Best nail polish according to redditors

It's mostly stuff bought from Wal-Mart, Target, or Sally Beauty Supply. Brushes(and more brushes), dotting tools, and striping tape. I've also occasionally cut shapes into scotch tape (but I've found that I have to tape two layers together or it sometimes tears when peeling off).

As for brands, it started with a crapload of Sinful Colors, but I've also used Kleancolor (metallic and neon), Sally Hansen (which I'm really liking for ease of use), as well as Fingerpaints (Chromatic Creation is my favorite and introduced me to the holo effect) and a few bottles of China Glaze. At this point I now have about 118 different bottles (I tend to dive into stuff).

I think /u/mewfasa should be gifted some nail polish because she lost web dev job and her two supposedly best friends as well.

If I can nominate more than one person, I also think /u/MeghanAM should be gifted because she didn't get the job, so nail polish might cheer her up as well.

Many of the bundle monster sets are available on Amazon, I'm a big fan of their polishes and plates. (The nature and horror sets are my favorites, the blogger collaborations are great as well)

There is an indie polish maker in my country that will custom make any polish you describe to her for about 13-14$ including shipping within the country but that's not on amazon. But I guess I can get that myself in a few months when I have money for it in a few months(neon pink with neon blue hexes including massive ones YAY)

I need to search amazon more and finally find something decently priced + decent shipping for my own sake so I can buy stuff without eventually being 100% broke.

I'm not the original person you were talking to but I wanted to share my base and top coat because I love their longevity.

These are my nails after 4 days wear.
I have done dishes and laundry every day, and my job is practically typing for 8 hours.

The picture is of my dominant hand, and I have not reapplied my top coat at all.

I swear by Orly's Bonder as a base coat and Poshe for my top coat. They're amazing and last so long I feel bad removing my manicures because they're still decent.

Poshe dries suuuuper fast too.

1: I had a little girl around 5 at my daycare named Lily who was just smart as a whip, and for some reason she just loved me. Since she was another workers child she would always be there early, so we would color together or play with playdough while we waited for others to arrive, and I imagine that had something to do with it.

Anyway, she was friends with my niece, and ended up coming to her birthday party at a nature park. One of the activities was a scavenger hunt when the children were supposed to pick an adult and go for a walk in the woods to collect various naturey things. When it came time to pick she immediately calls out "I pick miss Michelle!" and her mother just gives her just the saddest look. Lilly looks at her mother and says in an incredibly grown up and calming tone "Now just because I didn't pick you doesn't mean I don't love you, I just don't get to see miss Michelle as much." her mother nods, seemingly placated, and we totally nail the scavenger hunt ;)

2: Zoya Godiva is so demure and elegant, but still has some nice sparkle to it, so it is never boring. I also really love the Zoya Intimate collection, especially Jules and Dove.

3: I've never had to dress business casual before, but one thing I do know is the air conditioning will probably be up way too high most of the year, so cardigans are probably a good bet!

4: Mod lacquer Satire, I'm addicted to corals and jellies. For a non indie I've been lusting after Sparking Garbage for months now.

Just start painting your nails and you will figure out what works best for you eventually. I've compiled a list of helpful links/videos that I've found helpful for me.

Dotting Tools:

• Cutepolish's video on how to make your own dotting tool.
  
• <$2 on amazon. It might take a while to get to you if it's being shipped from China though.
  
  Stripping tape:
  
  
• $1.08 on amazon.
  The trick when you use stripping tape is to make sure your polish isn't old and too goopy, otherwise it will not be so crisp.
  
• And use tweezers like this or this.
  
  Cleaning
  
  
• You will get the hang of cleaning once you start practicing. If you get better at application you will have to do less cleaning. This will come with practice. I suck at doing nails with little mess. So I use acetone and a slanted brush. This might be a good set to get.
  
• /u/ReneeJade 's post about cleaning up with toothpicks is very helpful too.
  
  Nail Polish Brands
  
  
• This depends on how much money you want to spend. I started with Sinful Colors because no mula. But the formula is kinda bad and takes forever to dry. And Sinful Colors stain your nails really bad in my experience. Sally Hansen is pretty good for the price. I only just acquired a couple of China Glazes and Essie's. They are pretty good but I only buy it when it's less than $3. I don't have experiences with Orly, O.P.I.
  
• Julep is okay in my opinion. Personally, I feel like they're not worth the price. One of my bottles just broke when I was turning the cap. And the other one (Julep Sasha) stained my nails really bad :/
  
• There are nail polish programs like Julep Maven (who do a free first box with code FREEBOX) and other ones that I don't know about but head onto /r/BeautyBoxes to find out more.
  
  Top Coat and Base Coat
  
  
• Orly bonder is a good base coat that I use. I don't have experiences with other ones, so I can't compare.
  
