Hello my fellow thick haired sister. You're already doing a lot of things right but here's some additional stuff to try:

  1. If your hair is thick, you should only be brushing it while it is wet/damp. All you are doing if you are brushing your hair while it is dry is making your problem worse by making your hair more frizzy, not less (People with thin hair, don't do this. Your hair is very brittle when it is wet).

  2. Consider dropping down to one shampoo per week, and follow that up with a deep conditioner. I really like this one because it's pretty cheap and you can find it almost everywhere: https://www.amazon.com/Minute-Miracle-Smoothing-Conditioning-Treatment/dp/B00FFXZZG6/

  3. Start using "leave-in" products. These are conditioners/hair treatments that are meant to be put in your hair after you get out of the shower while it is still damp (not dripping). These three products are the ones I like to use the most:

  • Bali Secret Hair Vitamin w/ Argan Oil -
    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06WWBFRDR/

  • Garnier Fructis Sleek & Shine Anti-Frizz Serum w/ Argan Oil - https://www.amazon.com/Garnier-Fructis-Anti-Frizz-Frizzy-Unmanageable/dp/B006J44BSI/

  • It's a 10 Haircare Miracle Leave-In Plus Keratin https://www.amazon.com/Its-10-Haircare-Miracle-Keratin/dp/B004K3D0FK/

The first two products contain argan oil which will help soften and repair your hair, and the third contains keratin which will help repair and strengthen your hair and lock in moisture.

I've been growing my hair out for 3 years and for most of that I was completely neglecting my hair care. I finally stopped shampooing every day probably around a year ago and I finally started using deep conditioners and those leave in products in the last 2 weeks. In that short time my hair is already noticeably softer and less dry/frizzy, though I still have a lot of catching up to do to make up for all the neglect I put my hair through over the years.

Routine:

  • Shampoo with creme of nature shampoo
  • Use the tiniest bit of avocado oil on my hair. When I first started using avocado oil my hair was very dry so I used about a quarter sized amount all over my hair. Since my hair got softer and more luscious (and a little bit oily) I started using a dime sized amount only on the lower half, then when brushing, it moved just the right amount of oil up to my roots.
  • Rinse your hair under water for a while, while doing other shower stuff.
  • Dry with a t shirt
  • Add tresseme naturals conditioner into semi dried hair. This adds for a "filler" for my curl hold product which is too strong to use too much of at once.
  • Use a small amount of Argan oil pudding to hair (I dip two fingers in to the first knuckle, use that, then do it again)
  • Plop over night

i'm also going out and buying everything on this list because my current routine is, frankly, quite horrid. my hair hates me and i'm at my wit's end with it. could you let me know if this is the maui moisture product you mentioned?

u/fiddy2014 · 3 pointsr/depressionregimens

This happens to me every month or so (at least). my hair is straight and thick but I think my lil system I came up with will work for any hair type.

Materials:

  1. Put oil throughout hair and focus on the knots
  2. Put conditioner throughout hair- again focus on the knots.
  3. Let products sit for awhile. I’ll usually take a nice relaxing bath while my hair is marinating in oil and conditioner lol
  4. Shower. Shampoo your scalp and rinse out the oil/conditioner. After everything is rinsed out, use the conditioner again the same way you did in step 2. While the conditioner is in your hair, you can use the Wet Brush to start brushing some out.
  5. After 10min, rinse out the conditioner and make sure it is ALL out.
  6. Towel dry hair
  7. Put leave-in conditioner allllll over your hair and massage it in
  8. Use the hair oil again on your ends and in the knots.
  9. Start brushin. Start brushing from the ends and work your way up- it’s much easier. Sometimes I rub some of the hair oil on the tips of my brush to give a lil more lubrication to it lol. You can keep applying oil as needed.

You may have to shower one more time if you used a lot of oil and/or if your hair looks greasy

I hope I helped!!!! It’s definitely an undertaking and this is what I use every single time!!!!

Oooooh, if you're taking requests, I'd love to see your take on

u/neel555 · 2 pointsr/tressless

Yeah sure, but before taking anything concern your family doctor or dermatologist first. Because every hair is different, sometimes its just your diet or something else.

I have androgenic alopecia (heredity) that's why it works for me.

Update: did some more research, saw palmetto with beta sitosterol and basil extract work wonders for hair folicles, increase the hair growth and strengthen the folicles
u/ekboney00 · 2 pointsr/TheGirlSurvivalGuide

*Okay, so, no one else suggested this route: use purple conditioner. The purple is a toner that will lighten your hair while conditioning it.

