Menstruating cis woman here!

Plastic applicator, regular size, unscented. Some brands have "click compact" types, which are even more compact so easier to carry in your purse. For example: https://smile.amazon.com/Kotex-Compact-Tampons-Absorbency-Fragrance-Free/dp/B00UASJM8S/ref=sr_1_10_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1540027038&sr=8-10&keywords=tampon

Cardboard applicators can be uncomfortable since it's basically the dry raw cotton against the vaginal opening. Avoid tampons without applicators (e.g., OB) since those require a bit more skill and comfort with one's own vagina. Most menstruating women can use a regular -- if it's heavy flow, she'll just have to change it earlier.

For pads, aim for unscented and moderate flow. With or without wings is really up to personal preference of the cis woman in question, and you won't be able to predict. Avoid the overnight pads, they can really feel like diapers. Again - NO SCENTS. Example: https://smile.amazon.com/Always-Ultra-Super-Wings-Unscented/dp/B01IZ5FDNA/ref=pd_bxgy_121_img_2?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B01IZ5FDNA&pd_rd_r=b0be1bc6-d449-11e8-af19-2fb1fdc93008&pd_rd_w=0ELMl&pd_rd_wg=OteeQ&pf_rd_i=desktop-dp-sims&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_p=6725dbd6-9917-451d-beba-16af7874e407&pf_rd_r=Z375Z4D88N13S66AZDWZ&pf_rd_s=desktop-dp-sims&pf_rd_t=40701&psc=1&refRID=Z375Z4D88N13S66AZDWZ

If you have a menstruating cis woman friend, see if you can bum a few off of her to share with others and help pass. I would totally give supplies to a trans woman friend.

Also a note: If you look post menopausal I would be much less likely to ask. So it's less crucial for older lookin' ladies.

Hope this helps! This was my own strategy when getting communal menstrual supplies for my workplace :)

I think you are underestimating the amount of blood there is, at least the first couple days. Just regular panties (or even period panties) are not going to do it. It's way more than a regular period. That's why they give you extra large pads and some people wear adult diapers. Like when you stand up the blood will be running down your legs. If you are sitting for an hour or so you will be sitting in a puddle of blood.

Would something like the always discreet adult diapers be better for you? I have heard they are less bulky than a pad or a regular depends, so maybe it would be less uncomfortable for you.

I took a chance & bought one of the cheapest sets in Amazon I could find. They are great! Here's a link if you're interested. Call me crazy, but it seems wasteful to spend a lot of money on something you're just going to bleed all over 😜
It takes a little getting used to the bulk compared to ultra thin disposable pads, but I find them much more comfortable against my skin.

u/thunderfartt · 11 pointsr/BabyBumps

Panty liners and change them often. You can buy more absorbent ones like these that soak things up a little faster.

> I don't think he honestly even knows when he's peeing since he will just be walking along and doing it like he doesn't realize.

That screams neurological issue to me. I remember you said the vet checked him out for bladder/kidney/urethra issues, but has he had a neuro check? Because this sentence has me wondering about a possible spinal cord injury.

> Getting desperate and certainly don't want him to be an outside dog or rehome him, as he's perfect in every other way for our family, kids and other pets.

You need a belly band! Lots of options on Amazon. I use this one, with these pads.

These are made for bladder leaks. I'm 35 weeks and have been using them since March and they are perfect. They're still thin but have caught all the sneeze pees.

Mom guilt is a total real thing. Don't beat yourself up over things that aren't in your control. I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes at 28 weeks, and then my daughter got diagnosed with IUGR at 36 weeks. I felt so guilty my whole 3rd trimester, I made myself pretty miserable. I kept thinking that I had done something wrong and how my kid wasn't even born yet and I was already a terrible mom. It's not your fault and you are already a great mom! Just do your best.

On a lighter note, here are some things I loved and plan to use again (sorry for the length!)

