...it's actually pretty good for the price. People will get passionate about cat food. Honestly Friskies is fine for us now...they sell it in bulk at Sam's.

Litter - you want to use the kind they use at the shelter so they have comfort in that. You can switch later if you want.

You might also want to get nail clippers and a brush. Our cat is long haired and I like using a comb, but it's really up to you.

As far as gimmicks I would assume that if it seems like a luxury it probably isn't necessary. Cats are very happy with simple things. The vitals are what I listed...a bathroom, food and water (bowls), a few toys, somewhere to scratch, somewhere to get up off the floor, and a safety collar. The bed isn't absolutely vital, but it's nice for them to have somewhere that they feel secure and happy...even if they don't use it at first.

I just buy stuff at the pet store, but I can try and find a few recommendations. You'll want to avoid things with bells or small parts, at least while she's tiny. PetSmart usually has some pretty good stuff, or you can even find a good selection on Amazon. If you're gone a lot, it also might be a good idea to invest in something you can turn on and leave running while you're gone, like this:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06WP7F8YC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_2GCMBb2JZP9JV.

Ironically, my cat's favorite toy is a piece of cut up fleece on a stick that I got from the pet store.

Here are a few homemade things that look fun:

And here are some more things from Amazon that I would recommend:

And
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00QPLUQXY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_dOCMBbRA7B6MM

Just make sure she's careful with the string on this one. As long as she doesn't break it off and swallow it, it should be fine.

Some sort of a laser pointer is always a great toy for kitties, just make sure not to shine it in her eyes.

Finally, make sure to get her a cat tree if you have room for one. Cats like to climb. Something like this would be great:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0794T79KM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_ERCMBbM18RTGA

Scratching posts are also important, so here's what I would recommend for a scratching post, if you don't want to get the cat tree:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07BY385RX/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fTCMBbKA5B15Q

Once you spay her, if she isn't already, feed her adult food so she doesn't gain too much weight. A good kitten food to start her on before the spay is Good Natured, at PetSmart. If she's spayed and you want to start her on adult food, I use this, and my cat loves it, and she's super healthy:

If you have any other questions, please feel free to message me. I have had my cat for two years, and raised her since she was three months old, so I can answer a lot of kitten questions.

One more thing, get her a bed. She may not always use it, but she will appreciate it.

My cat was vomiting from over-/speed-eating but he's...well, he's special. He's not the brightest crayon in the box (bless). I got him a ceramic slow feeder (this one in black) and he doesn't actually use it right (they're supposed to pull out kibble with their paws, he just sticks his face in the big holes and I have to move the kibble to almost "overflow" out of them) but it did the job for me. He no longer vomits up piles of kibble.

But check out slow feeders, and pet food balls too. I have this one on my wish list. It IS good he has such a strong prey drive and "challenges" himself in this way, it's just overboard. May take some trial and error finding the right product.

I DID originally buy this automatic feeder but I realized, stupidly, after the fact that I needed to load it at a set time every day for it to function and with my sleep disorder, that's impossible, so I never used it.

Yeah, I figured it was okay to post because everyone else posted really terrible crap/not really related. I got the "mute" lifted because the admin couldn't show an example where I overstepped my bounds on comments towards people telling me to kill my cat.
I've tried quite a few toys for my cats and this one so far blows the others out of the water in terms of "butterflies". The movement is pretty realistic but there are some cons.
Pros: Realistic Movement, Base item itself is fairly priced/cheap, replacing the butterfly is simple as hell, has decent battery life for only needing one AAA.
Cons: The base is really freaking tiny and I want to punch whoever thought that was a good idea. If your cat is even remotely aggressive they will knock it over and then get bored since it's not flying around. The replacement butterfly is not cheap, one replacement butterfly is half the price of the whole unit, the butterflies aren't exactly the strongest in the world and an aggressive cat could tear it apart fairly quick. So if you are going to give this a try buy a few replacement butterflies so your cat doesn't instantly get bored/upset if they get really excited and destroy the first one right off the bat (Mine did and now they play with it less aggressively since it's not new, but they still go hog wild over it). Next you want to do something about the base, either put some extended legs on it/weights on it or some sort of adhesive to hold it to the floor.

My cat destroyed all of her Mylar Balls, and she could really use some more.

yayy! i LOVE the zoo! every vacation my husband and i get we go to a zoo and an aquarium. so fun!

this toy is GREAT but its an add on but i will tell you my cat would LOVE it!

u/something_facetious · 1 pointr/Dogtraining

Nothing wrong with laying next to the crate, but if he's coming from a situation where he was with a lot of other dogs, this might be a good tool for you. If that's too expensive and he's small enough, this should be sufficient and it's a lot cheaper. Our dog had the same issues, but the latter option was much too small for her. I hope that helps. :-)

I was gifted one of these for my cats. Unfortunately, they had no interest in it. However, I brought it to work with me, and we put our fat clinic cat's food in it so he's got to actually work for his meal. It's been working really well for him.

