The absolute easiest oil to produce at home with absolute minimal effort is going to be sunflower oil. Sunflowers practically take care of themselves once you stake them, and can be grown in almost any climate zone and in abundance. Once they're done, chop the heads off before the birds get to them. Getting an oil press will net you all the cooking oil you could want for a year shy of needing large amounts for deep fat frying. About 1.5 Kg of seeds gets you about 1L of oil. Make sure you plant a high-oil variety, usually the stuff advertised as bird seed grade "Black Oil Sunflower seeds" is what you want.

The best part is, sunflower oil is pretty tasty in dressings, has a high smoke point, and is super relatively healthy for you as far as oils go.

Extra bonus: You will attract birds (good or bad thing) and you will attract pollinators like bees.

We were so fortunate to have received lots of hand me down items from friends and family for baby #1 - the main baby pieces (crib and changing table) were from friends. For decor, we recently moved from a larger apartment to a smaller one and were able to incorporate a lot of our old decor, furniture and plants into babies room.

My husband and I are both park rangers, so I’ve had a lot of “animal” stuff around. We are so happy that we can incorporate it into his nursery.

Favorite items:

  1. National Park prints: https://www.andersondesigngroupstore.com/a/collections/shop-by-product/1850501431345/61-american-national-parks

  2. Stoke crib was a hand me down from a friend whose two daughters I adore. It was so special to receive it from them https://www.stokke.com/USA/en-us/nursery/stokke-sleepi/1043.html

  3. Alphabet stitch: made by my mother in-law 30+ years ago. This hung in my husband’s nursery.

  4. Bear prints above crib: photos that we took in Alaska when we were rangers there

  5. Little wooden animal airplant holders (squirrel and whale): made with scrap wood by my husband

I bought some on Amazon!

Edit: Here's what I purchased, it says 8 but they actually sent 10 Lithops + 25+ seeds. They packaged everything very well and took a lot of care in the shipment.

Mimosa pudica. You can get seeds from Amazon. They're really easy to grow and produce some cool flower.

The leaves can sense when they're touched and they dump a bunch of water out into the stem, causing them to fold up like in the gif. I think the theory is that it's an evolutionary thing to scare off possibly-harmful bugs and other creatures (they also have thorny stems, which backs up the antisocial idea).

u/crispyscone · 6 pointsr/todayilearned

Ah sorry for the misunderstanding. Those are not my carrots, just some pics I found while googling.

Growing colorful carrots is very rewarding! Might I suggest trying other colored carrots as well! This "carnival blend" seed packet is the actual one I ended up getting. It was neat pulling up red, and yellow, and white carrots along with the purple like so (not my pics, just some I found on google to illustrate different colors).

another blend

also found the fully purple ones too here and here.

I don't have much area for growing and thus my carrots did not get very big. I was considering just using a 5 gallon bucket, filling it with soil, and try growing in there.

Me personally, I would totally flip out if someone got me a miracle berry bush! They produce a berry that makes everything taste sweet! https://www.amazon.com/Miracle-Fruit-Farm-Plant/dp/B00HVTNJMY
I would also flip out if someone were to get me a dragon fruit cactus!: https://www.amazon.com/Tasty-Hainan-Pitaya-Dragon-Cactus/dp/B01L6XXNJO/ref=sr_1_3?s=lawn-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1480624099&sr=1-3&keywords=dragon+fruit

Is it one of these or something similar?

https://www.amazon.com/Venus-mericlone-Maintenance-Growth-Guarantee/dp/B00YO1MTI2

If so, it is potentially getting too much sun. While in tissue culture, almost all of the plants needs are being met by the gel, so they are grown under dim light in warm conditions. Suddenly moving it into the sun can cause the temp to rise rapidly in the little bottle and cause some tissue damage.

