I was considering this as it is a lot to drag around and I would love to not need it, but:
I therefore have started exploring the 7" liliput hdmi photographers monitor. Its tiny, light and can literally be mounted to the computer. Something like this: http://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ABXDMTM/ref=s9_dcacsd_bhz_bw_c_x_3
I cannot help but feel like the minute I do not have it, I will need it.
(Alt idea: Long monitor cable and just stick it in another room, out of the way)
Here's one for $56 on Amazon.

Wow...I am sorry but you got ripped off and that tech is an idiot.
You want 1080p. Period.
You may not NEED it all the time but it's better to have it and not need it than not have it and wish you did when you can't read a license plate.
For that kind of money, you could have gotten this.

Installed it yourself and been proud of the fact that it's installed and you know it's installed right.
Have you considered attaching a tiny LCD screen to a pair of glasses or something similar to that effect for computer use? They can be cheap . I have used similar things myself because I have a really strong astigmatism and without my glasses, my focus point is around 6in from my face.
I use a cheap lcd headrest monitor with a cheap receiver hooked to it. Works great.

I'm using a Pyle Audio PLHR70 backup camera monitor for use in cars. It's a 7 inch monitor, has good color reproduction and supports direct composite from the Apple IIe. Also, it's under $50. Only issue is that you'll need an external power supply, I'm hoping to possibly build a special connector type that would allow me to power it directly from the Apple II in the same way that the disk drives are powered.
