Lemon juicer like [https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004780HX6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_.5vGxb2XYY7G5](this style). Works a million times better than just trying to squeeze it with my hands.

Edit- sorry I messed up the link. Can't fix it on my phone.

u/plebbitisterrible · 14 pointsr/3Dprinting

So. There's a lot of arguing in this thread. Lots of comments about food safety and how it's both possible and impossible.

Why not just the 25 bucks and get a metal one and we all stop pretending that 3d printing is the end all be all solution to every problem.

Seriously. This is not a good application for 3d printing. Prints aren't strong enough to resist the force and pressure. You need to put a lot of time, effort and money in to making a really shitty version of this.

Just buy a decent quality fruit press.

Yea, I have a glass one piece juicer like this. I generally:

  1. go over lime with a microplane zest thingy. Use it once and you'll never waste citrus peel again. I make limoncello if I have nothing else to do with it. (wash the zester down with some of the everclear.)
  2. Nuke the lime for about 30 seconds if possible
  3. Slice in half
  4. juice
  5. pick out the odd seed.
u/LeopardusMaximus · 11 pointsr/specializedtools

This isn’t the exact tool used, but there’s this one on Amazon that’s pretty close, and has pomegranates pictured in some of the photos!

u/ChefGuru · 9 pointsr/AskCulinary

I'll throw my vote in for a sharpening stone. If he doesn't already have a nice sharpening set, maybe consider getting him something like a nice diamond sharpening stone; I've seen them for $50 or less.

Tools are always nice. Here are some suggestions to think about:
~ microplane grater
~ Japanese mandolines can be fun to have around.
~ Fish spatulas can be a handy tool.
~ Does he have a good quality peeler? Everyone has a "normal" peeler, but I like to have a good quality horizontal peeler, like one of these, to use sometimes.
~ Does he do a lot of baking? If so, maybe some silicone baking mats for his baking sheets, or maybe some parchment paper.
~ Does he like to use fresh citrus juice very much? Does he have a citrus reamer?
~ Does he like to use fresh garlic? Maybe a garlic press?
~ Silicone spatulas?
~ Does he have a pepper grinder for fresh ground pepper?
~ Does he have a set of mise en place bowls or something to use to keep his stuff organized when he's working?
~ Does he have a scale? You can find plenty of options for home-use digital scales that can weigh up to 11 or 12 pounds, and use either pounds, or grams (if he's doing anything metric.)
~ Something like a good quality cast iron pan can be a lifetime investment, because if they're well cared for, he'll be able to pass it on to his grandkids someday.
~ A dutch oven will always be useful to serious home cooks. The enameled cast iron type are very popular, but they come in many different sizes and shapes, so keep that in mind when picking one out.
~ Knives are always nice. Paring knife, utility knife, serrated slicer, etc.

Those are just a few suggestions that popped into mind. Good luck, I hope you find something nice for him.

Darf ich zu dem Zweck dieses Gerät empfehlen?

u/tempest63 · 7 pointsr/Canning

Mine is an older version of this.

Just did the yesterday with one of those wedge cutters that cuts the core out and makes 8 pieces. Maybe 20 minutes cook to soften, 10 minutes through the saucers. Wouldn't make sauce without it.

u/CityBarman · 7 pointsr/cocktails

It depends on your juicing volume. We use a Sunkist J1 Commercial Electric Juicer but we juice a lot; 4 bars, dining room, 3 meals/day in a hotel. The Breville CPXL is an alternative for 1/3rd the cost; though I don't have any first-hand knowledge as to longevity. If you're squeezing grapefruits and oranges, you'll want a manual press at the very least. The Hamilton Beach 932 is the industry standard but other much less expensive options exist. The 932 is faster and easier to use but may wear out faster due to its gearsets, requiring replacement parts. Considering the minimal cost, it is imperative that you keep a hand press or two around in case your primary juicer commits harakiri. Norpro and Amco both make excellent units. For less than the cost of the Norpro, you can get both Amco's orange and lemon/lime presses.

We juice daily. We also have a centrifugal juicer for pineapple and other harder fruits/vegetables. We mix 1 part fresh pineapple juice with 3 parts canned, unsweetened, not-from-concentrate pineapple juice. Except for the fancy bars primarily, few have switched to fresh pineapple juice. The good canned stuff is generally perfectly fine.

~Good luck!

Most classic cocktails follow a fairly simple recipe - about 1 1/2 to 2 ounces of spirit, and about 3/4 ounce each of sweet (i.e. simple syrup or Coke or pineapple juice) and acidic (lemon juice, lime juice).

I don't think I've ever seen grape juice used in a cocktail, that's going to be very punch-like. As for grenadine, I assume you mean the very cheap, bright red stuff that restaurants put in Sprite for kids -- my advice is to pour it down the drain. It's basically colored corn syrup.
Now a real grenadine, like Luxardo, that stuff is great.

