What about sending it in a thermos? My kiddo is almost 2 and we send milk to daycare with her in the thermos funtainer. It keeps things cold for 12 hours so they could just store it outside the fridge if it is a huge problem. Thermos Funtainer 12 Ounce Bottle, Blue https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00DAPQV0K/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_6BMezbEJ2XCYC

If you are worried about this not keeping the milk cold enough what about sending the milk in something like this but packing it in a lunch box with ice packs. All of that can be compact and kept outside a fridge.

Sorry daycare isn't working with you on this.

The Zojirushi has been bulletproof for me over the years. I have the metallic dark brown color. It locks securely and the 12oz is perfect for me. You can get bigger ones of course. Mine has been dropped, dropped, and dropped some more and still works great.

I prefer these Zojirushis to Hydro Flask:

The Corningware one is a piece of crap. It's meant for soup and even then doesn't do a good job. I don't reccommend it at all. (Source: used to work in a Corningware store.)

Perhaps a lined metal bottle? I had a Laken brand aluminum bottle and because it had some sort of lining, my water didn't taste funny after a while. I assume it would work well for coffee as well.

David's Tea has a glass travel mug that's leakproof.

Starbucks has a ceramic travel mug (stainless steel on the outside) but it has a lot of bad reviews.

I bet you'd find something that would work for you at a Homegoods store. They seem to have lots of random stuff that might fit the bill.

Honestly, this is the travel mug I use and it's amazing. I lived in Chicago during the coldest winter most of the midwest has seen in over twenty years. It got down to -40F and that was on a good day. With this mug, my tea that I made in the morning was too hot to drink even hours later unless I opened the bottle and let it cool down at work. And I commute by bike and train. So I'm out a lot.

I know way too much about travel beverage containers for my own good.

I have two Fifty/Fiftys, a Kleen Kanteen, and and two un-insulated Stanleys. I would give the Kleen Kanteen the edge over the Fifty/Fifty just because I like the clasp top and I think the narrower opening pours a little better. I got mine on a killer deal for Amazon Prime members a while ago. I don't know if I'd shell out $50 for one.

If I could only have one growler, it would be the insulated Stanley. The handle on the Stanley makes pouring sooo much easier. I can't speak to the insulating quality of the Stanley, but I always bring my un-insulated growlers when the weather cools down.

You only need one if you need a tea pot to keep tea hot for longer periods of time. Honestly, a vacuum sealed tea thermos does a better job. http://www.amazon.com/Thermos-Vacuum-Insulated-Stainless-51-Ounce/dp/B00JKMF5C2/ref=sr_1_9?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1420668613&sr=1-9&keywords=tea+thermos

Best price I've seen for Cast Iron tea pots is at World Market ~ $ 25 http://www.worldmarket.com/product/green-cast-iron-teapot.do?&refType=&from=Search pretty much the same as the $200 ones at Teavana.

u/Activeangel · 3 pointsr/BuyItForLife

I’ve been thinking this same question. Seeing these on this sub all the time, I checked amazon a while back and noticed they are only ~$20-30... not very expensive, definitely worth the price.

I have more growlers than I can count (both 64 oz and 32 oz) so I always do that for parties, homebrew club meetings etc. I recommend getting the swing top ones that are insulated. The Stanley growlers are fantastic. You can fill it off you're keg and it will stay cold all day.

Another option is using carbonation caps to fill 1L or 2L soda bottles. If you hit it with CO2 it will stay good for at least a few weeks without opening. I drink a ton of seltzer water so I always have 1L plastic bottles around.

u/panafoot · 3 pointsr/CampingandHiking

My husband and I both love our Zojirushi thermos. They call it a "mug" because it is easy to drink out of. It keeps beverages hot for a long time. I make my morning Chai tea in it the night before and enjoy it comfortably hot about 10 hours later.

