I saw this Bronco RC in another post a while back. It's been in my Amazon wish list ever since. I'm still sticker shocked, but someday I'll pull the trigger on one of these.

I have this one from amazon. It can handle any terrain

With any luck those hub carriers are all you need :)

Matching up the dogbones to the arms/hubs may require rebuilding the whole front end, although if you were willing to go 2wd the steering is easier to adapt. Good luck, and if you get too frustrated (and before you sink too much $$ into that old-timer) there are some great new vehicles and some classic re-releases out there right now :)

2wd

4wd

Both come with LiPo batteries right out of the box, and use much more reputable designs and components. And Spektrum radios, which are of much higher quality than the stuff Redcat uses.
You can even pay a bit more and get the brushless! (Faster, more power, less maintenance)

Looks like the other version is a fair bit more expensive, and while I'm ok with dropping some money on the car, nearly $500 hurts a bit... https://www.amazon.com/Senton-Electric-Course-2-4Ghz-Brushless/dp/B079M5P13P/

As mentioned, $300 isn’t quite enough for 4x4. This is the Stampede you’d be looking at.

And the Rustler

Alternatively, you could pick up an Arrma Granite 4x4. I have the brushless version of this truck and it’s ok. I kinda wish I got the Stampede, though.

For a charger, you could get this little guy for $30 which is a great budget charger.

And SMC makes great batteries at a low cost. This one is just under $40.

Ok and my rc-car friend said that if you want something that's more "toy-like" for a kid, to check out the GP Toys (which are chinese.) Do you have any experience with them? I was looking at this one

Yeah Nitro is awesome but it's just hard to justify.. Just depends on application. After my Tekno, I am definitely getting a nitro something.

Check this out, https://www.amazon.com/Team-Redcat-TR-MT10E-Control-Monster-x/dp/B01JOGQICY

Not as fast as some of the Arrmas but a very good truck nonetheless, and is cheap enough that you have some upgrade money.

Pretty much you got something like that Redcat, an Arrma, or save up and get a Tekno.

In the R/C world, a "street car" is something that can basically only be run on the road. Flat, paved surfaces.

You like customization? If that means tuning, like suspension tuning, then buy a short course truck. You can tune the crap out of those, most bodies can easily be fit and fully customized (though it'll cost some decent $$ to do) (Note: $$, not $$$) and they're great at handling, even more so after you dial in the suspension.

The downside is, the cheapest short course trucks usually don't have much speed, some don't even have all the adjustments that they should have, and the bottom of the line is around $200 when sticking to name brands. Which you should do, by the way.

If you want to sacrifice suspension tuning for price, I think the redcat racing has a SCT for $150, but again I'm pretty sure there's a lot on the suspension that you can't adjust.

other good company's to look at Redcat they have some nice trucks , Tamiya has nice cars and buggy's

this traxxas is brushless and looks like it comes with a battery , but i would suggest if you like the RC world to buy a 2s lipo battery from SMC , the 5400's are what i run.

this is a very cost effective red cat RC buggy

personally traxxas , redcat , arma and tamiya's would be the best for under 200 the parts for all 4 are fairly common now a days , personally always try to go brushless as its just a stronger engine over all