As for mixers, I suggest picking up some ginger ale, or even better some ginger beer (like ginger ale but much stronger ginger flavor) - ginger mixes really well with pretty much anything, just add citrus. vodka+ginger beer+lime= Moscow Mule. rum+ginger beer+lime= Dark and Stormy bourbon+ginger beer+lime= Kentucky Mule (all of which are very popular cocktails)

I strongly suggest using fresh lime, not the concentrated-grocery-store-bottled kind. Something like this will make juicing MUCH easier:

http://amzn.com/B00KH9PZB8

Also, you can make simple syrup (boil equal parts sugar and water - let cool, then store in a clean container in the fridge, stays good for at least 3 or 4 weeks. And if you add a little vodka to it it will last even longer.

As for some of those very flavored alcohols you have, honestly, your best bet is to go to the website for each of those spirits and get recipes there. Something like 'pumpkin spice kahulha' or "strawberry mash" are very specialty things and wouldn't be used in any sort of classic cocktail.

Last thing, keep some Sprite on hand - I've had more than a few fail;ed experiments where I had to give up and just add a good amount of Sprite to make it drinkable (not ideal, but beats throwing away a drink that just isn't working)

100% agree - check this one on Amazon.

Edited Whoops, that's the bird-shaped one. Here's the fish shaped one.

u/siggi2k · 3 pointsr/cocktails

I can recommend Vodka Cranberry, that uses freshly squeezed fruit, vodka and cranberry juice. This makes you look pretty cool to your friends and tasted pretty good (my SO's favorite).

  • 1 part Vodka (i sometimes put 1.5 if i want a little bit more alcohol flavour)
  • 0.5 part orange guice
  • 0.5 part lime juice (i usually put 0.25)
  • 4 parts cranberry Juice

Shake with ice, strain into rocks glass with a lot of ice and garnish with lemon/orange wedge/slice.

    Edit:

I use one of these for the oranges and a little smaller one for lime squeezing
u/cooldude_4000 · 3 pointsr/Tiki

I use a glass citrus juicer like this one. It has a little spout that makes it easy enough to pour it.

If I'm preparing for a party, I still use that juicer but put the juice into a Pyrex measuring cup that also has a spout for easy pouring.

8.95 on Amazon prime to save you a headache You could probably buy the catchy techno song for $0.99 too if you'd like

I had that but the hinge broke while I was using it. I use the old school glass ones. They work just fine

I have this one:

Best Choice Products® Pro Commerical Manual Orange Citrus Juicer Lemon Fruit Juicer https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003ZJO7JI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_crCzxb8BB97NW

I used it to produce lemonade for a coffee shop from April to September for 2 years. Huge quantities of lemons. It is still basically new. Any of them like this will work. I even have one of my grandfather's from the 40's but the handle screws down instead of being a lever, so it is fine for an individual glass of juice but terrible for doing any quantity.

u/mamallama · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

I'm not really a fan of unitaskers, but i have recently come to love this lemon/lime squeezer. this thing is a life saver! i do a lot of mexican cooking and love fresh squeezed lime. i also use lemon and sometimes lime when i'm baking. this is a great tool, saves your hands, gets so much more juice out, so easily. love it.

Let's do it in the kitchen. I seriously love kitchen gifts. they are my favorite as they impact my life the most. Thanks for hosting such a fun contest!

also, would that grater work for potatoes? thats what i use my box grater for most, making fresh hashbrowns. but i suppose i'd have to cut the potatoes to fit... aaah well, its alright.

Chef'n Lemon for lemons/lines: https://www.amazon.com/Chefn-FreshForce-Citrus-Juicer-Lemon/dp/B002XOB0P0

(I like something a little heavier duty for lemons/limes as it's the workhorse)

Oranges/Grapefruits either a larger hand squeezer or reamer:

For Pineapple juice I'm using a generic Cold-pressed juicer, I can get about 1 liter of juice from a good pineapple and find that it still tastes good after a couple weeks:

u/MeowFood · 2 pointsr/BuyItForLife

What is your use case? If you want to juice a lemon or lime or two for a marinade, salad dressing, or cocktail, hand presses will be fine. Yield may not be the greatest, but you can finish by hand. They are all pretty equal - if you aren't happy with what you tried, you aren't going to like the third one. If you want to create enough juice to drink, you either have to press for a long time, or explore other options.

Edit: This is the type of hand juicer you should look at if you are trying to get a glass of OJ in the morning: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0000CCY18/ref=s9_zgift_hd_bw_b4awk_g79_i6?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=merchandised-search-8&pf_rd_r=GRDYTX7CSHVEFD0XCBAM&pf_rd_r=GRDYTX7CSHVEFD0XCBAM&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=84a625fb-afe3-476c-a15e-b84a3b2fd38b&pf_rd_p=84a625fb-afe3-476c-a15e-b84a3b2fd38b&pf_rd_i=1095338

Collander, rinse them all off. Chop them in half on cutting board, transferring to another container. Juice with a queen beehive juicer with a trashcan next to me to flick the juicer open and drop the shell in there.