So, because biian's bag comment inspired me, I was thinking of some non-makeup stuff that'd I'd love to buy if, you know, I had no debts and an unlimited budget. These are things I love even though I don't have them :P

  • The The OMG tote I mentioned in my comment-on-her-comment.
  • This Rose-Gold watch from Fossil. I love Fossil; they gave good bags, but because I'm not into bags, I'd rather have one bag that can be professional if need be but fine for casual use too, hence why I'm not pining after one. That said, I FUCKING LOVE my Emory Clutch
  • I drink coffee and tea, and currently have a double-walled Tervis tumbler to bring it with me in the mornings. That's fine for one cup. My office's office is swill, so I'd prefer to bring more and keep it hot. This thermos from Zojirushi is a thing of beauty is is also apparently a boss at keeping things hot for a long time. Here are other colors!

u/MattM462 · 3 pointsr/Coffee

I use a Thermos Backpack Bottle. I like the spout for drinking and how it fits in my bag. I haven't really pushed the limits, but my coffee stays warm long enough for me.

u/wgstenjuls · 3 pointsr/forestry

I have a good-quality vacuum-insulated thermos that does the trick (like this one). I keep tea or soup in mine, and it will stay hot from about 7:00 AM to about 4:00 PM in -20 degrees C. It gets colder faster the more you have it open and the emptier it gets, so if you want super hot coffee at the end of the day, you might want to make it in a moka pot or something.

u/Bleepity_Bloop · 3 pointsr/AskCulinary

My Thermos brand thermos is advertised to keep liquids hot for 12 hours and cold for 24. While I'm not going to stand 100% behind those numbers, it at least shows that the thermos keeps liquids cold longer than it keeps them hot.

100% agree with /u/GardenerSpyTailorAss that there's a reason good thermoses are more expensive. The cheap ones generally suck and don't last.

Here's the one I've been using for a few years and it still works great: https://www.amazon.com/Thermos-Stainless-Compact-Bottle-Midnight/dp/B0017IHRNC/ref=sr_1_4?m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&s=kitchen&srs=2530615011&ie=UTF8&qid=1502196151&sr=1-4&keywords=thermos+beverage+bottles&refinements=p_89%3AThermos%2Cp_6%3AATVPDKIKX0DER

> I need a lunch or bentobox that can last for 12 or so hours with up to 4 small meals (there can be multiple of 1 item)

Zojirushi insulated bento. Kleen Kanteen also has food canisters but I personally like the option of being able to microwave the lunch container if need be.

> I need a light-weight thermos, preferably one that won't sweat/condense on the outside

Insulated Kleen Kanteen.

> An ultra warm, compact jacket (would this be synthetic down? I'm not sure)

I've personally been eying North Face's Thermoball parka, but it depends how warm you really need.

> A bag to put all of this stuff in? I have a timbuk2 bag that I got on sale, but I don't expect it to be the end-all-be-all

I recommend a backpack, but I'm old and have shoulder/neck problems.

> A wallet that I can use my RFID-enabled BART card with, but that isn't 2-3" thick (I currently use a clamshell wallet that I picked up at Ace Hardware, lol)

I like keeping my commuter card on a lanyard looped to an outside strap of my bag so I don't have to dig through pockets for it -- I just yank on the lanyard to pull it out.

u/SteakAppliedSciences · 3 pointsr/BuyItForLife

If you want the name brand go for one like this.

If you don't mind a Stanley version grab this one.

