I don't really love the Ecotools one, it's kind of scratchy. Instead, I would recommend the Real Techniques one. It's really soft and inexpensive- just depends if you're okay with it being angled.

I don't think I've ever really tried a mascara that's not matte so I am not sure what your starting point is- but if the issue is all your mascaras look glossy when you're wearing them, you can paint a matte black eyeshadow over your lashes using a brush like this one.

I just made mine the other day! They're roughly organized by store or function:

Reading your comments, I don't believe you are my husband shopping for our first anniversary on Friday, haha. So here are my ideas:

  • Either the Becca The One Perfecting or NARS Ita Kabuki contour brushes. They are both a unique shape and work wonders if your GF likes to contour (dark in the cheek hollows/light on top of cheek bones to give shape to the face).

  • A good makeup remover, my favorite is the Boscia Makeup Breakup Cool Cleansing Oil. This stuff literally dissolves all my makeup and makes my oily skin feel fresh and moisturized.

  • Is she a fan of Pulp Fiction? Urban Decay as a mini Pulp Fiction/Mia Wallace collection out currently, and that red lipstick looks absolutely luscious.

  • Sephora has a bunch of makeup sets that are a good deal if you want to get her a good variety. I know that the Benefit Beauty Score is quite popular, even though personally I'm not a fan of Benefit, she may be, though! Lots of women are.

  • On the same makeup set note, this Best of Hourglass gift set looks absolutely tempting, as does this Anastasia Contour Kit (the contour kit is actually on my Christmas list!)

  • Last but not least, there is always the tried and true Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette. This shit will make your girlfriend glow!

Hopefully I was of some help! While not knowing your girlfriend, her colors, and what she already has in her collection, I hope this was a good list of unique items most makeup addicts would enjoy :)

Nope, I've pulled a total of three hairs out of palettes. My BFF was all "Morphe, Morphe, Morphe!" but we live outside the US and sis I am not made of money. I bought the Miss A ones (LOVE the case they come in, too)and this 16-piece face set when it was the Amazon Deal of the Day in the UK (I think I saved $1!) and I am really happy with them. Plus there are dupes between them and I love never running out of eyeshadow brushes!

I'm super pale, so my favorite contouring products are the Hourglass Ambient Light Palette and Taupe blush by NYX.

The brushes I use are Sigma F84 Contour Kabuki for the contour, [Sigma F82 Round Kabuki brush] (http://www.amazon.com/Sigma-F82-Round-Kabuki-TM/dp/B0045W22SW/ref=sr_1_15?s=beauty&ie=UTF8&qid=1412465163&sr=1-15&keywords=sigma+brush), and a crappy liquid foundation brush like this one only WAY crappier for the lighlighting.I'm definitely looking to replace that old crappy brush...lol.

Here are a couple of video tutorials that I found to be really helpful:

not op but i struggled with mine for the longest time too. i bought lunch money and flexitarian and i felt like they applied horribly and always messed up my foundation. i just started using them again with this brush and a pretty light hand and i’ve found that even over powder they apply beautifully. i just kind of swirl my brush around in the pan and then just lightly apply it and it looks way better than when i used my fingers!

Happy half birthday! I was just thinking about birthdays :P

  1. I usually go look at indie swatches if I'm bored. http://toxid-lotus.net/ here is one of my favorites. I also go on /r/netflixbestof and pick a Netflix movie to watch.

  2. Sushi + green tea ice cream and dark chocolate + horchata + Nutella (eaten by the spoonful) + a family size bag of BBQ chips (the meal would last all day!)

  3. EcoTools eye set + Real Techniques powder brush

  4. John McCain was tortured during the Vietnam War and as a result is incapable of raising his arms above his head.

Thanks! And I just realized when I read ecotool that I actually have ecotool brushes not RT. I have this set and this set

I'm guessing the one you use is this brush (says for bronzer) or [this brush] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N9BUU73/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_TqNuzbWE8SCZF). Do either look familiar?

u/cheshirekitteh · 2 pointsr/MakeupAddiction

I have the mark Blush + Bronzer brush to apply my mineral foundation, and it works well. Granted, it sheds bristles, but it actually applies the powder foundation well. I have the Sigma F82 Round Kabuki on my Amazon wish list for when I get paid. My old brushes just aren't cutting it anymore!

If you want to try a synthetic version, bdellium tools makes a really nice one for under $8. It's the 776.

They also have a couple of non-synthetic versions. The yellow handled ones are the basic line and the black handles are the more premium (but still inexpensive) Maestro series. All are on Amazon.

Have you ever tried a mascara fan brush? You can coat it with a small amount of product and slowly build it up with a lot more control. This is the one I use.

I've been using the ELF concealer brush. It's only a dollar at Target, which is a big plus since the acetone eats through the bristle glue.

I have a Real Techniques retractable Kabuki brush (link below) which is great for throwing in my bag to use with powder on the go. I use the Soap and Glory One Heck of A Blot Powder on the go for touch ups, with this brush!

I didn't get it from Amazon, but it's the super cheap kind, like this one.

So I don't actually have the Lorac Pro Palette yet, but it's gonna happen...lol. And my fall shade is gonna be Garnet for sure! I mean come on, look at it, it's stunning!

If I get picked I'd like the Sigma Small Contour Brush. I also have my eye on TheBalm Down Boy blush...but surprises are fun too!

I'm gonna tag /u/StormyHiccups, just because :)

Thank you for hosting and happy birthday!!

This year I'm probably being a Lichtenstein pop-art girl, but lately I've been completely distracted by adorable parent/child ideas. I don't even have a kid, but HHNGH!

comment content: I'm also assuming that you are still learning makeup basics, so here's a list of a few things that I think would make a solid set which you can find on amazon or, most likely, at your local drugstore and won't break the bank:

I recommend looking up nail polish on MakeupAlley prior to buying it so you can read reviews. I use Orly bonder base coat and Sally Hansen Insta Dri top coat (in the red bottle). I use pure acetone and an ELF concealer brush to clean up any mistakes and get a nice clean line. I probably get four days of wear before I redo mine. I find that wrapping the tips of my nails also helps extend the wear of my manicure.
