The wider the brim the better. Giant brim.

But in all honesty, a nice brim that's long enough where the shadow can cover down to my neck, then I'm good. Mainly these simple ones.

I have this hat in a "natural" color. I love it. Except every time I wear it some stranger tells me about their melonoma.

I bought this one. Inexpensive ($14) and very well made! I got lots of compliments on it.

YESSSSS HATS! Bring back hats! I love summer hats and winter hats. Fuck I love hats. They keep you so cool and protect you so much, and they’re cute as heck.

For summer, I wear a paper straw hat I got on Amazon with as adjustable chin strap. I wish more hats had these tbh, here in Chicago one strong breeze will blow your hat right off. I also have a collection of varying summery floppy hats from TJMaxx.

I bought this one a few years ago. I got it in black and it looks great... like I'm in the cast of American Horror Story: Coven 😎

Ooooh following. But my plans this far are:

2 SPF products - my usual Biore Watery Essence every morning and a Neutrogena spf 100 face milk for the really big exposure days. (Different, thicker, sunscreen for the rest of me)

I also bought an awesome sun hat that came with an attachable scarf that covers my neck and secured under my chin - very little left to exposure.

Coola Radical Recovery After Sun Lotion

Plan to not use my chemical exfoliants or retinol this week. Only active I plan on is my vit C, and CeraVe PM mixed with squalane. Generally just gonna be about cleansing, moisturizing and protection!

Edited to add: here’s a link to the hat. It’s adjustable, easy to pack, and secured in the back like a ball cap so my hair can be up and pulled through (more secure in wind!).

Not exactly a knockoff. I have the black one and the tan one. Love them. The wire is floppier than it looks in the picture and I'm not sure you can get it to stand up like the models (for this or the Jacquemus original). But you can shape it into lots of cute shapes. Wearing it folded like an oversized bonnet for maximum sun protection actually looks surprisingly cute. The hat is so big that even if it's flopped around your head and neck, it still has a roughly circular silhouette. If you really wanted the edge to be stiffer, I'm sure you could replace the wire or otherwise alter the hat to make it stiffer.

Oo! This sounds so fun! Matching swimsuits/bikinis (bonus points for crazy colors, flamingos, etc to be “on theme”, Target has great inexpensive swimsuits), a personalized tumbler or wine glass (something like this is metal to make it easy to pack), funky towel, one of those waterproof phone bags in a fun color, a sexy swim cover up, a coconut bra (haha), massage oil set (put the husbands to work!), crazy sunglasses (1, 2, 3), a tropical pajama set, an oversized floppy hat (1, 2, 3). Have fun!!

Try something like this. It’s what 18th century women wore on top of their sculptural hair without messing it up. You can have any hair or sized head and still be able to wear it.

u/tiabeast · 9 pointsr/scacjdiscussion

coverage is honestly the best thing you could do for your skin. this style suit with a wide brim hat are the best ways to protect yourself from sun damage.

fyi: i absolutely love the sun. i used to sit out at the beach all day with only coconut oil for spf and would never burn. since incorporating actives and heavy-hitting sun protection, i’ve noticed a transformation in my skin. no new freckles, lines or sun spots. dewey complexion. while i occasionally miss my formerly bronzed skin, i do not miss the rough texture, wrinkles, or itchy-tight feeling i used to get after baking.

u/defnotmy3rdaccount · 7 pointsr/touhou

this or something similar, plus some yellow ribbon is all you need.

u/existentialmishka · 7 pointsr/AsianBeauty

Amazon has a lot of different style options, they come up when you type "upf hat" or "sun hat" or terms like that. I just got one that has a really wide, broad brim and goes down on the head pretty low which is great, plus it has this scarf thing attached to it which covers the back of your neck, and can clip in the front to cover the front of the neck! This was very exciting for me haha. It's this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01HAA3KKE/

u/mastiii · 7 pointsr/AsianBeauty

I went from not owning a hat to owning two, and I want another one.

Not the most fashionable, but my top priority is being able to stuff it in my purse. Here's one I own in a neutral color and this one in the navy blue with flowers under the brim. I'm thinking of adding another hat, one that's bigger but doesn't have to fit in a purse. This one's a classic or this is cute.

Buy a sunscreen from their approved lists or at least one that isn't above a '5'.