2, a laser pointer of course, and these guys: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00797JCJW/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

our bengal luuuuvs these. And this guy: https://www.amazon.com/Kong-Snake-Teaser-Pack-2/dp/B007B4WRM2/ref=sr_1_6?s=pet-supplies&ie=UTF8&qid=1481460428&sr=1-6&keywords=snake+cat+toy
He catches it, and drags it off by the neck lol. But really they'll play with anything. The point is to give him options so that he's busy.
3. A tall cat tree is a great idea, ours loves his, but really our main problem is that to get our attention (seriously it's why he does it), he likes to get behind the tv and fuck w/the wires, or get between my desktop monitors and the wall and do the same. We've tried putting obstacles there, but he finds a way.
So really, just know that they generally always need/want your attention. It would help if there's another pet tbh, we've even entertained getting a puppy cause I think a dog or another bengal, so I think if the dog is cool w/cats, that will be the catalyst to a peaceful home w/a bengal. Good luck though, they're a handful, but incredibly intelligent. Have Fun!

Hi there, what a great contest! :)

My Sofie kitty is 2, so not quite a kitten anymore, but she is such a sweetie pie and loves to play!

I found this, and thought it was really cool! Sofie likes to drink fresh water the best (directly from the faucet) and this seems like a neat alternative!

As I said, Sofie loves to play and I know she would love this mouse toy on my For the Kitty wishlist. :)

Thanks so much, I hope you and your kitty have a wonderful Christmas!

Remember to scoop the litterbox everyday. Cleaning poop from cat's paws isn't an easy job. And change the litter completely once in every 1-2 months and clean with soap.

My cat sleeps next or on chair close to me, do what ever works for you.

I let my cat roam free in the living room but I close the door to my bedroom because there's wires and electronics that I don't want him to play with. Not completely necessary if you don't have those.

I recommend you buy a treat ball such as this one and fill it with a few light treats. It will give the cat something to do while you are gone. Be sure to play with her a lot when you get back.

Found it on amazon. Here you go :)

We have to hide the wand from him when we're not playing because otherwise he'd try to destroy the little mouse.

u/wildcatz311 · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Umm... I think you should buy this cause I know you like doing crafty bits and bobs and also being a kid, so FINGERPAINTS :)

and this for your furbaby or babies :)

$0-5: these cute cat toys because all our kitties need lovings too.

$5-10: This funny dish scrubber because we all deserve to feel like a princess or fairy while making magic in the kitchen such as getting rid of grease gunk.

$10-20: This Sheldon Cooper shirt because nerdy humor is sexy.

$20-50: Adopt a Sloth because the money goes to donating towards the animal and you get to ADOPT A SLOTH..do I really need to explain why thats so awesome?!

My name is Leela!

I would like these treats. I also like this toy, but Mom says it's 50 cents too expensive. Whatever that means.

Viktor, tell your mom to get you this! I would like to play with that and you. Between my good looks (Mom says I have a one-of-a-kind face, which means I am the most beautiful cat) and your hypnosis, I think we would make a great benevolent dictatorship duo. Hanners can come too, I like dogs...but I think Viktor and I will see more eye-to-eye. Or I guess, eye-to-eyes...you have two of them, Viktor? How unusual!

I want to be friends with Hanners and Viktor :)

u/nerdalertdirt · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

My name is Flynn Rider. I want to be friends with Hanners and Viktor. If I had to choose, I'd love to spend time with Viktor because I need some new cat friends. My mommies are driving me crazy! I can't have any fun ever :( I would love one of these since the one I had before broke.

Here's a toy that I think is the best and you would sure love! I am a simple cat who gets enterained by anything shiny

u/HempHouse · 1 pointr/RandomActsForPets

I think my kitteh would have fun with these crazy [toys](http://www.amazon.com/Piece-Cat-Crazies-Unique-Toy/dp/B000256CG4/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pd_nS_nC?ie=UTF8&colid=2H3I1B53Z60F5&coliid=I2A02CWQO5TXU8 "toys")! Thank you for the contest nerdaletdirt!

Rugger

Eh I don't know what's the most important item on my list. Each item is as important as the others really.

But this cat toy would definitely be up there as my cat means a lot to me. I feel I don't do enough for her and I'm always worrying I'm not providing enough for her, even though I'm told I spoil her a bit.. I've made her window cushions for sleeping on as I couldn't afford to buy her some and always put her needs before my own. So getting a gift for her would make me ecstatic.

And now I'm going to go hide in my crazy cat lady shame!

u/ScottAllyn · 1 pointr/bengalcats

I think it's mostly pent up energy, tho boredom can certainly contribute to the behavior. Kittens and young cats, especially Bengals, seem to have an endless supply of energy. Panting and seemingly dead tired one minute... bouncing off the walls the next. :D

One thing that I like a LOT more than the feather-on-a-stick toy for wearing them down is the ones that have the feather tied to the stick via a string or cord, like these:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000K9JRH8/

Those sticks always break, tho, so I got a small fishing pole, took the reel off, and just tie about 3 feet of line to the end of the pole with the feather toy on the other end:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B079DPSRMC/

Don't cheap out of the feather toys... the cheap ones can fall apart within minutes. The Go Cat ones seem to last much longer, tho you always want to put them away after a play session.

With that setup, you can have her sprinting and leaping all over the place with minimal effort on your part.
