I don’t think it’s a boot, looks like a lock you can buy on amazon to secure a golf cart wheel. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B079JS3CN4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_5gF3Db20RB6PZ

u/Aphix · 11 pointsr/philadelphia

$63 for a brand new one on Amazon.

Reality is, it's better to just use it on your own car... what are they gonna do? Boot it again?

If you wanna be stealthy, just scratch it up, or if you're really hardcore spray a stenciled "PPA" on the side but that's not common.

With some of these

They do have wheel locks where the outer part spins freely and the lock is in the inner part to prevent this.

If anything, get a wheel lock. Master lock makes a good 4 prong one that I used back on my Ford when I lived in Texas (they too are easy to steal with shaved keys and power tools). If anything, start with that. Other people have mentioned installing a kill switch, but that's a little beyond my skill set.

You're screwed with these as they prevent exactly this from happening. The outer part of the lug spins freely. Good to keep thieves at bay, bad if you lose the key.

u/RiverVan · 3 pointsr/vandwellers

99% of my vandwelling is in urban areas. Usually not in the worst neighborhoods but there still is crime.

Last year someone smashed one of the windows in my van. They also smashed the windows of 2 other vehicles that were parked nearby at the same time.

To try to prevent the actual theft of my van, I have a lock that goes from the brake pedal to the steering wheel, and a 4-pronged steering wheel lock.

I also have a car alarm system with a remote that I bought on eBay. If the doors open the alarm goes off. I drilled a small hole in part of my dash to install the included flashing LED light that lets criminals know that my van has an alarm and it is activated.

It came with one dual stage shock sensor but I found that the length of my van required me to purchase an extra dual stage shock sensor to provide coverage for the rear of my van.

I keep the alarm turned on while I am inside sleeping at night. The sensors don't go off when I move around inside. When there are drunk people leaning against my van I can use the remote to make the alarm chirp a couple of times and that always moves them away.

I bought a Scytek G20 car alarm for $29.99:

I also bought an extra dual stage shock sensor for less than $10:

Yep, had the same issue with my ‘03 Ram. When I traded that for my ‘17 F150 I swapped the lug nuts the first tire rotation so I avoid a headache in the future.

What I used. Very close to stock looking.

$56 for wheel locks?!

I just got these

u/m5503799 · 1 pointr/MechanicAdvice

so you want them to be purple correct?
Why do they have to be acorn type, as long as the tubular style is long enough to accommodate the stud you can use that type as well. Also, the angle of the front seat matters, if your stock ones are "Seat Style: Conical Seat - 60 Deg" don't get a 40 Deg seat they won't hold properly.
I would get a higher quality lug nut thought I have an 03 lancer and the stock acorns were soo rusty they were different size due to rust. I replaced them with these:

https://www.amazon.com/Dorman-711-256-Pack-Black-Lock/dp/B00FPL06KI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1492785813&sr=8-1&keywords=dorman+black+lug+nuts

and they work fine I would just not get some cheap ebay or knockoffs. Also I would advise staying away from aluminum lug nuts, bi-metal corrosion can be a pain to deal with.

One more thing, stick with a name brand Dorman is a good one I know some wheel mfgs. make good one just dont cheap out you or your mech will regret it

To an extent but if someone wants the wheels, there are tools to get them off.

Had to get a locking lug off my Jeep spare and there’s a fancy conical/spiral socket that will take just about anything round off.

It's a few bucks cheaper on Amazon after you include shipping.

"Dealer told me that no two of those are the same."

Dealer lied.

u/luketabor · 1 pointr/accord

Doesn't look like McGard makes ball-seat wheel locks. These are the most affordable option I've found for Honda-compatible wheel locks: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01KZULYMC/

Or they offer this option where you replace all of your lug nuts with wheel locks. Seems like this would at least slow down the "hammer a socket on there" attack: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01KZULYRC/
