If you want the maximum amount of light possible on the plant then yes but most people aren't going to be able to tell the difference. A cosine correct light meter sure can, through. I've tested white buckets, Panda Plastic, Mylar and aluminum foil in five gallon buckets and Mylar/foil came on top. I use the shiny side of aluminum foil myself.

The difference between white and mylar/foil is how the light is reflected. White is going to have a diffuse reflection with a lot of light scattering. Mylar/foil is going to have a specular reflection that will reflect more light on target with only one bounce.

The distance from the light to the plant plays a big role if you should go with diffuse or specular- the farther the light from the plant the more of a benefit one will get with a specular reflector.

BTW, mylar/foil is a first surface specular reflector while "bathroom" mirrors are second surface specular reflectors. The glass on a second surface reflector means that there are four refractive index transition points which causes scattering and absorption. This is why you'll hear not to use mirrors as light reflectors for plants.

You can get a hybrid reflector such as Panda Plastic mention above that has both diffuse and specular reflection.

Most recently I bought these . The ones I bought before are these round bottom sleeves. Both are pretty much the same. The square ones are a little thicker of a material than the round bottom ones. But not enough to make a difference. Just a different feel. Keep your records safe bois.

Sorry if the formatting sucks, I’m on mobile

Somehow I think you would be better off with a regular large area rug (or several smaller ones) sitting on top of the carpet. Although, it looks like there are some pet resistant rugs too. The one in the link is like a long floor tile, you can put a few together.

Also, here's a few plastic carpet protector products:

Probably too late now, but get painters plastic. Lay it in the tub, then fill it with water. It won't leak and your tub doesn't even have to be clean.

This is what I use spring through fall. The best part about it is you can make it an size you want and you can make it conform to any shape you want. I really think its one of the greatest technological advancements in camping gear in the last 60 years--I really can't recommend it enough. It is a bit pricey compared to my other gear, but the one I've linked to should last you a few years.

It's a clear material that won't leech any terpenes. I press quite a lot of material and only store on FEP.