  • Gerber prefold cloth diapers make AMAZING burp cloths. We used them for EVERYTHING. They are super absorbent and work better than any "burp" cloth. Put them on your registry, even if you don't plan to use cloth diapers.
  • The rock and play is marvelous. We got one for our shower when it wasn't on our registry. MAN. Were we dummies. Thing is freaking magical. We ended up splurging and buying an auto rocker which made our nights much easier. We kept the other and used it as a spare.
  • They make easy swaddles with velcro like these : The nurses at our hospital swaddle babies 24/7 so they were pros at it. Unfortunately, my husband and I weren't pros and had a hard time. Even 3 months in, I had trouble making my baby into a baby burrito. I plan on bringing swaddles with me and using them directly in the hospital.
  • After delivery, I was given the works to feel more comfortable. Pads, witch hazel, dibucaine, tylenol, etc. However, I'm a bigger girl and the pads given to me at the hospital were pathetic. I had to double up on pads and even then, had to switch every 2-3 hours. I wore 2 pads, my underwear, and the snazzy mesh underwear they give you. I still bled through some of my maternity pj bottoms which was embarrassing. After coming home, I bought these amazing pads. They are extra long and thicker. They also have wings to secure to underwear. I will 100% be bringing these to the hospital with me.
  • Buy bulk size 3 diapers. Your kid will spend the most time in these diapers so you should stock up on this size. Most people will buy newborn, size 1 and maybe size 2 diapers for your shower. DD has been in size 3 diapers since 6 months and is over a year old at this point. ALSO, you can return/exchange diapers to almost any store that sells them without a receipt. I exchanged tons of diapers at target and wal-mart once we decided what our favorite brand was.

Please feel free to ask any questions! We are happy to help here. :)

I got these pads for the first few days that are super heavy. I still have some left, I only needed such a heavy pad for the first week. After that I was able to use these regular sized ones. The wings are really helpful in getting everything to stay put, and also the longer ones are good for night-time when you may be moving more. You can also get these pad ice packs, they gave them to me at my hospital and I loved them, but you could also buy some more to have on hand.

u/winter83 · 3 pointsr/TrollXChromosomes

Have you tried those overnight pads? When I used pads I used them sometimes to avoid leaks. They are way longer than normal pads. I think they can hold more.

We are a 20 minute drive from the hospital and husband will not leave my side, so I'd like to get everything in. I'm a notorious overpacker, too, but I'd rather have something I don't need than have not have something that I do need.

I had to switch from normal panty liners to actual Poise pads made for bladder leaks because I would have so many issues. The poise pads do a better job with soaking up the pee before it becomes an issue.

For post partum bleeding I used the pads the hospital gave me. They had the mesh underwear and giant heavy duty pads, and then varying degrees going down in size. Once the package is opened they can't reuse them so take as many as you can there. Once the bleeding settled down I used [these pads] (https://www.amazon.com/Always-Infinity-Absorbency-Unscented-Packaging/dp/B019O9HILG/ref=sr_1_3_s_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1511621952&sr=1-3&keywords=always+infinity+size+2) and they worked awesome.

u/knitterofknowledge · 3 pointsr/BabyBumps

Cloth panty liners are great. I used to use them along with my diva cup during my period. I had Lunapads. I liked them, but on lighter days just found them to be too bulky or that I would feel them sticking to myself.

At the beginning of this pregnancy, I had to use progesterone suppositories and needed a daily light liner. I've always had trouble finding a good light liner. Most are too thick or too long and I get annoyed quickly. Because this was going to be a daily thing for three months I tried a bunch of different types and U by Kotex Barely There were the best. They are low profile, just the right length and they actually do pull the moisture away from my body.

u/gamerdarling · 3 pointsr/AskWomen

That's sweet, but probably unnecessary...and assuming you're having sexual partners over any specialized products will probably make said partners concerned about your (hopefully)nonexistent girlfriend.

I say probably unnecessary because I'm assuming you are well stocked on toilet paper, and most women in that situation will just use toilet paper folded up until we can get home. Despite all the talk about it we really don't bleed that much(less than a cup the entire week for the vast majority of women) and usually our first day(the one that might catch us off guard) is very very light so it won't take much. In the months when I was broke I've actually had to use only toilet paper, and it worked out just fine.