  • If you do a coconut oil treatment, the molecules in coconut oil are too big to penetrate your hair follicle, so, the best you'd be doing is coating your hair, protecting it from outside elements that could do more damage. Use an hair elixir (something with argan oil or kukui oil) as the molecules in those types of oils are small enough to penetrate (I use kukui oil after my shower, it's like using a leave in conditioner. My hair like, instantly detangles itself.) Argan oil has vitamin E in it naturally, kukui oils have to have vitamin e added to the product.

  • Next, use a shampoo and conditioner that has alcohol as one of the last of the ingredients, not one of the first. Alcohol will dry your hair out like crazy, rendering the usefulness of moisturizing treaments basically neutral. Protein treatments as well, I've used the Redkin protein treatment, I really liked what it did for my hair.

  • Lastly, limit heat treatments to your hair. Do a blow out, use dry shampoo in between washes for 1-2 days.

For me just adding a bit of jojoba oil to my shampoo and conditioner fixed most of them. My boyfriend however has a massive mane of curly hair that tends to get very bad flyaways. On the cheap end of products I'd recommend Frizz Ease Nourishing Oil Elixir. I got a full size sample in a beauty box, and was very pleasantly surprised by how well it works without making your hair too greasy. On the expensive side you can't do much better than Davines beautifying potion. All of Davines' products are amazing, but you actually have to be wary of getting counterfeit products when you buy stuff online, so be careful!

I apply Minox typically at 6:30AM then again at 6:30PM plus or minus 1 to 2 hours at times. Also I only use the oils on my beard area, never any other moisturizer (to avoid any possible strong DHT Blockers on beard)

Okay, to be fair, no I have not tried her pure argan oil. I have tried her whipped argan oil body butter though, and I can honestly say I found the product to be a disappointment. It does not live up to the hype or the price. You can buy organic, cold pressed argan oil much cheaper from other brands -- which is my suggestion. I love argan oil but Josie Maran is not my favorite brand for it. (And on that subject, here are some argan oils I have used and loved: one and two.)

I'm sure you could just use Hyaluronic Acid and Argan Oil to get the same results. Both which you could easily purchase for fairly cheap off of Amazon (~$15 USD).

u/anxst · 1 pointr/shibari

I do similar, only I use a mix of tsubaki oil (https://smile.amazon.com/Organic-Camellia-Bottle-Sweet-Essentials/dp/B01KY9LVH2/ref=sr_1_5_s_it?s=beauty&ie=UTF8&qid=1500319608&sr=1-5&keywords=tsubaki+oil) and raw beeswax. Definitely don't overwork your rope, especially if using it for suspensions of any kind. Work the oil in using your preferred method. Bake it if you like, but just enough to work in the oil mix and make it pliable.

Trying 1ml oral castor oil twice a day on top of my fin and hair routine. I think the most significant difference has been less shed hairs. Could be a coincidence. I plan to post about it in September at the three month mark.

My favorite oil to use is [Vitamin Castor Oil] ( https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00WL89OR4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_PCZdBbPFVYY78) but from what I've tried [this] ( https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00AMH7S2O/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_WFZdBb0AR1PZ7) is what grew my hair the fastest. And it's much cheaper.

Go to walmart and get it. It should be 3ish dollars. Don't buy it online.

u/maggieonreddit · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

I think the craziest would be the orange and yellow color I did. (There's a pic on my wishlist profile.) I've always wanted to try those feather extensions! :) I am a hair changing fanatic and I've been trying my hardest to leave it alone for as long as I can so it'll grow out and be healthy. Also a zombie monkey doll would be cute...

Here's something I've been wanting to try

Happy 4th of july, hope you are enjoying your night!

Here is my >$5 item! I love this stuff because I have really long hair and it constantly gets painfully knotted and if I use this when I get out of the shower on towel dried hair it helps a BUNCH... no more headaches! :)

u/memecchisu · -1 pointsr/Wigs

Hmm that's unfortunate. I guess I can just use castor before washing the hair as treatment or something.

How about argan or VCO as leave-in?

I'm not too confident I'll find any oil sheen sprays. Never seen one, and local online shopping sites don't know what those are either D: There's plenty of these hair vitamins and cuticle coats though. Didn't give them much of a thought when I was shopping earlier since I had pure oils in mind.