Edit: I have to mention, when you first buy a thermos boil a pot of water and pour it into the container, close it and wait 30 minutes. If you can feel ANY heat, return it and get another one. It should not radiate heat at all.

u/_McAngryPants_ · 3 pointsr/Portland

$23.30 if you have Amazon Prime and you don't mind your 5050 growler being white.

edit: white ones cheaper

u/taegan- · 3 pointsr/ketochow

i have this 2 QT (64 oz) Stanley thermos and like it a lot. its huge so a little unwieldy and hard to clean, but keeps stuff hot or cold well with a huge capacity.
i use it for an electrolyte soup thing i drink during fasting though.

for ketochow i bring a concentrated mix of 2 or 3 servings in one blender ball container. and i have another container for my coffee.
so i drink the coffee then i pour 1/3 (if it was 3 servings) of the concentrated ketochow mix into my coffee thermos, add more water, shake it up and drink. this is easier for me than bringing 3 blender bottles (or even my giant stanley) plus coffee thermos.

if you want a ~40 oz thermos stanley has a 35 oz and 45oz. I have no experience with the one you linked. good luck

u/MNichols45 · 3 pointsr/camping

Second this comment. I bought this five years ago and it still works great to this day. I snatch it off the kitchen counter when I go camping so it's my daily French press.

u/Lurkndog · 2 pointsr/bugout

I like the 32 ounce single walled stainless steel nalgene bottle. The one with straight walls is best because it nests snugly in the GSI/Walmart steels cup. Because it is single walled, you can boil water in it with a campfire. It is also the exact right size for a single dose of water purification tablets if you don't want to boil it.

It is hard to find now, Nalgene has switched to a tapered design closer to a tall coffee cup. That one rattles around in the GSI/Walmart cup, but apparently fits snugly inside the Stanley Adventure Camp Cook Kit.

Thermos for my after-workout shakes.

u/JuJuJuli · 2 pointsr/CampingGear

I understand, it sounds like you've taken the appropriate precautionary measures given your startup budget. I look forward to this kickstarter!

BTW, do you have full dimensions of the mug? Wondering if I could fit this into a bag I have, which can fit a breakfast burrito or a 12 oz water bottle but not this.

u/Bell_Biv_WillemDafoe · 2 pointsr/Coffee

Came here to say this. I got the 24 oz and I've burned my tongue on my coffee more than 4 hours later.

u/laserprisim · 2 pointsr/glasgow

This little guy has saved me a fortune over the past few months. I use it for soup, or leftover dinner from the night before. Wee bit pricey but you'll make that money back in a week!

u/craig_s_bell · 2 pointsr/BuyItForLife

We use the Thermos 16oz commuter bottle, AKA Nissan unbreakable backpack bottle. It's easy to open / close and drink one-handed, and the lock is very solid - just throw it in a bag and forget about it.
It keeps things hot or cold for quite a long time. My oldest bottle is 12 or 13 years old, and still works great.

u/optimist_dreamer · 2 pointsr/Buyingforbaby

I like the Thermos Foogo Straw Bottles. There is also the new but not released yet sipsnaps that fit any cup and you use your own straw. I believe you can preorder sip snaps now and they ship in august. I learned about sipsnap from their kickstarter campaign.

u/RRjr · 2 pointsr/electronic_cigarette

Did that, too, but I found that frothing the juice up with a milk frother a few times and then putting it in my trusty old thermo bottle with 60° celsius water for some 4 to 8 hours creates some really damn good juice and consumes no power aside from boiling up a little water.

My ultrasonic gave up third time around. Seems like the cheaper ones aren't made to run for long stretches. It's probably why they're programmed to 3 or 5 minute cycles.

The bottle keeps water hot for a long time. Some of my juices take a little longer until they taste their best but it's no problem since you can just refill some boiling water to bring it back up to 60° (using a thermometer).

I like this method more than ultrasonic since it's so lo-tech. Just dump the juice in the bottle, close it up and go do whatever. No powergrid involved so there's nothing to worry about. I wouldn't wanna leave the house with an ultrasonic or crockpot running.

u/TuguMonas · 2 pointsr/Coffee

The same thing I experienced with this Thermos brand

Have been thinking to do this for a while because I did made a huge mess for pouring too fast, definitely gonna do it soon thanks!

u/checkitoutmyfriend · 2 pointsr/BurningMan

I was looking at one of these..... Until I seen the Camelbak Forge posted up.. Decisions, Decisions.....

