Sigh... Ten bucks cheaper, five minutes worth of work, and no worry of staining/peeling/gross texture.

Let's not turn r/frugal/ into r/lifeprotips/ .

It's a horrible thing to have to deal with. Sometimes the anger comes from confusion, fear, anxiety, and sometimes it just springs out of nowhere. I would consider talking to his doctor about pharmaceutical options. While often they are held back due to the possibility of adding confusion, they are often prescribed when the agitation starts to effect daily life. Again this is something for a doctor to decide, but often Ativan or Kolonopin is prescribed. Also right after diagnosis my SO was put on a mild antidepressant. Alzheimer's is strange in that generally speaking it's seen (incorrectly) as a product of being old, and almost just a fact of life. Let's not beat around the bush, Alzheimer's is a deadly disease of which there is no cure. It is a depressing diagnosis both for him and you.

My SO once described the feeling he got on a bad day (early on) he said it was like the morning after drinking a lot, but worse. You wake up and nothing looks right. Your in a bed, but you don't know this bed. The room looks wrong, is it yours? People you don't really know are acting like they are your friends and telling you what to do, you don't really understand what they want, but damn it what gives them the right?

All those little annoyances added up combined with the fear you feel when nothing makes sense, turns him into a very angry person. Perhaps it kicks in the "fight or flight" response.

As for the mess, consider something to cover his chair. Something like this:
Sure Fit 1 Piece Quilted Sofa Suede Waterproof Pet Cover Chair, Taupe https://www.amazon.com/dp/B009GRKLP2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awd_2RdNwbYFHMBG8

I'm afraid to say the messiness gets worse, but if you prepare for it you can manage.

I think the color of the wood goes really well with the black accent wall, and the other pieces are a bit more neutral. There is apparently such a thing as a headboard slipcover, basically a fabric bag for just the headboard. It seems like something you could make on the cheap if you are a bit handy, otherwise one
two.

My friend got her chair covers on Amazon really cheap.

I'll double check the link, but they were so cheap we tossed them after

Main issues: 1) furniture layout, 2) couch cover, 3) color theme/decor, and 4) ceiling light.

  1. Here is my guess at your current layout. It's not very balanced and all pushed on one wall. The radiator is also a bit of a challenge because you probably don't want to put anything in front of it. I would replace the shelf with something skinnier and taller, maybe a ladder shelf, and use the cabinet as a side table to the couch, which then would let you move the desk further down the wall, like so (could also add a chair to the desk).

  2. I don't know if it's to protect the couch or if the couch is just in poor condition, but using a real couch cover instead of a blanket would help. Maybe a light grey or white.

  3. Black, brown, and beige is a kinda meh color theme. I would choose 1 or 2 colors you like and add accents that contain those colors. To make it easy, lets go with blue. Get a couple solid blue or patterned throw pillows for the couch. A couple plants around the room (shelf, side table, coffee table, tv console) would really liven the place up, but also think about colorful vases or statues or lamps. A nice lamp on the side table would be nice (check local thrift stores for a good deal). Get at least 1 large picture/painting (or could be a multi-panel piece) above the couch and one on the wall to the left of the couch. Could be something simple and abstract or nature or prints or a mirror. Use them as a place to add color and personal style. (Maybe an elevated crazy dog lady piece lol.) You could also do a rug under the couch and coffee table, but it's not necessary.

  4. The light could be a major statement or more subtle. Having other lamps in the room would help with overall lighting. A walk through your local home improvement store may be helpful in finding what you like, but here are some directions you could go in: fancy/formal feeling light, modern and geometric, home-y, ceiling fan, simple and understated.

Yeah! Well! Mine has a nice chair.

How many hours are you going to have to work over the 24 hours?

^(Yes, I want more screens :( )

u/Seerws · 3 pointsr/funny

Now all it needs is some stool softener.

This one here is the one i got about a year ago, i not longer have cats so I'm not sure how it will hold up against them. Regardless i think it looks better than having a ripped up chair.

Personally I cant recommend you a chair set but I can definately tell you how to get the most out of your chairs now or your future ones.

As the parent of a toddler these are a life saver:

TIKAMI Dining Room Spandex Stretch Printed Chair Slipcovers (4, Gold Flower) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01A6J6JD6/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_u9b1xbADKZBED

My chairs are solid wood and have fabric on the seat. My toddler has sticky fingers and cleaning the chairs every meal is a bitch.

These protect my chairs and keep them looking nice until I trust my kid not to ruin them.

Also machine washable and amazon prime free returns? Yes please.

We’ve been meaning to talk to you about the state of your couch. You should think about looking into one of these..

u/MavRP · 2 pointsr/minimalism

We use futon covers for all of our futons (from Japan). Something like this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B015QJFPBS/ref=twister_B015QJPDJM?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 You could also sew two sheets together on 3 sides and put some buttons on the 4th side.

Yeah I should have left the discussion to NFL couches.

I'd go for a well built, comfortable, cosmetically imperfect couch (they are cheaper). Then throw some of these on:

And you don't have to freak out about your $2,000 couch getting ruined because you had a rough night of IPA's and broken chip nachos.

I don't know if you'd consider a gift card towards a larger gift. I just picked out a slipcover for my mom. My dad died two months ago yesterday and I have been spending hours at a time cleaning their house (they both have serious hoarding issues). and I'd love to give her ugly old loveseat a pick-me-up.

Thank you for the contest!
