250?! Okay then, this will be fun :)

Just remember though, that higher number in headphones series does not always mean better. eg DT880 > DT770 is not always true. Yours focus more on bass and treble, while the middle ground is left out, Also called V shaped headphone. While the 880's are neutral on most areas, while emphasizing mostly on the treble. Two completely different things, all comes down to taste :)

Over budget I know, but this is also where we reach a new level. You can look at the Z-Reviews of the AD series headphones. He's missing the 700x's, but has most others :)

All AD headphones are fantastic, they do get increasingly better up untill 900x. Where the 2000x, 1000x and 900x
can come down to taste. I prefer the 1000's over the rest as they contain a bit of midbass, while the 2000's are super clear and analytical, where those who listen to classical music will absolutely orgasm over them.
I've specifically bought AD velour earpads over the standard leather pads on my own headphones, because of the amazing comfort.

  • Beydynamic DT990 Semi-Open-Back [32 Ohm] [$146.97] Permanent cable.

    *****
  • Philips X2/27 Fidelio Premium [$254.18] Detachable cable. Replaceable earpads.
Often compared with Sennheiser HD600 [$400]. People have complained that the sound of the X2's has been bad, but it turns out the headphones are actually exposing poorly mastered/rendered music. It also has a massive soundstage, this is a winner for games where listening matters. You can see impressions over at Head-Fi, these are people who own multiple headphones in the $1000 zone, so don't be afraid of a mediocre rating.
30ohm, so even a phone can power them fine.

    *****
  • Philips SHP9500 Open-Back [$75.95] Detachable cable.
Said to be among the most comfortable objects one can place on the head. Also a very good soundstage, not in the X2's category, but still good.

    *****

  • Z-Reviews: What makes Good Gaming Headphones? He also debunks surround headsets' marketing. It's not better.

    *****

I know there is a boatload of things here to pick from, but promise me to research into these things and maybe find something else I haven't mentioned. Headphones or headsets for that matter are an investment and should last +5 years.

    Happy listening! :)

What price range are we talking?

If you have some money to spare, I would recommend Razer gear. It's some of the best out there.

The Razer DeathAdder costs 50$ and is probably the world's most popular gaming mouse.

The Razer BlackWidow costs 70$ and has mechanical keys. I love this because you have a noticable "click" when pressing in the keys which makes more very dynamic and precise gameplay.

In addition to this, you need a mousepad. It doesn't have to be a good/expensive brand, but make sure it's LARGE. It recently bought a huge mousepad and it is sooo nice being able to play without being scared to roll over the edge. Lower DPS improves your aim, so you may have to move around your mouse a lot from time to time. This is a gamechanger.

If you don't have 120$+ to spare on equipment, just go on Amazon and search for "gaming mouse / gaming keyboard". Most results will be very affordable and still cheap.

For example, I am currently using this gaming mouse for only 14$. It's perfectly fine in my opinion and quite nice.

there are those 150$ statues of Tracer / Reaper / Widowmaker.

if full size statues are too big, maybe a smaller $60 ea. Mei, Tracer (and soon Mercy) Nendoroids [action figure with multiple hands & faceplates etc].

you could get him a blizzard $ giftcard, so he can buy event Loot Boxes to get some sweet Costumes for use in game. [sold at retailers bestbuy/target etc]

if you want to go really nuts, you could upgrade his PC for better performance!
(there are tons of ways to upgrade his pc, here are the two most significant choices)
new video card. $300-1300
1440p 144mhz 1ms monitor. $600

but if you have time, just hang out together and ask him stuff about the game.
taking an active interest can be a great bonding experience

have fun!

Best to do some indepth research on your own, but so far my experience has lead to this...

Better. https://amzn.com/B00MSOND8C

Best. https://amzn.com/B0173PEX20 (can be purchased sometimes cheaper from costco)

I've been using a Logitech G430 for nearly 2 years now. Pretty cheat headset, nice sounding with virtual 7.1 and pretty decent microphone, and the build quality is pretty nice (I have a big head and so far it didn't broke unlike 2 tritton headsets for more than double the price).