EDIT: Decision made! Camelbak Forge is ordered. I got stuck with one really nasty drink in my monster mug last year, smaller cup this year. Thanks /u/Mcbuffalopants !! :)

Oh don't get fooled by the Camelbak Forge DIVIDE. Its plastic on the inside, thus the reduced price.

They're pretty indestructible and you can have hot food where ever you are. I used one for several years and it would keep food hot for about 6-7 hours (fill it with boiling water for 5 minutes before putting your food in). Living off takeaways and supermarket sandwiches is not healthy and gets expensive.

A very powerful, small torch is a must have and a good investment.

Get used to sleeping with earplugs in. I use Moldex Sparkplugs and found they are one of the most comfortable and cheap if you buy 100 pairs at a time.

Make sure your family are aware that you need to sleep until late afternoon on night shifts and that being woken up at 2pm is not good.

And if you really want to look after yourself, take up Karate or Krav Maga or something. Officer safety training (self defence) is a joke and will not protect you in a proper fight.

u/projhex · 2 pointsr/beer

I have two of them, they are great. They drop below $25 pretty frequently. I think I got one for $18.

The Zojirushi insulated tiffin came to mind. I have one from the same brand, but not this model. The "soup bowls" it comes with will not leak. And because it's insulated, you won't need to reheat your food if you heat it in the morning. As for pickle, you could get one more very small box and keep it inside the "side bowl".

u/barabrith · 2 pointsr/MealPrepSunday

Not sure how effective these are, I don't have one but they have great rating. You could make pasta or soup and chuck it in one of these - Thermos Food Flask

u/Puntins · 2 pointsr/Parenting

We use this for water and this for cold drinks. Closing the tops pinches the straw, never had a leak, we love them.

u/birdman3131 · 2 pointsr/Rocknocker

Love your stories. Was a Malicious compliance reader and then found the subreddit and just read the entire demo days saga to date.

I used to run one of those mugs however these days I have upgraded to a better one.

It is a full gallon but is physically the same size or a hair smaller as the 100 oz ones as the walls are quite a bit thinner but ice lasts way longer. I have had ice last 3 days in it. Never had the plastic one keep ice past 24 hours and often not even then.

The handle was stolen off of my old 100 OZ mug and zip tied on although there are probably better ways to go about it if you want it to look better. The straw is the tubing for refrigerator ice makers. I get 25' for ~$6 at the hardware store. The mug itself is a RTIC 1 gallon vaccum insulated jug. (Half the time amazon is cheaper and the other half Rtic's site is.)

Obviously they’ll leak through the straw if left open and overturned. But closing them has never been a problem for us.

I just bought the champagne gold one for a few cents more. My sister loves my blue one so I'm going to give this to her.

Figured I'd post a few words. Took a pub fill of a hoppy wheat beer up into the mountains. Stored it in the fridge then a styrofoam cooler for about 48h before we drank it. That included about 24h with the cooler in the car. She capped it on foam. Couldn't notice any carbonation loss and the temperature of the beer was perfect.

u/dptt · 2 pointsr/tea

Honestly, I have this thing, and it keeps my tea hot for 6 hours and still pretty fricking hot for 8 and pretty dang warm for 12. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004VFHKUS Plus they're on sale right now!

Like, I usually have to lower the temp of my tea when I use it or else I can't drink it for the first two hours at all and have to leave the lid off until it cools down.

u/Ribeag · 2 pointsr/Coffee

You could try a clever dripper, great coffee, no pour over technique needed. Or I feel like an aeropress would be great even though I don't have one. Either way you would need some way to heat up water

But if you don't want to manually brew, If you bring in fresh ground beans, they would brew a far better pot in that machine than whatever packets they get you I'm sure.