In the long term, you are going to have to transfer it to a normal growing media, either peat and sand/perlite or long fiber sphagnum. Since it's been in sterile culture media, it will need a lengthy 'hardening off' period, where the humidity is slowly lowered and the light levels are slowly raised. This will give the plant time to adjust its transpiration rates, grow roots, and become acclimated to normal soil microbia.

The amazon reviews are great.
My fav from Ryann:
I "planted" my seeds, and then after about 3 hours, their beauty in the "garden" left me feeling euphoric and with many questions. The flowers that "bloomed" left me contemplating every decision I've made in life, and I am forever changed. Highly recommend seller..

These are dried. Not sure where you can get fresh ones. Also, not sure if dried is less spicy. We may require you to eat more than one dry pepper if someone can tell us if it's less spicy. Haha. Also, I am not a doctor, but I recommend not going through with this at all. Bamboozle the lot of them, who gives a fuck. Haha

really? because you can buy them on amazon, and it even says "Ships from and sold by Seed Needs U.S.A."

Here you go, there is a link at the bottom to buy. It needs to be planted next to regualr strawberries, and they sell those as well.

Edit: also on Amazon

u/Honda_TypeR · 3 pointsr/pics

Does Whole Foods sell these? This is the first I heard of them.

Apparently according to wiki, they have no pineapple cross breed in them at all. They are just a cultivar of strawberries that happen to taste like pineapple.

Shrimp are super easy. Just load up the tank with a nice easy substrate, some live plants (especially mosses! Anything like Christmas moss to java moss. Even moss balls). Also get some pipes for them to hide in like this one . I have the same one and my shrimp always chill inside lol. I have a heavily planted 5 gallon with red cherry shrimp, nerite snail and a mystery snail and they all seem super happy.

Have you tried pressing oil with any kind of nut?I doubt I'll ever do that, but I was looking into it briefly a while ago and if anyone has enough to do it with, I'm sure you must. I saw this and if my olive tree ever fruits, I might try get one if it makes a lot of olives

I'm sorry - I made a mistake! The Moisturizing Bomb is actually in [squeezey-tube type packaging] (https://www.yesstyle.com/en/belif-the-true-cream-moisturizing-bomb-75ml-75ml/info.html/pid.1060679344) (which I am still excited about, but isn't accurate for what I told you). It was actually a different moisturizer that isn't available in the US that's in a [proper sealed jar-type packaging] (https://www.yesstyle.com/en/belif-the-true-cream-water-bomb-75ml-75ml/info.html/pid.1061866549). It's called the True Cream Water Bomb, not the Moisture or Aqua, which is interesting! The TesterKorea site has a different picture now then when I checked earlier, or maybe I just misread - they do have the larger 75ml size, but the link shows it in a tub. I'm sorry if I got your hopes up!

Oh wow, I love Faceonomics! That blog has been so, so incredibly helpful; I've found some of my favorite skincare off of her recommendations! I agree, she really does have amazing skin. :)

Thanks! My great-aunties still press oil in an old-fashioned way - what they describe in [this link] (https://www.thoughtco.com/ancient-history-of-making-olive-oil-4047748) under "Making Olive Oil" and "Olive Press Machinery" is close. We didn't press olives, but the process was pretty close. Now my mom has an oil press - something [like this!] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004H2SDTM?ie=UTF8&tag=udfblog-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B004H2SDTM) :)

My fiancé Ryan is my favorite person. He's my best friend and a great dad to our daughter. He works so hard to make sure we have everything we need and he's always there for me. He loves me for who I am flaws and all. I feel like sometimes I take him for granted but he's just really awesome. He loves growing stuff and he'd love this and this. :)

I haven't bought it, so I can't say.

I will say that online reviews indicate that the fruit works much better than the tablet. Buying the fruit plant isn't very expensive, either.