• Getting a fast drying top coat is probably a good idea. I use Seche Vite but it has a really strong smell and it shrinks your polish. I'm trying to find a new one but Sally Hansen Insta Dry didn't work for me. It smudged my nail art even though it dries pretty fast. Poshe is supposed to be good but I don't have experience with it.
  
  Nail Strengthening
  
  
• O.P.I. Nail envy is a lot of people's favorites but it didn't work for me personally. Just search this subreddit with "nail envy".
  
• Quimica Alemana. This stuff has good reviews and I want to try it.
  
  Nail file
  
  
• Use a crystal one. This one has good reviews or use an O.P.I. one. I use an O.P.I, pretty happy with it.

One of my friends is a nail fiend and swears by Seche Restore. I haven't used it personally so I can't speak for the results, but it's saved a few of her polishes.

Fairy Dust by China Glaze. If I wasn't sads about losing it, I would use it SO MUCH. OMG it is the PERFECT one for me.

I've been using Orly Bonder base coat for months. MONTHS now. It's pretty fantastic and my manis last a while. Plus I've had no issues with staining.

For top coat I use Seche Vite. It honestly seems like most people like it but there's also a majority out there who prefer other coats. I tried going the cheap route for quick drying top coats and they all disappointed me. (Never have tried Out The Door though.)

I'm grateful for kind strangers. Whether they flash a smile, hold a door open, or gift people on the internet, the world needs more of them.

I actually love giving manicures to friends and family. My mom once brought me to her patient's house to paint the nails of 3 little girls. Cutest thing ever!

As for tips, some of it is really product quality/chemistry. I recommend two specific products: Orly Bonder as a base coat and Seche Vite as a topcoat.

The base coat prevents your nails from staining, and this one is rubberized (it feels sticky if you touch it), so polish adheres really well. This top coat dries your nails in about 60 seconds. I am an idiot and always have to pee right after I finish my nails. I can actually do that with SV. This combo has been able to make almost every nail polish I use last as long as I want it to last (for me, up to 7 days, but usually closer to 4).

To prevent chipping, it's important to use as few thin layers as possible. Thicker polish chips easier. The best polishes are ones that are heavily pigmented, but thin. I could probably suggest several based on your favorite colors. But my favorite brand is probably China Glaze. Oh! Also to prevent chipping and peeling, don't flood the cuticles. I leave a small amount of space as a border on my nail. You can see it pretty well here, especially on the thumb. I do this either by being sparing with my application or taking a paintbrush dipped in acetone and cleaning up the edges when I'm finished. It thins out the sides, making the polish less able to peel up from the edges.

Try Orly Bonder as your base coat. I could never get my nail polish to not chip after a day or two before this stuff. I once had a normal, non-gel mani last 13 days with this stuff.

I could definitely use this base coat, I'm totally out and my manis are chipping so quickly! I haven't used this one yet but Orly has great products so I figure it's gotta be at least ok :-D I'd prefer Orly Bonder but it's a bit over budget so it'll have to wait.

My favorite youtuber probably changes on a daily basis. Most recently i was digging on todrick hall and this video, Beauty and the Beat, starring such youtube sensations as GloZell and Antoine Dodson. Never gets old :)

Seche Vite is amazing!! When it gets low, it becomes a little hard to use, I highly recommend adding their Restore to your wishlist. It really helps extend the life of that bottle. Have fun!!

It's the Seche Vite! The acetone-cleaning should help, but using too thick of a layer of Seche makes this peeling happen, I think. Try going easier on the topcoat. If you've had it for a while, and it's getting a little goopy, I'd also invest in a bottle of Seche Restore thinner.

Also, I'm not sure, but is the topcoat peeling off in its own layer as well? Like, leaving the polish under it behind? Because this issue can also be solved by letting your nails dry less before you put the Seche on.

Hey! So a couple questions first:

1. Are you sure it isn't "Seche Clear" that you picked up, and not Seche Vite? Seche clear is a bottom coat (I believe) and is not fast drying.
   
   
2. Did you by any chance ask why it was on sale? Maybe the bottles are old, and that could be why they're on sale. Older Seche's get goopy because it is a fast drying polish, so the older it is, the thicker it gets because it's always drying when it hits the air. I'm not sure about the bubbles though, that seems like a new issue to me. I have not seen that so I am sorry that I can't give advice on that!
   
   So, if you do have Seche Vite (and not clear), I would try taking it back and saying you got a bad bottle. Try to return it and say that it's your first experience with it and you expected it to work "up to par," even though it was on sale. Stuff on sale should be there to save you money, not on sale because it's shitty, right? Maybe out of season, but not defective, unless there's some kind of warning on it. So yeah, I would try to return it.
   