But if you really feel your bathroom needs something there do maxi pads rather than tampons. Many women(myself included) can't get into the idea of tampons, and even the most die hard tampon fan will be out and out grateful just to get something other than the toilet paper in that situation. Here are the ones I would recommend: http://www.amazon.com/Kotex-CleanWear-Ultra-Thin-Unscented/dp/B007S8N1RQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1409507326&sr=8-1&keywords=kotex+pad

If it's for a woman that might be sleeping over, consider the ultrathin overnight version here: http://www.amazon.com/Kotex-Allnighter-Ultra-Thin-Overnight/dp/B007S8N1TE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1409507394&sr=8-1&keywords=kotex+pad+overnight

if anyone gives you shit take it off and bleed on their furniture.

make sure you get the womens though and not the mens, it's important because in the mens they put most of the absorbing material in the front of the diaper where the penis sits, but the womens have the majority of material in the crotch and about halfway up the rear. much better

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07D3H82LQ/ref=psdc_3763391_t1_B07B4SL1P2?th=1 these are a good option and actually made by the menstrual pad company always

there's also this option, which is amazons brand and about 1/4 of the price of store brand underwear but might be marginally thicker, i've never bought them before. i think they'd be about as thick as a regular depend but they do come wrapped up like a pad for throwing in your purse or keeping discreetly in the bathroom

https://www.amazon.com/Amazon-Brand-Incontinence-Underwear-Absorbency/dp/B07B4SL1P2/ref=sr_1_5?keywords=womens%2Bdepends&qid=1554352930&s=gateway&sr=8-5&th=1

u/earth_inked · 2 pointsr/BabyBumps

I bought these pads and these adult diapers because I have no idea of how much and how long I'm gonna be bleeding. I really don't want to bleed through my pants/sheets, so better safe than sorry!

u/plentyofrabbits · 2 pointsr/TrollXChromosomes

They have scented and unscented kinds. I think sometimes they're called radiant? Here they are on amazon.

u/andwom · 1 pointr/canada

> ~$94.05 for those above period supplies assuming I purchased them all in advance + I bought them in bulk sizes (ex. 36 pack rather than 18 pack pack of tampons, that way I save money) + there was no emergency purchases for unexpected period start.

so from your figures $100/12= it costs you $8.30 month

Same amount of branded pads below costs $5.00 per month

https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B001DWNTBG/ref=sspa_dk_detail_0?psc=1&pd_rd_i=B001DWNTBG&pd_rd_w=2OaKD&pf_rd_p=4b7c8c1c-293f-4b1e-a49a-8787dff31bcb&pd_rd_wg=9Jpi1&pf_rd_r=K824SRRX7XHVFNGDZE5Z&pd_rd_r=f043c468-6e2c-11e9-8d62-07ed84270f12

So are we talking about $5.00-$8.00 month cost that we are talking about?

u/michiroo · 1 pointr/AskReddit

I buy adult diapers for my grandmother, and I know for certain that they make ones that look like actual underwear and aren't quite as bulky as the usual ones.
They also makes ones that go into your underwear like a menstruation pad/panty-liner, but are longer and much more absorbent. They're in the same section as the adult diapers and are made by the same brands. They're easier to dispose of if you have a roommate because you can just say you're on your period.
Also we've learned from experience that this is one of those things where you don't want to go for the no-name brand. My grandma always leaks with them.
Try these Tena overnight pads or these cute Depend panties. Both brands can be bought at Wal-mart or your local pharmacy. :)

The maxi pads I order became add-on items just to give one example.

I am on the copper iud for birth control and know all too well about heavy periods. There are different kinds of overnight pads. I like the always brand super heavy overnight ones, they almost look like the big ones the hospital gives you after baby lol. But they work wonders and are really absorbent. Here's a link to what they look like on Amazon.
http://www.amazon.com/Always-Overnight-Extra-Heavy-Unscented/dp/B0029NYQ6A/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1451786769&sr=8-1&keywords=Always+super+heavy+overnight. Way to be an awesome dad and get involved with periods, I wish I had a dad like you that I could've been open with them about. Good luck!!!