Also, you need a hat. A really awesome, floppy gardeners hat. I have this, but it's probably a little big for your needs. However, the company, San Diego Hat Company, makes hats that have sun protection built in. Can't beat that.

ETA: To remove, use actual face wipes first, not baby wipes. Like the kind made by Dove or Neutrogena. Then use a very gentle, mild cleanser. Then a hydrating moisturizer, like something with Hyaluronic Acid in it. Hyaluronic Acid is incredibly moisturizing and pretty safe for sensitive skin. Once a week or so, use a moisturizing mask with 'brightening' properties. You should be set with that!

East Coast Mid Atlantic region perspective

The first thing that comes to mind is flip flops. You could probably also find a slide sandal that's quite casual. Gladiators, leatherish, and most statement shoes wouldn't fit in as well where I'm from. It's not my thing, but sockless vans, keds, converse, etc are also fair game. Sanuks, Rainbows, Reefs, etc. have had their peaks and valleys for trendiness, but remain popular across age groups.

IME in a beach town, a lot of the look comes not from buying beach clothes, but from re-purposing clothing for the beach lifestyle. Old sweat pants and jeans become cut-offs. Brothers' outgrown sweatshirts get the necks cut off and a button down with a stain that won't come out is now a cover up. Of course, there are resort and surf brands that also contribute to the dominant fashions where I'm from. And non beach-influenced fashion lines that are popular tend to be more casual or familiar.

Locals wear a lot of tunics and dresses that can be worn at a casual bar/restaurant and the beach alike. But that's really closely tied to my particular beach culture, where you head off on your bike in the morning and you end up going from house to house and you never know if you'll be taking a real shower or where the day will bring you.

Visors are more popular than most would imagine, especially baseball cap styles and straw styles, but not the plastic-y kind. Sun hats borrow a good deal of inspiration from lifeguards, boaters, and fishers, and general beach goers, but I can't remember the last time I've seen an actual large floppy hat. [This] (https://www.amazon.com/Lanzom-Womens-Bowknot-Straw-Foldable/dp/B06XXXQXLN/ref=sr_1_14?s=apparel&ie=UTF8&qid=1523827177&sr=1-14&nodeID=7141123011&psd=1&keywords=floppy+hat) would be a bit much where I'm from.

Swimwear is typically more surf-shop and less pool-side looking. In the 25+ crowd I see more classic one pieces and fewer monokinis. Two pieces tend to range from revealing to more full coverage, but included a lot of surf and floral prints, solid colors, classic patterns (dots and stripes). It's pretty common to have mismatched yet coordinated tops and bottoms. Bottoms are more likely to be solid than tops, since they may have to match both the top of the suit and a rash guard.

A good pair of white jeans or other simple, opaque, white pants screams beachy to me. And fits in with a Miami or New England look depended on how you dress it up or down.

And the most important feature of the beachwear I'm most familiar with is that you keep it for years. Sometimes decades. Not the most fashion forward, but it's also the norm. I think there is something about living in an area where the population and lifestyles fluctuate so much on the off and on seasons that it effects the way you experience seasons and the passing of time. I can't put my finger on it, but I think it has something to do with how off-trend we can seem from the outside.

I was a big fan of Hawaiian print short sleeve button downs when I was a kid and they had a resurgence, and there are one or two I still wear, but I think Hawaiian print had more staying power on a bathing suit or dress. The drawback there is that dresses and bathing suits may be more expensive, and if you DO change your mind about them, you may not get as many wears out of them. Hibiscus prints are a little more common and less trendy, perhaps because they actually grow up and down the east coast.

Finally somewhere I can help--at least if you're in the US! I have the same problem. Even the size large hats from REI leave dents on my forehead, which is not a desirable look. I finally found hats on an Amazon. I have the Milani one in a couple of colors: https://www.amazon.com/Milani-Womens-Packable-Versatile-Summer/dp/B00LSZXGNO/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1467570723&sr=8-2&keywords=Milani+hat

I also have the Scala big-brimmed hat: https://www.amazon.com/Scala-Womens-Cotton-Black-Size/dp/B0029F269M/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1467573609&sr=8-1&keywords=Scala+hat

Both hats fold up to get stuffed in a purse and unfold to look just fine. If your head is not as oversized as mine, there's a drawstring inside both that you can adjust. Since I'm almost a human bobblehead, I removed the drawstrings for extra space.

