Any painters pole with a boom mount adapter threaded on. They also make a GoPro specific mount that threads on but I found the boom adapter better as I can also mount flashes on it.

You can get some pretty nice painter poles that can cover a wide range of lengths. Wooster makes some nice wooden ones.

Or just use a broom stick.

  1. University Customs makes pretty much all of the flags you're seeing on the subreddit lately.

  2. Use something like this flag pole at your campsite.

  3. Totems are sorta vague in their limitations. I used a telescoping pole similar to this, and got past security with no issue. Once inside I extended it out further so it was far above the crowd.

If you're looking at clearing the snow, I went with this setup.

The panels work awesome in cold weather and even get more sun sometimes with snow reflection.

What I have:

Deluxe Audio Strap

6mm VR cover. I have a low IPD and this solved the eye srain issues I had with the original cover. Also gives me a bit wider field of view as a bonus. Though be sure to clean the lenses with a microfiber cloth before or after each session as your eyes will be closer to the lenses. https://vrcover.com/product/htc-vive-foam-replacement-6mm/

IKEA Vindum Rug 200x270 cm (Very comfortable for tired legs and it keeps you from stepping out of your boundary and crashing in to things) https://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/00344984/#/00344984

OpenVR Advanced Settings (Very handy software with lots of extra options in StamVR) https://github.com/matzman666/OpenVR-AdvancedSettings

Two BallHead Clamps for my lighthouses. Makes it easy to put them up wherever they fit.

Two support extension poles. Makes it eeasy to set up the lighthouses anywhere. Theese are perfect with the ballhead clamps.

And that's about it. This stuff makes VR much less of a hassle for me and mutch more comfortable.

I'm also looking in to some kind of cable management system or I'll just get a wireless add-on when the new TPcast is out or the Intel wireless solution.

Oh and you might want to start saving up for a high end GPU so you can supersample the image as much as possible to get a sharper image. Supersampling can be a bit confusing but Steam mostly should take care of it for you automatically. Though you can set different values for each games too because the Steam default may not be what you want. It can be a bit tricky to understand how it works and how to properly do it. You can start reading about it here and ask some questions if you need help: https://www.reddit.com/r/Vive/comments/8jtlno/ss_idiots_guide_to_supersampling_the_latestbest/

Dude I'm with you I just found a used one of these https://www.amazon.com/Shur-Line-6572L-Adjustable-Extension-4-Feet/dp/B00192AAC6 I was planning on buying one for dumpster diving. Saved me money. I can't wait to get a truck so I can go scrapping and dumpster diving.

I have used this 4ft-9ft extendable painter's pole made by Shure Line as a light boom. It's very light and easy to operate. You can pick it up at any home improvement store for under $35. They make shorter ones, but I havent used them. You will also need an adapter for the threaded end to convert it to a standard 5/8" light mount. Kacey makes such an adapter and it's available at MPEX for less than $20. On to of that, a lightweight swivel adapter for your flash shoe and you're in business. It won't stand on its own, but I have used 2 straps to strap it to my leg like a splint, and I can walk around with it. Looks ridiculous, but the light is really nice.

get one of these poles, adapt a tripod head (can use a $2 paint roller handle) and a remote trigger https://www.amazon.com/Shur-Line-6572L-Adjustable-Extension-4-Feet/dp/B00192AAC6/

I just use a poster board taped to a wall (gaffers tape) stand the subject a couple feet in front of it. Use a single octabox/flash at roughly 45° as close to them as I can get it without being in frame. Adjust the light stand closer to 0° if the light looks too directional.

Here are some examples: http://m.imgur.com/gallery/iACh4

But since you need something more mobile from the sound of it maybe you could try doing something like mounting a smaller octabox to a painters pole or monopod? Then you have it ready to go. When you need to do a portrait hold it at 45° and shoot with the other hand. You could even skip the octabox and just hold the flash and point it. I've done that for wedding receptions where I can't bounce my flash, but want to avoid setting up stands. I don't know if direct flash will give you the look you want though.

save yourself some money and replace the bulb with an LED model, or get one of these light bulb kits and a very long fiberglass pole.

Depends on the selfie stick; I picked one up four years ago before going to Hawaii; not so much for selfies but to get a better/different angle over cliffs and ledges, and over the heads of other tourists. Mine is sturdy enough with a P&S, and doesn't rotate... but it won't hold a speedlight.

If you really need something you can get a painter's extension; they're not as compact but much sturdier, and you can buy adapters for camera gear.

u/brad3378 · 1 pointr/photogrammetry

I'm mainly interested in the image with all of the labeled components.

He also mentions an alternate source for the pole outside of the photogrammetry industry. I'm assuming that he's using a "painter's pole" style handle with a telescoping design like this one and then adding a 1/4-20 thread to 3/4-5 ACME adapter like this one

HOw about something like this :

and

https://www.amazon.com/Warner-262-Extension-Threaded-6-5-Foot/dp/B017MDXTN2/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1485130584&sr=8-3&keywords=steel+extension+pole

YOu guys had some good ideas. I took the weight plate idea and thought of an umbrella stand instead. Then I can purchase a Steel Twist Lock Extension Pole for $14. I'll insert the steel pole into the stand (stand has adapter for different pole sizes) and then I can clamp on the laptop arm (I'll take it off the pole it came with and attach it on the new steel pole ( it's just a screw down clamp type attachment that holds the arm onto the pole.

See any issues with this idea? I will need to make sure the umbrella stand is heavy enough.