The headset by default had a pretty shitty sound quality, but after you turn on the Dolby 7.1 in the headset's driver, the difference is like Heaven and Hell.

My friend uses a Steelseries Siberia v2 and he's pleased with his too, though his headset's stripe got ripped but still in use.

For gaming, You don't need to spend a lot for a headset. If you're an audiophile you might consider going for higher price perephials, but for hearing things and talking to others you'll find decent ones for 50-80 pounds.

http://www.amazon.com/LC05-Cooling-Auto-Temp-Detection-Compatible/dp/B00XKU47Y2

I bought this and both gpu and cpu temp's were lowered by 10C each (without any cleaning or thermal paste)

Changing the battery plan from balanced to high performance may have had some effect, but it is hard to quantify. It does feel like i am getting better performance, but it might be placebo.

I have i7-4720HQ 2.6GHz + GTX950M + 12GB RAM and I run 1680x1050 (75% rendering, low preset except for 4x anisotropic filtering, FXAA, high texture, medium model) at 70FPS basically stable. Sometimes when Mei freezes me it might be going down (perhaps 50?) due to some effect BS

I really thing the opolar fan is much much much better than laptop stand style coolers. You put it on, and temperatures fall by 10C right off the bat.

u/MoltenSlowa · 2 pointsr/Overwatch

I can only speak to what I've used, but I have the Logitech G430 headphones for my laptop and travel. They're very comfortable and lightweight, and have a very long cable. The Logitech G930s are the wireless version if you need that too. No complaints with them, but I do recommend using Overwatch's dolby atmos sound option instead of Logitech's 7.1 sound drivers.

I also use the AKG K240 headphones that are the lightest and most comfortable headphones I've ever worn. I sometimes forget that they're on sometimes! Great sound, but they are headphones only and you will need a separate microphone.

u/Fallenswarm · 1 pointr/Overwatch

I would advise a much bigger mousepad. Something like this or this.

I am a DPS main around 3700SR and I play in a similar way. Wrist and arm. Flick shots I use my wrist and turning, tracking I use my arm. Try to be around 4000 eDPI (Give or take 1000) for the best results.

u/Dissentient · 1 pointr/Overwatch

I usually recommend

www.amazon.com/dp/B00ENMK1DW + www.amazon.com/dp/B00BJ17WKK

Those headphones sound way better than their price tag, and the microphone attaches to them instead of their default cable. They are comfortable and durable (I dropped them plenty of times).

When it comes to microphone, there are reviews of that microphone you can find on youtube that include recordings of sound from it.

u/ciny · 1 pointr/Overwatch

> headphones imo are basically mandatory at a high level of play because of this

And it can help you on all levels of play. especially if the headphones are 5.1/7.1. Hearing WHERE the sound is coming from and reacting to it will bring a lot of salt and hacking accusations (as you surely know). I can vouch for Logitech G430 as a decent 7.1 headset.

for running ethernet through the walls, you'd need to hire an electrician, which can be relatively expensive. For running it in home, you can use http://www.cableorganizer.com/surface-raceways/ or a similar cable cover to run cabling up the walls and throughout the home on the edges of the ceiling with a nice finished look if open wiring bothers you.

