There is another book about the incident that is not as focused on the oceanography side as the story side of it. Moby-Duck that was a great read about it.

One of my favorite books was about a shipping container of rubber ducks who fell off a boat, opened up and floated all over various oceans via currents- it's a really good read! There's an interesting book that delves deeper into this issue. Granted, it is probably a fair bit longer than it should be, and the author rambles some through the middle chapters, but it's not an issue that seems to get a lot of press.

A large number fall into the ocean each year. Generally, they go unreported unless large numbers (like 50+) fall off an individual ship.

My condolences - I, too, caught the bug about 6 months ago. :)

Joining flex track is really easy. Simply slide the joiners onto each piece and solder them from the bottom or outside. You might have to remove a few ties and replace them after you're done wiring your power drops.

DCC power requirements are a bit more complex and wholly depend on what scale you're using. These two books were key to helping my understanding.

If it helps to know, my N scale 12x8 layout runs very well on the 2amp NCE PowerCab starter set. In short, it depends on how many locos you want to run simultaneously. I've run 5 locos at once with no problems.

I made the pattern from scratch! I went through a lot of revisions, tweaking the paper pattern a little bit at every edition.
I used a lot of books from the library for reference and help, looking for books that cover doll making (like http://www.amazon.com/Anatomy-Doll-Fabric-Sculptors-Handbook/dp/157120024X), but I would definitely suggest looking at http://mimikirchner.com/ & https://whileshenaps.com/