You can buy the plant here and obviously you should use rush shipping, as it is a living thing.

thanks for your thoughts - if I could pick your brain, what do you think of [Earthworm Castings] (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00062KQ42/ref=oh_details_o03_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1). I also ordered from Amazon recently. My thought was to let what my landscaper put down, sit for a week to ten days and see where we are (I water it multiple times a day as well). If it isn't going well after that, I'll mix this Earthworm Castings with [this seed] (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003AYWIU8/ref=oh_details_o03_s01_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) and then water the lawn with the Scott's spray

Thank you so much! This was really helpful. I see the Q4 on amazon for $30 but am worried about my dog. The crabgrass is really everywhere, and I still want her to be able to have some of the yard to walk around on. Might just have to wait till the frost hits to kill it off, then reseed early next spring, and lay a pre-emergent down.

I bought this type of seed and this fertilizer on amazon today. Do you think these will work? Now that I think about it, the grass I bought might be too dark to match the good grass in the front. Also if the grass is fine for my area, why does it turn yellow in the winter?

I did an at-home soil test recently and everything came back at average levels and didn't tell me much. Perhaps if I send the dirt off to my extension it will be more conclusive.

Thanks again so much, I really appreciate you taking the time! Lawncare is overwhelming for the lamen!

I planted 3 strawberry plants in a planter and I used miracle grow gardening soil as opposed to their potting soil by accident. I currently have them under two LED multicolored desk grow lights which have been working well so far but I'm concerned that these may be the source of the problem. Maybe they are getting too much or too little light? I have them under the lights for 12-13 hours a day. Either that or a deficiency maybe? I'm not certain that it's any bad watering habits because I'll usually water them well until the soil is most and then wait a couple days until it is dry again to water.

The lights are currently off to easily see the plants otherwise they're all covered in purple light

Also these are Hirts Evie Everbearing strawberry plants I purchased from amazon as bare roots - https://www.amazon.com/Hirts-Everbearing-Strawberry-Plants-Bareroot/dp/B000P3K8G8/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1467058059&sr=8-2&keywords=strawberry

Ah okay, I just have some question on if I can get supplies/successfully compete a non-polar/polar extraction.

I am taking only 75mg of DPH (to work as a anti-histamine, not a delriant as I usually do). And advil is a vascodilator so the vasconstriction won't be to bad.

Also I ordered these: https://www.amazon.com/Organic-Woolly-Morning-packed-wiccanherbmaster/dp/B00GWNQUZ8/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1469812842&sr=8-3&keywords=hawaiian+baby+woodrose+seeds

Just wondering if you thought that was an okay source.

As another user said it's getting a bit late to start peppers from seed, but I found a variety pack on amazon - $1.30 for 40 seeds: http://www.amazon.com/Organic-Rainbow-Pepper-Seeds-240mg/dp/B001LR46SI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1396825446&sr=8-1&keywords=pepper+seeds. There are many other options online as well.

Wait, I wanna change my answer. I think this thing is awesome. It's slightly over $10.00 (including shipping. I think $10.70 all together)
It's like a maintenance free venus fly trap If you don't want it to count then say the word and I'll go back to my Pyramid Rubik's Cube.

GEEZ. Last time I bought HBWR they were really cheap and they were shipped from Germany but I cannot find that vendor on Amazon anymore. Might be stuck with buying from these "shaman shop" type places that needlessly inflate the price of seeds due to LSA popularity (I'm assuming).

I get my morning glorys from here if that helps.

I read strawberries like sandy soil, so I got potting soil, mixed with sand, planted. These are under t5 full spectrum bulbs in my basement. I feel like the perlite is causing some mold to grow, is that normal or should I be worried?

Also, some of the leaves on each plant have been dying, starting at the edges (as seen on the left image, then shriveling up and turning brown. I've been trimming them off, but it keeps happening regularly. Every week there's more. Four of the eight plants have died, shriveled up like that completely. The ones that are still alive seem to be doing quite well.

This is what plants they are: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000P3K8G8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Any feedback is appreciated! Did I screw up the soil? Too much/little water? Not sure what to do here.