As for powerline adapters, after a bit of looking around https://www.amazon.com/TP-LINK-Powerline-Adapter-Starter-TL-PA2010KIT/dp/B00AWRUIY4/ref=zg_bs_1194444_3?_encoding=UTF8&refRID=N5W6TYA9CVMY2GKBTYT7&th=1

$30 price tag, probably around $36 or so with shipping and taxes. It's got pretty decent reviews and can support up to a 200 mbps connection. You can probably get something cheaper if you have a local fry's or an electronics store in the area, but this is probably one of the better ones for it's price.

u/ExoHead · 1 pointr/Overwatch

its usually something third party like this https://www.amazon.ca/GE1337P-KeyMander-Controller-Emulator-Consoles/dp/B00GBK434M or you can try and do it yourself, the device just acts like a controller sending the inputs for the joysticks and buttons when its really just a keyboard and mouse

I'm not the person you've replied to here, but I also found OP's post to be condescending. He accuses her of "moral grandstanding" and being on a "high horse". He pokes fun at her writing, making jokes about her use of rhetorical questions. He contrasts his own personal experience of racism to her experience of sexism. He says his arguments are based in science and reason, a "peer reviewed" and "scholarly" source. It's not. It's a book that itself draws on peer reviewed studies, in order to support its own conclusions.

That's a huge difference. Here's the book, you can use the "Look Inside" feature to check it out yourself, since OP helpfully suggested we Google it ourselves. Frankly it seems like a whole lot of scholarly works being cited, and not a whole lot of actual cogent points to make. And it's written from the perspective of a counselor, discussing effective methods of counselling. A therapist obviously has a much different relationship and responsibility to an abuser than the rest of us do, especially, you know, the abuser's victim.

Look, I get that nobody wants to be labelled a sexist, because nobody's a mind reader. But at the very least, when a man corrects a woman's response to her own experience of sexism, suggesting she be more charitable to her abuser while admonishing her for "moral grandstanding", while also (falsely) claiming that his analysis is more scientific and rational than hers... yeah, my radar is lighting up.

u/NightRevan · 2 pointsr/Overwatch

Ram Drive shouldn't have any adverse effect, because RAM is made to do a lot of writing and reading in volatile memory (more so than HDD/SSD) and it help reduce the amount of writing to the SSD and to speed up loading programs like Overwatch (like literally every round, I was the first to load the game and ended up waiting for everyone else to load the game.) And I used 8 DIMM slots on my Mobo with 2x of these ram package deal.

My cpu is this and my Mobo is this and my GPU is this (Gtx Titan X Hybrid.)

I have been using the Logitech G430 for about 8 months now for PC gaming and love them.

Some other possible headsets:

u/Seduz · 2 pointsr/Overwatch

I wish we had that option! Would totally be unfair to everyone else though...In all seriousness, play around with the sensitivity settings a bit to see what works for you. I like max horizontal and 40 vertical for Tracer. Also, kontrolfreeks like these are life savers.

u/laserhawke · 1 pointr/Overwatch

If your on Ps4 but there's the Hori fps plus, it has an aim button on the back so I can hold that and drop my sensitivity right down, it's really good for small adjustments and sniping also when I play Genji I can remap X to that button instead.

u/The_Skeptic_One · 1 pointr/Overwatch

Modmic hands down. You can even attach to to headphones. I use my modmic with my Beyerdynamic 990s and have gotten compliments on how clear the voice sounds with them. You can even detach them when you don't need them.

u/Syntaire · 6 pointsr/Overwatch

You could also look into getting something like a Logitech G13 or Razer Tartarus. They've got fully programmable buttons and a D-pad/Joystick. Might help out in your case.

u/dakraiz · 6 pointsr/Overwatch

As low as you can handle and buy a massive mouse pad. I use this one. Aim with your arm more than your wrist. Obviously every character is different e.g. my sens for winston and rein is much higher. But for any aim intensive hero I have it so that a full scroll from my mousepad (L-->R) is just about how far you need to go to do a full 360. It is gonna feel very low at first. Also recommend getting a solid gaming mouse which will let you adjust DPI.

Also, this article looks promising

u/Bilbodidit · 1 pointr/Overwatch

Can confirm, I have some. There really do provide a better feel.

I also suggest one of these controllers:

u/TSTC · 1 pointr/Overwatch

I absolutely love my Logitech G930 pair.

