He may not be connecting what he does in the bathtub to the potty seat because he's sitting on the potty and not standing in front of it.

I would encourage you to start using something like this in the bathtub with no water in it, then removing it to do the bath:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LQGY5VQ/ref=sxr_pa_click_within_right_2?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_p=2329824862&pf_rd_r=531NTS5A9GCDYP1YSBPB&pd_rd_wg=JUdxC&pf_rd_s=desktop-rhs-carousels&pf_rd_t=301&pd_rd_w=6g8D9&pf_rd_i=potty%2Btraining&pd_rd_r=HVYHP0Y7RV8GD94VYWS0&th=1

Once his "aim" is on-point, move it out of the bathtub and let him practice outside the tub. He'll get better (and taller), and then graduate to putting steps in front of your regular toilet.

Basically: let him learn to do it in a way that protects your bathroom. But if he's interested in it, let him do it!

If you have a son they sell little jugs? They look like water bottles but they’re emergency urinals used for hiking or long car trips usually.

Depending on the style, if you got one more open like this one it could be used for a little girl with a bit of help.

This doesn’t help you as much tho! Lol but it could work for the kiddos.

Disposable diaper, training pants, wool pants or wool soaker . Wool is magical for diapering, read the bullet points here

Can never go wrong with a squatty potty

We got our two year old girl a potty seat you put on the grown up toliet and a little set of stairs (like this but another brand). We heard this recommended at this little potty learning lecture a parent group had, the social worker suggested it was easier to just get them used to the big toilet from the beginning.

Worked well for us. For out of the house you can pack a little potty seat or as the social worker suggested I just held her on the adult toilet if we were at a grocery store or restaurant or something. This lead to her learning to hold herself, which she now does at almost three. She also now sometimes sits on the toilet without her seat or climbs up without her stairs to feel "bigger" but not always. So the transition is happening naturally.

Also, we don't have anything to clean. I don't want to have to dump and wash out a potty again and again.

We use a cloth pull up for nighttime. It’s usually dry- only wet once or twice a week- so I know she can hold it all night, but we value sleep more than potty training!!! We tried just using undies and she got so upset when she wet the bed one night it took her forever to get settled again. Likewise for waking her up (plus we also have a 5 month old so mama needs as much sleep as I can get!!).

We put undies on her under the cloth pull up so that if she doesn’t wet it, we can just use it again the next night. I used to use disposable pull ups but they get kind of crinkled after multiple wears (if they stay dry).

I figure eventually she won’t want to wear a giant cloth pull up with unicorns all over it and then we can deal with night time. Hopefully when baby sister is sleeping through the night!!! 🤞🏻

Here’s the one we found : Mother-Ease Bedwetter Training... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07FK6R8PH?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Put the diapers back on and try again in a few months. She might not be ready now. Potty training is developmental and it happens at different times for everyone. My girl just recently potty trained at 3 years and 3 months. She did it mostly on her own and just decided for herself. I got a princess potty that plays music when she pees in it and a Kitpotty princess kit and she got into it. This past week she pooped in the potty for the first time and before that she was going and putting on pull ups to poop. Just take a break and try again later. She will get it!

Just buy a step stool. Same function, much cheaper. No one has to know it was made for kids.

You don't need to bring a potty with you - just a travel potty seat that you just put on a regular toilet seat. You can buy foldable ones that easily fit in a bag.

Something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Portable-Silionce-Training-Toddlers-Recyclable/dp/B07DW3V2WK/ref=sr_1_4?crid=3HSNRDAB7AAOP&keywords=foldable+potty+seat&qid=1555685578&s=gateway&sprefix=foldable+po%2Caps%2C124&sr=8-4

OXO Tot 2-in-1 Go Potty for Travel - Navy https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0771SDJDF/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_g76DDbFSY34SP

Comes with bags you just throw away when they are done.

u/wheeze_the_juice · 2 pointsr/daddit

get one of these just in case. keep plastic bags and unused diapers inside of them for easier shit disposal. i have always carry it just in case since 1. i have a daughter and 2. public toilets in parks are usually in worse condition than concentration camps.

but if i had a boy, 100% just let him pee in a remote corner where no one can see him. and 100% join him and pee on others in retaliation if they got something to say about it.

Almost 4 year old has been potty training for a year now. He's pretty good about not having accidents, but he absolutely has to be reminded. I can count on one hand the number of times he's recognized that he needs to go and actually went. We got him a Potty Watch which is just a timer that goes off every hour and resets itself so you don't have to remember.

u/smurfette8675309 · 2 pointsr/ADHD

Does he do the peeing thing at school? I don't have that kind of peeing equipment, so this is baffling to me.

Can you remove all distractions from the bathroom? No pictures on the wall, no magazines, nothing on the sink or counter? And if course not allow him to take anything in there with him.

Also, something like this might help him focus: Hacy Toilet Training Target for Boys. Mounted to The Ceiling to Stay Away from The Reach of Their Urination. It Doubles as a Night Light. Motion-Activated. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B076P3GXG6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_1VZXCbAP8Q27K
I think it's adjustable, so just for funsies you could change the location of the target in the bowl if he starts losing interest.

Another idea would be to get something like this: Frog Potty Training Urinal for Boys Toilet with Funny Aiming Target - Green https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07D5FRBKX/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_C2ZXCb6ZGRNES
I know it's kind of juvenile, but it actually makes me (briefly) wish I had the apparatus to pee in this because it looks fun! Make it fun, and we ADHDers can do anything!

If you decide to add rewards, remember we can't deal with delayed gratification. Don't have him collect tokens for a Lego set he gets in a month. Instead, each success means he gets a Lego brick. After it appears he's getting it, you could up the ante a little and say each successful day means 3 Lego bricks or something. After a while you could extend this to a week (get one baggie from the Lego set), and eventually a month (the whole set.) But do this only after it's clear it's a habit.

As an aside, Nature's Miracle is great for getting out pee (and other) smells. It's got an enzyme that actually dissolves the odors, rather than just covering them up with fragrance.

I'd purchase a few more than you actually use per day, because with potty training there will be accidents! Especially with one so young! So, if you're going through 5 diapers/day and you want Flip shells, I'd get at least 7 shells. That's in case of poop accidents, heavy pee accidents, and if you don't want to wash every single day.

When we potty trained our daughter, we used KangaCare Lil' Learnerz' training pants. They weren't as absorbent as a diaper, so we did get some accidents, but they were super easy to pull off/on. I bought 3 packs (6 total), plus a few more from other brands and that got us through 2-3 days. However, we didn't start potty training until 23 months. The xs and small sizes come with snaps on the side so it makes poop accidents a little more manageable!

For night time, it sounds like you've had trouble with accidents. You could try wool covers with your bamboo diaper. When you lanolize wool covers, they become waterproof and you probably won't have to deal with wet bedsheets as often. My favorite is EcoPosh. Learn to Cloth Diaper has step by step instructions with pictures on how to care for wool covers. Hope it helps!
