Real talk, though, I bought this thing thinking it was one of those thin ones you use to flip eggs and shit, but it is REALLY thick:
https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B001VZAKGM
And I was like "WTF does anyone need this for? Burgers?? I'll never use this shit".
But then I tried stirring things in my cast iron frying pan with it.
Spatulas bend and tend to slingshot food out of the pan, but this monster? Damn near as indestructible as the pan itself, AND it keeps the pan in good working order because cast iron needs to be scraped smooth regularly-- especially if you want to keep it seasoned instead of re-seasoning it after every use.
It is NOT a substitute for a real spatula, it cares not about egg yolks and lightly fried fish fillets, but damn if it wasn't one of my better $5 kitchen purchases.
You could also mess around with maybe a side table to the couch with a fancy lamp/fancy floor lamps. You could also exchange the blanket for a chunky knit or fur one for more texture.
I don't have time to make sure it's comprehensive and everything but I can throw some stuff together real quick:
Knives
You really only need 2, a chef's knife and serrated knife. A pairing knife is occasionally useful but rarely necessary. If you really like sharp knives, buy a whetstone and learn to sharpen, cheap knives can get just as sharp as expensive ones.

Pots and Pans
You need four or five things here. I'd say your mainly looking for a large saute pan, a stock pot, and a sauce pan. If you cook eggs you can grab a non-stick saute pan too. Don't use non stick pans for things that don't stick to pans. They wear out fast and they're garbage when they lose their coating. Oh and a sheet pan.

Other Shit

This is just suggestions if you don't have the stuff already, I think the real bottom line is that the stuff you already have is likely fine, and being a good cook is about knowledge and technique and putting effort into tasty food for people you care about, not gear.
I found this: Precious Moments Overflowing with Love Noah's Ark Porcelain Nursery Décor Night Light https://www.amazon.com/dp/B077ZVQHK7/ref=cm\_sw\_r\_cp\_apa\_-uy3BbK30DQKN
It's not expensive but it's also not $10 but I got my mom this one year https://www.amazon.com/Kikkerland-1588-Solar-Powered-Rainbow-Maker/dp/B000068UG6/ref=sr_1_13?ie=UTF8&qid=1472933720&sr=8-13&keywords=light+catchers+for+windows they're really cool (well I think lol) but also I would recommend hanging it from something and not relying on the suction cup cause after a few years it stops sticking and will fall :/
Double and the single and the heart
$16.40 in today’s money! That’s pretty good.
It looked fucking great too! https://youtu.be/n8Skw-WcrVI
Something like that (as a new item) would probably go for $80-120 nowadays
Edit: [£130](The Addams Family House Lighted Building Standard https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07C477LTB/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_VmZQDb5R4ATA5)
I just went hunting and found them- they are Department 56 and can be found on amazon about $22
https://www.amazon.com/Department-56-Lit-Jack-Lanterns/dp/B00264HB2I/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1538077342&sr=8-2&keywords=department+56+lit+jack+o+lantern&dpID=31c6x%252B6NLZL&preST=_SY300_QL70_&dpSrc=srch
Amazon sells everything under the sun.
You're welcome! Here's another one of my favorite gifts: a Rainbow Maker. These are delightful! They make a heart-shaped one, too, if that would be up their alley.
Also, I'm one of the those women who find pleasure in tupperware. So if you think they would enjoy nice tupperware, too, you might consider this large, colorful set. I have it and love it!
Or you can go with the more expensive, but very popular, Lock & Locks or Oxo Pop-Tops.
A metal spatula costs less than ten bucks. Screw "the principle" of the thing, I'd just buy one and tell everyone "we're using this now."
Camelcamelcamel confirms this is the lowest historical Amazon price (the previous being $33.99) so if you have been looking for this it would be a good time to buy.
It's the same with the Chicago set, so you should look around as there seem to be a few deals floating around.
It seems Toys R Us has matched this price and most others on their site as well, and it's possible to get 10% off gift cards there, so the even better buy is there.
Dickens Village has the most Tudor houses, specifically the Partidge and Pear or the Hampshire Solicitor or the Old Michael Church or a personal favorite, The Smoking Bishop
Something more ornate? How about The Timbers Hotel or maybe Staghorn Lodge or maybe Sir John Falstaff Inn
What else is Tudor? How about The Globe Theater? or how about the Burwicklgen Golf Clubhouse?
Not enough, want something more current? Well, maybe the E. Tipler Agent for Wines & Spirits or Four Calling Birds Shoppe
The secret, IMO, is eBay and a little patience. Good luck!
Op here, here's a link to the stuff https://www.amazon.com/Pebeo-Siligum-Molding-Paste-300gm/dp/B0093X2F26
I don't know the dimensions on that turner, but these look similar.

I've actually been looking for something similar for an outdoor planter for some frost hardy sedums. Unfortunately I'm finding that once you go over a few inches in diameter and you want something other than cheap plastic, the price rises exponentially. You can get some huge, beautiful white bowl planters on amazon...for $200-$600! I imagine for such a big package, part of that cost might be shipping (even if it says free shipping, they always factor that into price with big stuff, especially breakable big stuff.) so finding something in real life rather than online might be better, unless money isn't an issue.
If you don't mind plastic, maybe something like this would be up your alley.
I noticed this hadn't been corrected, so here you go! https://www.amazon.com/Precious-Moments-Overflowing-Porcelain-Nursery/dp/B077ZVQHK7
If you have an Amazon account, this one is fairly inexpensive and works well. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001VZAKGM/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It's not as large or perfectly balanced as the pancake flipper many people recommend, but it's also 1/6 the price. For $5, it's great. You do want to sand down the sharp corners so they're not digging valleys in your seasoning - takes less than 3 minutes with a grinder or rasp.
Winco 6"x3" hamburger turner: This thing is heavy and not flexible. Winco is generally great, they make no-frills heavy duty products and restaurants use them. They make different size versions of the same spatula. If you want to spend more, it looks like Amazon sells fancier brands with nicer wooden handles.
It's probably too thick for eggs, but then spatulas good for eggs are gonna be bendy and not the best for flipping meats. For that a fish turner like this woud be more appropriate.
These two both have wooden handles, meaning putting them in the washer is gonna weaken the products. If that's an issue, look for spatulas with plastic handles.
I use a fan like this and it seems to help
Solar-powered Rainbow Maker... I have never seen anything like this before. This is awesome!

This solar-powered rainbow maker is pretty neat, but only works in windows with sun coming through them.
Shining big ball
Rainbow maker of the world
Speck in galaxies
You need an instant camera because who wouldn't love taking and printing spontaneous pictures!!
You really want Ugg slippers because warm and cozy!!
You really need a solar powered rainbow maker because it is winter and rainbows cheer everyone up!

Since it's virtually impossible to keep the dog from them, go for the toys that are made of natural ingredients.
Toys like Da Fur Thing - which is made of a scrap of rabbit fur with feathers on the end. Felted wool balls, knitted wool mice.

Then there are the battery operated toys that you have to turn on for your cat which will keep them occupied. Of course the dog might get fascinated with it as well.
Like Frolic Cat's toys and there's also a solar powered prism that you hang on your window and it casts rainbows on the floor for your cat to catch.