The battery life is good (about 8 hours on a full charge) and they work just fine while charging via USB. Sound quality really helps me identify positions (especially footsteps, those really pop out compared to speakers) in OW. No complaints with the microphone. First battery lasted me a little over a year but a replacement was only $10 USD and took maybe 5 minutes to switch.

Cannot recommend a pair more highly in your price budget.

Ordered Razer Deathadder Chroma today. Should be here by Sunday.

Thanks.

i did some research and it can run constant 60 fps at ultra settings, tho the battery doesn't seem that good for a gaming laptop (48WHrs).

i looked over at the laptop that sendmeyourfoods sent you and the specs look much better

edit: the laptop he sent you costs 1000 USD (1400 CAD)

u/Retrikaethan · 1 pointr/Overwatch

this one? (edit: found more likely one) (edit2: if it is this one, it does have a graphics card Intel® HD Graphics 4400 and drivers available online there. would still suggest getting a new computer and probably the cooling thing in the meantime.)

at any rate, computers should be replaced every 4-5 years (longer if you buy higher end components but not much longer). if you've been using your laptop for gaming for even half that long while it doesn't have a graphics card, it is probably dying one of those horrible deaths borne of usage due to using the cpu and the mother board's onboard graphics instead of a proper gpu. i would suggest getting a new laptop/computer when you can as its age is probably the problem here. in the meantime, you could get one of these goofy things to help with cooling the laptop as overheating one component or another is likely the reason for the issue. finakl note: i would advise against using it for gaming any further if the laptop is needed for anything vital like college/work. if not, it should be fine for a while yet but if it conks out on you don't be too surprised.

u/HowieGaming · 2 pointsr/Overwatch

Well, yes of course.

I had to upgrade after Titanfall 2 ran so shitty on my old hardware.

/u/Gazunta1

u/EricWpG · 6 pointsr/Overwatch

It's possible with emulators, but highly frowned upon (and likely considered cheating).

u/Dalarrus · 1 pointr/Overwatch

I'd actually suggest the AOC G2260VWQ6 since it's 75hz, which means, assuming you can get over 75fps in OW, you'll be seeing more of those frames.

u/RogueEyebrow · 3 pointsr/Overwatch

You can get a decent mic for $8 on amazon.

I get why people wouldn't want to be harassed, but there are plenty of non-asshats looking to add friends for PUGs. Having a foreign accent, or being female, doesn't make you unique for not wanting to play with jerks.

u/Edheldui · 3 pointsr/Overwatch

Why don't you use a power line adapter? It uses the electric system to bring the ethernet signal around the house.

I have three of them and my siblings and me play online games at the same time without any problems. Here in Italy we have really bad 20 megabits connections and our ping is around 50ms anyway.

EDIT: I use this model.

u/ohenry78 · 1 pointr/Overwatch

One thing that helps me a ton on Console is control stick extenders. These ones are for PS4 but they exist for Xbone as well (which is where I play). It sounds like it would be awkward and awful, but it basically increases the distance your thumb has to move to reach the outmost parts of the stick radius, which means that you can make much smaller and more refined movements much more easily.

They didn't magically turn me in to a pro, I still stink at aiming, but I stink slightly less using these than without.

u/quindraco · 1 pointr/Overwatch

Here's what you want, rather than a keyboard, because a keyboard is inferior to a game controller for movement, due to its lack of a joystick - with the default keybinds, characters can't reload while stepping to the right, which is hilariously awful.

It's not mechanical and the joystick sucks (but is a lot better than not having one!), but the only other options on the internet cost a downright comedic amount of money more (such as Razer's other option, the Orbweaver).

I'm currently trying to decide which I want to prioritize more - a gaming mouse or a gaming headset. My mic is awful, but it's damn hard finding fellow players with the intelligence to turn on team chat.

u/broswae · 1 pointr/Overwatch

sorry, you're right, it's actually a book, my bad. tbh haven't read it yet, because I don't own the book - I'm going off of what OP said about the source