If I were you though. I would manual brew at home with a kalita wave or your chemex, and just get yourself a really nice thermos http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00K7CZHK4/ref=sr_ph_1?qid=1458579568&sr=sr-1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=Thermos

Keeps coffee hot forever. Careful burning your tongue. Then I just use it for a water bottle all day

FYI - you can get these waaaay cheaper without the brewery branding on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Stanley-Classic-Growler-Hammertone-Green/dp/B00YPISRR6/ They also come in 32 oz sizes.

I've also seen them at Target for ~$35.

u/jimbolaya · 1 pointr/Parenting

There are many good suggestions here. My question is, "What does she currently eat?". I'd send her to school with items she currently eats everyday. I send my boys to preschool with dinner leftovers all the time. If they don't have a microwave, look into insulated containers. My kids love milk, so we found vacuum insulated funtainers for them, milk is nearly the same temp 10 hours later. $15 is a bunch of money for one, so I found some brand new ones on eBay for $7 each. They were Hannah Montana funtainers that became plain funtainers with some 120 grit sandpaper. If you introduce new foods I'd do that at home first before the surprise at preschool.

u/Lilliaan · 1 pointr/tea

I have travel mugs from David's tea. They have have the ones that unscrew on top, or flip open. They have kept my tea and other drink hot for hours and icy cold for just as long.

I would also recommend Zojirushi tumblers (like this one), they are excellent as well, or Thermos tumblers (like this).

Just decide on what kind of design you want, flip open or screw open top, and then which size fits you better, as in 12oz or 16 oz or 20 oz. Most of them are stainless steel inside which is excellent and most tops are easy to clean.

I would recommend travel mugs from any of those brands, as me and my family have used them, and the only reason i ever get a new one, is because i want a different color or different capacity.

u/neilz4 · 1 pointr/Coffee

Normally I just use one of my plethora of mugs that my wife and I have amassed over the last couple years. I only brew one cup at a time, and normally that's all I have time for before school in the morning, anyways.

I also prefer to taste the coffee through its cooling cycle because certain tasting notes amplify/tone down throughout the cool down, which mugs allow me to do. So there's that.

Other than that, I have this Thermos that keeps hot drinks hot (after preheating the Thermos, as per the directions) for more hours than I care for, which is why I don't use it. EDIT: It's super easy to clean with a bottle brush and hasn't leaked on me yet.

Just was on the hunt for something similar (besides a see through tumbler), but the Kyocera ceramic coated tumbler has been a godsend for me. I was trying to find something that wasn't stainless steel, as that affected the taste of the coffee big time for me, and with the ceramic coating, this was the perfect product for me. In terms of keeping your coffee iced and cold, it says it keeps drinks hot or cold for 6-12 hours. My reference is I once filled it up with ice water, and when I woke up the next morning, there was still ice in there.

u/TheBuzzerBeater · 1 pointr/Coachella

I really like these Stanley insulated growlers and they keep things hot/cold for 24 hours. When I've camped I usually use them to fill up with water and it's so refreshing to drink that I actually stay hydrated. Warm water in the heat is kinda gross. They're also great if you go to microbreweries. You can find some cheaper ones but this one has a nice handle and an easy open/close lid

I'm pre-cooking all of my meals for the week on Sunday. Baked chicken, pan-seared green beans, and baked sweet potato. Have one of these for water, and a (much) smaller one for coffee. Bought a five pound bag of pistachios at Costco for light snacking in between meals. And while I know it's not healthy, it's tradition - a case of Bawls.

I only managed to pull two days of vacation, though... so will only really be able to get ridiculous Tuesday and Wednesday.

u/bmzink · 1 pointr/Coffee

I've had excellent luck with this one for almost the same use cases. I've thrown it in my backpack on cycling and snowboarding trips and it's never leaked.

It can't be the same "thermos flip top" that you're already using because this thing keeps coffee hots for 12+ hours easily.

https://smile.amazon.com/Thermos-Ounce-Stainless-Commuter-Bottle/dp/B00K7CZHK4

Glass French presses are such a scam. Get a stainless steel vaccum insulated one. It'll keep your coffee warm for much longer and is basically break proof. Doesn't change the taste of the coffee at all.

