There are Bluetooth transmitters that he can hook up to that speaker jack (I just bought one for my mother's TV), but they need to be powered. Here's the one I bought. It's big but probably still easily small enough to fit on a motorcycle.

https://www.amazon.com/Avantree-Audikast-Bluetooth-Transmitter-Headphones/dp/B077MXFJGQ/ref=sr_1_3?crid=EE7IX7OEDVOI&keywords=audikast+bluetooth+transmitter+for+tv&qid=1557076940&s=electronics&sprefix=audikast%2Cmobile%2C237&sr=1-3

This particular device gets its power via USB, and it looks like this thing can be hooked to his battery:

Good luck!

RAM mount.

Lifeproof case.

Waterproof/waterproof-able USB port adapter.

I use it as a backup GPS. You can pair it with various devices and helmet bluetooth gizmos, to make and take calls, etc. I don't mess with any of that, some folks do and like it. For music I use standard earplugs and an old-school iPod Classic, Babydriver style.

It seems like you might be overthinking this, and I'm not sure building your own charging circuit is a great idea anyway. Just buy a cheap float charger and hook it permanently to the batteries. When it's plugged into AC power it'll help supply the batteries, and when it gets unplugged it'll sit there harmlessly with no outside switching.

Edit: I used this charger in my boom box build, and recommend it very strongly. I checked the output on an oscilloscope, and it's unbelievably clean and well-regulated. You just wire it to the battery, wire the battery to the load, and everything magically works. The charger doesn't care whether the battery is being used while it's being charged, the load can't tell what source it's being supplied from, and all you need to do is put a power switch between the battery and amplifier so you don't drain it in storage.

Like this. Maybe add a couple fuses, one on the AC input and one between the battery and amplifier.

I would recommend this instead: Amazon

The one you suggested comes with two USB ports, however they split the amps so the first one provides 2.1 amps and the second 1 amp. A typical smart phone needs about 1.4 Amps to charge, so the second USB (1 amp) is useless. I initially bought the same one you suggested and after an hour of use the amps on both ports started dropping down, rendering the charger useless.

Using single 3.1 amps USB port X2 (yes, buy 2) allows me to connect both the camera and the phone at the same time. I went on a 5 day trip while keeping both ports in use and they never dropped the juice.

You can get a usb outlet on Amazon that connects directly to your battery for less than $15! That's what I did.

u/Aedelmann · 2 pointsr/Dualsport

That's a good point. Luckily I don't necessarily use my handlebar charger to charge my phone, I really just use it to keep my phone "topped off" as I usually start riding with a full battery and just rely on the charger to keep it charged while running GPS and what not. I'm considering trying this piece instead as it looks pretty high quality and puts out 3.1A.

u/GoneSilent · 2 pointsr/solar

the IOTA is just a charger, plug into generator(120v) and it has two cable locations for output, + and - you connect direct to your battery bank.

You can find these cheaper on ebay, 40amp 24volt https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01BMXYBOO/

Not familiar with the options for cruisers but these look good. You want something that is detachable easily. If you intend to ride in the wet, maybe something that is waterproof would be good.

Stick with the full face helmet. While you won't look as cool, your chin will fare better if you ever do come off.

RAM mounts are the best in my opinion for mounting cellphones and other devices. The flexibility of mounting options and the various holders are just awesome. I've ridden some seriously bumpy roads with the X grab thingy and my iPhone 6s plus and it never looked like it was going to shake loose. There are a multitude of options.

Windscreens are a double edged sword. They definitely reduce fatigue but they also reduce airflow, and on a hot day can make it too warm. Suggest getting one that doesn't completely cut off the airflow at 70mph. Just a little air hitting your helmet is good.

Would suggest adding a USB adapter/SAE charging plug. Hook up directly to the battery, so you can use a trickle charger when the bike is not being ridden for more than a few days. Nothing worse than coming to a bike with a flat battery :-(

I have a walmart 12v 2a car adapter which provides the 5volts the pi needs. I have an Astron RS20M powering the shack. The converter is branded GoXT and it's model number is 10920. Amazon has them for the same price I paid at Walmart. Here is a link for you my friend. https://www.amazon.com/GOXT-10920-12V-4-Device-Charger/dp/B004GMTYZ0

I use one of these, it keeps an IPad mini, screen on, with nav charged. MOTOPOWER 0609A 3.1Amp Motorcycle USB Charger Kit SAE to USB Adapter https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01DYE54LI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_i_awgdBbQ5T8RBQ

I'm using this weather-resistant one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01HEJVXUK

It's hooked up to a fused SAE connector under the seat. I leave it connected all the time and it charges my phone just fine even when using GPS and screen on.

This + a Ram Mount = comfort and convenience.

Cheers I got that one. It is a best seller on Amazon!

These are rock solid, have on 3 dualsports. Pressure wash after each outing and they they have been working fine after over a year.
I put them facing up, mounted to the center of the upper clamp with 3M VHB tape. Bonus feature is you can unplug at the SAE connector and attach a battery maintainer if desired.
I use LI-PO batteries and see no parasitic draw even when the bike sits for 2-3 weeks.
I also ordered some 1 ft USB cables to go from the power port to the phone / device so I didn't have 3 feet of cable to deal with.

I bought a ram mount and a separate charging port for mine. Paid about 60 bucks for both. They just came in yesterday so can't speak for how well it works cause I haven't mounted it and installed it but it looks pretty solid. Here is the charging port I bought

Hola, sorry about being late to the party. So I operate 100% mobile (not by choice) so I use 12v batteries often. What I did was contact home alarm companies to get 12v 7ahr batteries. For the most part, they give them away for free since in many states, they need to pay to dispose of them. So by giving you the battery (which in most cases are rarely used in the home alarm), they save money. If you get two, that is a couple of hours of operating time on them at full power.

Once you have that, amazon sells cheaper 12v battery trickle chargers that charge them up pretty quick. https://www.amazon.com/Mroinge-Automotive-Maintainer-Automatic-Motorcycle/dp/B010NRKERI/ref=sr_1_13?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1540986230&sr=1-13&keywords=battery+tender You can try this route to see if this type of mode is good for you before plunking down more money on Bioenno batteries and their chargers which are lighter.

Is the battery just low so bump starting is a permanent fix or did I trash the battery so I need a new one eventually?

I have AAA - Can they jump a motorcycle? Also, I'll probably need a tender for the winter here - Do you have a cheap one you'd recommend off Amazon? I see this one and I have the black rectangular adapter already hooked into my battery (the usb I bought used it in case I'd ever need a tender lol convenient) - https://www.amazon.com/Mroinge-Automotive-Maintainer-Automatic-Motorcycle/dp/B010NRKERI/ref=sr_1_7?keywords=battery+tender&qid=1564966030&s=gateway&smid=A231WKUWLTWVRP&sr=8-7

Thank you for your reply. Very insightful.

You are correct, I'm running two 6v batteries in series for a 12v output.

is this the sort of thing you're talking about?

u/Tom_Wheeler · 0 pointsr/motorcycles

That's a ton of work. I just put a double USB charger on my bar. Waterproof and comes with a voltage meter. $16