The final thing I love about them is that you can position the brim exactly how you want it, and it will stay. I keep it down when walking around but fold up the front brim a tiny bit when talking to people or for driving.

The Simplicity cotton bucket hat also works for large heads and features the same positionable brim as the Milani and Scala ones. Honestly, I think all three may be made by the same manufacturer. https://www.amazon.com/Simplicity-Summer-Cotton-Bucket-Fold-Up/dp/B00JVBDSUS/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1467573968&sr=8-3&keywords=Simplicity+hat

I'm a fan of those big, floppy straw hats. Like this Wore one almost every day in my beach vacay to the DR. Also staying in the shade as much as you can & finding a cute cover up.

u/glycolic_aholic · 3 pointsr/30PlusSkinCare

Certainly! The hat/scarf thing is this. It wears like a wide baseball cap, so it’s adjustable and I can pull my ponytail through to further keep it secure if it’s windy. The scarf secures to the hat and even has a snap that can secure under the chin.

The headband brand escapes me but it’s similar to these. They are very wide - when folded in half and placed around my head (under hair, over forehead), it reaches from my eyebrows to the back crown of my head. I’ve also used it around my neck while driving just for extra UV coverage if I’ve not gotten my sunscreen on just yet.

u/Saga_I_Sig · 3 pointsr/ABCJ

The hats can be a bit hit-or-miss in terms of fit, but I have this one and this one that fit me well. What I do with Siggi is always order through Prime, so I can return them if I need to.

If you're concerned, there are other brands that are adjustable like this visor or this other visor or this hat that fit a wider range of head sizes. These are all in my shopping cart to buy in the future.

There are a lot of recs on this thread from r/femalefashionadvice. Some of the links are outdated, but I found it was able to lead me to other good hats on Amazon, like this one or this one

u/casualtweed · 2 pointsr/30PlusSkinCare

I wear an epically huge wide brimmed visor, which covers my ears, most of my scalp and allows for a pony tail. Similar to these.

WORTH IT!!

u/Treat_Choself · 2 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

Hats are the best! I'm a hat queen though, because I've had several melanomas. Wallaroo makes some of my favorite "cute" hats - search for them on other websites too for the best price, as some are a little spendy. If you don't want to spend that much, you can usually find older or discontinued styles for much less on Amazon or Sierra Trading Post (which has amazing deals if you find a good coupon) by searching for "upf hat." Outdoor Research makes some great, lightweight and crushable hats that are priced really well on STP in particular. Oh, and I just got this hat and while it totally makes you look like a farmer, it is reasonably cute and the price is right. Feel free to ask me more questions - I think I'm at about 25 different sun hats at this point.

ETA: And if a hat fits properly, it shouldn't interfere with your glasses. I wear contacts most of the time with HUGE vintage sunglasses from the 70s (they're cool, I swear) and have never had a problem wearing those or my regular glasses with a hat.

Hats!!

I just recently bought my very first hat that I actually enjoy! I ordered this from Amazon and I've fallen in love with it. I call it my Winona Ryder hat. It's great for the summer heat, and protects my sad, pale, Irish skin. Every once in a while I'll clip feathers or silk flowers to the band and it's really cute. It's also pretty versatile for more 'normal' days.

u/ABJanet · 1 pointr/SkincareAddiction

Well, if you don't mind looking odd, you could try a hat with a face cover like this one: https://www.amazon.com/360%C2%B0UV-Protection-Garden-Outdoor-Fishing/dp/B07PYW6DP6/ref=mp_s_a_1_15?keywords=upf+hat+cover+face&qid=1563768739&s=gateway&sr=8-15

At least, it would get you by until you find your HG sunscreen, so you don't have to miss out on any family time in the meanwhile.

u/jadorelechocolat · 1 pointr/SkincareAddiction

I highly recommend these Scala large-brim hats
The black one makes you look like you're going to breakfast at Tiffany's and the rest of the colours are great too. The best part is they are foldable and when you unfold them they still hold a great shape. I've had mine for at least two years now and they still look great. Just don't put them in the dryer because that's how my red one became a smaller brimmed hat.

u/vector78 · 1 pointr/adventuretime

Thank you! It's from Amazon. You can buy it [here] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00UVSL0RI/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1). I bought the color "natural". The blue ribbon is just something I bought and added to it to give the Marceline look.
