If you like that you would love the Apache and Chinook models for around the same price too.

Yh as per me I looked extensively into it from a few forums. I started out with a syma gyro 105 copter heaps of indoor fun easy to fly. My 4 year old fly's it.. Fun Toys.

that one is great!

$40, it flies great, and has hot-swappable batteries that are only like $2 apiece. It's also 2.4 GHz as opposed to IR.

Biggest downside I've found to this one is that it's too fast to really be able to fly it inside, unless you have access to a warehouse or something.

I got my brother this one for christmas. Tried it out myself before I gave it to him just to be sure it worked. Handled pretty well for me and he seems to like it enough. Worth noting, he's also 11.

Nah, I was right, it is a knockoff.

We got a few Syma 107/8/9s for the office and everyone really liked them. The ones that shipped earlier took the worst beatings. After a week or so I decided I liked it enough to get something more badass so I got the Blade MSR

It's obvs. way more expensive but man, it's a totally different ballgame. It's taken me about a week of flying to not constantly lose control but I'm finally getting the hang of it. It's way more responsive and powerful and it's great to have removable batteries (I bought a few extras).

Highly recommend it. I've crashed it in my apartment tonnes and so far only broke a part of the landing gear (it comes with two anyway).

If you're looking for something cheaper/toy grade - I have to recommend this one for under $20 http://www.amazon.com/Viefly-Channel-Military-Indoor-Helicopter/dp/B0043XQ82Y/ref=sr_1_1?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1348632433&sr=1-1&keywords=viefly

It is ridiculously fun and easy to fly, and you aren't slamming a nicer Heli into the wall and ceiling while you learn.

I also see the Syma S105 recommended pretty often as another toy grade option.

Just stay away from the crap you see at department stores, they never work right.

I'd check out the S022 as well. I has two rotors, looks awesome, and flies great in my experience.

A lot depends on his temperment, and whether there's someone to order the spare parts and fit them.

The Scout is a cheaper one from the same people (Blade are owned by Horizon, and have good customer support, in a hobby where most things come from China with no support)

Or there are things like this that are available even cheaper, but the quality isn't as good as there's little to no parts supply.

The camera is originally from an LT-711 WLToys Helicopter. (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00608O4SA).

The camera was remotely controllable that it can start/stop recording from the supplied radio. Obviously moving forward I'd like to use it without reusing any of the old radio tx/rx components. Just the camera.

Advice?

Edit: forgot to mention video is just recorded to micro sd onboard. Not really looking for full fpv with it. Just being able to use it on another application.

I bought the Helo TC from Griffin, you control it with your smartphone through a little attachment that comes with it and i must say i've had for almost 2 years and the thing isn't broken yet and i fly with it almost every day. I think you just need to find "that" helicopter that doesn't break easy :P

EDIT: They also have the Helo TC Assualt which has 2 deployable rockets.

Many are not, i've flown several that are not. This one has a full 2 axis swashplate