   I have gone through quite a few bottles of Seche Vite myself, and I find that buying Seche Restore is super helpful for when it starts to get goopy. It's a nail polish thinnner, designed to keep the same properties as SV (Restore can be used with any polish, but not any thinner can be used with Seche Vite- does that make sense?)
   
   Anyway, this is one huge freakin wall of text, but I hope it helps! Let me know if you have more questions or if something I said isn't clear :)

Is it possible that you've only seen the red and gold because you haven't angled it enough? I can see all the colors easily just looking at my bottle, but on my nails I have to twist and turn them more to get the colors to change. I'm not sure what else it could be, because you're right, it really would be weird for them to make a fake of a cheap polish.

Does your polish smell worse than most polishes? Mine has a pretty strong, unpleasant scent. Maybe another clue.

It was a smaller incident with me but it was something that stuck with me since. I was a teen and known to have a foul mouth on my good days (still do) but when I was angry I got louder and fouler. So one day my Mom and I are arguing at her office - about what I have no idea, I was an unmedicated bipolar teen at the time and we didn't know - so I go into an office to grab something, continuing to say whatever I want to say to her, and as I walk out I start another tirade with full-on cussing. I'm looking down as I walk and talk and as I reach her I look up and see a client standing there with her and they both look at me with wide eyes like I have two heads.

I stop and stare for a minute and then mutter an apology and hide in the office for the rest of their meeting and the rest of the day. I apologized to my Mom and things smooth over, like they always did. Now I'm very aware of what I'm saying and around whom, even when I might be in the middle of a tirade. I have looser boundaries about what I can say where, and my mouth still bothers my Mom sometimes, but overall it made me a lot more aware of my surroundings and my mouth... especially around strangers.

My favorite that I own is Ruby Wing Electric Firefly. In the shade it's neon yellow with a blue shimmer. In the sun it's neon orange with the same shimmer (I have glitter over it in my photos). Two neons in one!!!

Welcome!!! I love baking too! This is an awesome idea for a contest, what are your answers to the questions?

I'm in school to be a vet tech and am also a shelter volunteer, so I know this problem too. My best advice is to keep everything moisturized, including the nails. Use a good cuticle cream (I like LUSH's lemony flutter or Burts Bees lemon cuticle balm). I've noticed that my nail polish lasts longer when I take care of that. I've also had good luck with a sticky base coat like ORLY Bonder. It's hard to find a combination that will stand up to this kind of wear, though. I usually have to redo my nails if I've been doing a lot of cleaning/sanitizing or wearing gloves for long periods, like in lab.

It's different for everyone cos we all have slightly different chemistry/oiliness/lengths/shapes.... For me, I use a ridge filling base coat, any colour polish (I don't think buying the more expensive ones is worth it unless they are unique colours) but I SWEAR by the Seche Vite topcoat because it dries so quickly and lasts better than most others I've tried. (I recommend the topcoat restorer too cos the top coat gets thick and clumpy in the bottle really quickly.)

Also: many thin coats is annoying, but works better than one thick coat

Honestly, I haven't done a thing and most of them just last. Some cheaper off-brand or drugstore brand ones that are like 15+ years old have dried but most do not. I have some that are easily 20 years old that my mom gave me and the formula is still perfect. You could also get some seche restore and I have been told it works wonders. I have never tried it personally, though.

I did indeed get it from Amazon! The giant Seche Vite was like $12, and the Restore was too! :)

Woof, that is WAY more expensive! I got a bottle of 4oz+a .05 seche bottle on amazon for $13. Eventually, I'll try getting a small bottle of HK to see if it's a huge fifference for me. For now I'm very happy with how seche looks and gpfeels as long as I dont use it on white polish. I use Out the Door with any designs that have white in them, usually.

I would say spring for the Seche restore, and if you are going though a bottle that often, order the professional Seche Vite kit from amazon. $15 for a 4pz bottle plus a .5oz vs $45 for that much if you buy it a small bottle at a time. You will want the restore if you go that route though, the instructions say to restore your little bottle with a few drops before filling it up. But just think, no more dealing with trying to reach far enough into the bottle! I picked up the kit this month and am super pleased with it so far.

    I have been getting into doing my own nails and nail art. Been doing gel regularly for about 8 months at home. Got my first stamping plate set and some new gel to try it out. Since this was my second time stamping i had the hang of it a bit better than the first time but still need practice. Any tips are welcome :). If anyone has any tips on how to shape my nails i would love to hear them. My nail beds are wide and sometimes fan out. I have been just trying to file the edges to make them skinny because I'm not sure what else to do.

This one holds 60, is fairly inexpensive and compact!

Also, when you make your move, be sure to wrap your bottles up in bubble wrap or newspaper or something. You don't want to go through the heartbreak of opening up your boxes to find broken glass and a puddle of sticky polish!
