I got my Vive on amazon warehouse to save money. https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00VF5NT4I/ref=dp_olp_used_mbc?ie=UTF8&condition=used&m=A2L77EE7U53NWQ

Really great prices for the Vive, and I would definitely recommend a vive. Fantastic for room scale and imo better than a rift because of it's roomscale.

Another option that is more stable, and takes less floorspace than tripods are these: Support Rod

Combined with these: Bar Clamp

I upgraded from a pair of lighting tripods and it's a definite improvement. I'm not bumping the base of the tripods anymore.

Are you running the Vive through any kind of adapter? I often had problems getting the Vive to work because I initially had it going from the link box HDMI port to an adapter for Displayport.

I could get steam VR to work if I started it up immediately after a reboot but any more than 5 or 10 minutes after startup and I'd get a variety of errors including Error 400.

If you don't have a free HDMI port you might want to look into getting a mini DP to DP cable like this one

Also, HTC support loves to pass the buck to others. I'm surprised they didn't pass the blame to Steam though.

Same, but mine don't have an extension so you have to be tall enough to reach them, but here's a link for anyone interested.

basically what I am saying is that:

Cost of HMD with 8 inch 3000 PPI Display > Cost of HMD with 7 inch 300 PPI display + 1 inch 3000 PPI Display + Motorized Parts

I think you are underestimating how expensive pixels are.

A cheap 1080p TV can go for <$100 new, a cheap 4K TV (~4x the pixels) can go for maybe $500 ish new.

I've used an UPTAB 4K adapter for over 3 years. (not the exact same look as one shown)

It works very well with 4K gaming over HDMI connection to my 4K TV

These or these work really well, pair with two camera clamps like these, and you're good to go. (I use the Harbor Freight ones, but both should be fine)

Pro-tip: Point the ratcheting portion down so you're pushing the main pole up, this maximizes base station height, and minimizes vibration.

Maybe something like this https://www.amazon.com/Roberts-50-582-Gripper-Anti-Slip-Indoor/dp/B00J9Q32XS

I'm assuming you tried this style and it doesn't work? Worked well on my floors https://www.amazon.com/Maxy-Home-Non-Slip-Provides-Doormats/dp/B01H2L17JC

edit: links just for the pictures, I haven't used those particular products

Cool design, if the floor really is the only place you can put them.

I'd recommend a camera mount and some adhesive strips. No mess, and can be removed anytime and re-mounted elsewhere if needed.

u/imaginateinventify · 2 pointsr/SteamVR

I have the same chip and gpu as you and my VR performs just fine.

Edit: I read the rest of the comments - I think you've found the problem. Just in case it helps I use this to cool my cpu and have had no issues with it. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00FZHWFEW/ref=oh_aui_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

This particular extension was recommended by someone that has a Vive pre.

I can't find the original recommendation at the moment :/

u/creepytacoman · 2 pointsr/SteamVR

I'm using this and passthrough does work. It's the only way I could get anything to work really, my motherboard's USB controller is awful so I have to rely on the gpu's USB C.

I used these. But as others talk about lots of vibration, I have experienced no perceptible vibration, noise, or tracking problems. But if I had to guess, these clamps would be fine if there were some vibration.

> B) a lot of the hinge mechanism shattered, so it would be one hell of a fix job to get it working again,

Depending on how it broke, you can fix it without the hinge. The fastest fix I recommend is using aluminum sheeting from a hardware store and some heavy duty Scotch mounting strips.

I used something similar to mount my Nolo VR tracker to my OSVR headset.