The biggest way to be fast is to follow-through on prep. So washing all limes at once, cutting all limes, juicing all limes, then cleaning up.

You could use a sunkist juicer as well. I think Dave Arnold did a thing where he determined people prefer hand juiced to the sunkist, because the sunkist supposedly adds more bitter pithy layer into the juice... but meh I don't think most people will notice.

For the downvotes against hand juicers...

https://youtu.be/x0Q3t7AOniI?t=138

Watch these guys fly. You can be faster with them if you want to. Some clips of guys using little hand juicers in there. Flip them open and they instantly pop the shell out into the trash can, pop one in, squeeze in a quarter of a second and flip open again.

Also never get one of these, you'll die.

u/stgabe · 1 pointr/cocktails

Just to clarify I still mean a manual press, e.g. something like this.

u/SarcasticOptimist · 1 pointr/BuyItForLife

If you do it in 6 seconds, kudos. It took me a while to figure out just how many twists it needs for my waiter's style corkscrew ($2 at Trader Joes) before I can lever with the bottle lip and pull it out. Even now, it takes about 20...which can be annoying when you need for cooking. With the Rabbit, it's a basic 1-2 motion like a manual juicer. I haven't dealt with many synthetic corks though...that might change my opinion.

u/cheeseburger_humper · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

You need a citrus juicer.

So you can juice citrus for drinks and recipes and stuff.

  1. This is a really cruel, and tough question. I don't know! As a child Sleeping Beauty was my favorite. I watched the VHS so many times I burned through the film and my mom had to buy me another, she got me a stuffed owl to dance with to the song Once Upon A Dream. However, as I got older I fell in love with the disney/pixar like Up! and Wall-E. Mulan has a fantastic soundtrack, and Beauty and the Beast has some of my favorite characters. Plus I related to Belle a lot growing up. Can I just say the whole franchise? Please? :)
  2. Someone else posted these, and I don't remember who but I absolutely adore them. Best part they're disney/pixar! :).
  3. See ya real soon!
  4. Thanks!

I've unfortunately never been to Disney World. I would love to go, I'm actually pretty desperate to, but I haven't had the chance/can't afford it. One day!
u/dettoaltrimenti · 1 pointr/Cooking

you've already got a lot of advice, but I wanted to give you one tip:

No one may agree with this, but start out by cooking breakfast- you aren't tempted to go out for breakfast as often as going out for dinner, the foods are much simpler, you will tend to cook the same thing over and over and not get sick of it, and although it won't get you laid, if you manage to get laid this will keep the girl around. Fried eggs or Perfect Scrambled Eggs, hash browns, and bacon or sausage. Learn to make french toast, and biscuits. Buy a coffee grinder and a french press, and buy one of these orange squeezers for orange juice.

Yes, it works as advertised.

TESTING NOTES

**

WINNER - Electric

Rated as HIGHLY RECOMMENDED:

Black & Decker Citrus Juicer - $19.99

> With no effort, lemons were completely squeezed of all their juice. As you pressed gently, the reamer rotated in both directions to clean out the fruit half, and an adjustable pulp screen kept out seeds and let you adjust the pulp level of the juice with a simple switch. Great for bigger jobs when you want a lot of juice, but easy enough to use for just one lemon. Simple to assemble and clean.

WINNER - Manual
Rated as RECOMMENDED:

AMCO Houseworks Enameled Lemon Squeezer, model 06-0354 - $11.95

> Surprisingly easy to use—juice gushes out. Of the squeeze-style juice presses we tested, this was the most comfortable and effective, with curved handles and a well-shaped plunger. Squeezing the rounded handles didn’t hurt our hands like others of this style, and seeds were contained. It was also attractive, sporting a bright yellow finish, but hand-washing is best if you want to keep the paint from chipping. (We tested the paint and found it lead-free.)

Also rated as RECOMMENDED:

  • OXO Good Grips Citrus Juicer, model 34781 - $12.99

    > Nice and easy, this juicer removed all trace of juice in each lemon half with its sharp-edged, open-sided reamer. Seeds stayed out of the juice in the collection cup, which was easy to pour. Sturdily constructed. Has many parts, including a larger reamer that’s inverted beneath the lemon reamer and hangs into the collection cup, making it harder to clean than other manual juicers.

Mexican elbow huh? That's a new one to me.

I can't recommend this style enough. I found one these: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00004S9GB/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_6YR2xb6RHJEJW at Marshalls in the states for 40 dollars. I have one at home and my bar. It's so thorough, there's no wasting citrus.

u/nvaus · -2 pointsr/whatisthisthing

Juice press. A cross between this: http://www.pharmac.in/pharma_machines/ayurvedic/juice_press.htm

And this one: http://www.amazon.com/Welles-or-Peoples-Juice-Press/dp/B001ACDLX0

You wrap the things you want juiced in a heavy duty burlap sort of fabric to keep them from spraying all over. Looks like you're missing a top plate and the bottom tray to direct the juice flow.
