Wool socks.

Seriously, they should be the very first thing you should buy. Even good boots will give you blisters if you've got cotton socks sopping up all of your sweat and rubbing your feet raw.

These are the ones that I use.

u/riottype6 · 3 pointsr/malefashionadvice

Or if you want to keep your feet/shoes a little fresher, something like these.

Big ups to Gold Toe Windsor (wool blend) and Canterbury (cotton blend) lines of over the calf sock. Super comfortable, not too thick, and reasonably priced.

White Hanes Crew Socks.

I buy two packs every year or two and throw away the old ones. I have one pair that is tie dyed, got them from an old lover but those are basically my laundry day socks. I have a few pairs of thick wool socks, but they are too thick for my boots.

Beat up boat shoes look better than new boat shoes.

If you really wanted to keep them looking as new as possible for as long as possible, just get a leather cleaner/conditioner and apply, following the directions, once every 2-4 weeks or less. It will keep the leather hydrated, darken it up slightly, but help to clean off dirt that has settled in as well. I do this but only when the leather starts to get scuffed. A less strenuous maintenance would be to just buy a horse hair brush and brush them off every few wears.

About now wearing socks: don't do it. Get cedar shoe trees--they help absorb the moisture and deodorize. I'm pretty sure newspaper also serves the same purpose, but smells nowhere near as beautiful as cedar. Also, boat shoe socks.

A free house elf!

Ears

Potato Sack

Socks

I’d dirty up the socks a bit and trash the potato sack. Put one sock on and the ears and hold the other sock triumphantly as I proclaim myself a free elf.

They've also got Larry, Dennis, Dr J

I'm a huge fan of [these no-show socks](http://www.amazon.com/SHEEC-SoleHugger-ACTIVE-3-Pair-No-Show/dp/B00ARHJUHU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1397942865. 6 pairs pretty much covers me. They're super comfortable and fairly thick (compared to all of the absurdly thin loafer socks I've tried).

I have this issue too with most socks. Specifically, all the cheap socks I picked up at Target. I bought some Goldtoe Windsor Wool OTC Socks and have had no issues with the heel part of the sock sticking out. I think $19 from Amazon for a 3-pack of a wool-blend sock is quite the steal :-)

pack layers and you can shed as needed: heres my layout

Base Layer:

I try to avoid cotton stuff cause of chafing, highly recommend exofficio if thats an issue.

runner leggings/thermal leggings

long sleeve work out material shirt/ thermal shirt

smartwool socks! smartwool is the best. I use it for backpacking too.

Second Layer:

arctix snow bibs from amazon : 40 (You want snow pants/bibs. getting snow all down your pants/up your back is awful.)

A flannel or other heavy shirt type

Third:

I have wantando jacket (70 from amazon) reeeealy warm. Hardly have worn it out and its been like 10-15 on the mountain. Id imagine I could wear it down to zero.

A lighter waterproof jacket incase the heavy jacket is too much.

Gloves: Get some nice waterproof insulated gloves and glove liners.

Might not be bulk enough but I got these from Amazon and they work fine, has a grip on the back to keep it in place.

I've been pretty satisfied with these. Not merino, but v white.

u/notarascal · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

(1). Not really. You can try and see how you like the look but don’t feel obligated. However, I would probably look for ways to not wear that shirt anymore.

(2.). Your friends are 100% correct. You should wear no-show socks if you’re wearing those shoes with shorts. If you’re wearing pants then you could wear no-shows, crew length, or mid calf length socks in interesting colors or patterns. Your look is appropriate for a suburban dad doing yard work. My favorite no-shows are from Falke

u/devonclaire · 1 pointr/running

I'm wearing these Puma socks. (I'm a woman, but I'm wearing men's socks...maybe that's my problem! Kidding.)

I actually have been to a running store, and I thought I was getting AMAZING shoes, but they seem to be causing me problems. I actually wrote a post in runnit just about that. The thing is, whenever I have a new problem show up on my feet, it seems to heal pretty quickly. It's only now I am realizing I'm having additional problems in different areas after the previous one heals. I think it's time to go back to the store.

I have 11.5 and have tried many many different socks but they all end up slipping (although I have no trouble with the size) except for these SHEEC socks. The large size says it goes all the way to 13 so maybe give it a try?

u/right2think · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

If you have a problem going without socks, look up liner socks. They're the best type of no-show socks imo.

u/PSORngr · 1 pointr/funny

You never wear socks with boat shoes and shorts (I guess you can get away with socks when wearing long pants, but still...) unless you are wearing socks like these.

And wtf is wrong with ankle? How do you show a creepy amount of ankle? Do you have a melt down any time someone walks past wearing flip-flops?

u/remarkably-clever · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

Shoe liner socks

I just get the women's shoe liners from Target.

u/ez617 · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

These cute socks!

Black dress socks? Goldtoe. I use these for work.

Edit: It's because they're pretty much indestructible.

u/shatonamime · 1 pointr/AdviceAnimals

oh thanks, this is the brand/size I like

Gloves: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B015WU52MI if you need dexterity

Socks: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000UZDAZC these are the thickest socks I've yet to see but layering is always key for socks

Boots: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001737BAG I swear by these. I've used them down to the ones and you can find them on Amazon warehouse for $30-40 fairly often

@coyney where can I get those socks?

Never mind I found them. One pair left here

Sock Liner: Gold Toe Dress Socks

Then just wear the issue wool socks over them.
