I've been at it since 2001, and I rarely clean anything.

I keep my humidifier tank rinsed out and replace it when it looks like it needs to be replaced. Every couple of years.

I put an intake filter on the back of the machine. I buy sheets of fine filter foam and cut to size, replace when they get dusty and a quick rinse doesn't seem to do anything.

I put an inline filter between the hose and mask. I change it when it gets gray. Usually about a month, but it depends on whether it's dusty in the room, or windows are open, or its pollen season.

The hose I'll rinse out occasionally, replace every few years, or if it gets cracks or holes in it (cats!).

I use wipes to wipe off the oil around the nasal prongs. I replace the prongs when they stop sealing even after washing with a little soap and water.

Unless you're living in a really bad environment, it takes a lot less cleaning and replacement is a lot less strict than the medical supply companies want you to think--they want to put you on a set-it-and-forget-it replacement schedule, particularly if your insurance company picks up all the costs.

Mine doesn't, I have a high deductible which I haven't met in years, so I just take care of my supplies myself. The best thing I did for my sleep apnea was to lose weight. I still need the machine but it's not nearly as dire as when I first started out.

I would go to ex500.org and register on the forums first. Anyways here's my top mods:

  • Replaced clutch springs with stiffer ones - this helps at higher RPMs because the stock ones start weak and get weaker with age $10.80

  • Replaced rear shock with stocker from a new gen ninjette because it's a lot stiffer and raises the bike a bit $49.99

  • Removed the pair system because it does nothing good and with exhaust it makes popping noises $15.00

  • K&N air filter installed and drilled 4 Half Inch holes in the left side of airbox $49.99

  • Airbox mod requires carb tweaking so I opened up the carbs and rebuilt them for reliability $45

  • Got some shorty levers 36.99

  • Replaced stock ignition with Coil on Plug type ignition for an '08 ZX6R - prices vary but i got mine for 40 bucks including harness.

  • New sparks gapped at .30" $8.10

  • Higher quality front brakes $32.00

  • Oil changed to Shell Rotella T $19.16

  • Avon Roadrider tires big upgrade over stock. Prices vary I got mine for 350 installed both front and rear

  • Best for last: Racetech .90kg/mm springs with gold valves $300

Run it without the air filter. If it starts and runs OK, buy a new air filter and apply oil as directed (if it uses oil, some foam types do and some don't). Over-oiling can clog the filter and make the engine not run well if at all.

Not significantly. It's sheltered, and even in heavy rain isn't going to attract much when riding. A little moisture getting through isn't an issue; it flashes off in combustion.

I've had bikes with pods, even ones living back in Vancouver and riding year round, and it was never really an issue. Your legs shelter from the sides, the engine from the front, the bike itself from above. If you're submerging the bike, well, that's a problem no matter what. But general rain isn't really an issue.

It is an '82 XS400 special. It ran from 77 to 82. I have drag bars, but left all the cables the original length. The horn bracket got flipped upside down so I could access it/install a new one. I made a bracket that attaches to the bar running down in front of the engine to hold to LED fog lights, run by an auxiliary switch. Painted and wrapped the headers and have emgo shorty mufflers. Emgo pod filters, and a puck-style filter for the breather tube nipple. Led tails, led indicator lights, Upgraded headlight. Point of note on the headlight, mine was a sealed beam halogen. So to add a new bulb you have to buy an aftermarket reflector housing from candlepower.

EDIT: Also forgot Oury grips, cafe mirrors, new fuel lines, fuel filter and vacuum tube.

whats the type you get?
I just did some googling, I think something like this:

is what I'd use.
The filter material I'm thinking of is very course, you can pretty much see through it. But servers that have been running for over 4 years with these filters in very dusty environments have kept running fine, (and the inside of the server is clean) but I need to wash the filter out almost every month because it will be caked with dust and dirt.

I can't find if your carb is Constant Velocity type though or not. If it is, a pod filter WITHOUT rejetting is a bad idea, and CV carbs NEED metered air to go into them, and the box meters the air. But pod + rejet = more power sooooo take it for what it's worth

Should be a 28mm intake, but you might want to measure just to confirm.

Cleaning the fuel tank = draining out all the gas. it hasn't sat for SUUUUPER long so just getting rid of the old gas should be enough. Once drained, pour in some new gas, slosh it around, and drain that out too.

I have no issue,being,told im wrong. But it needs to come with being shown the error in my ways. As you can see, this guy showed me that the filter can be had cheaper than I thought instead of just telling me I'm a cheap bastard.

That's only for the r56, as the airbox is at the rear of the engine bay squeezed behind the engine bay and the firewall. I've heard nothing but good things about it though, I don't think the rain would be an issue unless you were running under a waterfall. They do make dry filter wraps that you could use to prevent water intake if you're super worried though.


Although, i was thinking r53 vs r56s, i didn't notice this was for an r50.