This is what we own.

u/SuperEffectiveRawr · 1 pointr/london

I can vouch for the Thermos Stainless King Food Flask (470ml).

My old office had a no microwave policy (they took it away after someone heated up a fish curry which stunk out the whole office floor for 3 days or something) and this was a lifesaver. I microwaved the leftovers in the morning (7-8am) and they were still really hot by lunch (12-1).

u/FatZombieMama · 1 pointr/xxfitness

Bento boxes! This is my favorite (fits a TON of food, mostly leakproof unless you really shake it up or something) but one day I want to spring for this baby.

u/cheidiotou · 1 pointr/Coffee

I actually just looked for this myself. I got tired of having to regularly clean with stuff like Puro to keep the flavor pure (because dish soap isn't enough in the long term). I only looked on Amazon (lazy shopping) and decided on 17oz Kyocera mug. Among other reasons, I opted for this one because 1) part of Kyocera's business is to make ceramic materials and 2) it looked like it might have been the only one with the coating going all the way up to the lip. One thing that surprised me about it is that lining is black, not white. I could be completely off base, but a black ceramic coating makes me think of ceramic filled epoxies like Cerakote and KG. Not sure how I feel about that. Anyway, I'm trying it out for the first time this morning. If I remember to, I'll update on how it goes.

As far as other ones go...

The zojirushi ones look good but I've never tried one. Most seem to have a non-stick coating inside which might be ceramic-based but probably isn't (that's the kind of thing you'd likely state, unless you're protecting IP). My guess is it's going to be something like Teflon (note: not saying it is Teflon, just that it looks something like it), which serves the same purpose of preventing oil buildup. They also have an option for an electropolished steel lining, which would work OK, too, so long as you don't scratch the interior... ever.

The Fellow one... I wish I would have known about that. I would have bought that instead of the one I did. If this travel mug fails me, the Fellow is what I'll get as a replacement. The only design flaw I see with it is that the very wide mouth will make it cool much faster once you remove the lid, so re-capping will be important if you can't finish it in one sitting. 16oz is also limiting. Overall, though, that one checks the most boxes on paper.

I've had a Zojirushi travel mug for over a year (slightly different model). Been very happy with it. I chuck it in my bag filled with tea on the commute to work, and it does not leak. Once I didn't drink my tea all day at work, and the following day when I went to empty it out, the liquid was still hot. Also the design is gorgeous, if you care about that.

Is it necessary to break the bank, but it's important to control your water temperature. I cold brew a half gallon of coffee in a large thermos.

I've got a ceramic coated thermos (https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B071LLSWXK/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1). It helps, but if I don't drink it within an hour or two I still notice the flavor changes for the worse. I've seen people suggest increased oxidation while the coffee is still hot, but I don't know the science behind this to determine if there is any validity at all. u/coffeeadastra seems to take a pretty analytical approach to their coffee, I'd love if they had any input.

Get a good stainless steel thermos... I would recommend the Thermos Stainless King 24 Ounce Drink Bottle. I have enjoyed the water and coffee that has come out of this thermos for years. If you don't need something that big then I would recommend the Thermos Vacuum Insulated 18 Ounce Stainless Steel Hydration Bottle.

Also, if you like Starbucks take your thermos and ask them to put your drink in it. You will get ten cents off your drink...

What's the verdict on zip lock bags for carrying water ?

My son wouldn't do a sippy cup. We also went through a bunch of straw cups and he didn't like the spill proof ones because he had to work too hard to get anything out. And ones with straws that slid under a lid like this got moldy because I couldn't get in there to clean that well because the lid didn't come apart. We ended up with the Thermos Foogo, which he still uses at 2.5.

Why not get a 1 gallon jug so you don't have to refill over and over? I've been using this bad boy everyday.

Clearly not a brewery-issued one, but I have this one and it works great. Also only $27 from Amazon right now:
