My solution is the Plano angled tackle box: http://amzn.to/2iGo49J that holds 72 small-base ships. It is out of stock online, but nearly every Walmart carries it for 59.99. Additionally, it has two smaller containers that are perfect for tokens and additional storage.
This is my set-up, and the Plano kit is essential for my concise storage and lack of jostling during transport: http://imgur.com/gallery/Syn5K
For the Epic ships, I bought Stanley toolboxes because they are cheap lock well and could be used for tools in the future if I discover alternative storage.
I do not display anything, as I do not feel possessing these toys is something that merits commemoration or observation. I don't place the cars and family pegs from LIFE on a shelf, so it seems silly to me to exalt pieces from a board game regardless of how intricate the pieces or rules are. I enjoy it, but my shelves are filled with personal items and commemorations of lost family members. An A-wing would feel disrespectful.
Anyway, I now have to make a purchase of more storage, and while I think the Plano cases are brilliant, I am now looking at Feldherr foam kits on Amazon for basic storage. They have several generic kits that hold a large number of small-base ships while still affording specialized storage (through pick'n'pluck foam) for large-based ships.
In the end, it will come down to bang-for-buck, and the WalMart plano cases look to be able to hold their own very easily.
Happy Hunting!
The Plano 5231 is where I would start. I have several that I keep mine in (my collection is rather large). The top section will accommodate all the ship tokens, the gameplay tokens and templates & obstacles. The inside will easily fit all that you have along with the dials and damage deck with plenty of room to spare. I am storing complete conversion kit cardboard and a majority of the small ships in the boxes. Adding a bunch of large ships to the collection may present an issue eventually, but you can fit a YT-1300 + another large ship without issues. The Ghost does not fit in the box unfortunately.
Edit: The prices on Amazon for the red plano are not great right now though.
The HDX interlocking series is pretty great, too. The containers lock together making it easy to add to the collection as needed and they are easy to carry. These can accommodate the bigger ships like the Ghost, too. maybe go with this. The price is good, too.

I swear by these: HDX 320034 Interlocking Black Small Parts Organizer for Fasteners and Crafts w/ Removable Dividers (2 Pack) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00GYQXRS6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_T3MFDbE0WQCE2
You can find them at Home Depot for like $12 and they come in a two pack. I have four total and they carry literally my whole collection of about 60 ships. This includes medium and large base ships plus all tokens, templates, other items.
I keep all my cards in a zippered binder with trading card sleeves.
When I go out to play I simply throw the cards and ships I need into my top box which has all of the tokens and templates and jet. It makes things super streamlined and I love it. Doesn’t take up much space either.
If you have free shipping from amazon (amazon prime), then I've found amazon's prices to almost always be the best. There's a really great site for viewing amazon price history called camelcamelcamel. Here's the page for the Aggressor:
http://camelcamelcamel.com/Star-Wars-X-Wing-IG-2000-Expansion/product/1616619406
Little bit more expensive but can fit 2 mats and easy carry. Alvin MT37-CL Ice Tubes Clear Storage & Transport Tube 2 3/4 inches I.D. x 37 inches https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000UU6O2I/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_Ek19AbZQPPJJF
These are the ones I use. They are PERFECT. Just barely clear the base so it dont rock. Got the link from a past reddit thread.
There's a couple of options, like the Bosch ones:

or Stanley:

Oil/grease the male connector(s). Buy some green stuff: two part epoxy, yellow and blue, mix em to make green, mold them around the male connector. Remove gently and let dry. Will become as strong as PVC.
It was going to cost the same amount to print the booklet as it was to print all of the components on their best card stock in full color.
Personally, I would look at buying a cheap color tablet and using that. There's a 7" Fire that you can get for $40 of you have Prime, though it says "with special offers". That's about what I was quoted for the booklet.
Fire Tablet, 7" Display, Wi-Fi, 8 GB - Includes Special Offers, Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00TSUGXKE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_NerOybEGSCGDD
What would be a good and cheap alternative? I've been looking at something like this:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/COMPARTMENTS-UPGRADEABLE-PLASTIC-STORAGE-350x220x48mm/dp/B002TGCZ4C/ref=sr_1_14?ie=UTF8&qid=1425389638&sr=8-14&keywords=plano
I have this stupid monstrosity (Plano 1374) for my whole collection. One tray per faction, and can fit all my small ships, dials, cardboard ship tokens, plus both YT's, a Decimator and Shuttle, a Hound's Tooth, two Firesprays, and three Jumpmasters in three of the four trays (organized by faction). Maneuver templates, bases and pegs, bombs, and other non-faction stuff goes in the fourth.
Ghost goes in the top bin, of course. Nothing even remotely reasonable holds that business.
If I only need to take one squadron with me, like for a tournament, I can pack it all in a "Stanley Fatmax FMST14820 FatMax Deep Pro Organizer".
Edit: oh, repainted. Yeah, my suggestion has them rattling around a touch in the tournament box. I'm thinking simple bubble wrap bags, combined with generous dullcoat as a last painting step, for once I finish some repaints.
Ok, thanks for the replies. Think I'm going to go with this, decent reviews and not too pricey.
This is the one I have. It works well for 2 mats, rolled together. Nozlen Document Poster Tube - Black Plastic Storage Tube Expands from 24.5" up to 40" with Clear ID Card Cap - Water and Light Resistant - Telescoping For Posters, Artwork and Drawings Model DT3001 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00DGWRHQY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_StgPAb76E0QK8
Bumpons - They work great, they add weight, and are very reliable

Crow's normal price on Barnes and noble website and Amazon. I don't know what you were looking at.
I keep my cards and pilot bases in binders:
The ships I actually keep on their bases and pegs, using the ID token holders on the bases to hold the chit for the maneuver dial and the actual maneuver dial (I'm using the dial upgrades: https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/products/x-wing/products/imperial-maneuver-dial-upgrade-kit/). That way, when I want to fly a ship, I can just grab it off the shelf and I've already got the maneuver dial and the chit ready to go.
Sure! i got it on amazon uk but annoyingly its out of stock.
Here it is on amazon.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Compartment-Professional-Organiser-Storage-Screw/dp/B00S8GRCBI/ref=sr_1_3?m=ALZZG9UXRRKZE&s=merchant-items&ie=UTF8&qid=1452951080&sr=1-3
What I use.
It dries a little gray/cloudy, but I just try not to use too much and you can't really tell. I just add the drop, let it set a few seconds to start to dry (I scuff up the magnets with sandpaper as I wait), then use a Q-tip to remove excess.
This is the tutorial I used to learn. I use slightly different magnets and don't drill in too much. I don't mind seeing the magnet, but I do want it to stick well and lay flat.
GW and Privateer have changed to include stats digitally in an app (with physical cards optional in the case of PPS, for people who still want physical cards). Usable, branded tablets are $50 now. When will we get optional digital cards for X-Wing?
I am using something like this https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B00S8GRCBI/ref=pd_aw_sim_60_3?ie=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=H1ATYSP2Z2M419NCJZ9Y
Edit: I am using 3 of them currently, 1 for each faction.
Edit 2: the yt1300 is too large for the large container so i just removed some bins to make for my 2. Same with the ghost, shadow caster, yv666, and decimator (I assume)
I've seen others mention https://www.amazon.com/Print-File-Preservers-3-5x3-5-Inch-Prints/dp/B00DDTQFN6/ as an option.
Heads up, your comment was automatically removed but I'm not going to approve it until you remove the referral part of the url. Edit it to just be https://www.amazon.com/SoftClose-Cabinet-Furniture-Bumpers-Diameter/dp/B00IL6E1RS and message me and I'll approve it

As a heads up Amazon.ca has them available for 5 dollars each plus 6 dollars shipping.

They also claim the ig2000 is in stock, see here so I bet they are selling based on their expected stock then will only ship if and when they get it in.
OP means to add USA only.

You put them on the corners, on the bottom of the base. Makes it much more difficult to bump, slide, or nudge the bases.

Edit: Turns out Amazon isn't the only place with them available, I had missed them on other sites. Here are the complete set of links of those stores with them available, and then a list below with stores checked but where the pre-orders are not yet available.
Amazon.co.uk have published a release date - May 28, 2014. Of the other retailers I have found offering pre-orders, Total Wargamer suggests a June 1st release date, and Travelling Man suggests "Q3 2014". Firestorm Games has no date listed on their site.
As a side-note, my past experiences with TotalWargamer would cause me to suggest not buying through them. After three months of waiting for a product that was "in stock" when I purchased it, I gave up waiting and demanded my money back.
I have no experience with Travelling Man, and know them only from /r/boardgames list of FLGS in the UK, but Firestorm Games are my FLGS, and have dealt fairly with me, including accepting a return with no fuss.
Other gaming stores that are NOT currently showing the pre-order are:
